Little Happinesses, Sunday Matinee, Healing the Heart.

We recently watched, "Winter in Wartime",  a Dutch movie about World War II in Holland.   Holland suffered much at the hands of the Nazis.  The Dutch underwent starvation, summary executions, every thing that Nazis did everywhere else.   Through the eyes of a teenage boy, we see the affect on his family, and his town.  His father, the Mayor, tirelessly tries to save the community. All the while seeming like a collaborator, he was harboring people, here and there, protecting them in a very subtle way.  This is an excellent view of what happened in one small town in Holland during World War II.

This movie deserves it's R rating.  Obviously it would be better for me if I stopped watching such films.  But how can a human being turn their back on the history of those who gave their lives to defeat one of the worst aberrations of humankind that has ever occurred in history?

Something for the Heart:
