We Found this gem from a blogger named Dana from the blog "Amid Life Crises". She states that this "started out as Jay doing Savannah's "Questions" meme". She actually wrote some of the questions. But, this is a far as we go. At least we aren't stealing a meme that came from one of our previous meme blogs. The funny thing about last week' meme coming from "Rock ‘n Roll Friday" is how l didn't realize it. Okay, now time for me to shout:

1. You're building your dream house. What's the one thing that this house absolutely, positively MUST HAVE? (other than the obvious basics of course)
My dream house will always be a great, big, one(or two) story Craftsman on a BIG lot near the ocean.  So, a BIG Lot is the one thing.

2. What is your dream car?
I want a Town car with a pop up driver -like the one in "Men in Black2."

3. What is your favorite website that isn't a blog.
YouTube

4. iPhone or Droid, which do you want/have?
I want a new iPhone.  Bigger.

5. When you're feeling down or lonely or just generally out of sorts, what do you do to cheer yourself up?
I eat more chocolate than is good for me.  I can't eat yummy pasta or donuts anymore so their out as favorite comfort foods.

6. Tell me about something or someone that you love that most people seem to hate.
Limburger cheese spread that comes in little jars.  I've always loved it, and so did my mother.

7. What did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be an Artist who painted landscapes, seascapes, and people and made a lot of money.  Then I wanted to teach Geology.

8. Would you go on a reality show if given the chance?
No, mine wouldn't be any fun, and no one would watch it.  It would probably be about how to get rid of crabgrass or other weeds without using herbicide, and there would be a lot of diatribes on how bad those things are for frogs and other living things.  No one is going to listen to a haggy old nag about Monsanto's War on Nature.  There I said it, the name of the Devil.

9. Who was your favorite teacher when you were growing up? (Grade school, Middle School, Jr. High or High School only.)
My High school Math and Spanish teachers.

10. You get one pass to do something illegal or immoral. What are you gonna do?
Put duct tape across a certain person's mouth?  He never stops spewing hate!

11. What were you doing 10 years ago?
Check out the way back machine on this blog.  I was knitting, recovering from having my wrist rebuilt from a crashing fall, and playing with Jazzie.

12. By this time next year, I ...
....plan to keep breathing, have the Manly-Beastly Aran sweater finished, and be making hats, hand warmers, and slippers for Dominican Hospital.

13. What is something that you need to do but you've procrastinated on?
I need to sell of a bunch of machines that I'll never use again.  It's not easy to say goodbye to that part of my metal crafting life.

14. Which fictional, TV show character you would shag anytime?
I once had a shag haircut.  But, from the way the word's used here, I'll have to look  it up as, obviously, the word "shag" has meanings I'm not aware of.  

15. What is your greatest pet peeve?
Nothing peeves me more that bad, indifferent doctors who don't listen properly, and bad healthcare.  You can put that on the *Peeved $ P*ssed Off" list if you want.

16. Tell me about your most recent trip of more than 100 miles?
no, maybe some day...

17. Which do you use more often, the dictionary or the thesaurus?
I have at least thirty thousand words in my head, with their synonyms, but I do have to use the spell checker a LOT now.  I bet all of you have that many or more in your own heads.  

18. Do you have a nickname? What is it?
No one calls me that anymore.  I have a cousin called Daisy Mae, so it was natural for my grandparents to call me Lynnie Mae.  My brother sometimes calls me Lynnie Pool.  But that's only because he then can call my sister Cessie Pool.  My name actually means pool or Lake. 

19. What are you dreading at the moment?
Dread came to visit and lived LARGE with me for five months.  There's not much dread left around here to speak of.    

20. Do you have a meme you think we should steal?  (Yes, an old trick. But c'mon now. I gotta give it a shot. It's a lot harder to find memes now. But it's ok to answer "You're lazy" an all it a day.)
I live LIVE for your meme's.  They are usually a lot of fun.  I was going to quit so I would knit more, spend less time on the computer but there is so much pleasure in reading, commenting and writing these.  Thank you Kwizgiver, and Bud!!!

Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: Jamming (1977)

1) In Jamaica, "jamming" means to celebrate. What's going on in your life today that's worth celebrating?
Today? That's a hard question.  I'm getting the Manly-Beastly sweater knitted, inch by inch.  Some stitches stay "in", some are "frogged", and that some little thing to celebrate.  Knitting is good for the mind and the soul. 

2) The group that became famous as "The Wailers" originally called themselves "The Teenagers." What was trendy when you were a teenager (clothes, music, etc.)? 
Here's a page that is FUN to travel back through as it lets you sort of build a 50's outfit.

For the girls there was some sort of long hairdo that was roll curled all around the edges. In my school it was longer, almost to the waist if your hair grew that long,but  the bangs flip curled to the side, and longer...   

And there were twin set sweaters with circular felt poodle skirts, wide belts and saddle oxfords.  Boys?  D.A. (Duck Ass) haircuts which, of course, the girls eventually "borrowed", and then they were called Brush Ups.  I sewed a lot of dresses in those days.  I still love sewing but it doesn't love me. ;o)

3) Bunny Wailer and Bob Marley were very close. In addition to being bandmates, they were friends in elementary school and later became family (Bunny's dad and Bob's mom had a daughter together). Who has known you the longest?
From school?  My friend Meffie.  She was one grade behind me, an exchange student, and we've known and written to each other for 55 years.  Otherwise my kid sister, with whom I'm still close.  We were in "The Parentine Wars" together, with our brother.  He's a Vietnam vet but doesn't live close by.  
4) Does the person you named in #3, the one who's known you longest, know you best?
No.  She knows a lot, but not nearly as much as Mr. Z does.  He's my soul mate (whether he wants to be or not.  BUHAHAHAHA!)  Just kidding dear!  *Bows head in contrition*
  
5) Bandmate Peter Tosh became an avid unicycle rider. What's your favorite form of exercise? 
I'd now have to say walking from room to room, or around places like the downtown library, a post all on it's own.  
I rode a two wheel bike from the time I was four until the time I fell off one for the second time after my knee operation.  That's what used to be my favorite life-long form of exercise, a bike ride, preferable a long bike ride.  Ocean swimming was a very close second favorite.

6) Bob Marley was known for his signature dreadlocks. When were you last in a stylist’s chair?
I cut my own hair because it's curly and so few stylists can cut it.  I just gave up when I was in my teens and started cutting my own hair.  I used to cut Mr. Z's hair, too, when he didn't just let it got "Native" after he retired.  

7) Marley's charisma is credited for popularizing reggae music the world over. Are you a fan? 
Oh yes, I love Reggae music.  So lovely...... calming.... 



8) Mr. Marley is one of the highest-earning dead celebrities, and manufacturers pay his estate to use his likeness to sell their merchandise. What dead celebrity have you seen recently on a t-shirt, mug, poster, etc.?
None lately, but the last a long time ago and was that picture of Bob Marley.

9) Random question: Have you ever had your palm read? 
Yes, by a very sweet and dear Rock hound friend who didn't know I considered myself to have five children. She said my hand indicated( she counted some little lines on on the palm above the life line) that I had five children.  I told her no, but I considered my younger sister to be one of my children because I was very much involved in her life from the beginning when she was a tiny baby.  I was nearly ten when she was born, and our mother wasn't well.

Music Monday: This is your fight song, all you fellow Scots!

I found this on another blog.  You likely know about these things- following a blog and seeing another blog there, and then yet another blog.

There is no chance that, two days later, I can remember where this beautiful thing was in order to credit the blogger.  That's a break in common decency, blog etiquette, and the old fashioned good manners my mother taught me.  Mea Culpa.

I only remember commenting to the blogger that the cellist looked like my grandmother and great grandmother.  His eyes are not quite as blue as Grandma's.

And, frankly, I'm not sure he's Scottish at all, but my relatives were of Clan McCoy, and great grandmother's family was part of the Highland clearances. At least that part of the mother's family has been here a long time, and they settled in the Cumberland Gap area, moving on later to Pennsylvania or Ohio.  This was according to my mother and grandmother.  She sang like an angel, my grannie.  Sweet, sweet memories....

We Found this gem from a blogger that we stole from once before, Stacy of the 
blog "All Stacy All the Time". 

She states that she stole it from "Lola's Diner". But that's as far as I'll go. Tracing it back further might be crazier than a Trump speech. So as we sub for our current author, Kwizgiver, we will shout:

1. SURFER GIRL : “I have watched you on the shore, standing by the ocean drawer, do you love me do you surfer girl” Were you ever interested in someone (other than a celebrity) who did not return your interest? 
A. Yes. I was.  He was a a Nordic God.  I was a nerdy girl.  Same year, two different worlds.

2. BE TRUE TO YOUR SCHOOL : “So be true to your school now, just like you would for your girl or guy…” Looking back, how do you feel about your high school days? 
A. I've never been back.  That pretty much sums it up.

3. FUN FUN FUN : “…and she’ll have fun fun fun till her daddy takes the T-Bird away…” What was the worst punishment you received as a teenager? 
A.I was punished for being a little girl, shall we say?

But, much, much later,  I was thrown out of the house with all my worldly belongings. It was because I finally defied my drunkard of a paternal unit by not being home on. the. dot.  I'd met DH at that infamous neighborhood party, and we'd gone to a friend's house.
PsychoDad took off and was gone for a week, and my sibs and mother piled my things on the driveway.  I suppose he was out trying to figure out what his next move should be.

Actually it was really a God Send for me, though I did lose my beloved Collie, Shadow.  Shadow escaped the usual punishment for a pet in our house, which was being shot.  Shad was sold but I did get to meet the family who bought him, and he looked well and happy with them.  Shad still loved me so that was good.  Shadow was an Immense and beautiful Irish Collie, a Black and Tan collie.  He talked to me that day with his big, throaty voice.  I'll love him forever, and hope to see him again someday in the By and By.

4. I GET AROUND : “Round round get around, I get around” Where did you go on your last long trip? 
A. Well, I'll tell it like it is...We went to Santa Cruz.  We rushed up to there to be with our dying daughter.  We were 200 miles away when we got the call that she'd died.  We could only stay for a week but we had that week at least.

 5. HELP ME RHONDA : “You gotta help me Rhonda, help me get her off of my mind” What do you do to cheer up after a personal tragedy such as a lost job, power outage or broken relationship? 
A. Wow, we are really into "worst" and so far.
The little stuff I just do not sweat.  The big stuff I just keep breathing in and out and watch a hulluva lot of mindless Netflix cop shows, Nature shows, Water shortage Documentaries, and Alligator Wrestling, worm diggers, you name it.  And I read and read and read.  It gives, I find, ease to my mind, since I cannot drink.  Otherwise I'd do that, too.  I've never smoked pot but I'm now sorely tempted to find some and make brownies just to relieve these terrible feelings of climbing out of a blackened rabbit hole that I woke up in.

 6. CALIFORNIA GIRLS : “I wish they all could be California girls. The west coast has the sunshine and the girls there get so tan, I dig a French bikini on Hawaiian island dolls, by a palm tree in the sand” Where are the best boys found? 
A. Going by the ones I've met, the best men, boys, are Americans. On the whole, I've found this to be true.   It doesn't really matter what color they are, they just are usually kind and nice men.   And a lot of times, not always, they are Marines.  I guess you could include Canadian men in this, too.  They seem to be nice, kind guys.

7. SLOOP JOHN B : “I wanna go home, please let me go home, ya ya. Well this is the worst trip, I’ve ever been on…” What is the worst trip you’ve ever been on? 
A. Worst again. ok.  I'd have to say it was the one where my left knee blew up to the size of a basketball, and I had to drive the little truck out of the desert and home because we couldn't tow it.

That was 300 miles of torture.  Also, trying to get to a rest room at a big gas station on a cane and with a screaming hot, terribly painful knee was .  Then, after years of Hyalgan shots and draining, I got surgery and a brand new knee.

  These aren't my knees.  They came from Pinterest, but they illustrate the problem I was having.

OR, maybe it was the time that we spent a week trying to get the RV fixed in Indio one year.  The garage was Triple A approved and I'll never, EVER, trust their stamp of approval again.  They, the garage, ordered the wrong part, three times!

We were, parked in the RV, right next to a railroad track, and a train lumbered through about dinner time while I was setting out the canned soup special for a hasty dinner.  I thought it was the beginning of an earthquake.  This then happened every four hours until midnight.  These desert trains are hundreds of cars long.

How do people deal with this every single day?

We didn't know the tracks weren't derelict, as so many are out there in the desert.

8. WOULDN’T IT BE NICE : “I guess the more we talk about it, it makes it harder just to live without it, but let’s talk about it…” What is your biggest wish? 
A. I wish  for the master gene (or what ever the hell it is) for cancer being found by someone who wasn't interested in making money off it but who patented it Internationally and Immediately!  Say, someone is Switzerland or something?  Anyway, after securing it from the grasp of BIG FAT PHARMA, they would instantly upload and share the data with like minded scientists, who would then spread it world wide on Smart People social media after patenting it so BIG PHARMA got left OUT. IN. THE. COLD!

This is where you all have to live, and no inside toilet, or internet.,brrrr, and the bus doesn't stop anywhere near here.

9. IN MY ROOM : “There’s a place where I can go and tell my secrets to. In my room. In my room.” What is your favorite thing about your own personal room or space in your home/office? 
A. I like the cork board that is adorned by hearts and my nephews photos.

10. GOD ONLY KNOWS : “You never need to doubt it, I’ll make you so sure about it. God only knows what I feel about you” When was the last time you told a significant other or close relative that you loved them? 
A. Today, this morning,  and then later we had a little tiff over how I leave the charger plugged in all the time.  It's the little things in life.

11. GOOD VIBRATIONS : “My baby has good vibrations, she’s giving me excitations…” When do you get good vibrations? 
A.When?  I get them off and on, some of them, many, are not good ones.  But some of them are Sublime.

12. KOKOMO : “We’ll go to Kokomo. We’ll get there fast and then we’ll take it slow. That’s where I wanna go…” What is your favorite warm weather destination? 
A. Santa Cruz.  Otherwise I live in one already.

13. DO IT AGAIN : “Let’s get back together and do it again…” If you could go back in time and gather up your school friends, what would you do again? 
A. Sorry, I never want to go back again.  I have no interesting in going back to those days.

Saturday9ers gone Surfing, USA...and old trucks

1) When the song was written, "Surf City" was a fictitious town.* Tell us a song that is set in a real place.
A.  New York, Newwww Yawk!

2) In the song, Jan and Dean sing about riding around in a 1934 station wagon, which means the car was 29 years old when the song was recorded. How old is your vehicle?
A. The Jeeply is 12 years old, a mere child-ling.  But the truck, she is 25 years old, a Matron who likes to kick up her heels.


3) Are you good on a surf board?
A. No.  I can get on one and belly it in through the soup.  I can't stand up.  I tried many times.  But a boogie board..  ahhhh! Loads more fun.  Mr. Z surfed.  Hey, it's California, Dudes.  Everybody's gone surfing at least once.  Surf City has nothing on the Break at Mavericks, or WindanSea.

4) When you spend time out in the sun, are you careful about applying sunscreen?  
A. Lately, yes.  But not in the last century, no.  I put it on my little kiddies, though.  When I was spending time at the ocean and bay, swimming, no.  Alas, I haven't been swimming in the ocean lately.

5) Dean's original partner was Arnie Ginsburg. When Dean was drafted into the Army, Arnie didn't feel like waiting so he abandoned show business and went back to college. Today he holds several patents. What is something you wish someone would invent? 
A. A two way radio to Middle Earth?

6) Jan was a perpetual student who juggled college with recording. He not only graduated from UCLA, he completed two years of medical school at the UC Irvine School of Medicine. Have you ever considered going back to school?
A.  Several Times.  Just when I'd get ready to do it, something important changed in my life, and wanting a Bachelor Degree seemed to be the catalyst.  So, as I didn't want anymore surprises, I gave it all up and just improved my sewing, knitting and cooking, and SUV driving.

7) In 1966, Jan was sidelined by a serious car accident. During the years that he was unable to perform, partner Dean became a graphic artist. He designed logos and album covers for Steve Martin, Diana Ross and others. Do you feel you respond most to words, pictures, or music?
 A.  Yes.  How can ANYONE choose?  I keep getting these impossible choices.  I'm sort of an Everything person. Mixed media, you might say.

8) In 1978, CBS made a TV movie about Jan and Dean. If they approached you about a made-for-TV movie of your life, who would you like to play you? 
A. Very Special Agent Anthony Dinozzo (Michael Weatherly).  He'd have to wear a wig and lipstick but wth? I like his style.  His dancing outside of that storm drain was just hilarious!  He plays an idiot but I'm an idiot, too.  I just wish he wasn't gone from the show.

9) Random question:  Growing up, how did you learn about the birds and the bees? (From books/the web, from parents, from your friends...)
I'll tell you the official version.  We all, boys and girls, were told about human sexuality in Six grade sex/ed classes taught by our respective P.E. teachers.  I'm sure that a few of us already knew more than our teachers.

This is odd, because it must be because the surf there is crappy?  Or because of the song?  Idk.  They are crazy.  They did it for the money.  The big boys (and Girls) surf  in Windansea, Santa Cruz and at Mavericks.  And yes, I AM trying to start world war three.  Why do you ask?

Thankful Thursday: Flowers

It's a 100ºF!  But, I'm grateful for the Spring and Summer, and the abundance of flowers.  I want big bouquets of them in my life again.  So that's where most of the flowers pictures on the blog have come from- bouquets of old.

DH was able to bring me a bouquet every Friday, from the farmer's market.  But that Market closed.
So, I have the memories in photos so expect a lot of flower headers!

I'll tell you how we were able to keep most of the flowers fresh for a whole week.  Be sure to prepare the warm mixture just before slicing off about two inches of all the stems in your bouquet.  This allows the stems to be cleared so that they can take up the water into themselves.  They are sort of sealed off when first cut away from the plants.

The Recipe that we used:
 "A simple recipe for homemade floral preservative is: one teaspoon sugar, one teaspoon bleach, two teaspoons lemon juice and one quart lukewarm water. The sugar is food, the bleach disinfects, and the lemon juice acidifies the water and helps the flowers take it up."

(One change.  We used white vinegar in place of lemon juice.)

This technique, with various ingredients, is all over the web now, but I know that the mixture of white vinegar, sugar and bleach, all three in small amounts, with that warm water, really does work!

I thought it would be nice to honor a few of the family pets.

Charlie Mouse,  The greatest little escape artist in the world.  His little sneeze always gave him away.

and so full of fun even though he was very sick his whole life

Music Monday: K.D. Lang sings Neil Young's, "Helpless": A rant, and a documentary, "Inequality for All"

I'm feeling a little lost....



And, I feel like doing something because I don't like feeling helpless.

If you respect all the brave ones, down through the years,  who have fought for our democracy, we have to do something to stop what has been happening.  The Middle Class was nobbled and left to rot.  The rivers of poor wander and go hungry.  Why?  This is the richest country in the WORLD!

This documentary,  "Inequality for All",  could change you, that is if your eyes are wide open.

This economic take over of our Government has to stop.  Eisenhower, no Socialist, warned us a lonnnng time ago.  Remember him?  Dwight D. Eisenhower, one of the Brave.

We need to remind certain people that Money doesn't f**king buy Everything!

We Found this gem  from Paula Kumert of the blog "A Story Teller With a Camera". She states that she stole it from Kelly, but that’s as far as we go. It's like doing magic. You can't intrigue if you explain how it's done. Finding the original author of any meme or survey is too much work for this old blogger. So I'll just yell out:

1. What are your current obsessions?
Reading about the sinking of the Essex Whaler, and tracing all the leads to more information on it.

2. What are you listening to?
A fan in the window

3. Which item from your wardrobe do you wear most often?
One of my nightgowns.  I mean, I wear one of them more hours a day than I get on duds and go out to eat, or something.

4. What are you reading?
The Heart of the Sea by Nathaniel Philbrick.  The book's really much better than the film, which was good enough as movie's go.  However it's not as good as the book!  I've promised myself that I'll never do that again- see a movie without reading the book first.

5. What’s for dinner?
Since this is for Sunday, I know we will have salmon, because we always do.  But we did go to The Fig Tree in Liberty Station on Saturday, and had a delicious early dinner.  The spinach salad was great!  DH had a burger with something called Man Candy ( wild boar bacon), and a sunny side up egg on it.

6. What was the last thing you bought?
Dinner

7. Guilty pleasure?
Hand made ice cream, when I can make it or buy it somewhere. Liberty Station is jammed full of places to get great things to eat.

8. What training did you get and how do you make a living?
I'm retired.  I trained as an artist and a little as a Geologist, wanted to be a special ed teacher and ended up a full time housewife and mother.  I'm glad of my life.  That is to say, I lived, and so many others, like my little brother, didn't get to.

9. If you could go back in time, knowing what you know now, and choose a different career path, what would you train to do?
I'd be an artist, but I'd still want a family.

10. What’s your best time of day?
Evening time, I guess.  I like to sit and watch it grow dark.  I like to see the moon come up.
Believe me, the sun coming up, in summertime anyway, is not that thrilling.
It means it's going to get HOT!

11. Do you like being on a team or are you a solo player?
I like either.  Are you talking about sports?  I like both.

12. What’s your favorite way to create art?
Drawing and Oil painting.

13. Name three items in your refrigerator:
Mozzarella cheese, beer, and peanut butter.

14. Tell us about your first crush:
No. We just covered that ground, and telling it made me tired and gave me a headache.  So, no.

15. The first time that I became a boyfriend/girlfriend was with who, when?
Due to my being a bookish nerd,and a geek, I never had a boyfriend until meeting my beloved Mr. Z, and that happened when I was 19.

16. Do you remember what you did on your first date?  

We went sailing at Newport Beach.  Mr. Z. rented a sailboat (about this size) and we two went sailing.  I loved sailing! I loved Hiking, which this sailor is doing.
At times, I wish we could sell everything and go live on a sailboat.  But we are much too old for that now.  It's just a dream that never quite got done.  But we both wanted to do that, once upon a time.

17. How did you meet your current (or most recent) girlfriend/boyfriend/husband/wife?
At a party.  Everyone already knows how this happened.  I call it "Our Romantic Love at First Sight" story.  Mr. Z. doesn't QUITE remember it that way, but close enough.

18. How did your first romantic relationship end?
Mehwidge!  That's how.



19. Do you remember your first kiss?
Hmmm... not sure.  *taps forehead for a minute*  Nope!  Sorry!

20. What do we still not know about you?
That I'm a spy for the Paraguayan government?  Really, if you don't know something about me by now, I'm not going to tell it.  *wink*

Saturday 9: Sara Smile (1976)

1) This was Hall & Oates' first #1 hit. Can you name another of their popular songs? 

I like this duo but can't remember any other of their songs at the moment.

2) Darryl Hall and Sara Allen were a couple for 30 years, and he wrote this at the beginning of their long relationship. That makes this a very public love letter. Are you good at writing love letters? Would you rather tell the person how you feel, face to face? Or do you let your actions speak louder than your words?
I am good at writing love letters and any sort of letter.  But hardly anyone writes letters anymore.  I would rather tell people how I feel face to face, as long as it's pleasant.  And I'm not sure about actions.  Some actions do speak louder than words, but they can send mixed messages.  It's better to not let them do your talking, me thinks.

3) In the song, Darryl and Sara are waiting for the sunrise. Did you see the sunrise this morning? Or did you sleep in? 
I seldom see a sunrise since I don't go to sleep until 1 or 2 am a lot of the time.  But here's one I did see, and I like it very much.  I'd been up all night, waiting to go to the hospital for an operation.

4) Both Hall & Oates hail from the Philadelphia area. Hall is a native of suburban Pottstown, which was a stop on the Reading/Philadelphia rail line made famous in Monopoly. Do you like playing board games?
I like board games but there isn't much enthusiasm for them nowadays.  I like Parcheesi, checkers, Monopoly, Scrabble, and though I can hardly play at all, Chess.  I can't seem to just heartlessly abandon my little pawns.  I'm always trying to keep them safe.



5) John Oates grew up a few miles away from Pottstown in North Wales. Decades ago, North Wales' biggest employer was a cigar factory. Do you like the smell of a cigar?
Unlit?  They're great smelling.  But don't spark one up around me or I'd call the EPA.  You have been warned......

7) Hall & Oates are currently on tour. Are you seeing/have you seen a concert this summer?
No.  I'm too deaf to enjoy losing the rest of my hearing at big, noisy venues, and they've moved our favorite ones that took place in a sweet, little church to a big, ugly place.  Ugh!

8) Daryl and John have been friends for 50 years, even living together at the beginning of their careers when money was tight. Another successful duo of the rock era, Simon & Garfunkle, also met as teens but they forever seem to be feuding. What do you think makes for a lasting friendship/partnership?
Incredible patience with wackos.  Mr. Z. is incredibly patient.  Hands off all you short shirted young things at the Gym.  You have been warned.

9) Random question:  Are you quick to try new things?

Usually I do but I'm trying something new now, and frankly, I hate it. I'd like to go back three years and tell my daughter that she has all the money in the world for a second opinion.

Ok, more rescue stories but you can handle them,  they have an "awwwwhh" factor of 129,845,876.90.

You can do it!  Trust me.  It's one of those things done for "The Greater Good".

1st of all: Benji's story

Meet the organization that rescued Benji from the streets.  Though I don't think Benji had actually never been in a home before,  he was lost, or maybe just abandoned and living an absolutely miserable existence.  I hope someone has adopted this beautiful little companion dog by now..

Just think of Benji as a white version of Wolfie.  I know the wolf put up a really hardy fight when he was rescued.  .Benji's story is Wolfie's story.



We've often wondered what Wolfie's life in the wild was like, or what he looked like, just before he was rescued off the streets by Animal Control.  He was very ill, nearly hairless from Alopecia, severe flea allergy, and starvation. Thank you's go to Animal Control, in partnership with the San Diego Humane Society who gave him weeks of good care.  THANK YOU, EVERYONE!

Wolfie's still fierce, and he's even feisty at times.  He gets an intense wild look in his eyes and flies around the living room, jumping from the sofa to the chairs like a little mad dog when he comes in from his walks.  Then he snuggles up next to me in the chair.  Wolfie is also long haired and fluffy, so that's why he would have looked just like this bedraggled little fellow in the video when rescued himself.

I am also very thankful that Hope For Paws Rescue is working to save stray dogs that others think of as Mangy Curs.  BLESS YOU!

 I so want a Canon EOS Rebel, but then I'd have to walk more than is good for me.  I still want it.  Yes, when it comes to cameras, I'm definitely materialistic.
The bird pictures are spectacular!

A few days ago, I was watching the birds at the birdbath, and saw this bedraggled youngster hopping about under the geranium patch.  She/he had feathers askew on the right wing, some askew on her head, as though he/she had been either cat caught, or was suffering from window strike.  Since we purposely have grids on all our windows to keep this from happening, I was sure the bird had been cat caught and figured it would eventually die, since most do.  I do not give up with out a fight, so it was time to rescue!

 I chase cats out of my yard all the time but you can't chase them all.  I knew that the parent birds had brought their fledgling here for training, but they were not here anymore.  

So, for three days now I've put out a grain (organic Red Mill, nothing but the best for my baby bird) cereal out on the pavers, with a side of mixed seeds and fruit and nuts crumbled on another one.  The transformation in the bird is spectacular.  She's now chasing away the smaller sparrows until she gets to eat. and flying up to the Cape honeysuckle to clean her bill and be comfortable.  She also scratches around for insects here and there, and takes baths in the birdbath.  One little heart saved, I'd say.

My nickname for my daughter was "Little Bird" so I watch out for all the birds in our garden now with increased diligence.

Knitting report: The sleeve  has been tinked, and a couple more rows added.  Now it's about five, maybe six inches long and so Mr. Z tried it on over his wrist.  It fits well.  I'm chuffed.  And yes, Rho, more markers are working better.  Now to get the concentration and co-operation of "the little grey cells."

Three Large bags of machine knitters yarn plus some
weaver's yarn were free cycled last week.  Yay!

I went to my sister's today, and she was cheerful but fighting her disease all the way.  She is, like Laura, very brave.  We talked about rose care,  traded pictures between phones, and all the Brotherly and Sisterly chit chat.  

My funk meter is stuck at about half a degree below "reacts to stimuli"  So come and limp along with me while I try to force it into the GREEN zone.
