Ok, you asked for local opinions of Landmarks. You got em!

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: Mysterious Ways (1991)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In honor of St. Patrick's Day (this coming Tuesday), we're featuring one of Ireland's most successful exports, U2. What else is Ireland famous for?  Ireland is also famous for it's woolen cloth, for it's lace, and for it's folk music.

2) The Dublin studio where U2 recorded this song (and all of Achtung, Baby) is now a music store called Claddagh Records. U2 pilgrims from all over the world travel to the spot (Celia Street, Dublin 2). If we were to visit your neighborhood, are there any landmarks you could direct us to? Landmarks, hmmm.  Well, supposedly there is some place along the bay shore that Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo landed. There's a group building a replica of the brutal *******'s galleon, The San Salvador.  It's being built down by Spanish Landing, and that will sort of complete the myth. If you want to be there for the launch, it's this April 19th at 9 am.  I won't be there.  I may be part Spanish but I do not like this man at all.

The Balboa Park statue is of El Cid, someone I sort of like.  Now this gorgeous thing, and Balboa Park itself,  are both worthy of Landmark Status.

3) Lead singer Bono is rarely seen without his trademark sunglasses because he suffers from glaucoma. How is your vision? 20/20?  No, it is not.

4) Bono and wife Alison were married in 1982 and are still together today. Who is the longest-married couple you know?  Some rock hound friends and travel buddies.  They've been married at least 70 years.

5) When Bono inducted Frank Sinatra into the Grammy Hall of Fame, he applauded the older man's "swagger." Do you think you have swagger?  I sway a little but I don't think that qualifies as a swagger.

6) Bono has been honored by world leaders, including President Obama and Nelson Mandela and the Pope, for his philanthropy. Here's your turn to brag: tell us something you have received praise for recently.  True Grit. Lol!

7) Clearly Bono is the most famous member of U2. Who else is in the band?  There are other people in that band?  Who knew?

8) On St. Patrick's Day, will you wear green?   Of course.  My grandmother was half Irish and I intend to honor her memory.  Well, that makes me about an 1/8th Irish?  Surely enough to "swagger" around wearing green things, eh?

9) Will you enjoy a glass of green beer or maybe a Shamrock Shake from McDonald's?  I can't think of anything more gross!  Wearing green on the outside then, I guess, is my only option.  Spinach pie?

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!

  1. I'm about 1/8th Irish, too. And from my paternal grandmother.

I've never heard of Cabrillo, but your word is good enough for me. After all, anyone who is 1/8th Irish ...

  2. We share a good bit of DNA, Gal!

Oh, if only I could read (or even understand) James Joyce, I could offer up a piquant quote about Spaniards, those Infamous Canards of the spread of Christianity.

It's late. I've had my meds. heehee
