Saturday9: The Joker

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: The Joker (1973)
because Stacy recommended it.

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Steve Miller claims he's a picker, grinner, sinner, lover, smoker and joker. Do any of those six words describe you?
Maybe a "picker", but it was a long time ago.  I still pick out small tunes on my ukulele now so maybe a little.  Playing a musical instrument is supposed to be an excellent stress buster.  So, dig out those bongos!

2) He maintains he's still a midnight toker. When's the last time you got high?
Oddly, for my time of coming of age, I've never, ever, been high.  Well, if the ghastly stuff I was on at the hospital after knee surgery doesn't count.  Blech!  The pictures on the wall became animated movies!  So, maybe then?

3) The lyrics include a reference to peaches. Name your favorite fruit.
This is hard.  Apples?  Maybe strawberries? I love all the berries. But mangoes are right on their heels.  Golden Berries are my newest berry madness.

4) This song had a big impact on the character of Joey on Friends, who had an imaginary friend named Maurice with the occupation of space cowboy. Did you ever have an imaginary friend?
I did.  His name was Michael.  He may still be around...  Do they ever really go away?  *cue spooky music*
From "Today's Parent Magazine"

5) Steve Miller is the pride of Milwaukee, WI. What else is Milwaukee famous for?
Some sort of Beer brand I think.  Breweries?

6) Steve Miller considers himself a serious blues guitarist. When did you last feel like singing the blues?
I could sing the blues most any day.  I just choose happiness.  I tell myself, out loud works best, "You are not going to cry over this now; however, you may do it later."  That usually helps.
Pinterest.  Is it ever anything else these days?

7) In 1973, when this song was popular, you could buy a portable 8-track tape player for $44.50. On what device do you listen to music most often?
I don't have any one device that predominates.  I have an iPod nano.  Also I listen on YouTube.  And then I play CD's on the old stereo at Christmas.  That is lovely.

8) A Curious George book packaged with a Curious George plush toy was a big seller at Christmas 1973. Tell us about a toy -- either given or received -- that brightened a holiday or birthday for you.
I'm choosing to ignore that ONE toy thing.  I didn't get toys, per se. Except for my kewpie doll. It was from my grandparents but it's too far back in the dusty past to remember if it was for Christmas or a birthday anymore.
I think my favorite birthday present was a typewriter when I was 10 or 11.  My mother saw that I got it.  And, a tea set (adult size) for Christmas when I was maybe 14 which my mother also saw that I received.  She was as good to her kids as she could be.  I know it wasn't easy.

This is from Rhea Lana's Page which you can find HERE.  It's how to do a tea party from a child's point of view and very charmingly written. Maybe you may find it something you could do for the girls in your life.  BBQ for boys, Tea party for girls.  Sexist, I know................

AS TO Giving....I think the things my girls liked the best were their skates.  These skates were the modern ones, that you could dance with.  They were awesome!  I did make them all dolls some of which they still have.

9) M*A*S*H  was one of TV's top-rated shows in 1973. Who is your favorite M*A*S*H character?
I really can't remember, but he had a mustache.  The twins were under one year old, and I fell asleep a lot in the evenings. lol
This guy: B.J.
Really liked him though I had to look him up.

  1. It sounds like your mom tried to spark you on to dream big and reach for the stars.
Twin babies...we'll excuse you for sleeping through M*A*S*H. I'd say that should excuse sleeping through WWIII!
    Have a blessed Saturday, Zippi!

    1. That she did, Stacy. And, I did sleep through a two engine fire on our street, and a five alarm one at the apartments nearby. Now a gnat's wing beats can waken me.
Hope you had a great day. And that you are relaxing now. Lol about WWIII.

    1. It really did, Gal. Plus I was the envy of my cousin with whom I used to play office. She had to be the receptionist after that.

  3. When I went off to college my father gave me a typewriter as a going away present... but he got the small type. Not what you wanted when you had to write a ten page report.

    1. Those were pretty teeny. Mine was a Royal Elite, but you couldn't tote it around very well as it was as heavy as a dozen bricks.. It was a brown metal, like some of the old sewing machines were. Rippled sort of. I loved it.

  4. Sometimes I think I would like to try playing the ukulele. It's got such a happy sound.

    1. You would like it, I reckon. It is a happy little sound. I just play the cords on it so far. Not much into singing anymore. But it's very sweet, and makes for some happy times.

  5. I remember getting a typewriter as a gift and how happy I was to get it. I bet it's sitting in my attic right now too.

    1. Well, computers have just overtaken that technology... there must be a lot of old typewriters stored away.
I have a tiny portable in my closet. I really need to get it looked after.
The twins left my Spanish language portable at a bus stop one year. Now that one I cried over.

  6. I think a typewriter is a great gift. I did not have my own until after I married. Most excellent.

    1. Somehow my mother found the one she gave me, used. It disappeared when psycho-dad lost the farm, and we left lots of things behind.

  7. I slept through much of Mash too., But I have enjoyed the re-runs. I laughed at your answer to #2. I think I remember a high from Morphine that might have been like that. Tiny boys skateboarding on the hospital walls. So real!

    1. Oh!! Your hallucinations were way better than mine then; morphine made me sick so it was Percocet and Vicodin. Oh, Doctor!!

  8. I'm suddenly SUPER glad I'm allergic to morphine....

Also, I'm another gal who pined after BJ, despite the fact that he was married.

    1. Oh yes, morphine is the very worst stuff.
Aha! He's still a lovely guy, and does much good for the world, according to Wikipedia. Besides, he's fictional and we can pine after him all we want!👍😉 eh?

  9. I always wanted to try those new "danceable" skates. They look like they'd be so much fun, but I'm much too ancient to find out!

Oh, yes - BJ! I forgot about him. He was (is?) lovely!

    1. Oh yes, leave them to the kids. Our 17 year old was at a rink and was slammed into a wall in a pileup, and ended up with a broken collarbone. The inline skates are even more dangerous. Hubby got a pair, and his sister and bro in law, who both worked in a hospital, talked him out of using them. .
      Wasn't P.J. a sweetie? I agree...
