A couple of weeks ago, a Red Wolf female with pups was shot and killed.  We need to stop the apex predator, the human male, and of course Sarah Palin*,  because wolves are important in so many ways to a healthy ecosystem for all the other creatures that we presumably care about.  Once these wolves are gone, they are gone for good, they are gone, baby, gone.

As one poet put it, speaking of the Bengal Tiger - and I must paraphrase because the old brain cells don't remember who wrote it - that it will take a new heaven and a new earth before the likes of it's beauty will ever be seen again under the sun.


*  She also has a lot to say about how California can solve it's water problems, but that's not available for wide distribution for less than $99 a month.  Yes, she has a cable channel, so that you can never stop hearing her opinions.  Isn't technology great?

California: Vote No on Prop 1

At issue is how the proposed purchase of out of system water will be used, and for what purpose.  Proposition 1 on our ballot is not the sort of thing anyone wants to see on any State's ballot.  So anyone else in another state should watch anything to do with their own water issues.  Like other things, these sorts of ballot measures can have a, forgive the pun, a ripple effect.  We all know what that lead to in the last decade.  This is America.  I think we've done enough bending over.

Our state's water is used to a great degree by agriculture, and this is fine, but there are other issues here, the fact that once water goes to streams and rivers it is classified as "abandoned" and can be recaptured by agri-business, a nightmare conglomeration that has given rise to many problems in food production, and that is busily grabbing up small farms as well as water mandated for the survival of native habitat.

Those Mayans are spooky little people. heehee. Just kidding.  They are actually amazing.  So amazing!

The aggressive can try to annihilate them but the Mayans never give up.  It's a good thing, too!  We are all richer for their having survived so many waves of invaders, with their stories, intact, of what is real and what is not.  It also helps archaeologists to piece together the migrations described by the Hopi, for instance.

The Hero Twins are also in the Navajo traditions but much later.  This isn't so surprising as Native Americans moved freely around North America even after the borders were established by Americans.  I think of  The Book of Hopi also, where their migrations are described, since the Mayan cities were abandoned no one knows when.  The Hopi verbal traditions also contain Hero Twins.  See Mayan and Hopi Hero Twins

I hope that someone keeps doing DNA studies of all the tribes, too, as well as linguistic studies.  If I were young.....

There's no good news today, I regret to say, but plenty of controversy!

Are we all just running around a Holodeck?

I spent the last half of Saturday watching "Breaking the Maya Code", a wonderful documentary based on the book of the same name, and which naturally led me to watch "Afterlife", where a couple of doctors who wanted to ride some sort of ego wave congratulated themselves in being "scientific" and "pioneers" of research into near death experiences, so called NDE.

Of course they were not, as that honor belongs to Elisabeth Kupler-Ross, and she's dead and can't defend herself.  So she garnered no a single word of praise from the duo, though they really should have at least given her a nod while plugging all their books.  And, what about Edgar Cayce, who also studied Near Death Experiences clear back in the late 30's?  But, then, Kubler-Ross was a psychiatrist and Cayce a lowly Psychic.  Additionally, if the NDE really does help you get over the lust for fame and money, the makers of the film should have shown that they actually Got it!  What I've learned in a life time of study is that such an experience truly does change you.

I now believe, more than every before, that it's best to forgive it all..  All of it.  We've been paying each other back for hundreds of thousands of years, and it doesn't look like it's going to change anytime soon.  And, as we all well know, Payback is a Bitch.

So, What's the Good News for Sunday?  Let's try that thing, "Pay it forward"!  Let's be nice to strangers because in this way some have "entertained Angels unawares". 

PS.  About Guatemala, where most of the Mayans in the above film live.  Howard Hunt - see the Rolling Stone Article HERE - was once quoted as saying, "We wanted to terrorize the country", when describing what was done.  That's when Father Bill Wood's plane was blown up in mid- air, I imagine.  I remember when that happened.

And no, I'm not showing off, I am a little p*ssed off.  I want to find that software for the Mayan Glyphs and can't find a site that isn't connected with astrology.  Who cares about that?

Let's see, Good News... Well, the testimonials in the movie are good and honest ones.  It's still worth watching.  I'm still not sure it isn't something from the Christian Right, so be warned.

Don't forgot to look up if you hear something coming your way from Space!  They are coming for us, maybe.  I mean I hope they are...

Just What Were They Thinking?


In the local rag today there was a story about the OWS in San Diego. The police used some mace but I presume they did so judiciously, but I can find out. They evicted all the Occupiers but did allow a tent to stand on the grounds as a symbolic gesture, which only seems fitting because everyone here is not Republican operative.

UPDATE of the Doggie, dear:

Wolfie went to his own vet today, and she got to see him as she was leaving. So he saw another marvelous vet for the actual exam. This vet, who got licks on the lips for her trouble, pronounced him "recovering well", and "One Very Lucky Dog"! DH told one of the people in reception that we should call him "Lucky" from now on. He's such a sweet boy. He wants to kiss all the grrrls. Well, anyone with lips. He thinks it's his subordinate dogly duty, I guess. Lol

What a stressful day Thursday ended up to be. Believe me, barring earthquake turmoil, and truly unforeseen circumstances, this won't happen again. All this extra daring do and skuffuffle, has put me behind the times in what I wanted to make for friends. But I will have a lot of time after mid month to work with my beads, and maybe my brain will co-operate with me, too!

Well, I should have read THAT one earlier.  I see about three a week, and evidently saw THIS one way too late to take advantage of it.

Roll on, Saturday!  There's always tomorrow! 

My hair is now presentable.  Even I am happy with it.  The sock has two more rows and we watched a beautiful Film (cartoon) called,  "The Book of Kells".   Magical, and visually stunning.  Loved it!  It's for kids, to be honest.  And then we started watching,"In the Name of the Rose", with Shawn Connery.   Now, that one is definitely NOT for kids!
