Saturday9: Fool (If You Think It's Over) (1978)

Saturday 9: Fool (If You Think It's Over) (1978)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

This is a beautiful song and performance.

1) Do you have any pranks planned for April Fool's Day?  Maybe. heh heh...

2) When Crazy Sam was a little girl, she once pranked her mother by putting bubble wrap under the bath mat so Mom heard a POP when she stepped on it. When you find bubble wrap, can you resist popping it?  I don't pop it.  It's too useful for shipping things, and cushioning ceramics. I used it a lot of it for my business.

3) This week's song is about a wise man counseling a heartbroken younger person. Chris Rea, who wrote and performs this song, says it was inspired by watching his kid sister endure her first breakup. Were you in love at 17? Do you remember the object of your affections?  No I wasn't in love.  Well, when I was 16, a few of us had teeny tiny crushes on our new World History teacher.  He knew it, and he avoided our dreamy eyed looks like the adult that he was.

4) She's dressed in black as she mourns the end of her romance. Does your wardrobe include a lot of black? I love Black!  So yes.  I still have a lot of black things to wear.  I was married in my "little black dress" at a Justice of the Peace.  I'm sure the JP thought nothing of it.  Beats and other people wore a lot of black in those days.

5) He offers to treat her to her first glass of good wine. Do you prefer white or red?  I love red wines, but I am not so enthusiastic about white wine.

6) Chris' own teenage romance was highly successful. He met Joan Lesley while still in school and they have been married since 1968. Whose was the most recent wedding you have attended? It was the wedding of a friend's child. Sometime in the early 80's. Coincidently, I had to wear an all black pant's suit because I tore my pretty, muted plum colored dress on one of "Moby Dodge's" (our 21 foot wagon at the time) stupid spring seats that had never gotten fixed.  I loved that big wagon but after that it was a Love-Hate relationship.  But I digress.

7) Chris Rea is a passionate race car fan and once worked as a pit mechanic for a Formula One race. Do you watch auto racing? I used to love to watch the Indy and a lot of the qualifiers.  I don't know when we stopped watching the Indy. It was years ago though. Probably around the late 80's when we started Rock Hounding together.

8) In 1978, when this song was popular, Laverne and Shirley was America's #1 TV show. It's still available via cable and streaming today. Are/were you a fan? I've heard about it, but never saw it. Did I miss much?

9) Random question: What are you grateful for this morning? I am grateful that soon I'm getting both of my eyeball transplants, and I will be able to see better again.

Thank you Sam, for this fun meme every Saturday!  And that is not an April Fool, that is an honest to goodness Thank you.

    1. Ah yes, he was very swoon worthy. And Thanks about the eyes. I've got a lot to get done, but it will be worth it.

  2. I had a crush on a teacher when I was in 7th grade. My kids went to the same schools I attended, and my crush was my daughter’s 8th grade English teacher, I went to “Meet the teacher” night and felt my heart fluttering …

  4. Are you having cataracts removed? I've had lots of people say it corrected their vision significantly. I hope it goes well.

    1. It's different, with the same result but like a similar thing. But it is more complex.. Not to be mysterious but I don't completely understand the process. And yes, this is supposed to correct my distance vision, the creeping blindness, and I still have to wear glasses for close work.

  5. #5 I’m the opposite, I like white wine and red wine gives me an upset stomach and sometimes a migraine.
    #8 Nope.
#9 I had one done and I keep on asking the doctor to do the other… nope not bad enough for insurance.

    1. The wine, I go by taste, at least I did. Red's taste better to me and the ONLY white I like is almost a liqueur. Marsala?
      #8. Thought so. Lol!
#9. I think that insurance is a Pita. But my age and general "blind as a bat"-ness has shoved my over some line, me thinks. I'm happy not to wait and wish you didn't have to.
