Saturday9ers gone Surfing, USA...and old trucks

... Because Melissa suggested Jan and Dean. Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

Want to join in the fun? Go HERE  It's fun.  Takes your mind off the serious shlock for awhile.

1) When the song was written, "Surf City" was a fictitious town.* Tell us a song that is set in a real place.
A.  New York, Newwww Yawk!

2) In the song, Jan and Dean sing about riding around in a 1934 station wagon, which means the car was 29 years old when the song was recorded. How old is your vehicle?
A. The Jeeply is 12 years old, a mere child-ling.  But the truck, she is 25 years old, a Matron who likes to kick up her heels.

3) Are you good on a surf board?
A. No.  I can get on one and belly it in through the soup.  I can't stand up.  I tried many times.  But a boogie board..  ahhhh! Loads more fun.  Mr. Z surfed.  Hey, it's California, Dudes.  Everybody's gone surfing at least once.  Surf City has nothing on the Break at Mavericks, or WindanSea.

4) When you spend time out in the sun, are you careful about applying sunscreen?
A. Lately, yes.  But not in the last century, no.  I put it on my little kiddies, though.  When I was spending time at the ocean and bay, swimming, no.  Alas, I haven't been swimming in the ocean lately.

5) Dean's original partner was Arnie Ginsburg. When Dean was drafted into the Army, Arnie didn't feel like waiting so he abandoned show business and went back to college. Today he holds several patents. What is something you wish someone would invent?
A. A two way radio to Middle Earth?

This site was found wandering on the web in the vicinity of Area 51

6) Jan was a perpetual student who juggled college with recording. He not only graduated from UCLA, he completed two years of medical school at the UC Irvine School of Medicine. Have you ever considered going back to school?
A.  Several Times.  Just when I'd get ready to do it, something important changed in my life, and wanting a Bachelor Degree seemed to be the catalyst.  So, as I didn't want anymore surprises, I gave it all up and just improved my sewing, knitting and cooking, and SUV driving.

7) In 1966, Jan was sidelined by a serious car accident. During the years that he was unable to perform, partner Dean became a graphic artist. He designed logos and album covers for Steve Martin, Diana Ross and others. Do you feel you respond most to words, pictures, or music?
 A.  Yes.  How can ANYONE choose?  I keep getting these impossible choices.  I'm sort of an Everything person. Mixed media, you might say.

8) In 1978, CBS made a TV movie about Jan and Dean. If they approached you about a made-for-TV movie of your life, who would you like to play you?
A. Very Special Agent Anthony Dinozzo (Michael Weatherly).  He'd have to wear a wig and lipstick but wth? I like his style.  His dancing outside of that storm drain was just hilarious!  He plays an idiot but I'm an idiot, too.  I just wish he wasn't gone from the show.

9) Random question:  Growing up, how did you learn about the birds and the bees? (From books/the web, from parents, from your friends...)
I'll tell you the official version.  We all, boys and girls, were told about human sexuality in Six grade sex/ed classes taught by our respective P.E. teachers.  I'm sure that a few of us already knew more than our teachers.

* Huntington Beach changed it's name to Surf City in the 1990s.
This is odd, because it must be because the surf there is crappy?  Or because of the song?  Idk.  They are crazy.  They did it for the money.  The big boys (and Girls) surf  in Windansea, Santa Cruz and at Mavericks.  And yes, I AM trying to start world war three.  Why do you ask?

From here
Awesome!

    1. Yes, I have been lucky in the latter part of my life. The first part with Mom and Dad was spent in various places inland, and all I could dream of was getting to the sea. :o)

  2. A-hem. Here is one native Californian who has never tried surfing. Ever.

Also...looking forward to Michael Weatherly's new show this fall. He may be too busy to star in the movie of your life.

    1. Well, it's never too late Bev. ;o) Well, actually it is. I don't go into the ocean anymore, sadly.
A new show for Michael Weatherly! Oh goody, I'm glad that. I hope he's not going to be to busy to don a wig and be in my movie, though. He's such a nut.

  3. "...belly it in through the soup." Yeah, I am hopelessly East Coast. Loved the description of your truck as a matron who likes to kick up her heels. Sounds a bit like her owner. Enjoy your Saturday, Zip!

  4. Girlfriend- is that you in the truck and on the surf? I thought so!!

My brother use to live in Huntington Beach many years ago. We once went horseback riding on the beach. Getting up on a horse would be near impossible it seems these days.

    1. Nay, Nay, 'Tis not I. I can only dream of being that gorgeous and half mermaid enough to pull off that spin.
And, I agree about horses. I have never been on one again and never will. They were not all as gentle and calm as my Sonny.

  5. I agree that it's hard to choose an art form, I went with pictures.

    1. I think in pictures, framing art constantly, so it's easier to pictures that but words and music, absolutely music, have big impacts on my mental processes, too. It was impossible to choose only one. I love that you have a new car. So sweet!

    1. That tune started marching through my head so loudly that I forgot about Oklahoma and Chicago. Who can forget the musicals by those names? Wow Wow. I love the Arts!

Oh yes, I will have to wait to watch any new show because commercials just make me want to upchuck, but eventually I'll see it.

Did you see that Blue Bloods is back on Netflix after that BIG GOODBYE?? I'm happy to see Jamie and his sister again. I don't like the older brother...he's just so, um .. out there.... Tom Selleck is great as Teddy Roosevelt though.

    1. Hi Katie, I know you've been challenged by some big life issues, but you are so young and you could finish in a trice. I encourage you to have a look at what's available on-line.

There are several big Universities and colleges offering on line classes; I think it's their reaction to those absolutely appalling, and expensive, pop-up diploma mills. These are quality schools like Georgia Tech and MIT.
I'm not going to get my degree but I might take some art history classes, if available, because I'm sure my two years of it 35 years ago are now passé. That was during my second try. heehee

    1. Yes, I will, and it will be a secret shared by only a few because we don't want the "Alphabet Soup" Men, listening in.... Men in Black is ok just not the, er, other ones.

  10. Oh, Nonnie, he plays the cutest very special agent in the world, clumsy, idiotic, great at sassy come backs, and a suberb foil for his bosses barbs.
