Fooled Around and Fell in Love

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here is today's questions!

Saturday 9: Fooled Around and Fell in Love (1976)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

Chosen because Friday was April Fool's Day.

1) As an April Fool's prank, Taco Bell once announced they had purchased The Liberty Bell and renamed it The Taco Liberty Bell. Describe your perfect taco.

Since over the span of 60 years I've made thousands of tacos, I'll tell you what I do, or rather did, when I still ate beef.

I fried the taco shell, and then put the cooked seasoned meat in it, the  shredded jack cheese, chopped tomato, some fresh salsa, and lettuce on top. It's still my favorite taco but now I just get Chipotlé's bean and rice ones.

2) In 1989, a British policeman investigated a flying saucer that had landed in a field in Surrey. When a figure in a space suit emerged, the policeman ran away. Turns out it was a hot air balloon, designed by billionaire Richard Branson to look like a UFO as an April Fool's prank/publicity stunt. Have you ever seen a UFO? Yes, and in broad daylight.  From our front yard at the time, and on a semi cloudy day, my husband and I stopped working on the yard, and looked up and saw a very bright set lights come up over the top of the clouds and hover.  Then we heard the planes from North Island scramble.  The lights came a little closer to us, and they stopped, paused for a half a second and shot like bullets out to the south east of us and disappeared in the distance. I've never seen anything in the sky move that fast, and never seen anything like that again. This is the last time I tell this because I think it's been asked before. lol

3) This week's song is about a man who collected girls' phone numbers in a little book. When he and she broke up, he'd tear out her page. Do you keep an pen-and-paper address book? Or do you use your cellphone to hold street addresses as well as phone numbers?  I don't store anything on my phone that I can write anywhere more secure, like in my address book.  I don't use my phone to donate to causes or to buy anything either. Call me old fashioned, but I like to have a hard copy of these things.

4) This was the biggest hit blues guitarist Elvin Bishop ever had, but that's not him singing it. While he's proud of his composing and guitar prowess, Bishop felt his voice was too gravelly for this song. Do you like your singing voice?  Its a pretty song and too bad he didn't sing it.

As to my voice: Not anymore. I used to love to sing. I was in choir every year in grade school, Junior High and High School. And I sang all the time.. all the time.. as an adult until one day I made a pledge to God not to sing anymore until there was peace in Central America.  Well, that pretty much never happened.

5) A brainy kid, Elvin Bishop won a full scholarship to the University of Chicago, where he majored in physics. Obviously, though, as a blues guitarist he doesn't lean on that physics degree very often. What's something you learned in school that you seldom used again?  How to do Lay-ups in Basketball when you are only five foot five and your opponent is a certified giant. (Varsity)

6) Elvin was born in Iowa, grew up in Oklahoma, went to college in Illinois, recorded in Georgia and now lives in California. How many different states have you called home?  Only one, though because of the war I was born at my Grandparent's Farmhouse in Ohio, to my California resident Mama and Papa.

7) In 1976, the Summer Olympics were held in Montreal. When did you most recently visit our neighbor to the north?  I've never had the pleasure, though it still could happen.

8) Nadia Comaneci was the star of the 76 Olympics, scoring a perfect 10 in gymnastics. What have you enjoyed lately that you would rate "a perfect 10?" I have mastered Addi Flexie Flips, that not-so-new needle set for in-the-round knitting.

9) Random question: Do you ever talk to your TV?  I always am talking to the people I see on TV. It'S one of the best ways to blow off some stream!

Thank you Sam for this fun MEME.

  1. Wow, that is quite the UFO story! I am always looking up, but have never seen anything. :( Now that you mention it, I can't say I've made any lay-ups recently. Have a great weekend, Zippi!

    1. It was unforgettable. I think they are supposed to be. The Scrambling of the fighters at North Island was like a response so I am sure we weren't the only ones to see something that day. Also, when the lights, and they were very bright lights, not discernable as ships, started to come closer to us, that's when the fighters scrammed. The lights paused, and then they shot off to the Southwest and were gone in two seconds, from a static position. There is still no known craft, that I know of, that can do that.

  2. I totally believe you saw a UFO. I share the opinion from the movie Contact--if we're the only ones in the universe, it's a terrible waste of space. Have a great weekend!

    1. Thank you, and we are still in awe of it some 50 years later. Re Contact quote, It would be a terrible waste of space, wouldn't it!
I'll have to see that movie! Wishing you a great and easy going Sunday. Cheers!

    1. WOWOW! Very Cool! I hope that you got to shake her hand so that some of the luck and skill involved in that triumph would rub off on yours. That's a phenomenal win!

    1. Thank you Lori. We just had Burritos here at La Casa Verde. UFO's may never be explained but they certainly have a big effect on the ones seeing them.
May the Force Be With You. 🖖

    1. "You tells it like you sees it, and only them what has experienced "it" can understands it." Bugs Bunny...
I understand yours. Mine? Well, that was the day that I knew for a certainty that we are not alone, and even if something exists in another dimension, it can show itself to the down hearted and/or weary ones in ours. Like Jesus, walking through a door because He was more real than the door. One of the few things that were said by Billy Graham that impressed me.

    1. They are pretty cool on the whole. Once you get the hang of them, that is, and they do take some getting used to. They are great, and easier on my hands. I'm still getting used to them though.

  7. I've never heard of the Addi Flexie Flips either.

And I realized that I left cilantro off of my taco story, but I didn't see anybody else who added it either.

    1. Hi Bev. Ah... the Addi Flex Flips: They arose in Europe so maybe that's why. I got stuck into double pointed needles ( no pun intended)in a big way, and actually like them. That there could be anything else out there that my hands could handle never occurred to me.

The reason that you don't see Cilantro much is that it goes into the Salsa when we make it, at least that's what I do.

I've also learned to use the Chrome browser. It's the one that works best.

  8. That's tres cool about your UFO. I agree with you about keeping everything on your phone. What happens if you lose it?
