Saturday 9: Thinking Out Loud (2014)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.1) This week's featured artist, Ed Sheeran, was discovered by Elton John. Tell us your favorite Elton John song. "Rocketman" but that's only by a hair. Generally I love everything he ever did.
2) Ed's arms are covered in tattoos, so clearly he doesn't suffer from trypanophobia, or the fear of needles. Do you get nervous when the doctor gives you a shot? No, not anymore. But when I was a little kid, it was terrifying to get a shot. By the time it came to have the first polio shots, only the fear of that horrible disease got me through that set of shots. When my own children were getting shots I was so unhappy for them, poor little babies.
3) One of his tattoos depicts a Heinz Tomato Ketchup label. What condiments are in your kitchen right now? About three different kinds of mustard and several hot salsas of various manufacturers. No ketchup at all.
4) Spotify named Sheeran the most-streamed artist in the world for 2014. Do you use Spotify? Pandora? No, but I have an old nano. I like that tiny beast. Wish they hadn't stopped supporting it. I've never heard of Spotify but used Pandora for a little bit. Life is so noisy that I prefer the Quiet now.
5) Ed celebrated his success by purchasing a farm near Suffolk, England. Would you prefer to live in a rural, suburban or urban area? I want to be in rural Central Coast. Farm life suits me.
6) In this song, Ed sings about kissing "under the light of one thousand stars." Were you able to see the stars last night? Or was it it too cloudy or overcast? Living in a big city is not conducive to seeing many stars. And a city by the ocean is even worse for stars but at least there is the Eternal Ocean to make up for it.

7) Ed is a natural red head, a trait he shares with only about 2% of the population. Does red hair run in your family? Oh yes....Big Time! DH's family is ALL redheads, and I have tons of redheaded relatives.
8) One of Clairol's most popular shades is a red (Nice 'n Easy Natural Light Auburn). Have you/would you dye your hair? I have black hair, or let's say, "had". Once I dyed my salt and pepper hair - I was about 55 at the time - and got loads of compliments from people who knew me. But it grew out so fast I couldn't face the hassle and smell of the process. It's still salt and pepper but a lot more salt now. heehee Auburn... hmmmm... Nope don't tempt me! It seems that everyone I know over 65 has that color hair!
9) Random question: Look at the windows in the room you're in. Are they covered in curtains or blinds? Blinds- levolor type blinds with a top dressing. I still like to sew drapes and curtains so other rooms have or had them. We are repairing some window surrounds and it takes years to do things now it seems. I'm very tired. lol

Rural and by a coast would totally make me happy too. I do not have ketchup in my kitchen either.

Then I'll wish you close to a rural coast in a space that's got enough beautiful vistas, and that has room for you to have a BIG fenced yard for all the dogs and is close enough, but not too close, to the vet and anything else you find you need. :-) That's a long darn sentence!
ReplyDeleteMy mother, who died at the age of 56, dyed her beautiful black hair an auburn color I guess when she hit 50. I never understood why; I hated the change. I never think of her with that hair color, just the black that I knew when I was young.
ReplyDeleteOh, sweet friend. I'm sorry. Maybe the color made your mother feel better about something? My mom was towheaded as a small child but since their hair sometimes turns brown later, I just remember it being brown, and then steel gray. Hair, and the care of it, is one of the most important things to women, I think.
DeleteI have to laugh "About three different kinds of mustard" it sounds like our cottage, everyone must have their own brand of mustard. I got yelled at one year for buying a store brand mustard.
ReplyDeleteMustard has it's Countries, uses and traditions. lol. We have Dijon, great old German with mashed up seeds, and the ever popular Neon Yellow and very American Kraft!. Ooooo, getting yelled at is serious! I hope you yelled back! The very idea. Ha!

ReplyDeleteI think you may be very wise to let your hair go. As we get older, that artificial looking, drastic dark hair doesn't make a statement (like eggplant highlights do on the young). It just makes us look like we're hiding something. So good for you!
Thank you, Sam. I'm struggling to remember little Majik before she was so, well, so flat. But, having held her and looked into those wise and tiny brown eyes calmly gazing back at me, I can remember happier times and truly hope she gets to come back has something non-edible and very treasured by the world.
DeleteYou are right. I'm going to let my hair go it's slow and elegant way fully into gray. I gave up dyeing it because my arms and hands are not as agile as before, and I didn't like the smell of the chemicals.
