Saturday9 Double Header... Ella and Elvis... so fine!

We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here is today's questions!

Here is the Play along LINKIE

The Divine Ella...

Saturday 9: O, Holy Night (1967)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This beloved carol takes its lyrics from a French poem. What else can we thank the French for?  Their culture and their cuisine, as well as for being in the way of the Kaiser and the Nazis and slowing both of them DOWN as best they could without being completely annihilated.

2) How well do you know  "O, Holy Night?" Without looking up the lyrics, could you sing along with Ella?  Yes, but not as well as when I still had a nice voice.  I pretty much know/ knew all the Christmas songs and even the Churchy ones.

3) In order to get this record into stores in time for Christmas 1967, Ella had to record this in late July. So let's reverse that. Now that it's Christmastime, what do you miss most about summer?  July is still a beautiful month where I live, and I miss the flowers and the tomato plants growing like weeds.  The tomatoes have still been giving us tomatoes, and the little yellow rose is still blooming away. But, of course, it is nice to finally have AC.

4) Sam is crazy about the open toed pumps she'll be wearing to holiday parties, but that means she needs to get a pedi. Will you be at a salon between now and year-end?  No.

5) Will you be consuming any egg nog this holiday season? And if you do, will it be spiked?
Yes, I will probably have a little eggnog this year.  But, no, it won't be spiked.  Those days are over and it was something I didn't like the taste of unless it was very faint.

6) Thinking of holiday cuisine, what's your favorite Christmas cookie?
I like the pretty decorated cookies that my grand nieces make but I don't eat any.

7) Sam knows she will get a bottle of red wine from her boss, because that's what he gives his staff every year. Is there a gift you can count on receiving?
I'm hoping for See's Candy.

8) What one gift would you most like to receive this year? Do you think anyone will get it for you?  My one gift is impossible for anyone to give.  I want a sweet house in Santa Cruz that the kids could share and have no worries in.

9) This time of year is big for charitable fundraising. Here's your chance to plug a cause or organization that's near and dear to you.
Any one of the Orgs in my sidebar is near to my heart.  They all do incredible work for humans and other earthlings.-

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!

last week's Saturday 9:

The King!

"Snowbird" song by Elvis Presley:

Saturday 9: Snowbird (1971)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Elvis wants the snowbird to fly away and take the snow back with her. Have you seen a measurable snowfall yet this season?  Well, no.  But then we seldom do.  We did have a flurry of snow in a neighborhood which is only a hop, skip, and jump away.  Some of it actually dusted the ground for about five minutes.  Such Excitement!

2) Drivers in snowy climes are encouraged to keep salt, sand or kitty litter in the trunk because those items can help a car regain traction in the snow. Do you have an emergency kit in your car right now? If so, what's in it?  We keep flares and a fire extinguisher.  A few years  ago we were able to put out an engine fire in another vehicle that had been hit.

3) Back in 2007, North Dakota set the world record for the most snow angels made at one time (8,910). Do you enjoy playing in the snow?  I love the snow, as only a child of  southern climes can do.  I loved it when Mom and I went to Ohio where my two brothers were born, and I love it here when  the Laguna's get a nice snow.  We've been it drought so long it's almost like a dream of yore but snowfall actually closed the highway through the mountains once.

4) Chionophobia is the fear of snow. Astraphobia is the fear of thunder and lightening. Lilapsophobia is the fear of tornadoes and hurricanes. Do you have to cope with any of these fears?  I LOVE  inclement weather, so I have no fear of snow - if I'm not driving- or of thunder or lightening.  I do fear tornados and hurricanes because they have the potential to hurt everything in their paths.  The cost of such weather is far too high and it's dreadful.

5) Elvis' daughter Lisa Marie split her childhood between Memphis and Los Angeles, so she seldom saw snow. When she was a little girl, she was whisked her off to Denver in her father's private plane so the two of them could spend an afternoon playing in the snow. If you could take off and spend the afternoon anywhere in the world, where would you go?  having read other responses, I would stay home.  Unless and until there are teleporting devices.

6) At home and onstage, Elvis refused to wear jeans and only wore denim if a film role demanded it. This is because when he was young, classmates teased him for "dressing poor" in jeans and coveralls. What did you wear to class when you were in grammar school?  Dresses.  It was the 50's and school boards were both prim and demanding.  I'm glad that the Great Rebellion started before my own daughters had to wear dresses, only, to school.  They would have told someone, "kiss my grits".

7) Elvis and President Jimmy Carter are distant relatives (the President is the sixth cousin of the King's great grandfather). Your turn: Tell us about one of your more interesting relatives.
I don't know a lot about my relatives other than that my grandmother was a great granddaughter of the Cumberland Gap McCoys.  My Great Grandmother McCoy married a Welsh coal miner, and was so spry that she could still jump rope with her great granddaughters when she was 93.  Them little hill folk were tough.

8) In 1971, when Elvis released his recording of "Snowbird," You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown was a hit on Broadway. Who is your favorite Peanuts character?
I liked Pig Pen, since he reminded me of my rough and tumble little bro.

9) Random question: You receive a gift certificate from a gourmet food company that can be redeemed for one of these three things: 1 lb. of caviar, 5 lbs. of steak or a 10 lb., live lobster. Which would you choose?  I don't want or like any of them.  Sorry.  I'll give the gift certificate to a relative who does though.

  6. I must be missing out because I don't know what See's is. I suppose I must look it up! (I don't mind the snow if I don't have to go out, but my husband always has to go out in to check the cattle, and I do mind that because it worries me.)

    1. Snow is just pretty bad if you don't want to be out in it, and yes, it's a big worry to have a beloved person out there in it, trying to sort out the cattle. *hugs* I know this feeling.

      See's is delicious.
