1) In this song, Tony sings that he recognizes his lover's insecurities because she's a lot like him. Are you unsure in social situations? Or do you meet new people easily?
I must say, Tony Bennett, Louie Prima and Perry Como, were my favorite pop singers. But....
About the question of Shyness...I used to be pretty polite and shy. But that all changed when I got tired of being walked on or ignored completely. Now I have an expressed Opinion on Just EVERY thing, and I also meet people easily. Well, that would be everything but Quantum Physics but life has it's limits, you know?
2) While singing was his livelihood, painting was Tony Bennett's passion. What hobby do you participate in with the greatest enthusiasm?
We share two things then, Tony and I. I am also an ex-painter. I was being trained in portrait painting and seascapes when life took a couple of left turns - three actually. I still draw and sketch but no longer paint.
Now-a-days, I guess both sewing and knitting are my stalwart old standbys. I gave all my stuff away -easels, paints, etc, (except for mother's watercolor boxes) away to my daughter, who is a fabulous artist.
3) Tony was a proud son of New Jersey. Many singers hail from The Garden State, including Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi and Frank Sinatra. What heroes, heroines or celebrities hail from your home state?
Though I was born in Ohio it's not really my home state. That would be California, and Hollywood, in fact, was where my parents were living when World War Two broke out. But I was conceived here in California.
California has far too many actors and musicians to name, and most of them came from somewhere else. I'm not sure about any home grown actors.
4) Though Tony dreamed of becoming a commercial artist, he had to drop out of school in his teens to help support his family. Looking back on your teen years, what did you want to do for a living? Is that what you ended up doing?
I fell in love with Geology in college, and that's what I was going to do with the rest of my life..... if I could. I wanted a degree in Geology. But, I had to drop out of school because of family troubles. It was very serious and there was nothing to be done. I kissed UCLA, and my hopes, goodbye.
5) During WWII, Tony served in Germany. The first time his voice was broadcast was during an aircheck for Armed Forced Radio. For the occasion he sang "St. James Infirmary." That was Tony's first. Let's contrast it with your last. What's the most recent song you sang? Just this morning I was singing - humming- along with the music by the Kinnitty Sessions in their album Lunasa. I love Old Irish and other Celtic music.
6) After the War, Bob Hope saw him perform under his real name, Anthony Benedetto. Hope told him that, no matter how great his talent, his name would hold him back because it was too long for a marquee. And so, Tony Bennett was born. Tell us about a marquee in your town. Is it announcing a movie, play, or concert performance?
Actually, I haven't a clue what is going on here as far as concerts, movies or plays. For many years we went to all three but not anymore. We held season tickets for a live theater, and for the symphony, but those days are gone with the proverbial wind.
7) In 2006, he recorded his Duets album, partnering with a variety of singers he admired. Tony said he enjoyed working with Paul McCartney at London's Abbey Road Studios, where the Beatles created their classic recordings. If you vacationed in London, what would you be sure to visit?
There are several online birders I'd like to meet, and see their favorite spots, and then I'd head straight across the channel to visit the France, Germany and Switzerland.
8) "I've Got Your Number" was performed by Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore on The Dick Van Dyke Show. According to Dick, they were so believable as a married couple that he received glares from a hotel clerk while checking in with his real-life wife, Margie. What TV or movie couple do you feel had "chemistry?"
I find that hilarious! Anyway, I never watched much TV after that show, which I loved. So I didn't get a feel for any other couple in a "on-screen" relationship. I know I'm boring. Sorry, Gal.
9) Special summertime random question: Would you have more fun at a pro baseball game or an art museum exhibit?
Er... fun? at an Art Museum? Well, anywhooo... I would like to go to a ball game, and watch the Padre's play. But the seats would probably put me permanently in a back brace. Lol ... Isn't this one pretty? You should see his other creations. Tres Chic!

I usually do these over several hours, or even days, and the motivation is sort of "Line of Consciousness".
Onward:
1. This morning I saw the Optometrist for the final check-up on my "new" eyes. I can now be released into the Wild again. Yippy Skippy!
2. Yellow is once again bright and beautiful. It is my favorite color, and I sorely missed it. All the yellow things were a muddy sort of tan.
I can't believe how beautiful it is again.
3. I'm reading a lot of fiction, and trying to let the world go by. HaHa as IF! But I am reading some non-aggressive Non-fiction as well, all while keeping a weather EYE on "Putin The Terrible".
There are so many books and so little time!

4. I have to remember to eat more ice cream. Actually it's soy cream, butttt ... what the hay....😅
5. Hubby and Jazzie. In the WayBackMachine. This was taken at Quartzsite Rockhound meet-up out in Arizona. Jazzie was a Teacup Toy Poodle and he was brave as a Bear! In fact we used to call him, JazzBear.

7. I'm so very grateful that DH will keep his eyesight longer than I ever expected he could.
8. I'm thankful for Mark Twain. I'm also thankful that his work still inspires the best in our ironic little minds.
9. I'm very grateful for having Friends in this world, but it's also a world where, if you don't have a friend, you can have a dog who can be your best friend.
10. Fish and Chips at the Point! It's that time again...It's time to go there to get our favorite fish and chips, and then sit and watch the sunset. It's glorious!

11. Yesterday I ordered four new dresses. It was time. I may never be able to sew my own clothes anymore. But I've made Peace with that. I'll just make the quilts and other things, like dolls. I want to make dolls for the hospital and sometimes the Police to give away to little children who have been traumatized. They also need people to Knit TEDDY BEARS for children who are victims of trauma or abuse.
12. I'm happiest when I'm making things, and I so very much need to be happy right now. Putin keeps pushing and pushing the line to a wider war. I need to push that aberration out of my consciousness.
13. I did finish another pair of short fingered gloves to go to the hospital. It's been awhile that I was able to make them as I was still recovering from that terrible fall in the kitchen two years ago. All and all, things are looking up.

Saturday 9: You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To (1943)

Note: I could sing this song when I was 3 years old. Back in Ohio, my Aunties and Mother would sing it, and I sang right along. Everyone sang in my mother's family.
1) In this song, Dinah Shore goes on about listening to the breeze. Is it windy, breezy, or still where you are today? It's been calm and we had some overcast skies and a little fog this AM.
2) The August moon is bright in Dinah's musical fantasy. Let's look at your calendar. Is anything special coming up in August (birthdays, anniversaries, vacation getaways ...)? August is the quietest month usually. Next to nothing happens in it.
3) Dinah was one of TV's pioneers. Her first show was a 15-minute variety show that ran two nights/week in 1951. What's the most recent show you watched? We don't watch any TV shows. But we do watch Netflix and Prime. This is a Netflix one, a Spanish Drama about a mob boss with early onset Alzheimer's. My favorite Spanish Actor is in it.
4) She followed that in 1956 with the Dinah Shore Chevy Show. It was an hour long and sponsored by the car company. At the end of every show Dinah encouraged her viewers to "see the USA in your Chevrolet ..." Today Chevrolets are still the most popular cars manufactured by General Motors. Tell us about your car. My car is a Jeep.
5) From 1970 to 1991, Dinah hosted daytime TV talk shows and found tremendous success, winning 6 Emmy Awards and repeatedly appearing in the Gallup Poll of America's most admired women. Do you remember her?
Yes. I remember her and that little jingle about Chevys.
6) Dinah was such an avid golfer that, in 1972, she founded one of the LPGA's major tournaments. Though now officially titled The Chevron Championship, it's still often referred to as "The Dinah Shore" in her memory. Do you golf? If not, would you like to learn? No, and I actually dislike it. They plant all this yummy grass and then have a fit when the animals from the surrounding areas come and eat it.
7) In 1943, when "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To" was popular, so were tablecloths. It was common to have cotton tablecloths for everyday use, fun and festive ones for 4th of July and Christmas, and linen for formal occasions. Do you use tablecloths in your home? We use placemats unless we are having a big family dinner. Then I put out festive tablecloths.
8) Beatle George Harrison was born in 1943. Which of the Fab Four is your favorite? George Harrison. He was the best musician and innovator. I liked his gentle ways.
9) Random question: Would you rather live on a houseboat or in a trailer? I'd rather live in a motor home. I could do that life style very well. I'm basically a Gypsy at heart. A Nomad if you would.

2. We have cooler weather than most because that’s what July is like in Coastal SoCa. However, just give it a month and it will be blazing . This goes on from the end of July until the middle of October if we are unlucky. And this isn't the year for cooler weather practically anywhere on the sorry little Earth. Whoopie! I can not wait. 🥵😬
3. I’m reading a set of novels set in medieval Europe, and they've made me think, “What would it be like to live in such squalid conditions without the possibility of keeping the kids safe, or even alive.
For my friend Kwizgiver, I'd like to say that I'm a browzer sort of reader. Parts of books float around half read for a month or so. I get bored so easily, OR incensed, and just need to visit other ages and other topics before I tear out any more of my thinning hair.

Through long practice, I've learned to just live in the present. And I've learned to have a lot of "cookies".

Clever Diana.... As to my night shift, yes, and I did work the night shift. And I learned to like it more than the day shift. I was a telephone operator, and you get the most interesting challenges at night. One of mine was to try to get a Spanish speaking drunk fellow to put more coins into the payphone. I was called over by the supervisor, who dropped me into the middle of the transaction that was going nowhere fast. Lol.
4) Diana has five children altogether. There's a 16-year age difference between her oldest daughter, Rhonda, and her youngest son, Evan. Studies have shown that when there's a big gap between siblings, parents consider the older kids "built-in babysitters." In your family, were the older kids ever in charge of the younger ones?
I was the oldest and yes. I was always in charge of my littler sibs when the parentals were both gone.
5) She says her favorite sweet treat is Famous Amos Chocolate Chip Cookies. Do you have a favorite cookie?
Honestly? I never met a cookie that I didn't like.

She was to play a singer who received death threats, and Steve McQueen would portray the man hired to protect her. Scheduling conflicts prevented the movie from being made. It wasn't filmed until 1992, and then with different stars. Without looking it up, can you name stars of The Bodyguard?
I've watched that movie, and loved it, but can't name all the stars except for Kevin Costner.
7) In 1973, when this song was #1, Norman Mailer was atop the best-seller list with his controversial biography of Marilyn Monroe. Do you often read biographies and memoirs?
I do. Right now I'm reading one mystery after the other, but biographies are, well, so delicious.
8) Also in 1973, another Motown singer, Stevie Wonder, was injured in an automobile crash and still has a scar on his nose to show for it. Have you ever been in a car accident?
Three or four. This IS California and everyone, and their dog drives....
9) Random Question: What's the last thing you borrowed or lent?
Generally I don't borrow or lend. A sewing machine I loaned came back all butchered up because the woman I lent it to had a husband who thought he could make it run "better". We are talking a vintage "Singer" machine. Lesson Learned.
I will give things away because I have a spare. Books I will never lend. I've lost some pretty important first editions that way. Satanic Verses was one of them.

1) In this song, Shawn Mendes pleads with the girl he loves to be careful with his heart. Clearly he feels she's more important to him than he is to her. Do you believe that, in every relationship, someone always loves more? Not always, and sometimes it goes back and forth as we learn to trust our partner with our tender, little heart and soul. But having listened to this YouTube, it seems like a cat and mouse game that girl is playing. That's definitely naughty, and not very nice. Just sayin' 💔😈
2) He says that he'd willingly drive through the night just to be near her. Do you enjoy your time behind the wheel? Or do you consider driving necessary but not necessarily pleasurable? I loved driving from the get go. Freeeeeeedommmmm!
3) He acknowledges that she has good intentions, but she hurt him anyway. Can you think of a time when you unintentionally hurt someone's feelings? Yes. My brother's wife at the time. She asked us to stay an extra day so that she and my brother could have all the family over to their house for a barbeque but we just couldn't do it. Hubby had to be at work in the morning, and we were almost 150 miles away from home. So we really had a long drive, and we really had to leave that evening. I could see that she was hurt. I wish we could have stayed because I really liked that cute, lil' gal. But, Alas...
4) Shawn Mendes was a serious skateboarder during his high school years. Crazy Sam admits she's never even been on a skateboard. How about you? Are you more like Shawn or Sam, or are you somewhere in between? By the time that skateboards came into my life, I was in no condition to learn to ride them. They certainly look like fun, though. I can roller skate very well. But I'm definitely not a skateboarder.
5) While in his teens, he taught himself to play guitar while watching YouTube videos. Do you spend a lot of time on YouTube? If yes, what type of videos do you watch most often? Not a lot. But I do watch you tubes, to see if I'll use them for my blog, so it's likely a music or a "how-to" craft video.
However, I will play a video of a group I like, while I'm doing something else like knitting or doing other crafts. I've looked at several guitar lessons on line. But I will never be able to play guitar again after breaking my shoulder, hand and wrist. There's a lot of metal in it, so there's no chance for any heavy metal playing. 😉 Maybe the Uke.... *thinks about it*

7) In 2016, the year this song was popular, Game of Thrones was TV's hottest show. Were you a fan? I've never watched it. Never wanted to. I'm more of a Norse Raider sort of fan. Hubs and I both have some Norse in our backgrounds. He has more.
8) Also in 2016, a German shorthaired pointer won Best in Show at the Westminster Dog Show. Tell us about a dog who holds a special place in your heart. Generally, dogs have been stealing my heart for decades. From the first one, who was a tiny, black Cocker Spaniel when I was Three, to Wolfie who was a sweet and wonderful little Shi-Poo we rescued 15 years ago. or so.. I've lost count of the years. But I'll tell you about the one in my late teen years.
He was a purebred Rough Coated Black and Tan Highland Collie. He was wonderful, and very smart. I trained my dogs, and he was the best trained dog I ever had. I'll never forget any of my dogs but he comes to mind whenever this question arises. We were practically soul mates.
I had to leave him behind when my stupid father threw me out of the house.... long story... drunken useless man.... no father in any sense of the word, and never. At least he didn't kill Shadow, which was one of his "talents". My mother told me that he sold Shadow to a kind family that I liked. They brought him for a visit one day when I went back to get the rest of my things. Shadow ran up to me for a very tearful embrace (on my part) but he was crying, too.
9) Random question: What's the subject line of the top email in your spam folder? That would be this: "New Books Just In - On Sale Today Only" I need to stop getting ebooks because they are already B.A.B.L.E .... sort of like S.A.B.L.E but only for books.
