Saturday9: It's Late.. Do you know where Ricky is?

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Thanks Gal!

It's Late!

Unfamiliar with this week's song. Hear it here.

Want to play along?  Go Here...

1) Ricky Nelson laments that he should have been home hours ago. When is the last time you stayed up later than you should have? What were you doing?
Trying to get tired enough to go to sleep.

2) Compounding Ricky's problem is that he's nearly out of gas. How is your gas tank right now? When did you most recently fill 'er up?
Usually we have to fill up once a week.  I think it's whenever the little warning light goes on.

3) It gets worse! He can't call home because he doesn't have a dime for the pay phone. Have you recently been in a situation where you've been glad you had your cell phone handy?
Oh yes.  I keep it close, not so much for calls but to hear texts come in.

4) The video for this song is from an episode of The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet. Ozzie Nelson, Ricky's father, was in charge of the show and made the rules. One was that no one was allowed to smoke on the set ... except his wife, Harriet. Do you smoke? Have you ever lived with a smoker?
I don't smoke.  I lived with a smoker for 19 years .. my mother.

5) Life magazine coined the phrase "teen idol" to describe Ricky's popularity. According to Tiger Beat, today's teen idols include Johnny Orlando and Ruby Jay. Johnny was born in 2003, Ruby in 2004. Sam admits that before today, she had no idea who these young people are. How about you?
I don't know who they are either.  I feel like I'm in good company, Gal.

6) While Paul McCartney and Bob Dylan have posthumously praised Ricky Nelson's music, 1950s music critics dismissed him as a lightweight. What's the last review you read? Was it written by a professional critic, or was it contributed by a consumer to a site like Amazon or Yelp?  The last review I read was probably from Amazon, and an amateur wrote it.  I sometimes read those reviews if there is a fictional novel Amazon is cutting the price on.  I need more fiction in life at the moment, the harmless kind, not the kind that brings us to the brink of war in rl.
Roman Emperor Nero and all that.. yadda yadda....

7) At the height of his popularity, Ricky tried his hand at movies, appearing in the western Rio Bravo with John Wayne. He turned 18 during the filming, and Wayne celebrated by playfully throwing Ricky into a sack of horse manure. Do you think pranks and practical jokes are funny?  I think that some can be, but that most are not .. funny that is. April Fool's aside, I think that most practical jokes entertain the meanness in us.

8) In 1959, when this song was popular, the St. Lawrence Seaway was completed. It connects Canada to our Great Lakes. Without looking it up, can you name all 5 Great Lakes? Let's see... Lake Huron, Lake Erie, Great Lake, Lake Ontario, Lake Michigan.  If those are wrong, sorry, then I can't do it! lol  To be fair, they come up a lot in cross words, my major source of mental stimulation aside from Pinterest and Instagram.

9) Random question – You drive past a local motel and see the car of a very married friend right there in the lot. Would you ask her about it?   Heck, no.

  1. Oooh, Zippiknits. You may want to stop at the gas station before the warning light.

I do not know where you live but if there are warm days and cooler nights, condensation can form in the car's gas tank. We don't want water in our gasoline. Especially modern cars with fuel injection. I always try to keep the fuel gauge at a minimum of half full.

Loved your answers. Have a lovely day.

    1. Thank you so much for the little push to not wait to the last minute to fill up! I didn't know this fact. I'll tell my daughter who also has a fuel injector... most newer cars do I guess. I long for the days of carborators, something I understand and can actually work on. lol

  2. I'm with you on the practical jokes. I hate all the shows featuring them these days...nothing but exploiting horrid behavior at the expense of innocent people.

    1. You have described those jokes perfectly. I've had so many practical jokes played on me when in grade school, and there is nothing meaner than a kid in grade school, well except for one in middle school. Gah!

    1. I can only say, in my defense, I am a LONG way from grade school, and know only the ones that come up in the cross words. Still don't know which one I missed but it has to be the one that Lake Michigan replaced. Lol...
Hope you are sleeping blissfully by now... rest up, Good Buddy!

    1. Thanks for your comment, and yes, that they are, those practical jokes. Innocence is no match for the wiles of cruelty.

    1. Well, yes and no. I'm sort of always trying to get to sleep and also wake up at a pin dropping. I nap a lot now.. I just quit fighting it. I'm getting in form for shoulder surgery and sleeping upright in a darn chair. It's just Non stop fun around here. lol

  6. I'm like you: growing up with smokers made me NEVER want to smoke or be around it ever again.

    1. I did smoke, off and on, for three years (18 and 20) but the minute I was pregnant with my first child siggies and coffee went right out the window. Talk about sick! I never tried again to smoke except one memorable time in the winter in our backyard; I took one puff, and I as flat on my back in SECONDS! That was it for cigarettes!

    1. Thanks! I hope that you do too.
About jokes...practical ones that is; they hurt people, and unless they are truly harmless little ones, and not many practical jokes are harmless.

  8. I am also not a fan of practical jokes.

    1. School teachers must see more than their fair share of them. I don't blame you a bit for not liking them. Very few of them are harmless (or victim-less).

  9. Practical jokes - bah. I'm with you on that. And good fiction is a necessity these days. I'm reading Juliet Mariller's books. You might like them.

    1. Yes, BAH! May they vanish from the society!
Thank you for the suggestion of an author. I will look for her books. I'm loading up the kindle for a long period of sitting around resting, and ice packing, after PT... There is some drama coming. lol..
