Jewelry cleaning solution.

I make my own solution for cleaning jewelry and it's what the faceters and the Gemological Society used. There are lots of things on the web but this is the one that they used.

You can put this into a used butter (or similar) tub but remember to keep it labeled and out of the reach of children or the pets.

Into the tub put 1 cup of water.

Add this to the water:

1 teaspoon of household ammonia
1 teaspoon of rubbing alcohol
And a couple of drops of Dawn hand dish washing detergent. Dawn is best but use what you have. Mix and use.

This is not for all stones or metals, but it's safe for both silver or gold, and hard non-porous stones like faceted quartz, tourmaline, diamonds, etc. The hard stuff.

This is not for "soft stones" like turquoise, malachite, opals, or non agate or non chalcedony semi precious materials.

You use this by soaking the piece for a little bit, and scrubbing gently with a soft brush, a little acrylic painting brush from Michaels will do ya. This is the time that the GS liked to look for loose stones and warn people about getting them tightened down by a jeweler.

We did Gem ID and cleaning at the County Fair, some Gem Shows, and Club shows. It was a lot of fun.
