Little Red Corvette
Saturday 9: LIttle Red Corvette
(recommended by Smellyann)
No link this week. Prince apparently is very strict about copyright infringement.
1) The subject of this song is frankly sexual. Do you blush easily? Not anymore.
2) Prince is his real name (Prince Rogers, to be exact). Growing up, his relatives called him "Skipper." Do you have any nicknames within your family? We didn't knick name peeps, that I know of, at least not my family, the nuclear one that is. What the in laws got up to, I hope I never know.
3) Prince says he's "obsessed" with Mozart and reads whatever he can find about the composer. What's the last book you read? I've just quit reading The Red Horse, as it really is too much a kid's book for me. Now I'm reading The Burgess Boys, but it's early days. I'm skittish because of Ebola, so can't settle down.
4) Between Prince and The Beach Boys, the Corvette is a much sung-about car. Tell us about your vehicle. Fire Engine red 55 Merc, chopped, with tuck and roll in red and white. Gorgeous.
5) In the 1980s, when Prince was popular, MTV could turn a song into a hit. In 2014, how do you hear new music? From friends.
6) In 1982, when "Little Red Corvette" ruled the airwaves, Braniff Airways shocked the travel industry and threw passengers into chaos by declaring bankruptcy. When did you last fly? Did your trip go smoothly? It was to Park City in Utah in the early 90's, and, yes, it went smoothly.
7) 1982 is also the year Disney opened Epcot. Have you ever been to a Disney park? Our mother took us all to Disneyland when I was 11. It was fun then, as it was brand new. Neither I nor my kids have ever been there after that one childhood visit. We went camping a lot, which is way more fun!
8) 1982 is the year Cheers premiered. The sitcom was set in a bar where "everybody knows your name." Tell us about your favorite local bar or restaurant. I have no favorite bar but do like our neighborhood Italian Restaurant an awful lot. It's family owned and has been in business forever.
9) The 1980s were considered a highpoint in professional tennis, with Jimmy Connors and John McEnroe dominating the sport. Do you play tennis?
I used to compete in college, and I still love the game. The only thing I do now is Wii tennis which is an absolute BLAST!
I have attempted Wii tennis but I am not very good at it.
ReplyDeleteI'm so unwilling to let my scores go, that I created another char to take over since my wrist went wonky, lol. And, if you are good or not, I'd play. It's so nice at getting the blood cooking to do anything on the Wii. But then I'm not so sure about that canoe game. hehe. It's too tame!
DeleteYou're the second one to mention Wii tennis. Maybe I wouldn't be such a couch potato if I got it ...
ReplyDeleteIt is really fun, and you can play doubles! If a friend has one, that's how we got ours, try out the different games. There is Boxing, too, but I don't like hitting. The grand nieces are brutal with each other and the grown ups. lol. They had so much fun.
DeleteMy kids use to enjoy camping too. I did, too, with my bottle of wine, guitar and reading material!! I will have to try Wii tennis - I rarely attempt anything other than bowls....!
ReplyDeleteBowling is fun, Helena. Tennis is just my favorite. Ah, camping with the right stuff. Yesssss! I like to fish, and cook on the fire, and this should be in past tense. All I cook on a fire anymore is marshmallows for s'mores!
DeleteWe had a favorite Mexican restaurant in Pasadena that we went to forever, it changed hands a few years ago and never was as good. Still haven't found a good one here in MO.
ReplyDeleteBC, if you are near Branson, I'm not sure where you are, or St. Louis, there should be some good Mexican cooking around. Branson is an international destination for music now so they have some good stuff, I'm sure. I just have a friend who lives three miles away from Branson, and she used to work there so I'm sort of guessing on this.
