Borrowed from the still free internet ...
Borrowed enlightening post on Government --that's us folks! --- ownership of this and that...
"I AM AN AMERICAN CONSERVATIVE SHITHEEL
This morning I was awoken by my alarm clock powered by electricity generated by the public power monopoly regulated by the US Department of Energy. I then took a shower in the clean water provided by the municipal water utility. After that, I turned on the TV to one of the FCC regulated channels to see what the national weather service of the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration determined the weather was going to be like using satellites designed, built, and launched by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. I watched this while eating my breakfast of US Department of Agriculture inspected food and taking the drugs which have been determined as safe by the Food and Drug Administration.
At the appropriate time as regulated by the US congress and kept accurate by the National Institute of Standards and tTechnology and the US Naval Observatory, I get into my National Highway Traffic Safety Administration approved automobile and set out to work on the roads build by the local, state, and federal departments of transportation, possibly stopping to purchase additional fuel of a quality level determined by the Environmental Protection Agency, using legal tender issed by the Federal Reserve Bank. On the way out the door I deposit any mail I have to be sent out via the US Postal Service and drop the kids off at the public school.
After spending another day not being maimed or killed at work thanks to the workplace regulations imposed by the Department of Labor and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, enjoying another two meals which again do not kill me because of the USDA, I drive my NHTSA car back home on the DOT roads, to ny house which has not burned down in my absence because of the state and local building codes and fire marshal's inspection, and which has not been plundered of all it's valuables thanks to the local police department.
I then log on to the internet which was developed by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Administration and post on freerepublic.com and fox news forums about how SOCIALISM in medicine is BAD because the government can't do anything right.
----
And apparently, the Global Positioning Satellite system is POS, right?
The only reason government doesn't work is because conservative Republican administrations defunded and/or patronage staffed them with people with ties to special business interests: to wit the last FDA, Dept of Interior and Agriculture under Bush. No one seems to have a problem with pumping over $500Bil to the Defense Department which last I hear is a socialized entity."
kma healthcare trolls.. greed is going to cost more in the long run.

have a little pie with your whipped cream
This is the kind of craziness that families get up to on holidays. This pie plate won the contest for most whipped cream, and only because the next person in line didn't have a new can.

The Doctors talk......
I'm listening to the doctors who are talking about things like preventive care and the time they have to spend just on filling out forms, and the excitement of being doctors CARING for patients.

St Anthony
I have to say a big thank you to that WONDERFUL Saint Anthony, to whom I appealed, which came about on advice from a friend out in the deserts of the Great Basin.
St Anthony helped me find not only the power cord but a wrist watch that had been missing for two years. Now, if the glass vase would show up, that would just about cover everything that's gone missing and caused heart scald.
Try this if you lose something, nothing ventured nothing gained.
This is the incantation:
"Saint Anthony, Saint Anthony, please come around. Something is lost and cannot be found."
I found a pretty picture of him, too:
St Anthony from Google Pictures
And HERE is where I found it.
So lovely.
Now, back to this sewing machine sprucing up project.

An Oral History of Arlene Fisch
A convo with a net friend in Scotland got me interested in tracking down my would-have-been professor, Arlene Fisch, and what she was up to. Well, I found this Oral History done in July 2001 by Sharon Church.
I say would-have-been professor because the baby I was expecting that summer turned out to be twins! I don't think I stopped running for at least a whole two years, you know? hehe
Hope that you enjoy reading about this pioneering Jewelry designer/professor in applying textile (knitting and weaving) techniques to itty bitty wires.

The Heavy Lifting
This doesn't look heavy, but to me, inside the machine, it looked normal.
Well, needless to say, it wasn't normal. What I thought was going to take hours and hours, DH spotted immediately and called it a "shunt". Isn't it cute? It's what the bench mechanic left in when he checked out the hapless machine some years ago. Since I didn't need to use this nice little Singer, I never ran it at home to see what was what.
This machine is going to my other dd who also likes to sew, and it's one of those heavy duty workhorses that Singer used to make that will sew just about anything, maybe even metal! Yesterday there was an "easter egg hunt" to find the other accessories, some of which I am POSITIVE the dust bunnies ATE! But DH found those as well, digging under the sewing table to unearth them. There be Cams!
A side by side comparison, Done by Kaiser Foundation, of Healthcare proposals.
DH found this page at the St. Petersburg Times Site called PolitiFact.com. HERE is the comparison from the link on their page.
Being properly informed will help us stay ahead of paid "activists" who are showing up at town meetings and disrupting them, and the other tactics that are being used by an Industry awash in ready cash by denying care.
At first, I wondered, "Why Kaiser, who started this thing rolling to what it is today, by talking to one of Nixon's operatives?" The easy answer is, that they don't want to have a single payer system, because they could no longer do what they do best, which is to limit care. I was with Kaiser for 20 years, so I do know what they do and how it's done.

Skywatcher
I was listening to a Nun's Choir, singing, and then to a Monk's Choir, looking up at the sky through this small window.
Believe me, you get the feeling of being in a cell and think some pretty spiritual thoughts about life and death and what comes after..... with the beautiful clouds and sky as an inspiration.
Peace and Love are wished for you...
Insurance Rescindment, a new case
Blue Cross must be some sort of industry leader for this horrific practice, unless you have protection, like CalTrans retirees, where your coverage cannot be rescinded.
Once again, we have to remember what was overlooked when the Insurance Industry was allowed to tuck the ball and run with it, sweet talking the politicos. It cannot be stressed enough that these companies were ALWAYS in it to make money. They did this by taking premiums, and denying care. After first watching Kaiser Permanenti do this successfully, And THEN getting Nixon's hearty go ahead, it just got too easy after that, as the companies bought their way into more and more of the Government's Rule makers.
Awful, but true, and look who got hurt.
One tactic NOT mentioned in this Video is the reality of people who have a family member on the group policy who falls ill or has a serious accident requiring expensive care. The insurers have been going to the group insurance holders and cranking up the group coverage fees. This, to the point that the employee finds themselves out of a job. All very behind the scenes, this maneuver, but very devastating to families. You can image how devastating.
That's like a double evisceration in family life. And it's one of the reasons that medical bills are causing such a high percentage of bankruptcies.

And then too, there is the unreality...
....that unreality that Harry and Louise live in.
This is from Salon, and you HAVE to read the comments at the end. Sometimes I love how Americans, and their free wheeling love of anonymity, respond to issues.
Edit: Well, there are a whole lot more comments now, mostly personal stories. So, ROTFLMBO is no longer kind.

I have a dear friend who is suffering from a disease caused by a chemical OSHA has banned in her industry, and her DH was diagnosed with cancer last month. They are waiting, with great trepidation, to find out how much their HMO is going to pay for his procedures, or if indeed their policy will be canceled, like a door slammed in their faces when they are trying to go through it.
The Senator Blowviates......The President Responds
I put these things up because I am LISTENING everyday to people who are filled with misinformation derived from sources that have everything to gain by keeping us FRIGHTENED and MISINFORMED.
This is such a worthy battle!

Seasons Theme Post Card Group 2009
This post card is dimentional and reminded me of little Cotton flowers just after they open. Quilted and outlined with sewing. A neat little poem on the other side, too. Another lovely card.
On the beach and off comes the bikini top, very cute card, pieced and quilting.
pieced and quilted and all the colors of summer, golden sun and lots of flowers. A very lovely card.
Applique and machine embroidery on a hand painted fabric. Lovely card that is evocative of summer moving in to fall near a wooded wetlands.
These are four of the postcards in the group. There will be more to come. This is one of the most fun things to do with fabric, these little works or art. I'm so happy to be in the group...

Here's a very nice IN YOUR FACE real case for Canada's System. Don't let the Goon Squad scare you, America.
I can testify that I have a friend who almost died of stage four cervical cancer because her incompetent doctor never referred her to a specialist. She's an artist and has plenty of $$ and smarts, just a stupid HMO, that is interested in limiting care. I find this a insult to the people who pay the bills in the richest country in the world. An obscenity, really.

Sweet Sweet stuff, the kind of stuff that you can live on...
This is the blog of a Cop, somewhere where it gets very cold, but I didn't check it out.
He had a pet named Jasper, Jazzboy and maybe even called Jazzy, too. I found his blog through Google on "Jasper". Be sure to check the three links to his cats, near the bottom of the list on the HOME page.
check out the topic, Whizbang, too. Your heart will just do some flip flops.
Thanks Mike! You made me smile and sigh some big old sighs.

Nebraska Cannot Wait for Healthcare...Listen to Mike Snider
This is just ONE of the small businesses that the President was talking about. I know several myself, and I know that you all do, too. Ask them and see what they have to say.
You see the basic struggle is that I'm sort of a Kat Person...
Click HERE to EnlargeThank you, Darby Conley, for helping me out here.
Also, there are some PostCards arriving which I've scanned to post.
And I made Jasper's blog public. Being the age I am, and it's well known that the rate of eccentricity just accelerates with age, it's best not to be too secretive about it. Basically, you care less about thinking differently than the madding crowd, and all that noise... His blog is under my profile if you wish to see it.
'Far from the madding crowd's ignoble strife,
Their sober wishes never learn'd to stray;
Along the cool sequester'd vale of life
They kept the noiseless tenor of their way.'
