As you know, we've had more than a full plate in the form of Wildfire this week. So there are a lot of fire pictures up for our County.
This bit of beauty is an Oriental Lily which was grown in Carlsbad, a little city that escaped the firestorm because of the efforts of hundreds of firefighters, animal rescue volunteers, orderly evacuations and top notch police and sheriff's work. They all worked hard everywhere the several fires raced, and saved lives and homes and countless animals as well.
*Insert Huge Heartfelt Standing Ovation.*
Hopefully this will be all behind us in a few more weeks and recovery can begin.
I am glad that you are doing Ok in the fires. I was worried about you!
ReplyDeleteThanks Vicki!
ReplyDeleteHuge fires less than four years apart are going to take a toll, emotionally, on people here. Thanks for thinking of us. I'll post again soon. Flu shots and a Dr app't. got to dash now DH says.......
Just sending you hugs and my best wishes during these scary times.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sarah-Hope. I'm so relieved this is nearly over and people can patch their lives up.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I wonder how huge these fires used to be in prehistoric time. Palamar mountain had not burned in recorded history.
Glad to know you are OK Zippi and glad to see the how well the police and fire depts. worked together this time.
ReplyDeleteI just can't understand why FEMA felt they had to "fake" their news conference (or whatever it's called)...when they actually got most of it right (this time)???
You have been in my thoughts and prayers. The thought of fire scares the daylights out of me. I won't even grill because of the dry around here. Nature is awesome and occational scary, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteHow did your sister make out? Is she doing OK?
Thanks Trish. :) This is the first really normal day here. The sky was filled with a mix of clouds and smoke but this am, only clouds. I don't get FEMA at all, frankly. I hadn't known they faked a news conference, but I did know that their spokesmen were in on updates, here, about the air tankers, etc. Duncan Hunter stuck his foot in his mouth, but, really, that's not news. heehee Mostly it was our own city and county officials who were carrying out the evacuations, with our sheriffs and police getting everyone moving. Our firefighters and CalFire organized the fire fight. Local city firefighters,he military, and CalFire have been working out a co-operative plan since 2003.
ReplyDeleteThanks Meribeth, I'm grateful.. San Diego County is grateful. TBH, we've had it up to "here" with disastrous fires so closely spaced. We aren't even Malibu, where you expect so much trouble. There isn't the mobility problems here. If there were, there would be more trouble.
Thanks for asking, my sister didn't have to evacuate this year, and that was very good. She was so tired when we went to see her because she could not sleep nearly at all. She worries about 6 times harder than a person not struggling with Parkinson's. Your stress levels are all cranked up high with that thing going on inside.
