Off the top of my head for the week beginning on the 29th... This is a mishmash of stuff.
I've realized that politics can't be the only thing I ever think about or it will make me sick.

4. Note to self: "You really NEED to clean your keyboard!"
5. Why haven't we gotten any rain? The weeds, bushes, back country and the buddleias need the rain! Forget the lawns. Lawns are stupid in drought.
6. I found my sock needle stash!
A word about the blog above. She is a extremely good seamstress and also upcycler. She has made lovely things from used garments. HERE is an example. It's great to be inspired from time to time...
BUT, anyway, back to the Stash. It was in the Rigger bag underneath all the shoes I am sending away to new homes.
7. Wolfie is coming home from the Groomers today and will be looking pretty, so it's time to get a great picture of him for Instagram!
8. I need to send some more shoes to Goodwill. Shoes and clothing and teddy bears, Oh my. I can't part with my Teddies! But take them down and clean them? Yes..
9. Ah, those Koch(y) brothers, those libertarian "Hoodlinis". If the so called "Christian" Right only KNEW what they were carrying on their backsides.....
This, below, is a quote from a review of the book above ^, by Nick Gillespie of the "Daily Beast".....
Globalized? Wow... I thought Globalization was the Horror of the Christian Right.
Who knew?
Ok, I'm done with the political carping. But don't kid yourself. They mean to ruin your Earthly life, these people who think they can run the world because they have most of the "play money".
And, Honey, if you can't take IT with you, it's ALL play money...
Well, Peace out everyone!
10. I am starting to be able to remember my past with my first child, Elle, with a little less pain. How I loved that little baby of mine.
I just wished I'd had my thyroid medicine at the time, which I needed a whole lot! I had Hyper- driven and dragged myself through life until then, with a short respite from bone crushing exhaustion when my OB-GYN treated it for a short time. Kaiser ignored it, calling it Low normal. Well, it was well below normal. I was nearly comatose, as Good Doctors at Scripps Clinic 25 years later found out.
Doctors who don't treat an illness (unless shamed and arm wrestled to the ground) in the modern medical HMO's don't make the world a better place, now do they?
My Scripp's Doctor opined that this neglect most likely caused me to have CFS and later, Fibromyalgia.
11. I've thought a lot about reading, and how it changes a person's life. Last night I found this picture of me with a favorite book of Fairy tales. I was four here. I read at three and started school at four. Yes, my dears, I am old enough that I was born before the rules were changed.
I remember reading everything from signs to maps and labels, and going to the library. It was so exciting!
It is amazing, this freedom to read anything we want to in our Country. I hope that this doesn't disappear in the years to come. One of the things that we might see is book banning and maybe even burning. This Nazi mind control cannot be allowed to take over here!

Hope you you enjoyed this random 13. Now, I think I'll go to take a nap!

This is Three 3/4th o them. Some are in the RV. They were found on the road; one of them literally was IN the road. I sewed her little dangling leg back on and she's traveled with us forevermore. |

This, below, is a quote from a review of the book above ^, by Nick Gillespie of the "Daily Beast".....
"Written by a senior editor for the lefty magazine Mother Jones, the book is hugely revelatory, though not in a way that will please or flatter the conspiracy theories of Democrats, liberals, and progressives who vilify the Kansas-raised billionaires Charles and David Koch for fun and profit. Sons of Wichita chronicles the post-World War II transformation of a mid-size oil-and-ranching family business into the second-largest privately held company in the United States. From a straight business angle, it’s riveting and illuminating not just about how Koch Industries—makers of “energy, food, building and agricultural materials…and…products* [that] intersect every day with the lives of every American”—evolved over the past 60 years but also how the larger U.S. economy changed and globalized." (italics are mine)*one of which is Kleenex...
Globalized? Wow... I thought Globalization was the Horror of the Christian Right.

Don't get me started on doctors. It took me years and years to find a good one.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of up-cycling, but generally don't go for the results. The quilt is pretty, but I'd never have enough shirt fabric in good enough condition to attempt it.
Money talks in this Country. The richer you are, the better time you have getting doctors who can afford to listen. We doubt we will ever have a great healthcare system, meaning one that ranks with the rest of the industrial world because of this.
DeleteUpcycle is the way to go for quilt fabric.. That quilt was made from shirts that she got from thrift stores, and a few from home. When you see the amount of clothing that goes in huge bundles to South America from even one agency, Goodwill Industries, it seems like a very good place to score enough to make some quilts. It’s shocking to see tons of new clothing going into the trash.
best list ever
ReplyDeleteThank you must kindly Sandyland. I think I have “rambling” down to a science by now, in my old age. 🙃🤪
DeleteVaried indeed, Zipster! You're right, though: most people (like yourself and like me) say, "Koch? Oh Pleeze; don't get me started."
ReplyDeleteAh, my friend. Koch should have raised many a red flag, but they still have not done their worst to our delicate
Deleteand now fragile pseudo democracy. It was only really a matter of time until some monsters arose to force this. A People never see this abrupt turn to oligarchy coming do they? Note the rise of Hitler. Ok I will now shut up and “get back to my knitting.” Thank you for your comment. ✌🏻And keep those fingers crossed.
This was great! I have CFS too and thyroid problems. When I was 19 I had a clinical anxiety/depression. Got my thyroid checked and was told it was on the low side but that I was too young to be on medication! Years later it went hyper. Maybe my CFS is related to that as well. But I often find doctors are also too quick to treat.
ReplyDeleteAh. So you know a little about this. Doctors, and surgeons especially, can be too quick to treat. But HMOs are heavily invested in not so benign neglect.
DeleteFrom the time it was detected when I was 21 and had three months with a decent health plan, until I was 55, this all went untreated. The idiotic Kaiser crew just kept refusing to do anything about it. This wouldn’t happen in say, the U.K.
Kaiser also neglected to test for gout. Two months after being able to change to Scripps, I was diagnosed and treated for that and had my other problems diagnosed. Simple tests really. And their doctors really listened. My sister is getting pretty poor care for her Parkinson’s from The Big K, as well. At this point, I’m beyond disgusted.
Frankly, I blame a lot of these auto-immune diseases on strontium 90 exposure.

What a great TT, Zippi. I loved the picture of you with your Elle. I know you must miss her dreadfully. I also have thyroid issues and while it is treated I'm not sure it's treated properly. I also have hormone problems from having a hysterectomy at the age of 29. That kind of stuff really messes up your body rhythms. And as for politics ... sigh.
ReplyDeleteThanks CountryDew. I certainly do, though her sisters and partner are coping with the most. And yes, a hysterectomy at 29 is just not good.
DeleteThyroid issues seem to be rampant in all the generations after Strontium 90 was found to be in cow's milk a very long time ago. The Government never admits anything. But why all the present day metabolic issues? Merde
Ya. Politics, where it intersects Human rights I will still spout off about. But the rest? I just consider the Republicans to be so in love with money that they have no moral fiber when it comes to a bottom line being where it best serves them. Sorry to be so blunt, but I've been watching the erosion of the party of Ike for a long, long time.
I love all these photos, so precious! I really love the one of you reading and your dress in the other one. You already know how I feel about doctors, hehe.
ReplyDeleteThanks you, Ms Kara. That was my second pregnancy dress. Happily I sewed because I wore smocks and tent dresses for two solid years and needed variety!
DeleteOh yes! Aren't doctors the devil sometimes. Boy, have we all had some rotten ones. Glad you are finally feeling better.
