Thursday Thirteen

Thursday Thirteen

I've corrected so many mistakes but will probably find more!

I don't have a clue about what goes into this Meme, but here goes nothing!

1. I like to whistle, since I can't sing reliably any more.  Are we supposed to talk about this for a whole paragraph?  I can't do it!  I sang my way through chores and even to get the kids back into a cabin one day when a bear decided she wanted the oatmeal pan.  She got it of course.

2.  I have a Celtic name, like my grandma, and my little brother's name was André, and my sister's name is Celéste- french names.  If I had any brains at all the four daughter would have had all different names than they got, all Celtic family names, because only one of them liked their names.  Bee has a family name, my paternal auntie's name

3. I will never monetize this blog because I consider it my fun time, and I've been married to my sweetheart for 52 years, and I've only knit him one sweater before starting an Aran Sweater. Is that 2 or 3 things.  Oh my!

4. I like cats and dogs for pets, dogs better than cats, though both are loving, lovely pets.

5. I'll never think of 13 things on the fly like this.  I love teddy bears and collected quite a few both from stores and from thrift shops.  One we found on the freeway and I patched him up.  He rides in the RV with us.

6. I will craft anything that stands still.  This was made from a felling notch cut from one of our small elm trees when they were cut down in the 1980's.  I think it looks delicious.

7. I make all sorts of jewelry and used to make it to sell, casting metal settings and grinding and polishing stones to fit them, using a kiln to make layered dichroic glass for pendants.  My business is Strawberry Moon Studios. But it's closed down right now because I got very sick from something and didn't recover enough energy to start the circuit over again.   I'm almost 74 and not really think there's a lot left in me to handle torches and hot things.  We'll see.

8.  I love to take pictures and do so every day.  I especially love flowers and the angle of buildings, The sky, clouds, and heart shaped items  that show up anywhere and everywhere.

9.  I worked in a library for about a year and loved it.  This was my first job other than building houses with my brother for our father.  I got this library job right before I was thrown out of the house by a tyrannical and insane parent who then disappeared for a week to think it over, we all assumed.  My Boy friend and aunt helped me get a job  with the phone company as an operator, and since I was bilingual the company was happy about that.   It's not easy to talk tipsy Spanish speaking workers into putting more coins in the phone but it was kind of fun.

10. When I was very small I had a puppy Cinder who was as black as coal.  He was curly all over, and I loved him like a baby.  I remember dressing him up in my doll's clothes.

11.  Our family lived across the street from a Cactus seller, and my dad worked part time there when he wasn't at Law School.  I've been in love with cactus and succulents from that day forward.  It was lovely, on a hot day, to go inside the huge and cool trellis gardens and see all the plants with slatted light hitting their wee "leaves".

12.  My husband got tired of working the frame, where the wires and switches are in a telephone office back in the day.  He decided that he was going to go back outside and climb poles.  I lived in dread that he would "burn" a pole.  Shortly after he started working outside, I had to have some work on the phone.  The repairman who came over had, just the week before, "burnt" a pole.  The inside of his arms were covered with hugs scabs and he assured me that it was his own fault for being careless. He said it was the fastest trip down a pole that he's ever had, about three seconds.

13. I'm eating a lot more ice cream and chocolate trying to steady myself for the next stage of life.  I don't really care if I get fat or my teeth all fall out, but I really do want to still be able to walk.

That's all folks!  Since this is the first time for me, I'll see better what it's all about when reading the others' contributions.

Thank you to the two Hostesses!

  1. Nice getting to know you, Zip. As far as your questions about content on T-13,-ANYTHING GOES! You'll get the hang of it. You can always scroll back through old Linkys at the T13 site to see what a huge range of cool stuff people post. I'm sporadic, but many are regulars, and they're ALWAYS cool to visit. Welcome aboard.

    1. Thank you, Ron. That's a good tip about "mining" the linkys for ideas on what to post. Nice to meet you.

  2. Hi Zippi! So glad to see you giving Thursday 13 a try! Your TT is great - I learned so much about you all at once! You have had an interesting and varied life. I didn't know telephone repairmen could get "burned" like that. I don't know why men like the dangerous jobs! Welcome to our little band of Thursday listers.

    1. Hi CountryDew! And thanks for the welcome. This really looks like a meme to have some fun with. Thanks for leaving the linkback on the 9ers.
Dangerous jobs. I guess they like the excitement of danger; I used to be that way but not anymore. I liked to walk the ridge line and nail on the rafters. Very fun. The semi wild horse cured me, I think.

  3. Welcome to the TT. You are in good form and this random get to know you list was the intention of the original creator back when we started doing it in 2005 or 6! I enjoyed your list. A cactus seller and a pole burn kind of stopped me in my tracks. Hope you'll come around and get to know the other TT bloggers.

    1. Thanks for the nice welcome, Colleen. I will be going around "country house visiting", as it is so much fun, to the other TT bloggers but I'm usually a day or so late in doing that. Cactus Pete, is in business at a different location, since L.A. annexed the area and put a freeway through all the property there sometime in the 60's I think. Everything about that sweet little neighborhood is gone.

  5. Number eight would explain why you enjoyed my post today. I tend to post a lot of photo T13s -- partly because I can't do "on the fly" posts as well as Colleen, and partly because I take a LOT of photos, esp. in summer and fall -- and how else would I be able to share them all? Thanks for visiting! My T13

    1. Hiya Heather, so true, flowers are so photo worthy. I like clouds, too. and think that it's odd that it bugs men. Guys ask "Why do women post so many freaking pictures of clouds?"

I'm already planning pictorial collages like some others had, and sometimes I'll just put up pics of where I've been in the half acre. We have what the Aussie's call The Wet and The Dry, here, so we hibernate for most of the dry because it's so HOT!

    1. Hiya Gemma, This was a seat of the pants maiden flight of a meme. I tossed up an ungodly mix of stuff and it seems to have worked out. Very fun to do! Thanks!
