"Fifty-one years ago, a group of protesters calling themselves WITCH staged a Halloween “hex” on Wall Street. Dressed in black, with long peaked hats, the women sneaked through the narrow streets of downtown Manhattan late into the night, making their way to the entrance to the New York Stock Exchange, where they oozed glue into the latches of its doors. The next morning, the male bankers couldn’t get in — and the Dow reportedly fell 13 points.

'We didn’t consider ourselves real witches, but we used the moniker because of what it represented: a powerful woman,” said the author Robin Morgan, one of the protest organizers, noting that the acronym — which stood for “Women’s International Terrorist Conspiracy From Hell” — probably wouldn’t go over so well today.'

But today there might be no need to sneak around. Real witches are roaming among us, and they’re seemingly everywhere.

1. If you were offered a job in another part of the country, would you take it? No, but only because we are so old and already retired.  I can't think of another job that would be worth giving up my naps for.  

 2. If you were in a bank and someone started to hold it up, what would you do?  I'd do what they told me to do.  IF I were a KungFu Black Belt, i.e. a trained person, or as big as a Orc Warrior, I might try to do something.  But, anything I tried to do in the "weak and feeble body of a woman" could get someone else killed.  So, I wouldn't risk it.

3. If you found a suitcase filled with $1,000,000 what would you do  To be honest, first I'd get a lawyer, then I'd turn the whole shebang into the police, and get a receipt.  There is now so much corruption floating around every corner of  our world that I would be afraid to not have an attorney by my side.  Huge Money is a big generator of trouble, especially large amounts of anonymous Cash.  I DON'T want anymore trouble in my life. 
 
4. If you had a 25 hour day what would you do with your extra hour? I only sleep about 4 to 5 hours a night anyway.  I want a longer nap whenever I get to take one. 
 
5. If you had the opportunity to be different, what would you change?  I once told my girls that if you change ONE thing, it could change everything.  I can't imagine a time line without my daughters, hard though it was on them, as life is a tragedy for those who feel.. Some famous person said that... A Greek philosopher I think.  Anyway, they are lovely people, and I wouldn't change anything.  I'd hate to have missed them or their daddy.
 
6. If you received a lottery ticket as a gift and won a lot of money, would you share with the person who gave you the ticket?  Yes.  Such good fortune should be shared with the person whose generosity created it.
 
7. If you spoke two languages and your spouse spoke only one, would you raise your children as bilingual? Yes.  In fact I'd teach my spouse that extra language, too!

8. If you were candy, which candy would you be?  Almond Joy!

9. If you were a toy, which toy would you be?  I'd like to be a Teddy Bear.

10. If you were abducted by aliens, would you tell anyone?  It would be on a need-to-know basis. *wink*

11. If you could go to the moon, would you?  Only with Baron Von Münchhausen


12. If you had a time machine, where would you go and why?  I'd go 70 years into the future in order to see what has become of the Earth.

13. If you saw a robbery, would you report it? Yes, and right away.  
I still believe completely in Law and Order when it comes to prima facia criminality.  The grey areas that politicians argue over don't interest me anymore.  The Law does, but not the posturing.   I hope that we, as a people, don't have to live much longer within this holocaust. 

14. If you were to speak to a graduating class, what would you say?  University?  I'd encourage them to find employment in or out of their fields, and then go for advanced degrees.  Learning is life long, and so you may as well have advanced degrees to show for the time.

15. If given the choice between being given great wisdom or great wealth, which would you choose?  What level of Great Wisdom?  The sort of transcendent kind that is well worth the having?  The kind that makes great wealth a sort of burden, because in reality it is?  If by great is meant The Taoist kind, then, yes, I'll go for Great Wisdom.  I have always wanted to know about how everything fits into a unified system, seen and unseen things.  The answers to all the "Secrets".

1) This song is about a girl who ditched her high heels so she wouldn't be taller than her beau. Tell us about the most recent addition to your footwear wardrobe. Do you need to go shoe shopping?  I might buy some new Sketchers but not sure.  I like the wild ones...  I just wish they came in my size!

2) She sings that she misses the sheets on the bed she made herself. As you answer these questions, is your bed made?  No, because it's 4 AM Friday, and too early.  Someone's still in it.

3) This video shows her in a ring. Have you ever worn boxing gloves?  No.

4) This week's featured artist, Kelsea Ballerini, got married on Christmas Day in 2017. That makes their anniversary easy to remember. Are you celebrating any birthdays or anniversaries this month?  Just a Wedding anniversary.

5) Kelsea has been quoted as saying, "Perfect doesn't exist." She worries that we exhaust ourselves "trying to be something that isn't real." How about you? Do you believe your best is good enough? Or do you strive for perfection?  I am an primarily an artist and a craftsman.  So, I strive for perfection.  It's probably an illness. lol  Certified Mania even.  

 
6) One of Kelsea's tattoos is a square inside of a circle, aka a square peg in a round hole, on her left wrist. She says it's there to remind her that it's OK to "not fit the mold of what normal might be." Tell us about a time where you felt like a square peg in a round hole.  I feel that way all the time.  That's OK, isn't it? 

7) In 2018, when this song was popular, French President Emmanuel Macron lowered fuel taxes. When it's time to fill your tank, do you shop around for the best price?  Always, and you do know, don't you,  there is an app for that?

 8) Also in 2018, Luxembourg made all public transportation free. When is the last time you rode a bus or train?  When I was still volunteering at the UN gift shop in Balboa Park, several years ago, I rode the city bus.  The buses in our massively spread out city are very inconvenient.  We also have the trolley, but it's seats are very uncomfortable, and so the bus fleet still gets my vote.  Thank the vandals for the hard seats...

9) Random question: When did you most recently say, either out loud or to yourself, "I haven't got a thing to wear?"  What I usually say is, "Too bad; I'm wearing this and if they don't like it, they can lump it."  I've left the "World of Fashion" well behind me.

Point Reyes Elk Herd

A lot of American Beef and dairy product (not fresh milk of course) is shipped overseas.  It might not be these ranchers and dairy farmers in particular, but if it is, I want them to feel my outrage.  I'm on a road to find out where their product goes.

The Tule Elk subspecies  once ranged across the Central Valley.  They almost became extinct, and were down to 10 individuals due to Market Hunters, when rescued.  That was when they were introduced to the Peninsula they now inhabit, as well as various other sites. 

In an odd twist of fate, we have a Rancher to thank for saving them when he recognized their plight.

This reminds me not to condemn all Ranchers as destructive.   I actually like ranches but I don't think they should have the last word.  And certainly not in something this important.  Illegal killings take place as it is.  That's a big empty country up there.  I don't want to subsidize the death of a California Icon for more beef cattle.  They aren't natives at ALL!  They are an English breed, and they are now all over the American landscape....they are everywhere.

1. When you looked at yourself in the mirror today, what was the first thing you thought?
When I look in a mirror, any day, I check to see if my hair is a fright wig that day. 

2. Where did you go on the very first vacation of your life?  I went to a cabin on the shores of Lake Erie with my mother, grandparents, aunts and cousins.

3. Open the door of your refrigerator. What is the first thing you see?  Cheddar cheese

4. Tell us about your first kiss OR your last first date.   Last first date?  I'm not decoding this very well.  

5. If you had wings to fly about the universe, where is the first place you’d land?
I'd go to the center of our own Galaxy.  Going anywhere else might be problematic, considering the speed at which light travels and the vast distance to anywhere else.

6. What is the first thing you do when you get in your car?  Lock the car up.

7. What is the first thing you ever said to your firstborn?  I really can't remember the first thing.  It was over 53 years ago.

8. What is the last thing you heard about your first love?  Last  thing About  my first love?  I've had a simple and uncomplicated Love life, and I'm still with my first love.  I really don't know how to answer this.  

9. If you had created the world in seven days yourself, what would you have created on the First Day?  Light, of course.  Even scientists tell about the creation of light being first out of the void that was nothing.  The Big Bang?  I'm sure everyone has heard of that.

10. What is the first song in your IPOD or song list?
The group Boyce Avenue.  Their version of "Landslide" 



11. What is the first tangible thing you lost that you could never find again?
My little red clutch purse was stolen when I was about 27.

12. Who is your favorite First Lady of all time?  Jackie Kennedy.  Always and ever.

14. When was the last time you needed First Aid?  Oh you do NOT want to hear about that ALL over again.  No no no... 

15. Can you explain what a first down is in football?  Yes, pretty much.... first down is the first attempt to run the ball 10 yards on a new play either at the beginning of a quarter or after a touchdown, or a field goal.  There are four downs to move the ball 10 yards.  By down is meant that  it's the ball on the ground in front of the center.  I used to love football.  Then I heard a story about some visiting Russian Athletes and what they thought of American Football.  "All stand up, All fall down".   I thought, "that's pretty much what it is."

1) This song is about a guy who, out of the blue, phones an ex. Have you ever spontaneously phoned or emailed a former lover? Has an ex ever reached out to you?  I  never had Exes. 

2) He suggests walking through the park, taking a drive along the beach, or watching TV. Do any of those suggestions appeal to you right now?  Actually all those things appeal to me, Now, since it's cooled down considerably from the summer temps, it would be fun to go to the beach, and also go to a park.  Watching something on Netflex always is appealing.

3) "England Dan" got his nickname because he was a passionate Beatles fan and would affect a British accent when he talked about his favorite group. Are you good at imitating accents?  I've always been a good mimic.  It's probably the "singing thing" that aided it.  I love Jimmy Carter, and my sister still remembers me mimicking his sweet Georgia accent.  I'm out of practice but I can do a polish accent, too, and a British one.  

4) Dan met John Coley when they were high school classmates in Dallas. When they were still kids, they agreed that "John Ford Coley" would be a better stage name. Think back to your high school days. Which of your friends daydreamed along with you?  Daydreaming hmmm?  I think it was a few of the senior scouts.  We were all on the college track, so we'd muse about that.  I always wanted to go to Berkeley and probably should have!  Instead I chose UCLA as it was closer to home.  Bad idea.  Talk about musing. I guess it never ends, does it?

5) After the duo disbanded, "England Dan" went to Nashville, billed himself by his real name -- Dan Seals -- and recorded country music. Who is your favorite country performer?  Always, and ever, it will be Johnny Cash.  I even like to hear his speaking voice.  He spoke up for the common people.



Has anyone else noticed how much YouTube has lost in sound quality?   Maybe my old ears finally are giving up on the job.  This is GUYS but you get the idea.

 
6) Today John Ford Coley lives in TN. He performs occasionally and raises horses. Have you ever been to TN?  No, but I'd like to see all the Southern States.  I want to go sometime other than Spring Floods and Hurricane Season.  Winter probably is best, but I'm not sure.  Summer is too hot HOT HOT for me. 
 
7) In 1975, when this song was popular, Foster Grant Sunglasses had a suggested retail price of $5/pair. Do you buy sunglasses more for fashion or utility? Utility.  I buy prescription ones now and as cheaply as possible.  They fall off a person's face, and sometimes they are not retrievable.  I will leave all that to your imaginations but I will say this:  Don't wear then into a Campground  outhouse.

8) The most popular movie of 1975 was Jaws. Have you seen it? I've seen a spoof of it but not the real movie.  I wanted to be able to go back into the water you see.  *wink*

9) Random question: Excluding anyone related to you by blood or marriage, what man are you closest to?  There's just no one left on Earth; so many have passed away.  You begin to feel your age when you have to admit this.  Most of the Rockhounds were ten years older and so were the neighbors. I had a lot of good, close, "guy" friends in these two groups.

Nope.

2.   What do you find yourself buying all the time? 
I've completely stopped buying anything but books.
 
3.   When was the last time you got a real letter in the mail?
It has to be several years ago.  From Meffie I think.  
Wait.. PJ wrote me a letter a couple years ago. Sadly we were totally wrapped up in the decline and demise of my mil so I just emailed my friend.
 
4.   Have you ever lived in a house/apartment that has been broken into?
No
 
5. Did you walk to school with your friends? Take a school bus? Ever have someone carry your books home from school?
I've done the first two.  No one even got a crush on me in school so ...there ya go!
 
6. Do you like pumpkin seeds? Do you carve the pumpkin and roast the seeds? Do you buy packaged, prepared pumpkin seeds?
I love roasted pepitas, which are not from a pie pumpkin but from a green one grown just for it's fat little seeds.
 
7. Does your car or did a family car have a name?
Our Jeep is called "Jeeplie", and our big, old white Dodge station wagon was named "Moby Dodge".  It was the longest station wagon at 21 feet, almost an RV!  It was great for family camping trips.

8.  The first week of October was National Mystery Series Week. Do you sleuth alongside Nancy Drew or Miss Marple? Fan of Nero Wolfe?   Now you'll be sorry you asked....


I adore Mysteries!  
I love all of Agatha Christie, including Miss Marple, as well as P.D. James's Adam Dagliesh.  But I've never read any Nancy Drew.  
I've also read all of Sherlock Holmes Mysteries and all of the Donna Leone ones about Commissario Guido Brunetti.  
I've read many of the mysteries written by Janet Evanovich. 
I also like the shorter ones written about sleuthing cats, and cupcake shop owners, as well as ones about a CrossStitch Shop owner in Minnisota.  
Also, want to read the mystery series by Mary Kruger.  
And, I still want to read the series about a Quilt shop owner turned sleuth. 
 
9. Have you ever spent ages writing something on your computer when it suddenly crashed and you lost it all?
No.  I'm married to a guy whose job was as a software and hardware geek/techie.  If something gets even a tiny bit wobbly, he is all OVER it.
 
10. Are you one of those people who can sleep through anything?
Nope, I still can barely sleep through the drop of a PIN.  But that's improved with meditation on the "nothing" of the world.
 
11. What type or kind of art do you like? And do you draw or paint yourself
I like all schools of art except for whatever Andy Warhol started as a joke, and it's still a joke...and several minimalists, like the one in Germany is it?  You know, the one who just crapes a wedge along a canvas several hundred times and is guaranteed 500K per painting.  And,  all Jack the Dripper's stuff is so Blegth!

What would I put on my walls?  I have a seascape of my own, and one of my daughter's of a swan that she did in 9th grade.  I also have a drawing of hers that is of a cougar drinking from a stream that won 1st place at the Catalina's Art Festival when she was 17.
 
12. If you went to London, where would you go first?
Probably I would go, first,  to see Big Ben.
 
13.  What is one quote that you love to quote?
The Amaranté one in the header. 
 
14.  Do you ever at times see the world in black and white?
Not a chance.  Everyone knows that it's 50 shades of Gray
 
15. Do you believe there is life somewhere else in the universe?
Yes, many places.  And, if we are lucky,  they'll never find US!

1) This song is about a man whose father advises him to live life to the fullest, to become "the friend you'd like to have." How about you? Are you the friend you'd like to have?
That's something that's really tough for me to quantify.  I'm probably too introverted to always be there for someone else, which is a quality that is supposed to be one of the finest ones in a friendship.  So, I reckon the answer to this is ultimately, No.  I've had some great friends, and think of anyone I meet anywhere as having the potential to be a friend.  idk... I rarely meet someone I don't like for some reason or other.  But they are out there, "Rarely" not meaning, "Never"...
 
2) The song lists several "bucket list" items: skydiving, mountain climbing, riding a bull. Have you done any of those things? Would you like to? 
I haven't done any of those things.  And, no.  The things I want to do don't involve risking bones or death.

3) In the music video, Tim McGraw is wearing a white button-down shirt, blue jeans and a cowboy hat. Which of those items is in your wardrobe?
Blue Jeans, I have a thick sort of panama hat that is the shape of a Gaucho Hat.  Does it count?
 
4) He wears a cowboy hat because he is embarrassed by the size of his forehead. When you wear a hat, are you more likely doing it for style, like Tim, or for protection from the elements?
Protection from the Elements.
 
5) McGraw's biological father was Tug McGraw, pitcher for the Mets and Phillies. How did your baseball team do this season?
I have no idea at all.  Padre Fever is Behind me these days. 
 
6) Tim McGraw and wife Faith Hill live just outside of Nashville. They enjoy inviting friends over to sit around a bonfire, drinking beer and playing guitars. Tell us about the most recent gettogether you had with friends.
The Rockhounds get together at Christmas and that's the last one we got to.
 
7) Tim likes his tattoos. He admits his silliest one -- a leprechaun wearing a cowboy hat -- was acquired during a night of drinking. Do you have a tattoo? If so, are you glad you have it and would you get it again?
No tats.  Sorry to be so dull.
 
8) In 2003, when this song was popular, the supersonic Concord took its last flight. When did you most recently board a plane? What was your destination?
It was so long ago that I can't remember it.  I think it was when I flew back down to San Diego after visiting my girls when their daddy was out of town.
 
9) Random question: When did you last walk around the house naked?
Two weeks and two months ago.  I stupidly tried to walk through the kitchen to get something from the dining room table after showering.  My feet were barely wet but down I went.  Big bruise on my temple, Broken, dislocated (humerus) shoulder and broken elbow.  I'm still healing. 
 

This Poor Gal! I know how she feels.  I'd give a lot to just have those 30 seconds back so as to rethink it all before I nearly killed myself. lol

The whatnots of life.

Just “knowing” something isn’t good enough.  You also have to integrate it into a cohesive whole and figure out how it works within that system.  Just trust that if it’s here, if it exists, then it fits into a unity.

What I’m reading..

This book is an exhaustive examination of the event including testimony of many witnesses to it.  It is extremely well written and annotated.  I was 18 at the time, and remember this sad happening very well.  I’m so glad someone made an effort to reconstruct the deeds of the day.  There be Monsters....

1) This version of "You Made Me Love You" is the teenaged Judy Garland's fan letter to Clark Gable. Tell us about one of your teen crushes.
 
I had a crush on ONE single boy all the way from grade school to High School. I could have been a stalker but he moved away part of that time. 

2) Garland sang to this to Gable at a birthday party thrown for him at MGM. Who is the last person you sang "Happy Birthday" to?
My one hundred year old mother in law.

 3) Thinking of birthdays ... Judy received an engagement ring from the man who would be her first husband, David Rose, for her 18th birthday. Are you wearing a ring, or any jewelry, as you answer these 9 questions?
No, not even earrings.

 4) It's said Judy's favorite dish was steak and kidney pie. If you could have anything at all for dinner tonight, what would you choose?
 Now the font is bugged and I haven't got the time to deal with it.
I chose Penne pasta with artichoke hearts and Pesto5) Judy was ambidextrous, writing with her left hand but playing tennis with her right. Are you equally comfortable using your right and left hands?
Yes, I am.  But, when I told a doctor that I was left handed but used both hands for everything he told me that most lefties did this.  That it was a defense mechanism.  Happily, this latest injury kept me from doing very little that required only one hand to execute.  I was chuffed!

 6) To relax between takes of her most famous movie, The Wizard of Oz, Judy read comics in the newspaper. Do you still read a printed newspaper?
I sometimes read the local rag, but mostly only the front page.  Sometimes they can tell it like it is without sugar coating things.

 7) She could also knit. Judy was known to make blankets and caps for the children of crew members on her films. Do you knit?
Yes, I love it, and it's one of the few joys in life that I have left. lol  I want to make short fingered gloves again and start in making dolls and little cotton rabbits and their clothing.

 8) In 1938, when this record was popular, the March of Dimes founded. Do you have any dimes in your wallet (or pocket) right now? 
Sorry, no pockets and I never actually carry coins in my wallet. 

 9) Random question: Catsup puddle next to your fries, or a drizzle of catsup on your fries?
 I don't like Catsup on potatoes.  I like Malt vinegar.  Yummy!
