Hello from the war front, Termite War II
We found termites in a header above the laundry room door. They came out and greeted us, flounting their defenses. So, we captured one of their soldiers (with tweezers) to know what army we are fighting. I reached up and captured one of the heavily armored warriors and dragged him to his death.
Our first line of defense is Windex, recommended by a five star general (*****) in the Headquarters of the Office of Habitat Defense. We have to seal up the holes, after spraying Windex in them, with tape. Duct Tape? As you can imagine, I didn't get to sleep until 5 am last night, so slept in sometime around noon today.
Last night all I could think of was, "Freaking Hellacious Abominations! Not again!"
*Toss, Turn...Itch*
Of course I itched all over because that's what bugs in the walls can do to you. They make you twitchy and shell shocked as you know you are fighting the species that will have the very last word with any wooden house! Then you silently scream something brave- and silly- like, "NOT ON MY WATCH!", and fret yourself into hyper alert insomnia. Also, it's impossible to sleep as you see all your dollars for yarn grow wings and fly out the windows. The new expensive windows, no less.
Knitting content: I will have a close up of a green sweater cable beginnings( gah, was that a moth? Now there's another species that will long outlive any woolen except the ones we poison!) which I've been working on. This is to prove that I can actually sit and knit, or could before we went to war, for about an hour a day.
Cheers! Hell hath no fury for Boadicea. Bring on the Armies of Rome! *puts on battle paint and mousses out her hair to look fierce*
LOL! That's exactly how I get when uninvited guests invade my house! Good luck getting rid of the critters.
ReplyDeleteVicki, I missed your message, and I know that is so, so bad! I'm sorry!
DeleteHope all is well with you and you are happily creating new and lovely fabrics!
I had to have my house treated for termites before I sold it...there was no active colony, but evidence one had been there. Just thinking about that stuff makes my skin itch! Good luck getting rid of them.
ReplyDeleteI totally missed this, Rissa! But, if you get a note from Google, I want to congratulate you on your new job! Sweet!
Deleteaccckkkk Termites!!! go away for a week and have someone nuke the house!!!
ReplyDeleteNo mercy for termites!!!
Hi Vicki, thanks for wishing us good luck. DH stood on a step ladder and vacuumed out the cavities after he "windexed" the heck out of those bugs. I'll bet each and every one of them was sparkling and shiney bright! We sealed the holes with scotch tape so that the light would go through. don't ask me why, it just seemed important in some way. ;o)
ReplyDeleteRissa, I don't want to go through another tenting since it's actually been only 7 years. The company that did the tenting is probably who DH called to get the Windex fix. Thanks for your good luck wishes.
Rho, I agree, Show No Mercy!! Nuke the Heck out of them!
I still am twitching and itching from dealing with them yesterday. I think we have a "tear out" in our future. DH likes "tear outs". Just not as good at the rebuilding-- oops he read this I'm dead. hehe We can actually just go away. Sometimes I wish we could go far far away for a long, long time. Let them eat it all! But the quilting and yarn stash... How could anyone leave a fabric/yarn stashes to fend for themselves?
Termites? YIKES!!
ReplyDeleteOne of my mom's friends had an infestation a few years ago and it was an absolute nightmare. Hope you can get rid of them quick and painless.
Hi Marj, thanks, and I feel for your friend. These things do a lot of damage before you find them. Hiding is their best skill next to eating houses.
ReplyDeleteSo far we tented for the ones that flit, through the air, five years ago. Now, of course, these came up out of the ground - like a miasma?
Ew, something new! Anyway, Friday we get the damage control estimate. We probably have to rebuild something, too, like the door frame, header or walls. We'll see.
