Saturday Nine: Justin Timberlake: “Mirrors”

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) Is there a mirror in the room you're in now?  Nope, there’s no mirror in here.

2) In this song, Justin Timberlake tells his lover he just can't wait till they're together. What are you eagerly looking forward to today?  I’m looking forward to getting more detritus out of my sewing and craft areas today and into young and loving hands..

3) Justin Timberlake is known as a sharp dresser who is always on trend. What item have you recently added to your wardrobe?  Nothing and it’s going to be that way for awhile. I need to sew myself some dresses.

4) Justin was an accomplished child performer who appeared on the entertainment competition show Star Search when he was just 11. When Crazy Sam was 11, her only job was loading and unloading the dishwasher, for which she received an allowance from her dad. Did you have chores when you were a kid?  I had a ton of chores.  I lived on a farm so those chores  were done  everyday; there is always something needing to be done on a farm.  Plus, I also helped Mother thoroughly clean our little house every weekend.

5) He says he tries never to miss breakfast, even on the road, and his favorite is peanut butter banana pancakes. Given the choice, do you prefer pancakes, french toast, or waffles? I’m really not a fan of pancakes unless they are very special  fluffy ones made with corn meal and served with sour cream and apple sauce.  I like waffles a lot,  but I’m crazy in love with French toast.  We never seem to have it anymore.  Darn!

6) When they were still in their teens, Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears were sweethearts. Obviously it's been easy for him to keep up with her successes and problems over the years. Do you wonder what one of your exes is up to?  Nope.  However, I always wonder about a boy I knew in high school and briefly met again in college.  He was really nice. He ended up playing for an NFL team back east but retired in southern California. I really liked him a lot but our circles didn’t overlap. I’ve always been a little crazy about redheads.

7) In 2013, when this song was popular, Pope Benedict resigned. Thinking of your working life, have you felt greater stress on your first day at a job, or your last?  First day on the telephone switch board was stressful.  But it was a fun job I wish I could have kept.

8) Also in 2013, the NHL owners reached an agreement with the players union and avoided a strike. Have you ever belonged to a union? No, but I sure as heck believe in them.  They gave workers a voice, and helped build the middle class. I’ve marched in picket lines and would do it all again.

9) Random question: When was one of the first times when you felt like an adult?  When I was 19, got a job that paid the rent, and was living in my sweet little studio apartment.  I finally felt my life was finally my own.

Thank you Sam! ❤️🙏🏼❤️

  1. I love all your answers, but especially your red-haired sweetheart and your defense of unions.

    1. That first Question had me reminiscing a lot. I sort of admired him from a distance but knew it was a silly schoolgirl semi-crush. We moved in different worlds.
The unions are absolutely one of the cornerstone solutions to Labor, Capital, Land set forth by Adam Smith. Business, when it gained the ascendancy, twice, never ever made the majority of the people in a country content. IMHO, if those three things are not balanced for the welfare of all, stagnation and starvation are it's two worst products.
Vulture Capitalism is proving to be the Death of Democracies. Look at Turkey. Look anywhere!

  2. I love that you are passing on your craft and sewing items to the younger set. Those are such valuable skills to have and I know those you are the receiving end must surely appreciate your gifts! Your redhead was an NFL player? Oh, do tell! Is he anyone we've heard of?

    1. I'm sure my girls will like to have some of my machines. I'm keeping the commercial one, and making room for it.
About that fellow...I'm certain you've heard of him. He didn't pay much attention to me but I still kept an eye on him. He's very tall, good natured, good looking, and hard to miss. He was a linebacker for Green Bay, and his son played for the same team. He also did a stint as a coach for the team. The last time I saw him was in the college we both went for a short time. And of course, he was redheaded. We were in the same class in HS.

  3. I believe in unions too. They have taken care of our medical needs so well. They also help to pay a living wage. We aren't rich or anything, but we do not struggle as much as we could.
#9. I had that moment where I worked and lived by myself. It was such a happy time. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend.

    1. Isn't that first taste of Freeeeedommmmm wonderful? Oh yes, unions made this country what it is today. Without them we would have had to live through the sort of poverty and deprivation we see all over the world. Hope you have a lovely week.

  5. I've been an active member or an officer in the union since I joined when I got my first teaching job. I was the chief negotiator when we (finally) were able to get a raise!

    1. Good for you! I am in AWE of you. ((((HUGS))))
Teachers would be living in ..well... rooming houses like old times if they had not organized and gotten a living wage (salary) commensurate to the years they have to spend in college paying outrageous fees for the honor of teaching our brats. lol *wink* I know we love kids a lot if we want to be teachers. I almost got to be one! Drat... I still regret not being a teacher.

  6. I believe in the power of unions, too, and wish they were stronger. We'd be better off if they were.

    1. You are absolutely right! And, sadly the unions have been under fire from "vulture capitalists for decades. I wish they hadn't been successfully weakened over the years by the ruthlessness that has been running roughshod over the workers - some of whom are deeply in debt trying to upgrade their skills.

  8. #5 When I make pancakes I add Cream of Wheat and oatmeal to add texture and make it multi-grain.
#6 I am at an age where I look for my former classmate and friends in the obituaries pages.
#8 Ditto, I was never a member of a union but I always supported them.

    1. Oh your pancakes sound lovely. I want to make those, too! They have to be much more tasty, like the ones we used to make with apple sauce and cornmeal in them.
I moved too far away from my HS to get Obits for classmates but it would be a good idea to just search them out some other way. There are a good half dozen that didn't make it back from Vietnam I reckon. That make me sad.
Ah, yes, the Unions... they built the middle class. They absolutely did.
