Saturday is Fleetwood Mac: "Don't Stop"

Don't Stop

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions
every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here is today's questions!

Saturday 9: Don't Stop (1977)... because Country Dew recommended Fleetwood Mac
Thank you, Country Dew.  It's a great Group!

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) Since we're not supposed to stop thinking about tomorrow, let's talk about it: What are your plans for Sunday?
I plan to stay home, stand/sit up straight, eat good things, do the laundry, and watch Netflix. No Gym, no dashing about.  Just PEACE!  I've had enough organized madness of any kind to last for the rest of my life.

2) Fleetwood Mac was formed 50 years ago in London. Fifty years is considered a "golden anniversary." Do you wear more silver or gold?
I like silver best and wear it almost exclusively.

3) This song is from Rumours, which has sold 40 million copies. Is it in your collection?
Oh ya.  I have almost everything Fleetwood Mac recorded.

4) It was written by keyboardist and vocalist Christine McVie. She was born Christine Perfect, a name that earned her a fair share of teasing when she was a school girl. Do you recall being teased in school? What about?

Hold onto your hats,Ladies. It's a mini rant!
Teased, no.  I got the usual brass plated bullying - I was beaten up in second grade by half of a class of 6 year olds because of my "race"??  If any of them missed hitting me, I didn't have time to take note.  I am Species: Human Being.  And I'm 8% Native American, and 92%, fracking WHITE European!
Plus there was the really heavy duty behind the scenes fragging from bigoted teachers and staff.  All teachers are NOT created equal and/or fair.  Los Angeles County School Districts used to be teeming with bigotry, and may still be.  Who knows? I think bigotry is the downfall of civilization. Sorry Gal, Meme's are not even a close second. 😉

Kids out there are still going through this..  Come ON America!  If you are too lazy or "MEH" to get your arse out there to vote, since 40% did not, think about doing it for the KIDS!

5) Before Fleetwood Mac, she was in a band called Chicken Shack. If you were to order out for a chicken dinner, which restaurant would you turn to?
I never eat chicken out.  Not any more.

6) Before she could pay all her bills with her music, she supported herself as a window dresser for a London department store. Do you enjoy walking along, just window shopping? Or do you consider "looking with no intention to buy" a waste of time?
Window shopping is fun for those who like it.  It's probably a great pleasure.  But for myself I'm extremely focused, and window shopping is time better spent doing something else.  My sister loved to window shop.

7) When she found herself making big money, one of the first things Christine bought was a pair of matching Mercedes for herself and then-husband, John McVie. If you were handed a check for $1 million, what's the first thing you would do with the money?
I would buy as big a house as possible, in or near Santa Cruz.  The the kids could live in it.  That would make me happiest right now.

8) The other girl in Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks, founded the Soldier's Angel Foundation. She believes in the healing power of music, and so she's proud to provide wounded soldiers with iPods already loaded with music. When you listen to music from your phone, MP3 player or iPod, do you use ear buds or headphones?
I listen with headphones or speakers.  My hearing is already fading and I don't want to push it over any cliff. I need new speakers for the nano.  Thanks for reminding me!

9) Random question: Let's pretend your high school reunion is coming up. Which classmate are you more curious about: the one who was your first date, or the one who was too cool to give you the time of day?
My first date didn't happen in high school.  But, the one I'm curious about is my friend Steve.  He wasn't headed for college, and I think of him a lot. The reason?  I am a war baby, and lived through the Vietnam war protests as a teen and young adult.  I detest a war culture for very good reasons.

So,anyway, I've only kept track of one other person from high school. Somehow, maybe because he was married, or was playing in the major leagues, he didn't go to Vietnam like almost all the other young male classmates.  A lot of both mine and Mr. Z.'s classmates did, and far too many of the ones who made it back were all messed up.
Anyway, the second part of your question: at my last high school, the cool ones were always nice to everyone!  I hope they are all doing well.

HERE's a link back to this week's page at Saturday 9. Come play?

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!

  1. I know so many people who have Native American blood in their background and nobody thinks a thing of it, that I'm stunned by the way you were treated over 8%. That's such a drop in the bucket. I hope times have changed because my youngest grandson is, 1/8 Seneca and once his father registers him, he will be a card-carrying member of the tribe.

    1. I'm actually a lot more than 8%, but it was my last name that caused the fuss. Much has changed but not enough. I no longer carry a french surname that looks "Mexican" though even Mexican is more a Nationality than an ethnic group, so I blame ignorance and bigotry. This all happened in the 50's and the 60's also. So things have changed. Being Native American is now fashionable, made so by the hippies, I think. At least it was made more main stream so you don't really need to worry about your grandchild. Being registered with a tribe has great financial benefits. I am not but I know it does.

    2. My grandson won't benefit financially from the tribe. He might qualify for loans and grants more easily if he goes to college, but the Seneca are a matriarchal society and the inheritance is passed through the women. My future son-in-law gets profit sharing checks because he is his mother's son, but his children will not get a share.

    3. I was saying that you have no reason to worry about him. And registration has benefits, which I see as a good thing. So don't worry because he will, and his father, have ties of blood that will stand him in good stead for all of his life. It is only proper, I think.

  2. I'm so sorry that happened to you. There's no excuse for the way the school handled it. What an ugly business you had to survive!

Are earbuds worse for your hearing? Another reason for me to eschew them!

    1. About ear buds, Gal. I do know they are worse for mine. I can wear head phones but not earbuds. I think it's too easy to ignore damage if it's so subtle.
What I went through was the brunt of LA's overt racism and bigotry. It's no longer overt but the covert can be so hidden and damaging, and it's still with us. Yes, it was an ugly business, and if the last election is any indicator, it's still alive and well in too many hearts, a lot of them over-privileged and haughty.

  3. Bullying and harassment is not something any student should have to put up with, the school administration is required by law to proved a safe and learning environment.
A couple of weeks ago I took part in a press conference on bullying and on Thursday I'm going to a symposium on discrimination and harassment.

    1. Thank you Diana! I will certainly follow that link! School systems, an this was a long time ago, have changed for the better. They still have not rooted out all the bigots but it's a LOT better than when I was in school! I'm glad for the kids who just really now DO come from everywhere. Now if we could just get it out of the minds and hearts of the population!

  4. I wish that I could say that people are over that bully mindset but, then there is our commander in chief.....

  5. Your plans for Sunday sound wonderful! Well, maybe not the laundry part. (Have fun, anyway!)

    And Happy Saturday!

  6. Your Sunday sounds great! I don't even mind laundry. :)

    I'm saddened by your experience.

    1. Me either, as there are just towels left. Well, and sheets. The little stuff drives me batty,😵
School got unbearable at times, but my one daughter had a terrible time, too. I don't hold out much hope for getting the bullies under control, not in view of how successful that behavior is. I know psychologists like to argue that cooperation is mostly how we succeed, but bullies belie that theory in my experience.

  7. I'm glad you explained more about what happened when you were a kid. It's horrible to experience that, and it's horrible that it is indeed still going on, now perhaps in more long-lastingly damaging ways. I will say that when my child was the one being picked on, I was in the faces of the school admin every-damn-day. And I still bear ill will towards those kids and (to some extent) their parents. And the principal. And the teacher. It's only been a decade. Maybe that will eventually fade. Even my son has let most of it go; also it seems to have made him a much more empathetic person overall.

ANYWAY. Enjoy your quiet Sunday. I'm doing laundry right now, but my Sunday should be similar to yours in most of the other ways.

    1. I hope you Sunday is lovely and that you get to enjoy the Peace of it. I think I'll go throw the towels in the washing machine NOW and be done with them!

  8. Hi Cat. Ah, Bigotry and Bullying, it's "alive and well and living right here in Virginia City"! Old quote.
There should be a place where the adults who have gone through this sinkhole in our system can problem solve and try to end it. I don't think those who have ignored it for Decades- School Systems administrators- should be allowed to set the bar, or the guidelines!
I'm sorry to hear about your experience and about your son's. More than anything else, the biggest job schools have, since the system wants total control over a child's life, from 4 years on to adulthood, is to properly socialize that child! Bring the bullies to task and make them change.

I wish I'd have known what our Laura was going through, the brass tacks of it. I would have ripped some parents a new one. I'd have sued the schools.
Like your son, who became more empathetic, I think it changed my girl who was gentle, and made her want to escape to the work world where she felt she was valued more. She once told me, after she worked for a summer just out of high school,"The minute I was earning my own money, I wanted, more than anything, to be doing that." The level of bullying, so that she felt like a freak, was so harsh it cost her her future.

  9. I'm sorry for your experiences. I hope things are better today but they probably aren't. I am glad you like Fleetwood Mac, too!

  10. They are getting better, CountryDew. However, I'm bitter about bigots and the well heeled "privileged classes" trying to run us off the road. I'm so sick of their smug and airy fairy ways.
But, I'm spending less time on the blog and more time on getting life in order. I'm really pissed at the Republican party. They have no heart and if this world goes down in flames, it will be their fault. They can take the blame with all their Christian bleating, and forcing Armageddon. There I got it all out there. They can sue me.
