Saturday 9 Do you know where your popcorn is?

Still maneuvering the NEW Blogger.  Doing my best and I've been *cough cough* been sick for awhile.  Please pass the PROZAC!
Thanks to the lovely Gal for this great Meme... πŸ’‹πŸ’‹πŸ’‹πŸ’‹

 Saturday 9: Buttered Popcorn (1961)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This Saturday, the treat's on Sam. Will you have buttered popcorn, caramel corn or cheese popcorn?

Cheese Please!

2) This record represents the Supremes as they are seldom heard. Florence Ballard is singing lead, with background vocals provided by Mary Wilson, Barbara Martin and Diane Ross. That's right, "Diane." Her parents meant for her to be named "Diane," and that's what old friends and family still call her, but the hospital mistakenly put her name down as "Diana." Motown execs thought "Diana Ross" had a better sound and the rest, as they say, is history. Do you often make typos? Or are you careful and precise at the keyboard? I'm careful and precise.  I still make an occasional typo on the keyboard typing, but on a regular typewriter, I just freeze up and have to give in to hunt and peck.  It was taking typing in High School that did me in.  Fear, they call it.

3) Barbara Martin left the Supremes in 1962, before they reached stardom, because she was a new mom and wanted to stay home with her baby. Have you ever found yourself in the difficult position of having to choose between your personal and professional lives?  Several times.  I just figured the last time that God Himself had made the "choice" for me, and having a career as a teacher or as a Professor of Geology was not on the cards for me.

4) Florence Ballard's cousin, Hank, wrote the famous Chubby Checkers dance record, "The Twist." When did you last get on your feet and dance?  A couple of years ago.  At least. There will, sadly, be NO MORE dancing in the kitchen.  I'd be sent to a home if I break another one of these decrepit bones.

5) Mary Wilson stayed with the group until it disbanded in 1977. She has said that one of her most memorable moments came in 1968, when the group performed for Princess Margaret. Mary recalled that the Princess loudly asked if Mary's hair was real or a wig. Mary was shocked, expecting better behavior from a royal. Tell us a time when someone's behavior shocked you.   I have sworn off politics. πŸ˜‡   Well, in HERE anyway.  Other social media... heh heh.. different story. I like this fake news myself. Your wonderful POTUS, doing what he does best......

6) In 1961, when this song was released, the TV show Hazel premiered and was a top 5 hit for NBC. Oscar winner Shirley Booth played the title character, a very capable and lovable maid. If Crazy Sam could have a maid for just a few hours today, she'd love to have her refrigerator cleaned and kitchen cabinets organized. If you could have a pair of helping hands around your house this afternoon, what would you ask the maid to do?  I'd want her to Dust and Vacuum EVERYthing. Please!  I can do the mopping but can't handle the vacuuming.

7) Also in 1961, President John F. Kennedy appeared on the cover of Time as their Man of the Year. Are there any magazines in your home right now? If so, who is on the cover?  Funnily, I just cleared a literal TON of magazines yesterday.  And the ones I saved had a Bird on the cover.  So, the who would be an Egret.

8) Ernest Hemingway died in 1961. Have you read any of his works?  I've read just about all his essays and his short stories and books.  I hated Old Man and the Sea. but liked his other writings. Especially the ones from when he was living in France and Spain.

9) Random question: How many pancakes are in the perfect stack?  Three if they are thick.  Five if they are thin. Yummm!  I want some pancakes for dinner now.  See what you've done? lol

  1. Welcome back to Saturday 9. You know, I'm still using the old blogger and have received no agita from the blogger police yet.

    Isn't dusting just the worst?

    1. Thanks, Gal. It’s good to be back. The blogger police, I hope, know there is a big problem with videos and hopefully will soon solve it!
And, Oh yes, dusting is pretty bad, and especially if you are allergic to dust. Achoo!

    1. Thanks Lori, I'm feeling better now that I've given over the harpy role. Madame DeFarge... heehee
I hope you are enjoying the weekend as well. And that it's cooling off where you are.
I hear ya about dusting. Dusting makes me sneeze. The new cloths make it better, but only marginally.

  3. I don't call it "hunt & peck" anymore, instead I call it the "Christopher Columbus method of typing, discover it and land on it."

    1. I love your thinking! That's hilarious.
All you need to know is the placement and "Bingo"!
There were many news reporters who typed that way. Enjoy your Sunday, one of the last of summer.

  4. I really hate vacuuming. That and putting clean dishes away are the two chores I really detest. I would rather scrub the toilet...

    1. I hear you! Vacuuming will get do-able around here when I get the vacuum I want which is A Dyson! I'm allergic to dust and it doesn't put it all up in the air like our Kenmore dinosaur.
I am with you on the dishes! I'm now far too short and bent to put dishes away in the cupboards, so I'm glad I don't have to!

  5. I thought I hadn't read Hemmingway, but I may have read "Old Man and the Sea," which I liked.

    1. I had to read it, as it was assigned reading. Then I had to write a report on it. Creative Writing class. I hated that book. Teacher made me re-write my paper, and so I did, with glowing praise and a lot of mia culpas. I got an A+! I felt like a Kiss A**.

  6. LOL, everyone wants pancakes now! I wish my husband would agree to breakfast for dinner but he won't do that.

    1. I'll have to mix the batter up myself. I'll make the ones with cornmeal and yogurt in them, that are served with whipped cream and apple sauce. My kids loved them. oh to find that old, old recipe.
