Saturday9: Glenn Frey's, " The One You Love"

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Come play along!  It's fun!  Click HERE

Saturday 9: The One You Love (1982)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
In memory of Glenn Frey (1948-2016).

1) In this song, Glenn explores one of the great romantic conundrums. This week, Saturday 9 is confronting it, too. If you had to choose, would you prefer to be loved, or to be in love?
I'd choose to love, all told; it seems easier to handle emotionally.  It's sad that Glenn Frey has passed away.  He was a great song writer- musician.  Rest In Peace amazing person.

2) The song describes an awkward moment: an old boyfriend calls when a woman is on a date with someone new. To whom did you last say, "I can't talk now?"
My daughter, Gee, then I called her back after dinner.

3) The lyrics talk about heart vs head. When you find yourself in that predicament, which usually wins -- heart or head?
Creature in need?  Heart.  The  head just has learned to shut the frak up and stay out of the way.  The head wins if  it's merely a matter of opinion. Then Mr.Z. has a chance to reason with me.  Lol

4) This song was from Glenn Frey's solo album, No Fun Aloud. What fun stuff are you looking forward to this weekend?
We just got a tiny free box for music over the sound system for the TV and are setting it up to cycle all our favorites.  We'll be listening to that.

5) Glenn Frey was born in Royal Oak, a suburb of Detroit. The Motor City is known for car manufacturing. Is your car domestic or foreign?
One domestic, one foreign.  The ancient, wee truck still speaks Japanese.  He makes the Jeep, who has a crush on him, blush when he talks to her.

6) The popular 1990s sitcom Home Improvement was set in Royal Oak. Are you handy around the house?
Between DH and myself, we can fix anything around the house.  We just now prefer to let someone else do the plumbing..speaking of which....

7) Glenn Frey co-founded The Eagles in 1970. What's your favorite Eagles song?
"Smuggler's Blues" is my favorite Eagles song. But almost everything they recorded get's me all happy and feeling alive.

8) The Eagles helped define "California Rock," but in recent years Glenn and his wife lived in Tribeca. Have you ever been to New York? If so, did you like it?
I've never been there, state or the city.  I'm sure I wouldn't be able to stand the noise level in any city neighborhood like Tribeca.  But otherwise I might really like it but not to live.

9) Glenn wrote "Smuggler's Blues" and "You Belong to the City" for the iconic 1980s TV show, Miami Vice. What else comes to mind when you think of the 80s?
Most of the 80's were a blur to me.  I never want to see them again.

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!

  1. Glenn Frey would love your answer because "Smuggler's Blues" was his, solo, and not an Eagles song. I just watched a documentary about the band and he was very proud of his solo work.

    1. Like many band members, he didn't get to expand his wings much. I'm glad he got the chance to have his own music out there, here and there. Once you start in a band, the sound that sells takes over and not much experimental or radical riffs get any "Air space". Sadly..

  2. I need to have a plumber come over to repair a leak (it is on a basement faucet that I don't use), but I keep putting it off for mañana

    1. Ah ha! Next time you're down there, just look under the sink, and turn off the shut off valve that goes to the faucet, for now. The plumber can turn it back on whenever.. Hth, and I know all about that tomorrow thing. :-)

  3. I wish I was handier around the house--I mean, I can do basic things like light bulbs and batteries, screens and stuff like that.

    1. You're doing a lots more than you think, though. Basic maintenance keeps problems at bay. We two are handy because I was a carpenter for nearly ten years, and DH's worked in his dad's shop. His dad built and repaired small fishing boats and speedboats.

  4. You sure nailed that 80's question. The sad thing is that someone will bring it back for us to re-visit...

    1. They certainly will, won't they?! The rotters. hehehe I was raising 4 kids and cooking big dinners because we had three extra people in the family at that time, my sister, two teen strays who lost their homes-friends of the teens, and then the heart break in 89. I was blind sided for a decade. But I'm supposed to forget the 80's. Dang. *sticks electrodes five inches into head and plugs them into a wall socket*

  5. I kind of liked the 80s. I was still young. A little more of an idiot, but younger.

    1. See, you all are the ages of my own kids. * listens to joints creaking while trying to get comfy* It's good to be young and a little clueless. It is the charm of youth!

To tell the truth, I'm just that half dead salmon flipping around in the shallows of the creek bed. lol. You all are so much fun to know.

  6. I'm with Dew--formerly youthful and idiotic, but could wear the clothes! :-)

Zippi, your description of your cars made me giggle....

    1. I actually loved the big shoulder pads. They seem so, I don't know, suave? heehee

About cars, I'm charmed by old Japanese stories of little spirits which inhabit autos and other machines. Google can't find it, but I'll never forget the story of a Japanese Military officer who cussed his vehicle out loudly, while hitting it with his quirt because it wouldn't start.
