Saturday9 - You're No Good, Linda Ronstadt. Are you good? Think so do ya?

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: You're No Good (1974)

... because Harriet suggested Linda Ronstadt

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This week's featured artist, Linda Ronstadt, turns 69 next month. Will you be celebrating any family/friend birthdays this summer?
There has been a niece and a great grandmother already this last week in June.  After that there are two DDs, and then two Grandnieces.  July there are a couple more and some in August.

2) Linda sings that she's learned her lesson and it's left a scar. Tell us how you got one of your scars.
I was three and a half, visiting my grandparent's farm for the imminent birth of my little sib.  It's my oldest scar and I got it from climbing up a bookcase and having a little iron book holder with an Indian Chief 's face on it fall off on me.  I could not leave it alone.  Grandma and mother had Grandpa put it up high so I couldn't get to it.  No other way seemed to be helping.  Hiding it didn't help.  I climbed up the bookcase and, pop!, it fell on my lip.  I bled all over the place but then after that they just gave me the precious, divine object.  My Precious!!   I still have it somewhere.  My quest for rusty iron had begun.

3) This song is about a lover who is, obviously, no good. Let's be more positive. Who is the nicest person you know?
You mean like an Angel?  I think that's my DH - I'm not kidding here - or maybe his youngest sister.  They are both like Angels to me.

4) Linda says that she grew up on Mexican music, which was sung by her entire family. Do you speak any Spanish?
Yes.  But I speak Spanish spanish, like schooled Spanish.  My cousin's, who learned to speak it from birth, thought I spoke it ALL wrong and laughed at me.  They learned Spanish because my grandmother, though born here, hardly spoke any English and learned her Spanish from the Nuns at the Convent School.  She understood English perfectly but answered in Spanish.  She was a doll, in the Angel category.

"De Colores" is my favorite Spanish Song.  I can almost sing all of it, but sadly, not all.

5) She toured often throughout her career and is quoted as saying, "they haven't invented a word for that loneliness that everybody goes through on the road." Are you missing someone right now?
Yes. And I can't be there this summer.  Así es la vida!

6) Ms. Ronstadt was once involved with George Lucas of Star Wars fame. Who is your favorite Star Wars character?
My heart belongs to Han.
From GameZOne

7) In 1974, when this song was a hit, The Magic 8 Ball was still a top-seller at toy stores. It retailed for just $1.99, and promised that all you had to do was gaze at it, concentrate, and wait to learn your fate ... "if you dare!" If you could get an answer to one question about the future, what would you ask?
How soon can we expect the Age of Aquarius?
Will I really have to come back here?  (this said with a decided whining tone to the voice)  Ooops, that's two!

8)1974 is the year when Mikhail Baryshnikov defected to the United States. Have you ever been to the ballet?
Just the kids' performances in, "The Nutcracker", at Christmas.  I only took lessons there as an adult, and took my kids to dance lessons at the Civic Youth Ballet School in Balboa Park , which is, by the way, still up and running.  There is a great opportunity for all of you San Diego area readers.  Ballet helped to heal my broken back.

9) Random question: What's your shoe size?
7.5 double wides.  Sometimes 8's depending on the type of footwear -  boots are a definite 8s.

edited:  I can't post late at night.  No amount of proofreading helps. *sighs*

  1. I'm glad they let you keep the bookend. Imagine what other injuries you would have had to endure in your quest to capture it! I also love it that you still have it somewhere.

I didn't know The Age of Aquarius was real. I thought it was just a "Hair" thing.

    1. That little thing is in a box somewhere, wrapped up with other treasures. I was fascinated by the Indian Chief, mostly. Weird thing kids fixate on, eh? And yes, I am glad they put a stop to this by giving it to me. The Age of Aquarius is an alignment of the heavens that astrologers like to debunk. I would like to see what's true.

  2. I hear rumors that there is a new "age" coming, but it is taking its time getting here. It's been "dawning" for a long time, hasn't it.

    1. There is actually a period that leads into it, but it doesn't actually arrive until another 300 or so years. I am thinking that we swing by some advanced planetary system and get visited at a set time, say every 4000 years. I don't remember the numbers exactly between ages. I don't think the Physicists are doing the best job with the whole "reality" thing, unless you listen to the parallel universes argument that Einstein proposed. He was on to something, imho. Ah, yes, it has been dawning for a long time. :-)

    1. It is, isn't it? Every time that I hear the opening chords, I move into a calmer mood and head-space. It is - indeed- beautiful.

  4. I'm with Diana. I don't listen to this type of music, but it's a very nice song! :)

    1. Thank you Bud. ;) I suppose it's sort of the song that soothes me the most, I have no idea why but there you are.

  5. I am a fan of ballet, I wish I had more opportunity to see it live, in person.

    1. I wish you could, too. It's a beautiful Art form.

We had a fairly good Ballet here in the 60's or so, and a world class Opera company, too. But the Symphony was so sketchy, It was sometimes rather good and other times mediocre to terrible. They had a lot of trouble keeping really good players even though there were some very fine ones in the mix. So, the ballet and Opera companies just melted away. It's a shame, though things may be changing if we can get enough high powered cultural donations. We're too close to Los Angeles I guess.

    1. I agree Harriet, the kind and compassionate people of this world are as close to being Angels as a human being can be.

  7. lol....that Indian Chief scar was certainly destined for you. Determination in tots sure is a dodgy gamble!

    1. Lol, it certainly is. Maybe it's because, in their short lives, they haven't settled firmly on the idea of permanence, and so something they get an overwhelming attraction to must be always nearby, like how they always need to know where Mama is.
