See the Lettuce, Eat the Lettuce, Dig My Burrow
I am Dusty and this is my life, the daily life of a California Gopher tortoise.
First I find food, then I eat it. See the tiny bit of green left on my face in the second picture, before it all disappears into my mouth?
Anyway, then-as my brother Mosquito is demonstrating - it's time to dig more in "the burrow". Mosquito, Milagro and I are California Gopher Tortoises and there is a reason for our name. We dig holes to live in. The trouble comes for us digging, now, we are not outside by our little burrows anymore. Humans interfered. They were afraid we would be eaten by raccoons or even Raven, so they brought us in to live in this tough brown box. The box doesn't have nice soft dirt sides, but we all sure wish it did!

Baby Luann, soon the Tortoises are giong "Walk about", to visit the neighbors grasses.
ReplyDeleteWe are hoping this will stop their restlessness. Do you get restless sometimes?
I think that Mosquito, Milagro and Dusty all get restless. Tomorrow we will give them a little box of dirt to dig in. Sand is what they like, with a little compost mixed it. Do you have dirt to play in or a sandbox? It's fun. Good night, and I hope you sleep very well.
Your friend Aunt Lella.
