Lord Above, I am so grateful for cartoonists!  They make life more bearable.  Well, I leave political ones in my town out.  I must say, some of them just make life harder to deal with! 

We are getting some clouds from up north.  Alas, no rain is in the forecast for the next week - just humidity.

California, the New Florida!

I'm going to read all my blogs and start to decorate eggs.  Some are shells that will get more extensive attention for a new Easter Wreath.  I'm going to make a re-cycled egg shell wreath because I am not willing to support the plastic industry in China.  Bless their hearts, this is how they were made in the olden days.

Here is an old idea from Heaven Knows Where for a roll of TP and an empty tissue box just too pretty to recycle in the bin.

Crack open the side of an pretty looking (but empty) small-sized  box of tissue, just as it is below.   Taking a roll of TP, pull out the cardboard roll inside it.. Go ahead, just dig it out of there by crumpling it in on itself.  It's easy.  The tag of paper that comes out of it now gets pushed out the top of the box, where it used to emit facial tissue:

As you push the TP inside, make sure to pull the center pulled part out the top of the box.

It looks too plump but believe me, the tissue will continue to collapse smaller as you work on finishing the project.  It will fit nicely.

Now, just seal up the side you opened with some magic mending tape, and/or some little rolls of the same stuff, and you have a nice, small box of tissue way cheaper than the real thing; I use them for those weepy movies eyes, or fingernail polish removals jobs, or small jobs of any kind (teeny kid nose wipes, corners of Wolfie's eyes, etc).

This is an old idea that I claim no credit for, but my sister happened to have this lovely little box sitting on her counter ready for the re-cycle bin, so I UP-cycled it with this trick.  She is saving them for me now so I can make a few more for other places "en la Casa."

Friday Fill-ins

1. If I could go anywhere on a road trip, I'd go to stay in Santa Cruz.  And after a bit, DH, Wolfie and I would go North from there to cross the border with Canada, stopping along the way to visit all our friends, and then we'd go over to the Canadian Rockies and travel all the way to Ontario visiting all the Canadian friends along the way.  Then we'd travel back across the border, down across the whole upper tier of the States and visit friends along the way there, too. After that, we'd go South to visit friends all over the place including those in Texas and Arizona, as well as to go see the Hopi lands again.  From there we would go back to the coast to Santa Cruz, but go through Reno so I could visit my friend there.  We would then go see an old  friend in Sacramento.  After all that travelling, we would go stay in Santa Cruz for a good lonnnng time, then go home, maybe.  There it is, my perfect road trip.

2.  Why a body can start attacking and destroying itself is something I don't understand.

3. Easter makes me think of the happiness of having little kids around.

4. Meditation is the best way to relax!

5. It looks like Spring has finally arrived, and Yay! for that!

6. An apple is one of my favorite healthy snacks.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to Movie Night (Yay!), tomorrow my plans include dyeing Easter Eggs just for the fun of it.  Also, I'm going to be knitting, knitting, knitting and maybe going to shop a little for something I need to make (want to make) and Sunday, I want to think about what this holiday means to me as a Quaker!  I must say, that it mostly means Hope for the Future to me.

Now is the Time

I haven't forgotten, nor will I ever be able to.  I'm going to stand with the President on this one.  Frankly, I don't believe that police officers should have to face so many guns.  I'm not talking about law abiding people who possess them.  I'm talking about criminals, who should not.

I'm old enough to remember that the Bobbies in England did not have to carry guns.  No one DARED to shoot a Bobbie.  This is no longer true. READ about it here.

Some Lost Comments

To AdrienneV who suggested that I use an abs belt, thank you.  I actually can't use anything like that because my back is slowly collapsing.  Also, thank you for your suggestion of not going at it so hard at the gym.  I am going to have to pace myself carefully because my hands are, with my eyes, very important to my ability to craft.  I've made things all my life and don't want to have to give up just yet.  So your suggestion is well received.  Thank you! :-)

To Anon, who posted about the site, My Brown Child .  I want to say thank you for reading my blog, and I love your site.  Even though it is not lately updated I think it is such a fine site that I'm posting it here for others to see.  Thank you for your visit. :-)

I am so very thankful for Arnica Montana, and for being able to eat everyday, have clean water running out of a faucet (inside the house), for having a good roof over my head, and living with a loveable someone who is as handy with tools as I am.  

Here is my next wood project; I want to make  ONE OF THESE.  They are very cool for holding onto a tricky yarn ball and keeping it from rolling all over the half acre.   I have the wooden part, we just need to sprint on over to Bed Bath and Beyond and buy a fixture.  This is something I can actually make myself except if my hands start bucking and kicking while I try to hold onto a tool.  Lately they have been behaving badly when I try to knit, hold the metal bar parts on my favorite weight training machines, and even close the Jeep door.  Anica Montana helps out some.

Knitting report:  Yesterday, I was rolling along well with the mitt, and decided to take it with me when I went to see my sister.  While knitting the second row of the pattern, "Mon Dieu"!  A loop where none should exist brought everything to a screeching halt.  Today, later on, I will pick my way back to it, and solve this problem at a time when my mind is clear and there are no distractions.

Tuesday Tails, New blog, Garden and Torts. This and That

Sometimes these posts are going to be short, and they always will be random.  Whatever hits my eye will go up here!

I've just found an amazingly adorable little dog named Thistle, on A Striped Armchair.  When you see Thistle, you will understand how perfect the name is for him/her.  The blogger owner is a very good writer who also reads, a lot. (Well, of course!) She also does very good reviews of books she's read.

I just found her blog so am going to put it on "Some of my Favorite Blogs" so as not to lose it!  You can find it there, probably near the top of the new Reader's List.  (in a couple of days)

Garden and Torts Report:  The early spring garden is rampant with multicolored greens, just glorious and lush!  Outside of the garden, this is the best time for viewing hillsides and the verges of roadsides in California.  It's the Green season of our state's famous epithet, "Green and Gold". The "Gold" Season is every other time, when the State pyromaniacs try to burn everything down.

The tortoises are out and about, taken from their winter boxes and soaked very well last weekend.  When I was filling the birdbath shell, Poko Ono, the Mama, came to me for a big muddy drink of water from the hose.  This is the time of year that the wild Tortoises will all pile into any muddy water hole made available by abundant rains of late winter and early spring.  They soak and drink and soak and drink until they have replenished the fluids from their winter hibernation.

You will love THIS PAGE with many pictures of California Desert Tortoises in the wild.  Because of a disease, young urban raised tortoises cannot be released into the wild, and wild ones should never be brought into captivity.  It's against the law for very good reasons.  Two of ours are very old, and I think they have enjoyed their lives.  We certainly have enjoyed sharing life with them.

Post Earth Hour Night.

Sorry, there is no Sunday Stealing this time.  Dear Mr. Lance is recovering and needs to rest, as he said on his blog.  I hope that he is up and well, and "motorvating" around very soon!

I do have a small Earth Hour Report with one post-day photo of the dusty mantel candlestick, and the failed candle.  I think it's failure is particularily interesting because when I was doing lost wax casting, I would use candle drips for interesting Accidental wax forms to invest in the plaster.  If you do lost wax casting, remember to look everywhere for "investment" opportunities!

We put our computers to sleep and the lights out at 8:30 last night and kept them out for a little over an hour.  It was fun to remember the Big Black Out of a couple of summers ago, when some unfortunate Edison (or was it SDG&E?) employee threw a very big switch either off or on, I can't remember.  This sent the bottom Quarter of Southern California into darkness.  Well, it sent it into non-electrified status as it was in the afternoon.  Except for the big inconvenience to businesses and such, it was fun to be off the grid for several hours.  Peaceful, you know?

I see I'm telling my life story here, too.  Boy are these things long! Somehow I must have missed 76 through 100 so I'll do that  first:

78.  Do you prefer Disney or Warner.  Actually I like Dreamworks the best. They have the best animators!

77. What is the first animal you would run to see if you went to the zoo?  I like the Lemurs.

78. Would you consider yourself to be romantic?  Yes, I want to live with the Elves, in the trees, and be in Legolas' Band of Archers.

79. If the earth stopped rotating would we all fly off?  I hope so!  I like to believe the Universe has a few immutable laws in place that men can't mess up.

82. If you had to choose would you live on the equator or at the North Pole?  Equator.  The food grows, usually, on trees there, and clothing really is optional.

83. Would you rather give up listening to music or watching television? TV.  I feel that Commercial TV is a worthless time waster.

84. What do you think makes someone a hero?  I think heroes are not afraid to die. They are selflessly brave, and have the willingness to give up their own lives to save other lives, or they may also be people who will not be silent, even while risking their lives, when they know something is so wrong that it needs to be changed.  They do this without expecting rewards and while knowing it means trauma for them personally. 

85. What cartoon would you like to be a character in?  Animated?  I'd like to be Merida, in "Brave".  Print?  I'd like to be the pie in Bizarro, or maybe the firecracker, or "Doozy" in Mutts.

86. Name one thing that turns your stomach:  Black eyed peas.  I can't stand the smell of them cooking.

87. What was the last thing you paid for?  I bought a half dozen cookies from a bakery.

88. Are you a coupon clipper? Yes and no.  No, I can't eat the foods that coupons are for.  But I'll use coupons that are for shoes, or clothing, or maybe a dinner out.

90. Which would you rather take as a gym class...dancing, sailing, karate, or bowling?  Sailing!  I love sailing.  I've done everything else, save karate.  That would be fun, too.

What this means is they stand in a little tube and their molecules are deconstructed and sent to another tube somewhere else where they are reassembled. Only problem is when the molecules are deconstructed the person is dead. When they are put back together it is only a clone that has all the dead person's memories. Is the person who gets beamed the same person on both ends?  Obviously not.

92. What insects are you afraid of?   I'm not afraid of insects but then I don't live in Africa or Australia.  I'm allergic to spider bites but I actually like spiders.

93. If you could print any phrase on a T-shirt, what would it say?  "Forests Forever!"

94. What's the most eccentric thing you have ever worn?  Bobble bee antennae at the state fair.  Or maybe my tie dye harem pants. hmm?  Thinking......

95. If you could pick one food that you could eat all you wanted but it would have no effect on how much you weigh, what food would it be?  Smooth skinned Organic Navel Oranges.  I wish I had a magic tree, so I could eat them every day.

What are your parents interested in?   Mother was a Farmer and master gardener and hand embroider.  She was also a good seamstress before she hurt her hand.  As a farmer, she could have fed an army off her small farm - well, a small army.  The paternal unit was a very smart man, a good General Contractor back in the day.  He also studied for the Law, and was going to be an attorney but he was not a wise man and blew his chances.  He spoke five languages, and read four.  Such an idiot, and mean as a snake to his family.

Have you ever caught an insect and kept it as a pet?  With my mother, I used to keep Mantis egg pods for the fun of seeing them hatch out and be so tiny, then we'd let them go in the garden right away.  For a little while, for some reason, I loved stink bugs.  I think it was the size of them that enchanted me.

Have you ever caught and tamed a wild animal?  I have caught and tamed a field mouse as well as a cotton tailed rabbit.  My mouse would get out but always came when I called her.  The kind vet I took my rabbit to convinced me to release Cotton after removing a very big parasite from the rabbit's belly.  I left food out for him but he knew what to do as soon as I let him go in the field.  I kept him until he healed.  I caught a hummingbird, and, luckily, the poor little thing got away from me.

98. What is more helpful to you, wishes or plans?  Plans after wishing works best.  Few wishes come true without some work, and I'm very old so, believe me, I know this from doing it the hard way.  Broken Hearts come from it, that sort of thing.  I once wished for a horse so hard one year that I built a corral for it.  I didn't get to keep my Sonny, but only got to ride him up the mountain trails one time.  Sonny was a Medicine Hat Mustang. 

Psycho Dad, though he had taken me out to see Sonny on his own volition- a friend of his owned Sonny - didn't approve once he saw how much I liked Sonny, and no one goes against a Psycho.  Sonny was big (17.5 hands), and he was beautiful;  he was a calm and gentle gelding.  We were instant friends and we"clicked".  Dad saw that, and since he lived to hurt people, he wouldn't buy Sonny.  Dad was a born psychological killer.

99. When do you feel your life energy the strongest?  In the afternoon and at night, usually late.

100. You are spending the night alone in the woods and may bring only 3 items with you.  No one with a brain only takes three items, you  need to take a sleeping bag and water, too.  I'd also take a home made fire starter kit, a cycling tent, and a big thermos of hot soup.  That's five items.

123. Would you rather have an indoor Jacuzzi or an outdoor pool? I would rather have an indoor Jacuzzi. One of the bigger ones.

124. What things are you interested in that you study or read about on your own?  Economics, History, Taoism, Tibetan Buddhism, Astrophysics, Philosophy, Birds, Animal Behavior..

125. Would you consider yourself to be intelligent?   Not in traditional ways.  I'm the least intelligent person in my nuclear family.

126. Would you consider yourself to be wise? Somewhat, but no where where I wanted to be.  Western Society doesn't really support having true wisdom.   Western Society has a dulling affect on Wisdom.

128. Have you ever spoken to a homeless person?  Many people, many times.  I did outreach work.  They are people, like everyone else, but they have fallen through the cracks in a society that considers them to be losers, which they aren't.

129. Would you ever creep into the subway tunnels to go exploring? I'm nowhere near a subway but I used to go down old gold mines.  See, not wise at all.

If you could add 70 years to your life but only by making some random person die 70 years sooner would you?   No, I can't imagine being so selfish, and besides, I don't want to live that long much longer.  Everyone I am close to and love would be dead.  It would be a foolish thing for me to do for many reasons.  For instance, someone else would have to take care of me for the last 100 years.

Can you finish any of the following lyrics?  If those are real lyrics, no.  If you want me to make up songs, the lyrics are usually secondary to the song when I make them up.  We played this game you see.  Someone would hum a tune, or play it on a guitar, and we'd take turn making up the lyrics.

140. What could a member of the opposite sex do to impress you?  Bravery, kindness, generosity, and good sense of humor are the attributes that impress me in males.  Found him!

141. About how many emails do you get a day? Maybe 20?  I don't count them.

A.How many of those emails are junk mail?  I don't see junk mail.  It gets flicked by my filters.

B. How many of them are forwards? Maybe one a day but not every day.

142. What's your favorite thing to do online besides write in your diary and hang out at this site?  I read other blogs, play games, read and answer emails, visit craft forums.

Do you believe the stories about planes, boats and people mysteriously disappearing into the Bermuda triangle?  I've heard all the stories, and I have no doubt that some people disappeared there but isn't it true that people disappear between Islands and off shore in other places?  I'm not sure what to believe.

153. Who are you the most jealous of?  I'm sort of jealous of  the people who are able afford to send their children to any schools that they wanted to, or give them money to buy houses.

154. What is the happiest way you can start your day?  Waking up well, and out of any pain, and feeling that my "thank you's" for it go to a Supreme Being who cares.

155. Do you ever have moments where you feel like everything is all right in the world?  Not anymore I don't.

156. Who thinks that you are offensive?  That's hard to say.  People get offended at the slightest things, like you not agreeing with them politically, or that you let your dog beg from the table, or God knows what else.

157. If you had to teach a class in something, what would you be able to teach people? How to draw, objects and people.  It's mostly training people to be patient with themselves, training the eye to really see, and training the brain to control the hand properly.  I've enjoyed teaching kids to draw.  They are easier to teach than adults who really are afraid to appear incapable.

158. Have you ever had a spiritual experience (an experience that cannot be explained by science)? Yes.

159. Do you believe that this experience was truly mystical or do you think there is some scientific explanation for it, only you don't know what it is?  There is no way science can explain it.  I'm very rational and this has no explanation in science.

160. Do you get offended easily? No, I try to problem solve, so that things can be worked out.  I believe, in my heart, that we are all brothers and sisters, and we shouldn't fight or take things away from each other.

Would you still love and stay with your significant other if he or she had to have a breast or testicle removed?  So, right in the next question you are asking me to be offended?  lol.  Ok. the very definition of love, is that you sacrifice your wants for the common good of a partnership,in love, witnessed by friends and family.  I would not leave my SO for any reason.

162. Do you believe in fate or free will?  Fate and free will are not really mutually exclusive.  Free will is the way we handle things after Fate has dropped an egg on our heads.  What sort of stuff we are are made of is revealed by how we handle this problem.

163. Do you believe that only boring people get bored?  No.  Highly intelligent people get bored and they have very active minds.  Boredom can also be a disguise for depression.

164. Can life change or are we all stuck in vain?  Life changes all the time.  We react or maybe plan a little but when life changes we adapt.  There isn't anything else to do, and it is so commonplace a situation that we like to talk with others and find out how they would handle things.  These discussions helps us handle our own changes, yes?

165. What changes are you afraid of?  I'm afraid of changes in my eyesight.   I am afraid of the loss of pets, of family or friends, or friends of friends.

166. Are you a day person or nocturnal?  I'm half and half on this.

167. What one CD could you listen to for an entire week (no mixed CD’s, it must be an album)? IZ. Any of his Hawaiian Albums.

168. Which is worse, working in retail, food service, or an office?  I haven't worked in an office, and I've never worked in food service so don't know about that, either.  But retail is a killer.  I love customers and like to help them but oh my poor feet!  How do people do this job all the time?

169. What's the coolest job you ever had?  Working as a teacher's aid.  That was with kids and very fun.
170. What is one central idea that your thoughts seem to come back to?  Indra's net.

171. Have you ever wanted to be an actor/tress?  Yes, when I played a witch in a play in seventh grade; it was so much fun!

172. If you had the power to control one person and make this person do anything you wanted for a whole day, who would you pick and what would they do?  I'd pick Dick Cheney, and I would make him tell the truth about everything I asked him about, in public.

173. What star sign are you and what is your sign like?  Since the signs have moved retro grade, and probably mean nothing, I can't say.  An archer?  I like that one, and then there is the Chinese symbols.  hmm?

174. Did the Blair Witch Project scare you?  Yes, I thought it was real for half the film. lol

175. Are you in constant fear of death?  No.  I'm too fatalistic to worry about death, to be honest.

176. Does fear of death keep you from building a life?  No.

177. Do you like all your movies to be in wide-screen?  I don't like distortion so no.

178. Are you a fan of any comic books?  Sadly, I gave them up once I moved away from my cousins.

179. At what age did you attend your first funeral?  In my 50's. My mother didn't have a funeral.

190. Do you think the Lord of the Rings movies are true to the books or did Hollywood change the story too much?  I didn't like the book but I love Orlando Bloom, so liked the movie because of him, mostly.  I love archers generally, and particularly love the idea of living in trees with elves.
 
191. When you see a stranger on the street does your first reaction lean towards thinking of this person as a potential friend or as a potential threat?  I think "friend".  Maybe not in Jamaica, or New york City, mind...

Is it natural for human beings to fear and distrust each other, or is it cultural?  Groups, or tribes, always vie for space and resources.  All we have to look at (and seldom do in our ego-centric Western way) is the tribes of Europe before the Roman tribe got so powerful.  There  is also the English/Spanish expansionism to world domination not long after we all agreed that the world wasn't flat.  Also, there is the Han of China, and the Lakota of North America, or the Navajo as examples.   I think the people they all targeted had a lot to fear and history proved them right.  I think there is some truth to cultural bias simply because it's ingrained in our psyche, by history, to fear a representative of a different tribe.

193. What do you really want to buy?  A little house in Santa Cruz with a great big yard.

194. You have to choose. Would you be happier marrying someone rich for their money or living in the streets and subway tunnels with someone you love?  I could live in a tent with the ones I love.  They've always known this.

196. Do you think it’s odd that Americans have freedom of religion and yet call themselves 'one nation under god'?  I think "under god" was something added later to appease voters of a certain segment.  So that's why it sounds odd.  I agree that it's odd.

197. In what sense are you a minority? I am not "all white" but most people don't see this.  I'm a good part Native American but look white, only a tiny bit yellow, not pink or brownish.

198. Are you anti social? No, because I truly love people.

199. Do you photograph well?   Generally no, I don't.  There's a few good pictures of me, though.

Do you think that human beings would survive through a nuclear winter?  No, and most other life would be gone, too.  If any survived it would most likely be the people least worthy to do so, meaning, bluntly, those who had planned to do it, and therefore had vital stockpiles in safe places underground.

1. The wind blew wildly and  drove some water in through the roof that "will never leak".

2.  Coming home today and meeting Mr.Z and Wolfie   out for a walk up the hill made me feel warm and happy all over.

3. The smell of  Sage  makes me  think of camping out at Big Rocks, during our Thanksgiving trip with the DDs and Timmy  one year to Joshua Tree National Monument.  TheDD's made Sage gravy, Red and green tamales, all of which were very tasty!

4. When I am feeling lazy I  first paint my toe and finger nails, grab my knitting and a piece of fruit (to eat for lunch), and watch nonstop Hercule Poirot on Netlix while knitting.

5. Brilliant  deep sea blue green is my favorite color - like the color that shows behind the wave when it breaks.

6. The door creaked a bit ago, and lazy me was joined by a little black dog that came in.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to   knitting, and movie night, tomorrow my plans include  sewing something, anything!, that can get my sewing mojo back to me,  and Sunday, I want to rest a bit, and then start a necklace for a guy, and make a small box for like my sister made for storing tiny, bit'o'nothing earrings!  That's what we call the earrings we make that are really small.

What I've been up to:

I went to see my sister's Wednesday, and we talked about DH and I helping her more. So,it looks like that's what we'll be doing. She needs to rest her back more so it can heal. She's willing to let us take over some of the jobs she's been trying to keep up with but that hurt her.

Over tea and cookies, we two also talked about turning sows ears into silk purses, and other little "tromploi" crafts that are super cheap, and give gorgeous results. We also discussed ceiling joists and rafter construction versus trusses, and ran through the secrets of bearing walls and whether some of hers were, or if the interior walls could be moved or not. One thing we learned, as kids, was how to think like builders.

We talked about the new Pope and how much we liked him, and wished him well. We would like him to be more progressive, but he's not probably going to be that. I'd been hoping for Bishop TuTu, you see.

Grace and tender mercies Thursday

I wasn't going to post at all today for Thankful Thursday but I just got done with three days of disheartening knitting angst because I just cannot read a simple knitting pattern anymore!  After struggling with it for yet another hour this morning, the light bulb finally came on. (The sun came out, the birds started singing, and a rainbow appeared as the Upstairs Choir sang Hallelujah!!!)

 I'd been reading a K2 psso as if it were a K2Tog/psso.   Please, don't ask how it could happen.  I just don't know.  I could blame major surgery from a year and a half ago, right?  Lol

Anyway, what I'm thankful for is the True Grit that Mother passed on to her kids, including me, to stick with a problem and get it solved, and never to give up Hope.  This is just another tiny way that Mother's influence in  the lives of her children is manifest.  I'm thankful she was my early guide to serenity.

Oh yes, I am thankful that the tube in my tear duct stayed put so far and seems to be working. yay Doctor Em!

So, now, I'm going to spend the day happily knitting away (in the pattern) on the second BonBon mitt.  It's at Ravelry as a free PDF if you would like to see it.  It's very pretty. 

Tuesday tails on Wednesday!

I know it's wordless Wednesday but I got a delay in my time line here.....so it's Wolfie's little pink tongue, and "Loading the kiln Day..  
Wolfie is just like the cute dog, "Woofie" (scroll down to seeWoofie) in Patrick McDonnell's strip, "Mutts".

Our Wolfie loves to give kisses.  Wolfie doesn't run us down to do it but he does this stealth thing where, when he's held in one of our laps, he will flip his head all the way over backwards and plants one on our lips.  He's not as big as comic strip  Woofie, but the affect is much the same as getting kissed by a golden Retriever-sized dog, meaning BIG and very DAMP!

Round though it may be,
that little quick tongue is VERY long, too.

 I retaliate in these attacks by grabbing at the end of it, saying, "I'm going to get your tongue!"  He can't stop himself from attempting to lick again but I can see in his round, brown,eyes that he wishes he could.  It's a Shi Tsui characteristic, to wish to lick, and to be able to flip that head upside down backwards, too.   I sometimes wonder how the Tibetan Monks put up with it?

 No, I am not but by now we all know what happened.

No. I don't think that the odds are very good, and I don't think lotteries help anyone but the people who sell the tickets. 40 million to 1 is terrible odds.

I know of him, and have seen his show a few times; I'd say he's a nice guy, but......He drives me crazy. He's a process painter who figured out how to make a living from it, and more power to him.  Who could argue with that?

Yes I do, all of them, and some of my grand Uncles and Aunts as well. My ancestors were military men, meat packers,  carpenters, waitresses, small business owners, Horse trainers, Ranchers, Heavy Equipment operators, Shipboard Mechanics, Merchant Marines.  They were many things.  My Spanish/Mexican grandfather also ran guns for Pancho Villa.  Hey, this used to BE Mexico.

119. Is there anything really interesting in your family history? My maternal grandfather played the guitar, western style, and that was something he passed on to me. From this early training, in my first five years, I have a love of singing folk songs and cowboy ballads, and of playing the guitar.

Of course.

Not to my face.. :-)   Except, I have heard reference to myself in regards to "The Princess and the Pea" fairy tale.  But, really, most people who know me would never confuse me with nobility, on any level. lol

Do you think teenagers are weird?
Not anymore.  I certainly understand them a lot better now.  They are actually fun to be around as long as they aren't being totally wild.

How fast does your mood change?
On the surface nothing changes.  However, I do balance out the under current shifts, all the time switching out of the mundane mind and into the Mind of Tao.

How are you feeling?
Pretty calm and happy.  Well, when I'm not expecting trouble.

I always want to hear from my kids.

What do you always take with you?
ID and cell phone, knitting and one med.

Yes, very.  I'd spend the whole darn day there, knitting, if I could get away with that.

I know "of what we are made" (not meaning sugar, spice, everything nice, slugs, snails or puppydog tails), and I love people for their struggles to be kind and good in a terrible world.  If that is what is meant by an understanding person, then yes, I think I might just be one.

Yes, I am, mostly - nervous but happy.

I haven't been single since I was 19.*  I never had boyfriends in high school or college.  I suspect some males might have liked me but were afraid of me. :-)

Done watching a film?  Yes, I listen to the "credits music" all the time.   I love music.

Sometimes I fall asleep in 10 to 20 minutes; sometimes it takes hours.  Sometimes, in hospital, I don't sleep at all no matter what the heck they give me to make me sleep!

Saturday Knitting and Saturday Komeekz

The knitting report:

I will try to only update knitting on Saturday, so as not to inflict too much knitting angst on male readers who do not knit.  However, I do encourage men to knit since it is a real stress buster. It's also easier than Cross Stitch and Needlepoint.

This is the progress on the second mitt.
I am up to the pattern rows and I PROMISE you I'll not show it again until it's finished,
and both thumbs are knit on the two of them.

Yesterday, the bad doggie day.  He was wiggling in my lap at the time

Yesterday, as I was getting ready to take a snap for an impromptu photo on the arm of the Comfy chair, Wolfie came flying in from his walk and does what he always does; he leapt into my lap.  Then he twirled his body around, settling instantly down.  I got a picture of the sofa across the room.  I tried to to take another photo, (the one directly above, and he decided to leap down and pursue what he thought was a treat being broken up for him in the kitchen by Mr. Z.

The only problem with this is that the Wolf was thoroughly entangled in the thread of the ball of yarn!  He happily dragged that half way to the kitchen with him as he streaked away.  I yelled and he stopped.  I started reeling him in, and he got the message as the yarn got tighter around his body.  He came back and patiently waited for me to unravel his body from my yarn while I laughed myself sick.

We always said he was half cat!

Friday Fill-ins and Doctor's orders...

And away we gooooo!  Lot's of gooey goodness....


1. I was looking for a quiet corner, with lots of light, to knit in and found it in my own house. Yay!
2. Sharing dinners, or potlucks, is one of my favorite ways to socialize.
3. I looked at the clock and, Mon Dieu!, it was past time to feed Wolfie!  I hate the summer time change!
4. My mother's old fashioned Fountain pen, which I still have, is the type of pen I most prefer to use.
5. What in the world happened to the pen company that still made the bladders for those old pens - I  sometimes wonder about such things.
6. Staring into space, wondering about something seems to happen to me often.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to Movie Night finished off with some "Frazier", tomorrow my plans include knitting and reading more about the Mind of Tao, and Sunday, I want to Observe Silence for an hour, knit more, and also cut out Moyalli's (my doll) Easter dress!

And then there is The Daily Babble:
 Yesterday we went to get a CT for my eye, and then DH got to take the Jeep to get it's little head examined.  This last came about because when we backed out of the parking space which we had occupied at the Center for Human Ills, Jeep pitched a fit, making some bumps and some very big noises!  We got out to examine her rear end, literally, and finding nothing crunched, crumpled or dead in the road ( i.e., a big piece of the 4X4's innards laying there, we got back into our Precious One, and slowly proceeded forward.  It happened again!  Alas, the trip to the shoe store was aborted and we drove slowly home, listening carefully for anything ELSE alarming to occur, all the while giving our frown lines a very good work out. 

After dropping me and my knitting off at home to comfort the doggie, Mr. Z headed to the Jeep Hospital where we had adopted her, and waited for the verdict (on "Freak'n, Scream'n Noises not Ever Heard Before") to fall in his ears and our pocket book.  The Jeep Docs agreed that it was a good thing he came in right away.   The tranny is good but a very bad and ugly butterfly had gone bad.  If they save the miscreant part for me, I intend to pin it out on a black wooden heart and mount it on the garage wall.

That eye thing.. The Doc wants to see if there is infection inside my head.  The little tube is still in place and it can, according to the Doctor's assistant, stay in there forever without causing alarm.  It fact, these are the instruction in case it does come out:

I don't really like it being in my eye but it has solved the problem.  I almost can't feel it anymore .. 

You all know that joke, yes?  The Doctor asks the patient if he has any pain.  The man says, "No, unless I do this...(patient demonstrates)." So, the Doctor says, "Well, don't DO that!"

I tried casting on four different times, over as many days, for the second mitt, and yesterday at my sister's, where the talk tends to be incessant, I just threw in the towel.  I have a  medical appointment coming up later on in the week, so I'm casting on again this am, and will take the knitting with me.

Memphis MEME part 1

Today we ripped off a blogger named Memphis Steve from the blog Steve's Nude Memphis Blog. He does not say where he got it from, but judging by his profile picture, we don not want to know! But, it was probably stolen there as well. So, of course, that will be as far as we go. Tracing back our theft's thieves might take some time. Take the time to comment on other player's posts. Do you sleep with the bedroom door open or closed?  Open

Do you drink tea?  yes, and coffee sometimes to because I love coffee.

Do you have plans for tomorrow?  Yes. scrubbing stuff and knitting, hopefully.

What’s worse: dry skin or chapped lips?  Lips

Would you be surprised if Facebook started charging?  No, I expect it, that's one reason I'm not on it.

Would you rather go to Canada or California on vacation?  Canada, but actually Cali is so big that I like going up the coast and hanging out with the kids more than anything.

How many social media sites are you registered with?  Three I think.

Are you wearing jeans, shorts, sweatpants or pajama pants? sweats

So, what if you changed lives for one day with the last person you texted?

It would be interesting because I'd be a guy and have a degree in Philosophy from UCSD, plus speak a bunch of languages and be a karate expert.  I'd also be half my age.  I might fight to not have to give up must of that, but I would like my own life back, too, I guess.  I would be conflicted, you know?

Last person you told a secret to?  My DH.

What are you listening to at the moment?  The forced air unit.

Where was the last place you fell asleep other than your bed?  Yesterday, I napped for ten mins in my comfy chair.


Is there someone that you believe you will always be attached to?
The use of the word "Always" implies beyond the grave.  Well, if that IS what it means, I hope it's my DH and the kids, as well as my mother and sister and all my dogs and cats. 

Are you going to any concerts this year?  No.  Old ears are not good at muzzy venues.

Do you believe in Karma? Yes. I have very personal reasons to believe it.  It's the only thing that makes any sense, and even Jesus refers to it in his talks with disciples. The Coptic Gospels are a good source.
