Saturday 9

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

It's Saturday 9 time!  Thank you Sam!

Over yonder is the Button to Sam's blog if you want to join this fun Saturday Meme!

Saturday 9: Careless Whisper (1984)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) You can't miss George Michael's gold hoops in the photo above or in the "Careless Whisper" video. Are you wearing any jewelry right now?
A. I'm stripped of jewelry for the night.  It's hard to sleep on earrings. :o)

2) Though the label says this hit is performed by "Wham! featuring George Michael," George Michael is the only member of the pop duo who appears in the video. Do you remember the name of the other guy who was in Wham?
A. Frankly, I've never heard of George Michael.  I'll go listen to the song now. :-)  Or not. OvO

3) Much of the video was filmed on Watson Island, a man-made island near South Beach. Have you ever been to Miami?
A.  I have never had the pleasure.  Sometimes I think about how nice it would be to be able to swim in an actually warm ocean!

4) Born Georgios Panayiotou, George Michael is of Greek descent, the son of the Greek restauranteur in East London. When you think of Greek cuisine, what comes to mind?
A.  "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" and a bundt cake.  Actually, what really comes to mind is Sammie's pita bread.  He and his wife, both Lebanese Americans, used to have a little shop near State U, and they made the most delicious pita bread, as fresh as it comes, and other Middle Eastern foods.  When I think of Greek food, middle eastern food comes to mind.

5) Today he lives in a tony suburb called Highgate, and his neighbors are Kate Moss and Sting. Tell us about one of your neighbors.
A. This small slice of a city neighborhood is turning into a little United Nations.  It is less so than our first neighborhood, which I loved,  but I like that it's changing around here.

6) George Michael fans can purchase officially licensed merchandise from his website, including an iPhone cover with his photo and signature. Tell us about your cell phone. Is it Apple or Android? Is it a smartphone?
A. Not telling...  but I got it a pink Gator case.  I'm the Android.

7) George Michael sang Stevie Wonder's "You and I" for Prince William's wedding to Kate Middleton. What's your favorite love song?
A. I know that I've answered a similar question before, but my favorites shift around like the wind.  I like, at the moment, "Just an Old Fashioned Love Song".  You can here it HERE from the original group, Three Dog Night.

or watch it... Muppet Show, and the songwriter, Paul Williams.  hehe Funness!

8) In 2014, George had a health scare. He was rushed to the hospital for tests and released the next day. Have you ever ridden in an ambulance?
A. More times than I care to remember.  Others have it lots worse though.  I can't even think about that anymore.  We live on the sort of Geology that runs right through Kathmandu.  Lord, what a mess.

9) Known for hard partying in his youth, George is now in his 50s and says he's quite happy to spend his evenings eating takeout and watching DVDs. Are you doing any socializing this weekend?
A. We live a quiet life. George's evenings sound just about perfect to me.

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!

  1. That's a good song choice. I love those older sounds. Can't get into the new music too much.

    1. Friends from back east came out one year and were shocked to learn that the ocean was freezing! We have a cold current ( California - the counterpart to the Humbolt of South America) running north along almost the whole length of the Pacific Coast, and you have that neat Gulf Stream. Mmmmm, warm waters!

    1. We are done partying. Causes relate to your work schedule, and to our ages. George Michael just must have gotten sick of partying!

    1. Hahahaha I am SO going to watch that movie again. I don't think Mama, or any of her family, had ever SEEN a "Buncacci" as she called it. What a scream that was!

    1. Me, too. Just Love them. And, Greek food is so yummy. I used to make all the mediterranean foods from my Syrian Cookbook. A lot of that area share those foods. And, yes, when the sweet Vietnamese neighbors moved in, I saw that we were heading for all the right things. It's great.

  8. It certainly is, Bev. I'm surprised that a song writer has such a good voice, too. Lots of times they don't!
