Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it HERE
1) While this song was published as "The Christmas Song," many people refer to it as "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire." Have you ever roasted chestnuts (in an open fire or in the oven)? I never have but my mother would roast them in the oven when, and if, her relatives back east sent them. Personally, I like Water chestnuts better.
2) Ricky Nelson sings that turkey helps make the season bright. Many of us just had turkey last month for Thanksgiving. Do you enjoy turkey all year around? Or do you consider it a seasonal dish? Most of my life when I ate turkey, it was completely seasonal. We don't eat turkey anymore, except if we go to a big family dinner; then DH eats it and I have stuffing, which I like more anyway.
3) He wishes "Merry Christmas" to kids from 1 to 92. Who is the youngest person you will celebrate the holidays with? Who is the oldest? If we go to hubby's sister's house, and the youngest is one of the great grandchildren. The oldest person is her hubby who must be 90 years old by now. I've lost track of his age since we haven't had a big family celebration or seen any of the relatives, face to face, in three years.
4) "The Christmas Song" is a perennial favorite and gets lots of play this time of year. Is there a holiday song that you think is overplayed, and that you hope to not hear again (at least not until December 2023)? I don't think any are over played because I love Christmas songs. Well, except (maybe) for the one about Grandma getting run over by Reindeer. LOL! Nah, I even like that one. What a Whoot!
6) Life magazine coined the phrase "teen idol" to describe Ricky's popularity. In your younger days, did you have a crush on a teen idol? I sort of had a teenage crush on Richie Valens.
7) Do you have a funny/ugly holiday sweater? I don't but I have some pretty ones. I'm wearing one now with my strange turned up toed little fuzzy slippers.
8) Have you received many holiday cards this year? Yes, I've gotten four. Did you send many? I send out ones to people who send me one. When I get one, I send them one. My friends are my age and this has been a rough few years. So, this way I know what I send won't come back to me ... you know? It's been a tough few years for the Elders.....
9) If you were Santa, what cookie would you like kids to leave for you on Christmas Eve? I would like to have either pecan Snowball cookies, or Cherry filled sugar cookies like my Aunt Becky used to make. They are the best cookie I've ever tasted. My hubbies Mama made Pecan Snowballs for decades! They are gorgeous cookies. Yes, I am indeed a cookie monster.

We both said the same things for #4. I need to make some Mexican Wedding cakes/cookies. The grands want more gingerbread cookies.
ReplyDeleteI like your happy attitude toward all Christmas music.I've seen every episode of Downton, too. At least twice. (Except the one where Mary gives birth to George. I won't rewatch that one. You know why, don't you?)
ReplyDeleteI'm also a Christmas music fan--I play it all the time. I forgot about Downton Abbey, I've seen every episode (twice at least).

#1 I would say it is an acquired taste, I used to roast them over the fire in the fireplace for my maternal grandmother.
ReplyDelete#3 My bother and me are the elders of the family.
#8 That is what I would do, send one after I got one, but the new trend seems to be Christmas post cards with a family picture on the front and a short message on the back.
#9 My paternal grandmother used to make Italian Wedding cookies which are the same thing.
