1) In this week's song, BJ Thomas sings that he knows it won't be long until he finds happiness. What are you looking forward to today? What's going to make you smile? I'm looking forward to watching a series about a pet Indian elephant tonight. 

2) BJ Thomas met his wife Gloria at a bar. She was there with his drummer, but BJ let his friend know he felt a connection to Gloria and was going to drive her home. BJ and Gloria were married for 50 years, until his death. Have you and a friend ever found yourselves attracted to the same person? If yes, how did you handle it? N.A. 

 3) This song is from Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid, which has been called "the most entertaining Western ever made." Do you enjoy Westerns?  I like them a lot. But I wouldn't call "Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid the most entertaining one I've ever seen.  I'd say it's the John Wayne movie called, "True Grit".  

4) Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is one of the most popular movies Paul Newman made, but he liked to say his "favorite role is philanthropist." He raised an amazing $500 million for children's charities through his Newman's Own brand. The most popular Newman's Own product is salad dressing. What flavor of salad dressing would we find in your kitchen right now?  I've tried Newman's Own and liked it.  I've made our own salad dressings for almost forever, and now DH makes them.  We are sort of stuck in Italy at the moment.... But, I used to make French Dressing, and several other kinds- Caesar, Ranch, Lemon Poppy seed, Honey Mustard, and Russian.  All are delicious, by the way, and all fresh.  Greek dressing with Yoghurt & feta and Tahini Dressing  This one doesn't use maple syrup.  Tahini comes in a jar and lasts a long time but there are other uses for it.  It also makes a sauce with chick peas that is so Yummy! Yes, use the blender if you want.  

5) Burt Bacharach won the first of his three Oscars for this song. Yet 20th Century Fox originally wanted to cut the song from the movie, maintaining that that song and the famous "bicycle sequence" between Paul Newman and Katharine Ross were anachronistic and made the movie too long. Burt and the movie's director George Roy Hill fought for it, insisting that it helped define the optimistic character of Butch. Tell us about a time you were glad you stood your ground.  My mother and mother in law had BOTH told me that they could be "pushed so far".... So I grew up and aged with that sort of attitude.  No one could ever push me too far. 

6) Edith Head also won an Oscar for Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. She said that Robert Redford, who played Sundance, presented a wardrobe problem. His jawline is too strong so she had to create special wider-brimmed hats to balance it. If you could magically change one of your physical features, which would you choose? And which feature would you never change?  I would choose to have dimples, like my brother.  And I would change my teeth so that I could have a lovely toothy smile. Braces were never an option in our "poor as church mice" bringing up.  Almost no one got braces back in the 40's and 50's anyway. I can remember only 3 people, in both my Jr. High and High School days, who had them. Two of them were my friends, and were twins.  

7) In 1969, when this song was a hit, The Beatles played their last concert on the roof of Abbey Road Studios. When did you last climb onto the roof?  This is so ODD!  I was just wondering this about four days ago, when it was raining cats and dogs.  I think the last time I climbed up on the roof and spent anytime working there was when I was helping to shingle a new roof.  That was in the mid eighties, I think. Since then it's been re-roofed twice.  I stopped going up there, after I fell in the raised bed, trying to leap to safety, and broke a wrist, in 2003.  But, I loved being up there and seeing sunsets.  But, of course, neither of us go up there anymore at all. 

I used to go there when the mood hit me.  I'm one eighth Scot after all.... I like the Highlands. lol 

8) Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys mysteries sold at a brisk pace at Christmastime 1969. They're still popular today. Were you a fan? I read them all when I was kid.  Mother got them for me, used from her sister, who was only 7 years older than I. They are still fun to read, but in all the hubbub and turmoil of "Life with a Brigand", they got "lost among the stars".   

9) Random question: Do you consider yourself old fashioned?  Clothes wise, yes I do.  However, I am sort of timeless, like many other little grey haired Hags, so that aspect of the question is a No.

The original Poster of that saying was of an Orangutan, and he sort of had his finger in his mouth, as well as very dreamy look on his face.  I used to have him up on the wall in my sewing room.  When I looked at him, it made me glad that I'd gone into crafting, little human "sitter" that I am. 

3. I've found that reading books by Jane Smiley can come with surprises unrevealed by their titles.  Yes, I am reading her book, A Dangerous Business.  This should carry a warning, for children under 18 and little old ladies over 60. And, it will definitely be banned by the Harper Valley PTA!  Mon Dieu!  It is a rather daring and scandalous "must read" for shockable little old ladies.  heehee

Dear readers, as per usual, you will get a full on rant with every entry that requires one (in my eyes).  I have a lot to get off my chest in a big hurry! And, I want to leave a legacy for the kids - Heretic Rebel that I am.

1) This song is about a young man who leaves home to seek his fortune. How old were you when you first moved out on your own? I was 18 when I finally got away, after two years work at a local college, to UCLA.  

However, I soon had to go home, because of a family emergency: Ma Kettle shot Pa Kettle, and my little sister went nuts, so I went home.  

Shortly after that, I was kicked out by the maniac, dear old Pa, and got a job at the phone company and my own little studio apartment. 

Why the law didn't intervene is that the wound was a "through and through', so Pa never had to go to a hospital. He then set about getting his revenge.  Unfortunately, by not standing up to El Monstro, Ma set the stage for her further abuse.  I could write an Opera based on them. 

2) He leaps onto a ship but the captain makes him sleep in the hold with pigs. Have you ever taken a cruise? (If so, we hope you had better accommodations.)  I've never taken a cruise but I've been across to Catalina several times to visit family there.  If you haven't been there, you will love it.  It's fun and beautiful, enchanting even, especially at night.  However, I would have liked to take a cruise.  Not on any huge, "stacked city" that is now afloat. The noise would be horrid.  I want to hear the wind in the sails, you know?  If I HAD gone, DH and I would have gone to Alaska, on a smaller cruise ship. 

 3) This recording of the song is by The High Kings. Well established in Ireland, their career reached new heights in March 2012. Right after playing for the Lord Mayor of London's St. Patrick's Day celebration, they flew to Washington to perform for President Obama at the White House St. Patrick's Day concert. Tell us about a time when you were so happy, you had to pinch yourself to make sure you weren't dreaming.  When I met my hubby for the first time.  It really was love at first sight for me. His gentle kindness just enveloped and enchanted me.  
 
4) This song was chosen because Friday was St. Patrick's Day. Do you celebrate this holiday?  Heck ya!  But at our age it's Low Key.  You see there's Irish aplenty on both sides of this family.  There's Scot's Irish on my side, and Irish Irish on hubbie's side.  That's where all the red hair came from. 
 
5) Leprechauns are a symbol of St. Patrick's Day. These small Irish fairies are said to live in the forest, guarding their gold. Do you often wear gold? That would be a no.  I am too yellow toned to wear it well.  That comes from the Native American genes picked up from Peru and the USA during the four direction Hopi travels. 

6) McDonald's has made Shamrock Shakes a St. Patrick's Day tradition. McDonald's began adding the drive-thru window to their restaurants in the 1970s. Would you rather order from the restaurant counter or the drive-thru? Starbucks counter.  McDonalds is a restaurant? 😬 I think I'll pass.

7) A four-leaf clover is considered good luck. Do you have a lucky charm?
 Not I, but my mother's always had a charming ability to find four-leaf clover in her garden.  She had several dried ones in her wallet when it came into my possession after her death.

8) Thinking of Lucky Charms, they are magically delicious. What breakfast cereal is in your kitchen right now?  Well, there is a canister full of bulk oatmeal.  That's the only cereal we ever have.  And, I've been meaning to try over-night oats, something that is all over social media. No other cereal, for decades, has passed over our doorstep, though I once liked Cheerios as well as Rice Chex and Wheat Chex cereal.
 
9) Random question: Think of your upcoming week. Which day will be the busiest? Busiest?  Hmmm???  That would probably be the one that contains a doctor's appointment but since we've been staying away from doctors lately, *knock on wood* it looks to be a calm week en toto.

1) In this song, Peggy Lee tells us she wiggles her toes in the sand. Have you been to the beach yet in 2023? Do you expect to wiggle your toes in the sand when you're on vacation this year?  Ah that would be a no.  We are retired and can go anytime we want to.  But we don't usually go to the shore in summer because it's usually jam packed with seasonal visitors.  This is great.  We are fine with it.

 2) She also sings that contemplating nature can be fascinating. What flora and fauna can you see from your window as you answer these questions?  My computer faces a wall in the office and in summer, when the window to the side of it is open, I can see cape honeysuckle plants and the top of a lime tree.  

3) With this song, she's telling everyone to take her as she is or leave her be. Does that reflect your attitude? Or are you a "people pleaser" who worries what others think of you?  I don't worry about anything but good manners and kindness.  I also just try to be polite and myself.  I don't have any pretenses - my mother was this way as well.  In her year book from high school, she was described as "sweet and unpretentious".  I can't say I am regarded, necessarily as sweet, though my hubby thought I was when we met  (poor guy).  But, I am forthright, and unpretentious, so I got at least one of mother's good attribute's. 

4) These lyrics were written by Carolyn Leigh. She began her career as an advertising copywriter but, since she showed a flair for poetry and rhymes, she was urged by a music publisher to write lyrics. Have you ever tried your hand at poetry?  I've enjoyed writing poetry, and I also like to write songs, when the lyric sprite inspires (bites) me.  Mostly I've sung a bit at Campfires in the mountains and deserts at a few singalongs, and I shared a little of it.  If it all dies with me, it's no great loss but what little I did was fun to do. 

5) This song was composed for the 1964 movie Father Goose, starring Cary Grant. Are you a fan? Do you just vaguely know the name? Or are you wondering what a Cary Grant is?  I know who he is, and I do really like his work.  "Arsenic and Old Lace", because it's funny, 

 And... "The Bishop's Wife" With co-star, Loretta Young, because it's sweet, a very good storyline, and gets the season off to a semi spiritual start.  There are others...

6) This was a top-20 hit for Peggy Lee. As a girl in North Dakota during the 1930s, Peggy lived above the train station where her father was depot agent. Today that depot is home to a museum which features a Peggy Lee Exhibit. Have you recently visited a museum?  No, I haven't.  The last one was the King Tut exhibit in San Francisco.  We used to go all the time but I don't really enjoy museums anymore.  I'm thinking it is an age related thing.  Besides, you can't touch anything anyway.  I can see things better on my monitor.  I'd bet there are sites where you can pick up King Tut and Twirl him around in the air to see the backside. Now giant aquariums, I'd go to those again.

 7) Designer Bonnie Erickson was also grew up in North Dakota and used her girlhood idol as the inspiration for her most famous creation: Miss Piggy. A diva with flowing blonde hair and jewelry, the puppet was originally called Miss Piggy Lee. As the character gained in fame with The Muppets, the name was shortened to Miss Piggy because Bonnie didn't want to offend Peggy Lee, whom she genuinely admired. Tell us something you have done recently to spare someone's feelings.  I haven't done anything that hurt anyone's feelings.  I do know that if I ever got a face to face with Putin, the fur would fly.  😆😁  I'm not that much of a sufferer of fools. 

8) While Peggy Lee often changed her hairstyle with the times, she was always a blonde. She considered those lustrous locks her trademark. Are you having a good hair day today?  HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA  *COUGH* No I am not.

9) Random question: What's the perfect way to spend a lazy afternoon?  Since I have nothing BUT lazy afternoons, I am full of ideas about it.  OK.  I'll play.  It would be: Knitting a short fingered glove while watching an old movie or The Great British Baking Show on Netflix.  I would have my UGG's on and my feet up and sweet tea close at hand.  Or I would be reading my latest book with all of the rest of the Accouterments mentioned, sans the TV.

The first, in case you missed it  

In case you missed it…A young person, a tourist, was arrested while walking her Pet Calf in Moscow.    This is sort of a fun yet farcical thing. Be sure to read it all.  It's both cute and it's sweet, because she had some support there, while in prison, in the form of vegan meals delivered by a Russian animal rights group.  This leads me to want to repeat the idea that it’s people like Putin and other war mongers who are the problem in this thing, not the citizens in a country. 

2.  Spring is on the way!  Here’s some pictures of  FL🌸 WERS!  Farmers Market and local garden. 

3.  I’m watching a show called “New Amsterdam” on Netflix, and loving every minute of it. I find it  fascinating.

This is such a happy and sweet song.  This is my kind of "Country".... 💓💓💖💗💘

1) This week, Darius Rucker sings about hitching a ride to reach his lady love. Have you ever thumbed a ride?  Never have I ever had to.  I’ve given a lot of rides in the past before it was insane to do it.  

2) Along the way, he loses his money in a poker game. Successful poker players are good at bluffing, or misleading others about their cards. Are you good at bluffing, whether at cards or in life?  Not that I know of. 

3) Darius began has career as the lead singer of 90s soft-rock band Hootie and the Blowfish. Today he's a country singer. Let's say you're stuck in traffic and only one radio station comes in clearly. Would you prefer it play soft rock or country? What?  No iPod ?!?!!  I'd listen to Country, probably, because it’s peppier. 

4) Darius Rucker will be on tour throughout 2023, playing dates all over the country and making a couple stops in Cancun. Have you ever visited Mexico? If so, where did you go?  We used to go very very often when hubby was surfing and the two older girls were little. 

Rosarita Beach was a tiny fishing village in those days, and hubby’s sister and BIL had a little trailer there.  A big group would go down…

Then, Alas…. began the great migration of Americans Snow bird retirees.  We used to go to Tijuana all the time, though.  It was fun. Now it’s just far too dangerous. I’ve never been to Cancun.  It seems alright.  But nothing like the 60's.  That was sort of like heaven.  Before the big drug lords and such.  Ahora, es muy Malo y peligroso. 

5) Darius has lent his talents to fundraising for The First Tee, a non-profit that teaches children "life lessons, self-confidence, and resilience through golf." Did you participate in organized sports as a youngster? If yes, what did you play?  I was on teams for basketball, archery, volleyball, tennis, and badminton. This was in the G.A.A. tourneys. I earned my certification as a basketball referee at that time, too. I loved it all. 

6) A big sports fan, he has six TVs in his home so he can watch several games at once. His largest set is 70". When it comes to TV screens, do you believe bigger is better? Or are you just as comfortable watching from your laptop or phone?  My eyes need a bigger screen.  I could watch from this desk top, or our big screen, which is not small but not big enough for me. I’d actually like to have a 55", like my sister's.  Lol...

7) In 2013, when "Wagon Wheel" was popular, fans were flocking to the movie theater to see Catching Fire, the second in the Hunger Games series. Are you a Hunger Games fan?  Actually, I haven’t watched any of them. I think it’s because the title turned me off.  Hunger is no joke.  Ask any poor kid. I’m sure it has nothing to do with hunger but there’s a lot of happier stuff to watch. 

8) Also in 2013, the word "selfie" was added to the Oxford Dictionary. Do you take a lot of selfies? No.  A few have made it through the process of learning my phone camera.  I don’t like Selfies of me.  I’d rather live in blissful ignorance of my now wizened, Eighty year old countenance.  😁🤣

9) Random question: If we paid you $5,000, would you get Saturday 9 tattooed on your right forearm?  Not unless I was drunk out of my mind, and even then I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t happen. Try a couple of million $$$ ; I might bite… A butterfly on my ankle might be tempting....
