Saturday 9: Yankee Doodle Dandy...

HEAR it HERE

From the archives

1) This week's song was performed by James Cagney in the famous movie of the same name. Do you plan on going to the movies this holiday weekend?
Nope.  I don't plan on going anywhere.  I'll just stay home and read my book, and cuddle my dog. I will, maybe, watch some Father Brown mysteries.  This week's song came out the year I was born.  Hmmm.. Kewl!

2) Though known for his larger-than-life screen presence, Cagney was only 5'5". How tall are you?
On a good day, I'm 5'2".

3) During the Revolutionary War, General Washington celebrated the 4th of July by giving his troops a double ration of rum. Will you imbibe any spirits this holiday weekend?
Not likely.

4) American history was one of Crazy Sam's best subjects in school. Science was her worst. In which class did you earn your worst grades?
Arithmetic. Always got B's with a major struggle!   And got a B in Algebra because of it.  I Hate it.  Other maths?  I love them.

5) The Fourth of July means we're in the middle of summer. Are you careful about applying sunscreen?
I cover up and do wear a little lip gloss.  Since the medicine I take makes me sensitive to the sun, I stay out of it.

6) Mosquito bites can be a major summer annoyance. Are you scratching any itches right now?
I was bitten by something when we were away, camping out.  So far that  just resulted in an annoying itchy spot for a bit.

7) Emergency rooms report an increase in wrist injuries in summer, with people falling off bikes and skateboards and jamming their wrists catching hard-hit softballs. Have you recently been to the ER or Urgent Care?
*Knocking on wood* To answer your question, I've not been there since being told by my doctor to Hie on over to the nearest hospital and get checked in, without delay.... That was maybe three years ago.  I was a LOT sicker than I seemed. lol

8) New York is home to Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest every year on the 4th. Will hot dogs be consumed in your household this weekend?
I'm not sure, but I hope there is to be a potato salad.  I will happily make it myself!

9) Atlanta hosts a 10K Peachtree Road Race every 4th of July. Are you a runner?
Not anymore.  I thought I'd ride my bike for the rest of my life and that didn't happen either.

Dang it!

  1. I miss riding my bike. But the roads around here are so congested, and my mind wanders so easily, that I don't think riding is a good idea.

Here's hoping there's potato salad in your future!

  2. I take a medicine that makes me sensitive to the sun, also--plus I'm a fair skinned red head--so it's just trouble all around!

    1. Medicine and the sun. *sighs* My three red headed and fair dd's have to really grease up when they go into the sun. And, yes, it's trouble all around. One of them already had a big melanoma removed. Hope you never have that fun. gah...

  3. I love the Father Brown Mysteries! I've got a couple on the DVR that I plan to watch this weekend. They're so much fun.
I'm hoping for potato salad, too. But then, I always hope for potato salad!

Happy Saturday, and have a Happy 4th!

    1. They sure are fun. The modern ones are a little too brutal but those are like Miss Marples, yes? So genteel.
I love potato salad and, of late, pasta salad. With summer upon us, I'm making us some!

      Happy Saturday, J and a Happy 4th!

    1. Good for you to keep the traditions going!
I'm making my grandmother's recipe. But I hate mushy potatoes so steam little reds. She used some sort of white potato. Not bad but not as good. What's that tale about "this is the axe that George Washington cut down the cherry tree with"? heehee

Oh, your poor Knee! And, I hope you get to ride your bike again. TBH, if I could have kept riding, I would have been healthier. So, Best Wishes! And, Happy Saturday, and Happy Fourth of July!

  6. I have zero plans for the 4th. I expect my husband to be working and I will be alone most of the day. Maybe we will see fireworks but I don't know. We're a bunch of short little people, aren't we?

    1. We are a bunch of shorties. lol. Well, Diana is tall so she has to be our "Lookout".
And I actually like quiet holidays better than the fourth and new years. They scare the birds out of the Trees, so they do! They certainly scare my little dog!

  7. I love potato salad, but I honestly don't think I've ever made it myself. I'll have to remedy that soon! Hope you get some!

    1. We are going to make some, Yay! I'll throw out some advice. Don't do it the way that they say on the recipes on the web. Steam whole small white rose or reds, set them aside to cool overnight, and peal and cut them up next morning. It's tastes better and is a lot less messy and gummy.
