Unplugged? Me? Saturday9

Vacation

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Readers,  you can join in this fun MEME by clicking on the 9ers button in the side bar.  Come on in!

Vacation (1982)

Unfamiliar with this week's song? Hear it HERE.

1) Do you know how to water ski? Yes. I am glad I had the chance to learn.  It's about the most fun you can have out there on top of the water, though para-sailing or wind surfing are newer sports and look like great fun.

2) Do you have 2014 vacation plans?
Nope, we live where a lot of people come to vacation.   I like that except if I want to spend a day on Sunset Cliffs or something.  Ocean Beach and my favorite bead store are down there, so I can go look at beads at the same time.

3) Do you have a passport?
No, but we want to go to Canada so I may have to get one so that we can get back into the US.  I can remember something about that but maybe things have changed back.

4) If you took a 7-night cruise, could you completely unplug -- no phone calls, no texts, no internet?
No, because I'd rather be sailing in an ocean going sailboat rather than cruising- those things are too big, noisy and smelly for me.  Anyway, out there in a sailboat, you can unplug except for Sat-phones.  No sailor going more than a few miles of shore should have a Sat-phone.

EDIT to say:  No sailor going more than a few miles off shore should be WITHOUT a Sat-phone.  They have saved the day many a time.

5) Do you own a travel alarm clock?
Yes.  I use it at home, too.  It's little and doesn't glare in my face at night nor does it BLAST me out of bed.  This little baby has a discrete little "deet deet" sound.

6) Though the Go-Gos broke up in 1985, they frequently reunite for live performances. What's the last concert you attended?
Neil Diamond, and he was in good voice.

7) Their first hit was "Our Lips Are Sealed."  Can you be trusted with a secret?
I must have been born to keep secrets.

8) In 1982, when this song was popular, the comedy Tootsie was in theaters. What movie makes you laugh?
"Brother Where Art Thou", "Moon over Parador", "Cold Comfort Farm", "Clueless", "The Men Who Stare at Goats", "Miss Congeniality", "Sister Act I and II","Burn After Reading", "Reds", "Doc Hollywood" and literally shed load of others.  Laughter is the best Medicine!
9) Sam is chewing on a Tums as she composes these questions. What's the last over-the-counter medication that you took?
My allergy medicine last night.

  1. I went to a Neil Diamond concert back in the early 1990s, I guess it was, and really enjoyed it. I am glad you were able to think of some funny movies; I could only think of one!

    1. Isn't Neal Diamond a great showman? I think of him and Billy Joel as two of the best. About Funny movies: they kept me from going around the bend at certain times of life. I did a hard ten years once, and not in any prison, so I highly recommend comedies to anyone who needs deep and healthy diversion.

  2. Now that spring has finally come to MO, I have added claritan to my daily dose. I have been sniffling this past week.

    1. Oh boy, those little pollen producers can really wreck a picnic or even life indoors, and are almost worse than ants. I'm sorry you are in Spring, and having the same fun as we have in California, where the natives sleep during winter but the alien big and little Australian plants come to life!

  3. I live where a lot of people come on vacation, too. Chicago's top tourist attractions are Navy Pier and Willis Tower, and I never go to either one. Maybe I should do my city the way tourists do.

    1. Remember those Staycations that were encouraged during the sky high gas prices? Actually they are nearly as high this year and there is a not less aggro over it. Yes, I think you should try seeing your lovely city in the off season, if you have one. Chicago is a pretty place. The lake front in the city must be especially pretty, I mean the non- industrial parts. We have waterfronts along the bay, and also shipyards. ewwww hehehe

  4. I got my passport so I could go into Canada (since I live right on the border and wanted to go yarn shopping). Which is a long way of saying, yes, you need a passport to get into that country. ;-)

    1. I thought so, Kwizgiver, but wasn't entirely sure since being dingy is part of the apre op melange. Needing one for Canada re-entry is amazing isn't it? And it's sad. Oh well, things change in more ways that we can ever imagine. A passport to get back into the US is truly kookoo. I envy that you can get yarns in Canada. *jealously waves knitting needles in the air*

  5. I grew up with Neil Diamond warbling away in the kitchen - not in person sadly - but on a tape recorder belonging to my mum. One of the old classic's is Neil!

.....and you're spot on about laughter...!

    1. Neal is Wonderful. He can still put me in a better mood when I listen to him sing. I love both he and Billy Joel, and some of the old farts, like Perry Como and sometimes Frank Sinatra but I know a little bit too much about Frank. lol

  6. I was wondering if Neil Diamond still did concerts.

    1. He no longer does concerts according to some things that I've read. He's in a lot of pain from partial paralysis in his legs and back. He's on year older than I am. I would guess that his voice has finally gone. Beverly Sills quit singing when she was in her 60's and she had a powerful voice, like his. It's late and I am RAMBLING! lol

  7. I too have a gentle little 'deet deet' sounding alarm, otherwise it'd be in danger of being thrown off the wall! I'm not quite a happy morning person. lol

    1. Ho ho! I totally understand that feeling! That's why this clock has lasted so long. There is nothing quite like it out there, though you have one. Hmmm? Mine is a Seiko. It wasn't expensive but it is at least 35 years old. They know how to make clocks!

I’m going through some stuff but I will peek in now and then and will be back when it’s over..
