Two weeks of Satuday 9,

Two Saturday 9's... First up is: The Stylistics..

You are getting the bare bones version from me this week...

Hear it HERE

1) As 2019 kicks off, what are your hopes for the brand new year?
To be honest, I hardly notice when a new year starts.  Generally speaking, I haven't noticed the New Year was any different than the last day of the year before.  My to-do lists from one year just get updated,  and then, all over again, I know that they still need to be done.

2) Just because an item isn't brand new doesn't mean it isn't valuable. Have you scored any fabulous finds at a second hand store or website?Nope, and it's probably because I never go shopping anymore.  Not even on line.

3) This song is sung by The Stylistics, a group from Philadelphia. Have you ever been to Philly?
Probably when I was too young to know it.

4) This song was co-written by Thom Bell, a Philadelphia-based musician/producer who was born in Kingston, Jamaica. The average daily temp in Kingston in January is 87º. Do you have plans to get away this winter and go somewhere warm?
No, and this is because I live in Winterless Southern California.

5) The Stylistics took their choreography very seriously. As you can see from the video, they even carefully synchronized their hand movements. Do you use your hands much when you talk?
Yes, I do.... I am a one half French, Spanish, and Native American, so this comes naturally to me.

6) The lyrics tell us that the singer is grateful for a friend who will walk with him along a path that "sometimes bends." Looking back on 2018, tell us about a time that life's path took a bend you didn't quite expect.
2018 was a relatively quiet year.  I'm grateful as heck for that.

7) In 1974, when this song was popular, Chicago's Sears Tower opened and was for years the world's tallest building. Its elevators can carry you to the 103rd floor in approximately a minute. When were you last on an elevator?
Yesterday, meaning the 10th.  I had a follow up meeting with the eye surgeon.  She's on the second floor but it's easier to just take the elevator.

8) Also in 1974, the 55 mph speed limit was imposed nationwide. When you drive, are you careful to stay within the speed limit? Or do you have a led foot?  California has a 65 mph limit.  I'm too old to speed now so I don't.

9) Random question -- It's time to pose for your Saturday 9 yearbook picture. Will you show us your right profile, your left profile, or will you look directly into the camera?
Never gave it much thought.  Let's see.  Straight I think.

Saturday 9: I Forgot to Remember to Forget (1955)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

In honor of Elvis' birthday (January 8.)

1) Elvis sings that he thinks about this girl all the time. What person or topic is on your mind this Saturday?  Anyone want to venture a Guess?  A clue:  His name rhymes with Humpty Dumpty....

2) He wants to forget the day he met his girl, but simply can't. Think about someone very important in your life. Did you know right away that they were going to be influential?  I knew right away.  I just knew... Angels told me. Lol...

Since this week's song is about memories, let's check on how well you recall events in your own life.

3) What was the first concert you ever attended?
In High School.  It's not very exciting but....I attended a concert given by the Redlands University Symphony Orchestra.

4) Where did you get your first piercing? (Not only where on your body, but who did the deed and where did they do it?)

My Aunt Jo pierced my ears when I was sixteen, and did it in her kitchen.

5) What's the name of the bank where you had your first checking account?

I opened an account at the Credit Union where I worked.  So, no bank..

6) Tell us about your first bicycle.

I  rode a home-built bike in Ohio that was my aunt's.  It consisted of a frame, handlebars, pedals, brake, and two wheels.  I learned to ride on it, and then had to beg to be let ride it on the long curved driveway behind the farm house, because I couldn't reach the seat.  My second bike, when I was seven was exactly like it.  Poor kids, and kids who grew up in the war years, were lucky to have any sort of bike.  We had a grand old time with our 'cruisers' as they are now called.

7) Who received the first text you ever sent?
My hubby.

8) What had you been drinking when you suffered your first hangover?
I've only had one hang over, and it was from beer, when I was in my twenties, out at the Colorado river with family and friends.  I hated the feeling, and it never happened again.

9) Whose was the first wedding you ever attended?

My own.  And yes, what planet did I grow up on!?  That is a very valid question!

You all have a lovely weekend.  Go HERE  to see other peeps answers and join in if you want....

  1. I love the image of you riding your bike on the farm. Today's kids miss out on that exhilarating freedom a bike gave you. Enjoy your winterless day...the rest of us will be wintering for you!

    1. Yes kids today really do miss out. They have to be raised practically in a bubble, because it seems so many totally random people are a danger to them.
Thanks, I will enjoy the weather, and I hope you aren't too impacted by the storm but it seems huge, big, and very dangerous. Take care and safe travels.

  2. I loved my "cruiser" bike, too! It was my motorcycle, my horse, my flying carpet. With time I got a more sophisticated bike, but I don't know that I enjoyed it any more.

    1. Hi Gal! Those old cruisers were the best of things. I could ride mine to elementary and jr. high, and in a pinch, to high school. No one would steal it; it was a wreck. lol
Later on, I did like having a ten speed, but that was when I was fully adult. The magic, at that age, came from riding bikes with Mr.Z, and our two older girls.

  3. I rode my bike all of the time when I was a kid. I just loved it. I rarely see kids out on their bikes anymore. I see kids in P.E. classes now and they are not in shape because they play video games all of the time.
I hate the feeling of a hangover too. I only really drank in college. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend.

    1. I did too, Lori.... but, the Times have changed, and they didn't change for the better, sadly. We used to have the freedom to play out under the street lights 'til well after dark. No parent in their right mind would be able to comfortably allow their kids to do that anymore.

I still like wine and will have a glass to celebrate a birthday or something, but not the hard stuff anymore. I'm glad it doesn't call out to me because I have seen how hard it is to break away from it when it's a person's only solace. Hope you have a lovely week, and it isn't super cold and nasty.

  5. We are wintering a lot here in VA, with the snow falling. I keep stepping out on the covered porch to listen to the silence. There is no quiet like a snow quiet. I am glad to see you, Zippi.

    1. Hi my friend. Yes, the gently falling snow doesn't pelt the roof but just falls quietly. I'm needing this silence more and more. Needing to fly away and make a new home in the desert. ;o)
Hope that the snow storm over there where you are doesn't turn into a howling blizzard. But that's a plains thing, isn't it? Thanks, I'm glad to be back. I'll try to do these every week. Retraining a thumb takes time and practice!

  6. Your ear piercing story reminds me of when I was in college and the trend was to diy second ear piercing. One of my holes is still open now tool

    1. Aww. It's time to get that other one open! I have three holes in each ear, but I've a feeling some of them have closed back up. I now only wear one pair of earrings because of misplacing all the studs I used to wear. Time to make more but the thumb will take umbrage, as it does not think it will allow a mere human whim to disturb it's swollen beauty... such an ungrateful wretch. I've hauled it around all these years and schooled it in many arts, and even MORE than the dread middle finger has enjoyed, but enough.. Time for a cocktail..or not.... 🥂
