Tom Jones: "What's New, Pussycat?"

What's New, Pussycat?

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here is today's questions!

Saturday 9: What's New, Pussycat? (1965)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

Welcome to the first Saturday 9 of 2023.

1) In this song, Tom Jones wants to know what's new in his girl's life. Here at Saturday 9, we're concentrating on the new year. What do you hope will be new and different in your life during 2023?I'm hoping that my kids are all happy, and that I will finally get rid of all the things from running a craft business that I no longer need or want in  my life.

 2) He sings that he has flowers for his special girl. Are there fresh flowers in your home right now?None, but I am hoping to get started back to having African Violets inside.  And, I'd like to get my pretty potted garden back outside, and all the rest of my flowers.

3) He also wants to spend hours with her. What is something you'd like to spend more time doing in 2023?  Please see Answer #1.

4) Before his music career took off, Tom Jones supported himself by selling vacuum cleaners. Could your home benefit from a once-over with a vacuum right now?   It certainly can.  I'm finding the new hand held vacuum very nice, but very heavy for my hands.  It will be part of my 2023 weight training program.

5) Memorabilia from Tom's 1990 world tour was available eBay and the bids went up to $599 a jacket worn by the stage crew. Have you ever bought anything at an auction (online or otherwise)?  Yes, once upon a time, at a PBS Auction, I bought Piano lessons.  I learned the chords on the keyboard and how to use them to play songs. It was fun.  But I discovered that I really wanted to play by note, and  the Piano is now long gone.

6) Tom's adult grandson, Alex, represented Wales in rifle shooting in the Commonwealth Games. Is there a sport you'd like to try, or get better at, in 2023?  No, I am just a little too old to learn a new sport.  Well, I could do weight lifting while cleaning boxes out, so that I can get yet ANOTHER benefit from my business clearings.

7) In 1965, when this song was popular, Tom Jones made a new friend, Elvis Presley. Tom had a meeting at Paramount Studios to discuss recording a song for a movie soundtrack and Elvis was finishing a film. It was the beginning of a friendship that would continue for the rest of Elvis' life. Did you make any new friends in 2022?  Yes, two on line friends.  We have been exchanging Political snark.  It's been fun.  I'm pretty sure neither of them is an insurrectionist.  Hehe... We are of an age that we can TALK and THINK about tossing smoke bombs but not actually be able to HEFT them.

8) Also in 1965, The Sound of Music premiered and became one of the most successful movies of all time. Have you seen it?   Yes, I saw it in a Theater.  The BIG screen.  It was Glorious!

9) Random question: Were you like those shoppers we saw on TV, in line at a retailer after the holidays to exchange a gift that wasn't quite right?  I was not.  The return lines got major billings and were on television 📺 wow!  A slow news day, eh?

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!

Thanks, Sam!  This is always fun.

  1. I got a handheld vacuum for Christmas. It is perfect for cleaning the mess I make while I am crafting. So, you owned a craft business? What kind of crafts? I work mostly with paper crafts and sewing things too. I have yarn too but can only make scarfs with the same stitch. It has been a while and I forgot how to end the last row.

    1. Awww.. Those are such wonderful little things! Those baby vacuums. We've had a couple, and one now lives in the garage and the other in the RV. It's time to get one of those little gadgets back into the house.

The Crafts... well, I make jewelry and made and make my own cabs as well as facetted stones made on both a cabbing machine and a faceting machine, back in the day. And I used to cast metal findings and things but don't have the muscles (or the Patience) for it anymore. The casting machine went to our daughter. But I still do an occasional wire wrapping for a stone I've cut. And I slip cast a TON of various things for Holidays, flower vases, tea pots and a few tea sets... Never did much porcelain but did do a few. And I sewed purses from a couple purse patterns that were intriguing to me. I still have my two easy ups, and the jewelry cases. I really need to get this stuff moving out and away. It's time.

  2. I need to wage a war on clutter, too.
I wonder if that news footage of shoppers returning Christmas gifts wasn't from the archives. After all, they do the same story every year. (Did I spy a woman in line with Farrah hair?)

    1. It may have been but you never know.. isn't Farrah hair back in style? heehee
My craft room and the one part of the big room are the problem for me. I need to sell off or more likely just give the old HEAVE HO! to so much of that stuff. Good will it! Some crafter will love to have it! Amvets and Saint Vincent de Paul, here it comes!

  3. #2 I tried making a terrarium a couple of times but they didn’t last.
#6 Ditto, cleaning up the house is good exercise but it is so hard with my shortness of breath.

    1. shortness of breath is no fun. So, I hope you get an quick answer, and the happiest of answers, to the shortness of breathe. Hope it's something that an antibiotic can take down like a gorilla fighting a, say, chimpanzee for dominance. Fingers Crossed for you!

    1. Thanks Lori. They can be so lovely. I'm also going for several Christmas Cacti and even a few Easter ones. Enjoy the week with your new understudy.

  5. I need to rid my office of clutter. I keep the rest of the house fairly free of it, but it seems to land in here. Mostly books and notebooks, papers of all sorts. One of these days I will purge. Good luck with your purging!

    1. Thanks CountryDew. We can purge together! I'm starting in one corner of the big room and getting rid of stuff in there. There are only two places that are in need of a purge. Both involve machines and things that need to go. I want to enjoy my house again.

  6. Return lines on TV? Oh my!!
I live in The Netherlands and our gift event is at the beginning of december and targetted mainly to children.
Some grown ups go with the commercialisation of Christmas, but we can't anyway, and certainly not this winter.

You know weight lift training starts with lifting mugs of coffee, don't you? LOL!

    Have a nice week!!

    1. I think it's sensible to give gifts to the children, and early on! Adults never need much of anything anyway. Unless they are down and out, something that is entirely possible even in people who never dreamed they would be there....*Zippi Lifts her mug to Syl* Ah yes. I also heft mugs, knitting needles and books for a bit of exercise as well. Lol Thanks for the laugh!
