Thursday Thirteen: link added

Want to play along? Go HERE  It's fun and a great mind teaser.

These were hard to find.  Some were from memories of my mother, grandparents, old midwestern friends and aunts and uncles who imparted their wisdom to an impressionable little girl.

1. "A watched pot never boils."

2. "Waste not, want not."

3. "The first hundred years are the hardest."

4. "One must never burn bread."

5. "Enough is as good as a feast."

6. "Time is a great teacher, but unfortunately it kills all it's students"  Hector Berlioz.

7. "He who asks is a fool for five minutes.  But he who does not ask is a fool forever."

8. "Like father, like son"

9. "A sharp tongue or pen can kill without a knife"

10. "What you don't see, you don't desire"

11. "Better a dish of herbs with friends than a feast with an enemy."

12. "Teachers open the door; you enter by yourself"

13. Most modern one:
"Being different is totally American. It comes with a constitutional guarantee."  It sounds like Emerson maybe?

  1. My mother always said, "I've only got two hands!" She had nine kids.

    1. Goodness! That's a lot of little honyoks! I always wanted four arms myself and with only four to raise.

  2. Replies
    1. Thanks, sandyland. These are mostly from the Midwest Bible Belt but some from the FarEast.

  3. Fun list, though Emerson would never have used a phrase like "totally American." Much too modern a sentiment for a Transcendentalist. And let's not forget, "The Pen is Mightier than the Sword." :D Thanks for visiting my list!

  4. Indeed, the pen is mightier than the sword. And no, a Transcendentalist would not have used such a phrase, That sounds totally counter culture. lol I am Counter Culture, much to my in laws dismay. Blog visits are the closest I can come to being a Social Butterfly, so I savor them!

  5. I'm not so sure about that constitutional guarantee at the moment. Good reminders, though.

I just realized seeing the picture on the side that your daughter and I share the same birthday, only I am a year older. She was beautiful. I am so sorry you lost her.

  6. Thank you Country Dew. You are so sweet. I miss her with every breathe I take.

Oh Yes, that constitutional guarantee. I have my doubts about a lot that used to be. We'll see. There are people on both sides, many of whom are presently blind to the implications of leaving this odious man in office for very long, who will impeach "His Majesty, Donald of Orange". But the guy right behind him should be thrown out, too, as WORSE! This is not 15th century England after all.
