Saturday 9

Welcome to Saturday 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

 No Roots (2017)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This song is about a woman who has moved a lot and is always packing boxes. Do you have packing materials (boxes, bubble wrap, packing tape, etc.) in your home right now? Do you have them on hand to ship things, or are you preparing for a move?  I have it to ship things with.  I used to do that when I ran my business.  Nowadays, I still send stuff out, but not regularly.

2) She sings that she moves from place to place, collecting memories. Would you rather travel light and travel often, or put down roots?  I have the heart of a Nomad.  I could have easily and happily lived as one.

Oh, incidentally, we are going to watch the movie, "Nomadland" tonight.  Netflix had it on disc.  I'm so excited!  I know I am too old to live this life, but at least I've been able to be a partial nomad for a good many years.

3) She can recall all the gates and house numbers of all the places she's lived. Does your current residence have a fence and gate? Did your previous one?  Our current home has gates and a tall fence.  We like (love) pet dogs, and I could never live anywhere that didn't have a gate and fences, so that answers the second part of the question.

4) This week's artist, Alice Merton, moved often as a child as her father's job took the family from Germany to the US to Canada to England back to Germany ... She wrote this song to help her deal with feelings of loneliness and longing. When you're feeling overwhelmed, how do you work through the feelings?  I meditate.  I've meditated nearly my whole adult life.  My life has been better for it, you know.... it's been Calmer.

5) Alice is still on the move. Soon she'll be performing throughout Europe. Have you ever had a job that required you to travel? If yes, did you enjoy it? I've never had a job that required travel.  But we did go to see some place with our  children when they were home, and camped out which was the best thing ever!  I love cooking on a campfire.

When they were all grown up and out on their own, we started traveling with our Rockhound friends, and a couple of relatives as well.  It was loads of fun.  We went all over the southwestern states with other Rock Hounds.  We also met up with the kids, for Thanksgiving at a halfway point one year.  Loved it.

6) "No Roots" is a favorite of Kelly Clarkson's, who has performed it on tour and on TV. When you think of Kelly, is at as a singer, a judge on The Voice, or as a talk show host?  Hmm... To be honest, I'm not familiar with that show, nor do I know who she is. The singer in the video has sort of harsh sounding voice, to my ear anyway.

7) In 2017, when this song was popular, Faye Dunaway made Oscar history by announcing the wrong winner for the biggest award of the night, Best Picture. It wasn't her fault as she was given the wrong envelope, but she's one who made the on-screen flub seen around the world. Have you recently had an embarrassing moment?   No, actually, but that shouldn't be surprising. I've been living "small" these days, and hardly see anyone to be embarrassed about much.

My BADD home cut hair?  lol

This is SIMILAR but NOT ME!

8) Wonder Woman was 2017's most popular movie. She was originally introduced in a 1941 DC comic book. Comic books remain a big business. Have you ever been to a comic book store?

No, but when I was four and living with my grandparents, my two young aunts were part of a comic book swap.  they traded boxes of comic books with a group of friends weekly I think, and every Sunday afternoon we all laid on our bellies reading through them.  One of the best memories my four year old self has of being that age. Comics are easy reads, and I adored reading about teens like my aunts, in "Archie".

9) Random question: Is your skin itchy this morning?  I'm answering this on Friday afternoon, and have just had a shower. So, the answer is no. We take our showers when the solar water heater has had the time to heat up the water.

Thanks again Sam!  You know that I love this meme.

  1. I've never tried meditation. I should! I need to chill out sometimes.

That comic book swap sounds like a lot of fun. What a terrific memory.

    1. You may well like to meditate for calm. Controlling your breath and your wandering mind is quite a powerful Path to Peace.
I meditate on the life of the most wonderful human who ever lived, Jesus, and sometimes on a single point of nothingness. Sometimes I imagine Rumi is sitting near by, too.

    2. PS. The comics were a lot of fun. I have so many happy memories of my Grandparents' farm.

  2. I didn't have aunts who loved comic books, but when I was a very little girl we lived in town and walked down the block and around the corner to church on Sundays. Afterward, my dad and I would walk to the news stand to get the Sunday paper and a comic book. I liked the Archie comics, too, and also Casper and Little Lulu. Good memories. Thanks for making me think of them this morning.

    1. Aww you're very welcome. Happy Memories for the two of us, then. Those were the happiest times for me as a child. Living with a sane father figure that actually loved us! lol

  3. I used to go backpacking all the time but now I'm too old to sleep in a tent. The last time I didn't I couldn't get up.

    1. I know how that feels, having three firm, foam mattresses and still your back is aching. We don't tent camp anymore. We got a RV when we joined the Rockhounds, everyone else had one, and it was such a great life style for a couple of overgrown kids. Camping in comfort.

    1. Thanks! About the hairdo... and all. We will watch the movie tonight because, well, things came up. You know how life is. Hope you have exactly the kind of weekend that you love. Sweet. Happy. Full of fun.

  5. Kelly Clarkson won American Idol at some point and became a famous singer; I only know one of her songs (Because of You), and relate to that one. She was a judge on The Voice in past seasons but won't be on in the upcoming season, and she has a talk show now. I like the way you described your lifestyle today. I think I am living "small," too.

    1. Hi Country Dew. Thank you for the "skinny" on Kelly. I think I'll go listen to more of her singing. She has a tiny echo of Judy Garland in her voice it seems to me. I loved Judy's husky, somewhat smokey voice.
Since I'm going to be eighty in a few months, with CFS and related junk going on, I am tired. TIRED.. lol I don't mind at all living small. Enjoy the sunrises and sunsets, and just take life easy. There is NO Rush Rush, nor Razzle Dazzle and anymore.
