Saturday9: Sleigh Ride... You'll freeze your buns off Dear..

HERE is the Link to this Meme.  It's Funtastic, and please come give it a whorl!

Saturday 9: Sleigh Ride (1993)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) Have you ever ridden in a sleigh?
No.  Not even in Ohio when we'd go to visit our Grandparent's farm and stayed the winter, did we ride in a sleigh.  Grandpa didn't own a horse, so that's probably why.  He was a Master heavy equipment mechanic and owned a tractor.  Those can pull sleighs but it's a little smellier.  Diesel is terribly smelly.  Here's a snow cat pulling a sled-- in Greenland.  HTH.... hehe

2) This recording is from Harry Connick Jr's best-selling CD, When My Heart Finds Christmas. This year, did you add any new holiday songs to your personal collection?
No, as my collection is very large.  Humongous would be a good word to describe it.

3) Harry was born and raised in New Orleans, a city that seldom sees snow. Have you had enough snow to shovel so far this winter?
No, but our local area was very cold, for us, at the moment.  It might be nice to have some snow on the ground because it might actually be warmer!  We are supposed to get a week of rain this coming week.  I feel some dread and happiness at the same time.  Y'Know?

4) Speaking of weather, Harry hosted a mini-series on The Weather Channel called 100 Biggest Weather Moments. Do you frequently check The Weather Channel?
No, I have other ways of checking the weather and it's not full of Ads for all and sundry

5) Harry's mother was a very impressive woman -- a lawyer, judge and Louisiana Supreme Court justice. Tell us about someone in your family of whom you're very proud.
Certainly not anyone as illustrious as Harry's mother.  My grandfather was an amazing man.  He left home when his father died and his socialite mother remarried quickly there after.  He then worked his way up from Cabin Boy to Master Mechanic on Merchant Marine ships, and had been around the entire globe, twice, before he gave it all up to marry before the Great Depression.  He married someone that his own rich and snob-ridden family disapproved of, and his mother cut him off without a penny.  He was truly a self made man.

Welcome to the first Sat 9 of 2016

 6)  Happy New Year! Now that Christmas is over, are you done with holiday music and decorations? Or are you sad to see the holidays end?
I'm done with it.  And I'm only sad that the kids couldn't come this year.  I'm not sure that I'll do anything but celebrate Yule next year, from one end of it to the other.  I read about the Greenlanders, being staunch Christians, and also celebrating Yule, and thought, now there's a holiday for me!

This is all over the web and very nice..

7) The New Year's Eve fireworks celebration in Sydney, Australia is famous for coordinating pyrotechnics and music. Have you ever welcomed the New Year in another country?
No, but another Nation put on a show here!  The Sequan Indians put on a multi-million dollar New Year's Eve fireworks show at Seaport Village one year, and we went to see that.  It was spectacular!

8) Do you have any New Year's Resolutions for 2016?
I don't.  I only have the words to live by, and of course, am keeping the one that's been up on the blog for two years.  Breathing is very important.

9) Looking back on 2015, what surprised you?
I will say that I was surprised that Animal Rights started making some headway, and this isn't political in the least, no matter what some others say.
It is a matter of respecting the other Earthlings, and their Right to Life.
No one can predict where this will all go, since humans hold all the cards.
But humans are waking up to the fact that all things are connected and have rights!  Christians are starting to look back and see these things in their own scriptures.
I see this topic as of great importance, this Respect for Life with a capital L.

  2. LOVED reading about your grandpa! There's a book there, to be sure. And then maybe a Lifetime Movie. Can I represent you?

    1. Sure! But it would have to be a short book. I've waited too long to write it and have lost most of my sources.

  3. It was in the upper 60s here on Christmas Eve here, and we had the warmest December ever record. My furnace almost did't run at all.

    1. That is so strange. Ontario got its first deep snow just recently as well. The little Allen's hummingbird needs to go south but he's trying to winter over. We're finding more dead hummingbirds lately as it's just too cold for them overnight. Poor little things!

    1. Thanks back, Mimi! Happy Saturday! And yes, all things are connected. It's taken the western world far too long to figure it out, too. Sadly.

    1. Happy New Year, Kwizgiver! xo too.

Thanks for the encouragement, and it would make a good book, but it has no "flesh". I wish it were possible but all the relatives have gone "into the mystic", so to speak. I'm the last who really knew anyone very well.

    1. Happy New Year Harriet!
Animal rights initiatives have been winning some amazing victories in the face of stiff opposition. I feel a turning in the tide.

Grandpa was a wonderful guy. He was Smart, he sang and played the guitar, and he was a kind man, too. He was just the way you want a grandpa to be.
