1. If you had to teach something, what would you teach?
Field Geology and Stratigraphy.  I want to be outside and Digging the Weans a jokie book proposal from some long ago Archeologist friends.

2. What would you regret not fully doing, being or having in your life?
Doing?  Too late for doing.  Being?  I would have liked to finish college and had a career that helped pay the bills, and one that served as an example for my daughters, and helped them get the education they deserved.  Having?  Objects?  There is nothing I lack. Nothing... 
 
3. Are you holding onto something that you need to let go of?
Yes, a lot of plastic Flotsam and Jetsam that needs to be dealt with and some doggie toys.  Everything else I have has a purpose.  I've gotten rid of almost everything else that can't be used to make things.
 
4. When you are 80-years-old, what will matter to you the most?
It will matter the most to me that I have the rest of my kids here in the same realm with me, and that my hubby and I can still get around well enough to visit them.  Well, those things and that this criminal enterprise in Washington has been dealt with in a way that it no longer can threaten the very existence of Life on Earth.. Enlightenment for the Masses? 
 
5. When is it time to stop calculating risk and rewards and just do what you know is right?
For myself?  Other than offering a little reward to a child if said child does "such and such?"  
My view is this: It's never time to even start that sort of thing, if people are involved.  And there is always someone else involved. 
If I've ever done anything in my life in a constant manner, I've done what I think and know in my heart is right.  I'm not a calculating person.  And if this sounds high minded or phony, forgive me.  But I'm not a gamer of people or situations, nor a gambler.  I don't calculated friendships or any other human interchange in that way.  What you see is what you get with me.  And now the garrulous old lady will go back to her knitting. ;o)
 
6. How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?
Oh Hun,  I SOOO know how old I am.  My body tells me every morning when I wake up.

7. Would you break the law to save a loved one?
I'm not sure what this means, but I feel that it's my duty to protect anyone who is being falsely accused, and I don't have to be related to them.
 
8. What makes you smile?
Jokes and cartoons, mostly irony, and snark..  Birds, Kittens and Puppies, Colts, cute little kids on Pinterest and Instagram. 

9. When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?
Probably not.  That depends on how much longer I can haul this cranky carcass around.  Because I'll not be doing much more but knitting and sewing for the needy. 
 
10. If you had the opportunity to get a message across to a large group of people, what would your message be?
It isn't Us vs You.  Dems vs Reps....Not in America.  If the people who run the puppets behind the blue curtain have it their way, they can make money on even another civil war, just like they did on the FIRST one....  Think about it.
 
11. If the average human lifespan was 40 years, how would you live your life differently?
I wouldn't have kids.  It wouldn't be fair.
 
12. What do we all have in common besides our genes that makes us human?
Nothing is more important than the Genetic Make up... It defines everything else about us.  
We even share it with our cousins, the greater apes.  We share it on a different level with what we've come to call the "lesser animals".  
But what do we share?  We all love our children.  We all love our families.  We all love our friends.  The odd part is that this "Love of The Familiar" also divides us.  Why? 
 
13. If you could choose one book as a mandatory read for all high school students, which book would you choose?  Ellie Wiesel's book, Open Heart.  I am going to, and though I've not read it, I think it would be a good look at a long life of seeking revenge.  Unfortunately, revenge is not the best thing to seek.  It almost NEVER has a good ending.  In this case, it may have.  My thoughts are still mixed on it. 
 
14. Would you rather have less work or more work you actually enjoy doing?
Right now I'll spring for Less..  I'm tired and need to get some things fixed so that I can do more work in the future.  
 
15. What is important enough to go to war over?
If your country is invaded? Yah.  I'll say that's an important thing to go to war for.  Heck I'd put on the bandoleros and carry bullets to the front if it was an invasion. 
 
16. Which is worse, failing or never trying?
This "old horse" need to be put down.  Okay, how about this scenario?  Failing at something you shouldn't have even tried to do.  That has got to be worse than anything!
 
17. When was the last time you listened to the sound of your own breathing?
Last Night.  It's how I go to sleep.  I concentrate on my breathing while saying "think of nothing" everytime the boogie man tries to grab my toe.
 
18. What’s something you know you do differently than most people?
My whole mental process.  I've never known anyone, other than my daughter Laura, whose thought processing was the same.  I know there are others out there.  Sometimes I meet them on line....

19. What does ‘The American Dream’ mean to you?
Pretty much nothing.  
 
20. Would you rather be a worried genius or a joyful simpleton?I'm already a worried simpleton, so I'm exactly where I want to be, thank you..

Chosen because Monday is April Fool's Day.   

1) As an April Fool's prank, Taco Bell once announced they had purchased The Liberty Bell and renamed it The Taco Liberty Bell. Describe your perfect taco.
That's pretty darn funny.  I can imagine the outrage..  Lol!
My favorite taco is...Home made, with taco shells I fried myself, and with meat, cheese, chopped lettuce and fresh salsa that we made.  There's nothing fresher or better. 

2) Similarly, as an April Fool's prank, the Ford Motor Co. was supposed to wipe out the national deficit by purchasing the naming rites to a beloved monument, renaming it the Ford Lincoln Mercury Memorial. What model car do you drive? 
Ford would probably be out of business if it hadn't bought Toyota when it did.  And that's no fool!
I drive a Jeep Liberty.

3) In 1998, Burger King got in on the April Fool's Day fun by promoting a special "Left-Handed Whopper," designed to be easier for a leftie to hold. Describe your perfect burger.
I'll take that left handled Whopper please.  I don't like burgers.  I know, it's un-American not to.  

4) In 1962, when color TV was still new, a Swedish station pranked viewers by telling them they could convert their black/white sets to color by cutting up a nylon stocking and stretching it across the screen. Of course, in 1962, more women wore nylons and screens were smaller. How big is your TV? Are there any nylon stockings in your home?  
OMG that is helarious!  and Yes, I have old nylon stockings but they are for crafting dolls.  

5) In 1957, the BBC ran an April Fool's story about how the Swiss were enjoying a "bumper spaghetti crop," with spaghetti literally growing on trees. Viewers who called the station, asking how to grow a spaghetti tree of their own, were told to place a sprig of spaghetti in a can of tomato sauce and hope for the best. Have you ever fallen for an April Fool's prank?
I soooo waant a spaghetti tree! Please please please!!  And, Yes, I have been, but only once by DH though neither of us can remember what it was about. Usually,  I'm super hard to fool because it's one of my favorite days of the year!  

6) When Crazy Sam was growing up, her mother would surprise her on April Fool's Day by slipping a rubber worm or plastic spider in her lunch box. When you were in school, did you more frequently brown bag it or buy your lunch in the cafeteria line?
Almost always brown bagged it.  But, I always got an ice cream bar on Friday. My allowance money was doled out that morning.

7) This week's song was an international hit for Sergio Mendes and Brasil 66. Because of the song's bossa nova arrangement, everyone assumed the lead singer, Lani Hall, was Brazilian. She was a folk singer from Chicago. Sergio Mendes discovered her at a charity benefit. Can you think of a time when doing good really paid off for you?
Not like Lani's did!  Kindness is enough of a reward, I think...  yes, I think so. 

8) In 1968, when this record was popular, Pierre Trudeau became Prime Minister of Canada. Today his son holds that office. When did you most recently visit our neighbor to the north?
I've never been to Canada but it's never been off the wish list either.  We thought we'd go all over the half acre once DH retired.  Of Mice and Man. lol

9) Random question: Name three websites you visit every day.
New York Times, Pinterest, and Instagram.  I remember when my mother got to be so poor, she would always copy things out of magazines, by hand and kept them in a folder.  She was a birder, too, and she would have LOVED to be able to go to Pinterest, and Instagram, for craft ideas on Pint,  and to follow birders on the IG.

Sorry to my friends, but... I'm out of cope... I'm finding it extremely difficult to want to run a blog.  Our daughter's death was hard.  The hardest thing I've ever been through.  The fact that others have had this happen, in spades, and come back from it shows me how magnificent what they accomplished is.  I'm not going to be able to do it. 

It's confusing now, this life.  I just want to buy bubble stuff.  Play with little kids and puppies and kittens.  I don't want to hate or be troubled by all the dirty stuff that happens on a tiny ball of rotting rock on the far edge of the Known Universe.  Not anymore......

And then, after this terrible event,  came another stolen election, at a crucial moment in our history when we needed a unifying event.  Instead we got a venal, lurid, version of Richard Nixon.  We got a soul crushing defeat of goodness and reason.  It's cost us so much that most of us still don't understand the depth of this calamity. 

I love music so much, and Saturday 9 meme.  So I'll keep doing those.  And if you leave a comment for me, I'll answer and visit you.  I don't have the energy to do two memes back to back.

Cookie Questions

1. Do you eat Oreos?
Not regularly 

2.  If you eat Oreos, which are your favorite – original, double stuff, golden original, golden double stuff, Oreo brownies, Oreo ice cream?
Home made Oreo Ice Cream

3.  Do you twist your Oreos apart?
Yes, most of the time, if and when I eat them; I just like the cookie parts.

4.  Are you able to pass by a plate of cookies and not take one or are you a bit of a 'Cookie Monster'? 
I like cookies.  But, if there aren't many left, I'll leave them for the others.

5.  Tell us about your favorite cookie. Crunchy, soft, chewy, crumbly, other?
My favorite cookie is a brownie.  And then there are the soft and chewy Oatmeal cookies.

6. Have your tastes changed since you were a kid?
No, except that I don't crave as many sweet things as when I was a kid.

7.  Enquiring minds want to know if you are a dunker and, if so, do you dunk in milk, coffee, or tea?
I'm just not a dunker.

8.  It is that time of year and they are selling them on every corner and in front of every store!  Do you buy Girl Scout cookies and if you do, which is your favorite?  
When our cutie pie little nieces were selling them we bought them - otherwise, no. And I have no favorite.

9.  Raw cookie dough.  Yay or Nay?  
Nay.. It's the raw egg.  Can't handle that anymore.  Too Risky.

10.  Do you like cookies with filling?
Only one.. (Though other people's answers will probably jog my memory.)
My Great Aunt Becky used to make cherry preserves cookies.  Those are the only ones I've ever made on my own.  She and my mother both made them with mother's preserved cherries.  I loved Aunt Becky. She tried to take up the slack, for both me and my mom, when Grandma died way too young.  Same age as Laura.

11.  Do you prefer organic cookies?
Yes.  I prefer everything to be Organic.  Even soap!

12.  Large cookies, or small cookies?
Size doesn't matter, as long as I can have twice as many little ones if they are little.

13.  Do you like familiar flavours in cookies?
I will try any cookie that smells good.  

14.  Do you make your own cookies, or buy them?
Anymore, I don't bake or buy cookies unless we are on a road trip, and we get them at a bakery.  The last time that I baked cookies was in a parking lot at Lake Tahoe, in my rig on a very cold day.  I packaged some up and left them as a present on the door knob of a tiny two person van for some kids who were also traveling and had parked overnight where we were.  

15.  Please tell us something random about your week!! 
I finally mended two sheets, and took more pictures of the backyard bunnies, tried to come to terms with how willfully ignorant people can destroy the only planet with chocolate and baby animals, and fretted a lot about the mess in Washington D.C..   
I thought about those out there giving each other nice parties and presents, and living in complete confidence that they got it right........  I have a lot of other random things to say about this, because I am determined to care about other people's children.  However, I stripped it out.

1) Are you of Irish descent?  Yes and no.. I'm Clan McCoy, actually.  Sort of Brigands of Nordic and Irish blood, or so the History of the Northern Scottish Islands goes.  

2) Legend has it that the heroine of this week's Irish ballad was a real lass. 17th century birth and burial records confirm that a woman with that name lived in Dublin. Can you think of another song about a real historic figure?  Only Jesse James.. Whom I am also related to.  Funny the things you find out through a DNA test.  Dad gum it Ma!  Now the Gov'mint knows this, too.  Gotta Go Git M'Gun!  



3) Molly sold fish from a cart that she wheeled through the streets. What's the last seafood you ate?  
Tuna sandwich, last week.  Toasted.  Lots of onions...Yummy!  

4) The lyrics tell us that, after her death, her ghost continues to wander the streets of Dublin with her wheel barrow. Do you believe in ghosts?  
Yes, I do.  And if you don't, well, we can still be friends.  

5) This week's featured band, The Dubliners, are obviously from Dublin. They were introduced to American audiences on The Ed Sullivan Show. Today, Stephen Colbert tapes his show in The Ed Sullivan Theater. Who hosted the last talk show you watched?   
I really haven't watched network TV for most of my life.  Before there was a time when not much else was going on, and I watched the Ed Sullivan show as well as Johnny Carson.

6) Corned beef and cabbage is a traditional St. Patrick's Day dish. Is it a favorite of yours?
I've honestly never had corned beef in anything but hash.  And, I like hash.  

7) According to Irish legend, leprechauns earned the gold in the pot they guard by repairing shoes. Crazy Sam can't remember the last time she got a pair of shoes repaired. When the heels wear away, she discards the shoes and buys new ones. What about you? Do you get your shoes fixed (either by leprechauns or just by ordinary repairmen)?  I have almost always done.  However, now I wear mostly Tevas and sandal-like mules or plats.  I would get the those last things shrunk or stretched occasionally.  Also, we got our boots fixed until the shoe maker closed up shop.  He was an actual shoe maker.  It's very rare to find one these days.  

8) Do you look good in green, the signature color of St. Patrick's Day?  I don't look good in Kelly greens.  I don't look good in anything but the deepest, darkest of greens.  Yellow is the same.  I can't wear it. I'm too "Asian", I guess.  And I LOVE yellow.

9) Random question: Did you more recently sneeze or cough?  
The question seems REALLY random this week but here goes:  
I sneezed---- a lot.  But, now that the plastic loop is finally out of my tear ducts (that were operated on in November) I think the sneezing will abate.  The doctor showed me the offending little piece of surgical "gear" after she removed it this morning ( I'm writing this on Friday afternoon).  It looked like a tiny key on a circle of wire.  I should have asked to keep it, it was that cute.

Raising my daughters to be brave and caring, and truthful.

Radio GaGa - What do you think of today’s popular music?
I like some of it, and I like Lady Gaga.  
I really liked Justin Timberlake before he got popular, because I love Acoustic guitar, and he can sing and play so well.  I guess I just don't like over-amped music and "BIG Flash", that is, other than the 70 and 80's Rock Bands.  

I Want To Break Free - If you could move to any part of the world, where would you want to live?  Above Point Conception, along the bluffs of the California coast.   

Love Of My Life - Have you ever had your heart broken?
Yes.  Life does that to you, if you live long enough.

Killer Queen - What is your favourite thing about yourself?
I can draw anything?  The thing I don't like is that I did nothing with that talent.  Had I done so, I think that my daughter B, who is an artist with three times my abilities, didn't do much with her art.  Though she does work in CAD, and is incredibly creative.

The Show Must Go On - What is something you will never give up?
Being honest about most things.  I could never tell a little kid they were were dying, say.

Wow, I think I'm channeling Harriet!

1) JT sings that, when the world gets him down, he goes up on the roof to find peace. When you're "feeling tired and beat," what do you do to cheer yourself up?  Take a nap?  
Poke fun at the Pompous mind twisters trying to make the proverbial silk purse out of a sow's ear?  I know that is a bit mangled but, this modern "Roman Circus" is just asking to be lampooned.  Other than that, there's not anything I can do really.  I just get through the days with as much aplomb as can be mustered.  (Ha!  I almost typed mustard!)   

2) He sings that, at night, the stars put on a show for free. Are you economizing, or sticking to a budget?  It's a budget, per se,  but we don't write it all down.  We buy food, gas, and pay utilities and taxes, and donate to causes.  This is a sufficiency of all good things; it may also be a budget.
  
3) In addition to recording this song for his album, Flag, James Taylor surprised the song's composer, and his good friend. Carole King by performing it the night she received her Kennedy Center Honor (see link above). Tell us about a good turn a friend has done for you recently.   They gave me a warning about something to come, and apparently it's soon.

4) James Taylor and Carole King have been good friends for decades, but they have never been romantically involved. Do you have platonic friends of the opposite sex? Actually most of my friends have passed away, male and female, but I had a lot of good, male (and female) friends in the Rockhounds.  They were almost all ten to twenty years older than I am, and so it was sort of a "little sister" or daughterly thing.  Rock Hounds are some of the best folks, outside of Academia, in this world.  Come to think of it, some of them WERE academics.

5) James was born in the Boston hospital where his father worked as a resident physician. Are there any doctors or nurses in your family?  Three of my paternal cousins have doctorates but only one has a Medical degree.  I'm not sure if any are nurses.  One of my twin daughters was trained to be an LPN.  

6) When James was young, his family moved to Chapel Hill, NC. James has vivid memories of how beautiful the area was in all four seasons. What's your favorite time of year?  I like the Wet Season.  We have weather here that could be called, "The Dry" and "The Wet", as they do in Australia.  We don't really have much of a winter, though sometimes we get snow in our mountains.  So, to answer the question,  I like our Winter/Spring season the best.

7) In 1979, when this recording was popular, ESPN launched. Do you often watch that cable sports channel? Moi?  Buhahahahaha!

8)  Also in 1979, the Voyager spacecraft sent photos back to earth that revealed Jupiter's rings. Without looking it up, can you name all the planets in our solar system?  Yes.  I'm pretty down with the half a million (teasing) moons out there circling them, too.  Do you know Earth has two moons?  They are just afraid to tell us because they just detected it. After all that money and time!   ;o)

9) Random question: Our Saturday 9 Wizards give you a choice -- you can be 20 years old and gorgeous, 30 years old and brilliant, or 40 years old and rich. Which do you choose?  
These Saturday 9 Wizards really have a wicked witch side, too, don't they?  
I want it ALL!   I want to be forever young, rich, brilliant and Gorgeous.  Actually I really want to be a Guardian Angel who can spell any word in any language but that's not a choice, is it?

My great grandparents and even my grandparents used to come and go across this border most of their lives.   Some of my second cousins and great uncles also did this...  The Border divided their lands, meaning the Puebloean and other Border tribal lands.  I know this from talking to my Paternal Grandmother.

I'd love to put flowers on the grave of James Madison, as a tribute to him, as well as for his part in insuring that The People have a chance to not be run over by any branch of Government.

I think the horde of invaders from Across the Sea would be, by now, a little more contrite about messing with Ancient Cultures, but apparently the Trumpian Base thinks nothing of this injustice.

2. If you had to enter a competition for the "Most Uselessly Unique Talent," what would your talent be?  I was going to say, Tuvan Throat singing.. but i'm sadly out of practice.. so.. *pass*.

3. When it might hurt their feelings, how do you feel about telling your friends the truth?
I will only tell them the truth if they ask a direct question, and if they can do it before I see it coming...  "Oh look, A Llama!"



4. Peanut or plain?
M&M's?  Plain. 

5. Is there someone you would like to take your place in life for one day? Who and why? 
Mr. Z.  I'd like him to experience the things I can only tell him about.

6. Who was your favorite teacher and why?
Mr. B.  He did his best to show me that there was a life for me after Psychotic parental abuse.

7. What do you think is the ugliest thing or event on Earth?
The slaughter of dogs and cats in the orient for Meat.  And, before anyone thinks it's a two faced thinga, I must say I don't like what the West does to other animals very much either.

8. What is your least favorite of your personality traits or quirks?
I don't like seeing some things with a clarity that beggars description and then being able to do absolutely nothing about them.  It's a very helpless feeling.  I don't like feeling helpless.  See #6.

9. I wish I could see into Heaven because it would be nice to see if such a paradise exists.

10. Tell us your favorite children's story.
If I had one, it's lost in the mists of time...sorry.

11. Explain how to play your favorite game.
I love Acey - Duecey..  It's like backgammon but we played with nuts and washers.

12. What do you keep in the trunk of your car?
😎 Our car doesn't have a trunk.  We do keep an blanket and a clear plastic flip top box of picnic supplies in the back of the jeep, and a couple of chairs.  The way things are looking I thought we might pack up some survival food ala the infamous Pinterest how to's. lol

13. Tell us about your favorite way to get lost in a simple activity — running, chopping vegetables, folding laundry, whatever. What’s it like when you’re in "the zone"?
I'm never Zoned.  See #6.  It's dangerous to be Zoned.  Well, maybe knitting.  Hmmm.. I do have to knit on smaller needles than normal....  OK... Knitting does it.  I can get zoned when Knitting.  I'm what's known as a loose knitter.

14. What’s your dream tourist destination — either a place you’ve been and loved, or a place you’d love to visit? What about it speaks to you?
Forget visit. I want to live there!   Big Sur.  I want to live and experience the community there.  The only other place I could actually live would be along the coast above Santa Cruz near Glass Beach. 

15. What parts of nature do you like best?
Oceans and Mountains. and the amazing California Deserts....Equally... to be in - in season.

16. What kind of program do you enjoy most on TV--detective shows, comedies, game shows--and why?  I like comedies.  And then next to that, I like detective shows.  I've never willingly watched a game show.  I have nothing against them but they are sort of watching, say, Golf. 

17. Do you know any professional athletes?
Yes.  
18. What will the next must-have technological innovation be? Jetpacks? Hoverboards? Wind-powered calculators?
Anything that has a liability clause on the box is not going to make it.  So, I'd go with wind/solar powered calculators and emergency lights.

19. Have you ever been the victim of a crime?
 Yes

20. What if you woke up tomorrow with the ability to understand animals. What do you think you’d hear from them?
Everyone can "read" animals.  We are animals.  One of our inborn instincts is an awareness far beyond the "normal" - if we learn to truly listen to the other Earthlings.  The Buddhists are ON to something here....

21.What is something that makes you melancholy?
Sad songs.

1) What are your plans for this Saturday morning?
I plan to eat breakfast.  And also, I'll do the crosswords with Mr. Z.

2) In this song, a man sings of going away for the day with a friend. Where did you go on your last day trip?
We spent Christmas Eve at our niece's house, with her sweet family and others.

3) The lyrics say, "we will remember long after Saturday's gone." What's something you've done recently that you predict you'll remember for a long time to come?
I'm fast approaching 77, so there isn't anything I'M going to remember for very long. lol

4) This song was the Oscar-nominated theme from the movie The Sterile Cuckoo. What's the first movie song that pops into your head?
"Fair Thee Well" ... it was used in "Fly Away Home".  That song haunts me...makes me tear up if ever I should hear it.  Mary Black sings it...It's actually a folk song....

5) In the movie, Liza Minnelli played Mary Ann Adams, an eccentric girl everyone called "Pookie." Have you ever been known by a memorable nickname? Who gave it to you?
My brother calls me LyniePoo.  This is because I think he delighted in calling our younger sister, CessiePoo.  My daughter Bee was once called Pookie...

6) Today's group began their career as The Grads. Recording artist/producer Herb Alpert liked their sound but hated their name. Alpert picked "sandpiper" at random out of the dictionary. Do you still have and use a bound dictionary? Or do you rely on the internet for word searches and spelling?
What's wrong with, The Grads"?  Corporate types, who can EVER understand why they do what they do.....Anyway... the question at hand...
I still use Dictionaries.  I want to know the etymology of words I use, and there's no better source than a dictionary.  But, more and more,  I find that I'll use internet auto correct which I feel is a frienemy.  Heehee....

7) The biggest news story of 1969, the year this song was popular, was one of the biggest news stories of all time. On July 20, Neil Armstrong stepped foot on the moon. Other than the moon landing, what's the most consequential event that you've seen in your lifetime. How do you feel it changed America, and the world?
The murder of John F. Kennedy.  It changed the course of our country and destroyed our reputation as a fair player in International Politics, not to put too fine a point on it.  The impact of losing his fine mind and dedication to the Country has stayed with us.

8)1969 was a big year for music festivals, with Atlanta, Toronto and Woodstock all holding famous fests. Have you visited Georgia, Ontario or New York (state)? 
Since I've been an adult, I haven't ventured past the edges of the Western States.  

9) Random question -- According to some plant enthusiasts, house plants do better when they're spoken to. Do you talk to your plants?

I've seen the experiments with plants, as many as have been released.  And, yes, I talk to them.  They have a consciousness we don't appreciate or even acknowledge.  I hope the next generations learn to appreciate the amazing flow of awareness that inhabits every life form. and which imbues everything that exists with awareness and spirit, if you will.  
Man is not the end all and be all of this Universe.  The Native Americans understood this, as do other so called "Primitives".  
I hope we westerners get as wise as we pride ourselves in being, some day.
