Welcome back to Sunday Stealing which originated on WTIT: The Blog authored by Bud Weiser. Here we will steal all types of memes from every corner of the blogosphere. IF YOU COULD:
Travel anywhere, where would it be?
All over the USA and Canada. I'd like to see all of North America, except - Sorry for this, lovely old Mexico - Mexico. Mexico scares me right now. We used to go camping there, along the coast, all the time. Mr.Z's two sisters and the Bro In-laws had little places there, old trailers. The three guys all surfed. It was a lovely place to go.
Meet anyone, who would it be?
I would have loved to have had a long, quiet talk with Dag Hammarskjold. Nowadays, it would be The Dali Lama.
Bring anyone dead back to life, who would it be?
Someone who regretted committing suicide. I don't have a particular person in mind, but would just love to give someone a second chance if they wanted one.
I would have said my own Mom to answer this but I think my sweet mother wants to stay where she is. Frankly- and if it works the way we Christians think it does - she deserves to be able to stay in Heaven with my dear little brother, and her beloved pets, all the while happily churning out her arts and crafts to decorate the place, and awaiting her other loved ones. That is IF they make it. Lol.
Be anyone for a day, who would it be?
The Dali Lama, for obvious reasons. I want to know what he knows.
Get anything for free for the rest of your life what would it be?
This is a hard question. I guess it would be free electricity; then I could have air conditioning.
Change one thing about your life what would it be?
I would get rid of a monster so our mother and her kids didn't get put through what they went through. I'd do this by giving my grandparents the insight to let Mother marry the boy she loved even if he was an Italian. My bet is that they ended up wishing the same thing on their own.
Have any superpower what would it be?
Healing all sentient beings with the mind. Bing! It's done!
Be any animal for a day which would you be?
I would be a Wandering Albatross, Male. I am so over wanting to be responsible for ANY eggs.
Date anyone who would it be?
I'd like the chance to date Mr. Z again because I think we are at a point we can do this. If only all this medical stuff would just calm down. Merde!
Change one thing about the world what would it be?
I would remove the greed gene from all of humanity. *Poof*, it's gone!
Live in any fictional universe which would you choose?
Utopia. Oh, you said Universe. I choose the kind and gentle one that's right next to this one. The one that can see us but we can't see them. You know, The REAL one.
Eliminate one of your human needs which would you get rid of?
Having to eat. I want to survive on Moonlight like that Asimov heroine.
Change one thing about your physical appearance what would it be?
I'd like my height back.

My heightened levels of Anxiety, but I'm working on it.

Santa Cruz CA, near the beach, in that Craftsman style house I'm always yammering on about. Yes, I know, but no one other than drug dealers and the filthy rich can buy a house in Santa Cruz these days.

The unwritten escape clause of incompetence, the one tagged onto the Treason Laws since forever, for any President - or cabal - who starts a war for profit.
Be any height, which would you choose?
5 ft 6. Then the pants I buy wouldn't have to be shortened all the time! Petite is now not petite enough!
Have any job in the world, which would you choose?
I've had the best job in the world. Now that I'm retired I'd like to carry on as an Oil Painter of some repute.
Have anything appear in your pocket right now, what would it be?
A small, red, four holed button that stops anyone from being inhumane, anywhere, and instantly. It would also be a self activating, all knowing devise. I suspect it would be red hot in about 3 seconds. I'd put it into a very special self cooling - and fire proof - box so as not to suffer something nasty. Actually, I would just put the button and it's box in the outback somewhere, the backyard, let's say, where no one could ever find it. But, because its MAGIC, it would keep working forever! Buhahahahaha!
Have anyone beside you right now, who would it be?

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. Saturday 9: I Feel the Earth Move

1) This song is from the album Tapestry, one of the all-time best-sellers (more than 25,000,000 copies sold worldwide). Is it in your collection?
Yes, it's a treasure! And, Carole King is wonderful still. Not so recently I put up her song, "So Far Away", on Music Monday. At least I think it was that one. I don't think she has done any song that didn't truly move me.
2) It's about that glorious passion you feel when you first fall for someone. How many times have you been in love?
Three times, in all, I have. Some might call it kid's stuff, but one lasted from third grade through most of High School. Another red head. And there was Jim in HS. What can I say. I have fallen for three redheads in my life. It has to be genetic.
3) San Francisco radio stations briefly removed "I Feel the Earth Move" from their playlists after the 1989 earthquake. Have you ever been in an earthquake and literally felt "the earth move under your feet?"
I'm a virtually life long Californian. I think I was five when the first one came through. Let's just say that some part of all the biggest southern counties have moved beneath my feet. It's been a fun ride, mostly because it shook a lot but nothing was bashed. So, I feel very lucky about that part. The real miracle of as far as Earthquakes go is Coalinga. It is a small town in the Central Valley that was nearly completely LEVELED and no one was killed. More than 90 persons were injured, however.
The reason that I am using a lot of Wiki links is that both the biggest search engines are full to the rim with commercial junk.
4) Carole King is the first and only woman to win the Gershwin Prize for songwriting from the Library of Congress. Here's your chance to brag a little -- tell us about an accolade you have received.
Sorry, none for me. I'm a mouse that only sometimes roars on my blog.
5) Carole wrote "You've Got a Friend," which was a mega hit for her good pal, James Taylor. King and Taylor have known one another for more than 40 years, but have never been romantically involved. Do you have any platonic friends of the opposite sex?
You bet I do. Maybe that song I put up was, "You've Got a Friend". I'm just too pummeled at the moment with feelings of horror and calamity to go search it.

6) Like more than 80% of the population, Carole is right handed. Are you right handed, left handed (10%) or that most rare of all, ambidextrous (less than 10%)?
I am ambidextrous from at least High School. I can't remember before then. I can write as well with my right hand as the left. Maybe even draw. It depends on the slate. On a blackboard, they are equal - on paper, not so equal. My daughter told me to draw with my right hand as it's good for my brain. I'm worried about forgetting how to draw at all!
7) One of Carole King's earliest hits was Little Eva's "The Loco-Motion." Little Eva was the teenager King hired to care for her young children. Tell us about a sitter who cared for you when you were little.
We were poor and we just didn't have sitters. I was the eldest and so therefor the "sitter" I guess. Even when mother went to the hospital with her last baby, my little sister, I was still only Nine. All I remember is that Mother kissed me on the cheek, and I woke up as she did so; then she walked through the bedroom door on her way to the hospital.
8) Beautiful is the title of the Broadway play about Carole King's life. If we were producing your lifestory, what would you want us to call it?

9) Carole wrote "Pleasant Valley Sunday," the Monkees' song about conspicuous consumption. When Crazy Sam looks at her crowded shelf of hair products (paraben-free conditioner, keratin-restoring conditioner, hair masque, hot oil conditioner …), she realizes she's guilty of it herself. Have you bought anything recently that you later decided was a waste of money?
We didn't actually "buy" this little piece of junk, but there was a "free" tablet that costs 10 bucks a month in fees. I still don't know what to hay to do with it! I've found a few things to pick up as Kindle offerings but so many of them are just Fluff! I'm taking suggestions on this! I guess I'll have to start actually buying books? hehe.. There is always Gutenberg. I so LOVE Gutenberg!

A Rant about the stupidity of Life in Post 911, as well as it's random acts of Police State Violence.
Maybe this was the problem? But then, it was 3AM, and maybe all they'd had was Bennys?
Yes, I know, THREE posts in one day but what the hell.
I came home from the gym and have cried the rest of the day. Unfortunately, the gym has a huge wall of big TVs in front of both usable sets of machines. They don't have them in the weight lifting area, and I am now going to ask to be taken there ALL the time for any instruction and I will avoid, LIKE POISON, the rest of the gym.
An adorable little baby was horribly burned in a raid that is reminiscent of a shooting of an innocent person in their home here in San County about 15 years ago. Narcs did that one.
So, I've been playing with the blog and playing solitaire and doing what it takes to not HATE!
About the font: I had up cursive but it was too hard to read. I'll be changing things here all the time to preserve my sanity.
"Confusion has it's costs!" That, according to Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Well that explains the police, they are confused?
The header might change daily.... I have to keep my hands busy so my heart doesn't spiral out of control and start hating people.
Please pray for the baby and his family. And pray for all the good cops who don't make stupid excuses like they didn't see any toys in the house. They should have known that the family living there had lost their house and all their belonging in an upper Midwest house fire; they'd gone to Georgia for a fresh start. This is, after all, the closest to a Police State that America has ever come. The police didn't know these things? Well, in San Diego County, they had THE WRONG ADDRESS but we didn't have Homeland Security at that time. An Agency, that one, that knows how many times a toilet flushes in a house, presumably. GOD, I AM SO ANGRY!
I can understand why people stop believing, I really, reaaaaally can.

The word this week is: LOST.
Start:
I'm writing today about the Hard Things to Lose.... they don't usually come back. It was tough to write this, but it continually gets lost in the clatter and speed of modern life while Loss usually gets palyed out over decades and is almost invisible to most Americans.
Birds, the delicate though truly tough, got lost in the rush to have cash crops to send over seas, because we slowly lost the industrial base and millions of jobs with it.
Lost: millions upon millions of birds to DDT, something that Rachel Carson fought long and hard, in and out of Congress to get off the farmlands of America.
Lost, to the draining of marshlands which have only recently- within the last forty or so years been slowly moving from their former designations as "wastelands".
Lost: most of the world's pollinators, because of newer neuro-toxin based pesticides that weakened their immune systems and set them up for decline into near oblivion.
Lost, all those money mad individuals who KNEW and let it happen anyway.
Lost: Health in human motherss? The babies in the womb? Food on the table for lack of pollinators?

Friday 5 for June 27: I Scream

I actually started this list with question number 5 but thought it was best at the end. As I typed it, I realized that the metaphor is used to describe good AND bad things, which I found kind of interesting. I wonder how many other phrases work that way.
1. What’s something this past week that made you slightly bananas?
I sort of stressed out about having a shot in my shoulder. "Sort of" is probably putting it mildly. lol It has worked wonders for my shoulder though, and all to the good!
2. What did you do last Sunday? What are you planning for this coming Sunday?
Last Sunday we caught our breaths from the previous week. However, last Sunday I did get a chance to congratulate my bro on a lovely little house that he found to live in. He was living in a tiny place and now he has a house with a garden! We ROTFLOL about his being re-introduced to "The Money Pit" definition of home ownership.
3. What’s something you fudged this past week?
Fudged, as in did not DO properly? Well I'm not drawing every day. I am so used to making products rather then just doing something for the joy of it that it's hard for me to "waste" materials. I have to get over it!
4. What was this week’s most interesting scoop?
Things I found out about? Well there is something about Ann Coulter, that "expert on all things". Apparently, she doesn't like Football, or as Americans call it, Soccer. She believes it is ruining the American way of life. Perhaps she prefers La Crosse instead. Now there is the Original team sport for the Americas! Poor Ann, so little to talk about and so very many white spaces to fill.
5. What was the cherry on top of your good or bad week?
The weather has been stellar! Not too hot and not too cold at night. This will probably change mid July, hopefully not sooner. The tomato plants are HUGE! I want two cherries please and lots of whipped cream, thank you!

Good Gad! It's Tuesday Tails, Wordless Wednesday, and now Thankful Thursday already!
Well, I met my nice new Doctor who is a Gem! So fun, even when administering the DREAD Needles of Cortisone Monster to fight The Beast of Inflammation. No pain so far, even though promised.
After waiting four and a half months to let the darn thing get "better", it was time. You know? I have no fear of needles, or of blood -even mine- left in me; I just want to limit my medical stuff as much as possible!
I am thankful for cortisone. Thank you, God!
What I feared was that the rotator cuff had gone Toe Up. So far it doesn't seem like that, and with PT I will soon be knitting again. Yay! Three sweaters, one completely finished except to be sewn up, and two more half done (or so) will, hopefully, be done by the end of the year. Since I live day to day, it is a good time to roll out The Ten Minute Rule that was first introduced by our dearly belovéd fran at Knitter's Review.
Wednesday wordless or not... here it is.... Make it big. That is a piece of root from somewhere in the desert. Found on a rockhounding trip on year in the 80s. I think it's beautiful. It has appeared once before on the blog, that time with a piece of jewelry laying on it. I am so in love with weathered wood.
Tuesday tails. All about birds.
The pair of California Towhee's love it when we water under the shade patio. We scare up moths from the insides of the deep leafy plants and they chase them down to catch so that their young ones have a meal. The Young ones are stashed in a neighborhood tree somewhere. Yesterday the male missed the meal, and the moth fluttered indignantly away over the fence, zigging and zagging like an Ace WWII Fighter pilot.
The doves are raising another clutch of eggs but have moved the nest to a more secure place, they hope. I'm sure that a feral or semi-feral cat is getting at most of the eggs because the shade cloth is no more secure. It flutters in the wind. We need to replace it but we've had so very much other drama going on here that the Dove Drama has taken a back seat.
The doves are bullies at the bird bath, but they can't stand their ground against a determined Towhee. That little Towhee wins, every time. I don't know what it is about Towhees, but they do not take ANY guff off the doves. I guess they know Doves are quitters.

I'm sure that a feral or semi-feral cat is getting at most of the eggs because the shade cloth is no more secure. It flutters in the wind. We need to replace it but we've had so very much other drama going on here that the Dove Drama has taken a back seat.
The doves are bullies at the bird bath, but they can't stand their ground against a determined Towhee. That little Towhee wins, every time. I don't know what it is about Towhees, but they do not take ANY guff off the doves. I guess they know Doves are quitters.

A Monday for Mother, and updates of the Wolf
My mother was a quiet person who had a droll Midwesterner's sense of humor; she was very loving to the babies in her life, and that meant nearly all of God's creatures if they didn't have to be eating her garden for their livelihood! She did draw one line through that conviction, outside of the insects she killed with wild abandon, and that was that she kept farm animals for eating and didn't want us making pets of them. We, of course, did anyway.
I learned to stick with the non-edible pets after a favorite runt rabbit that I loved so much was dispatched without regard for his special status as MY black bunny, and I came home to find that they had saved his skin for me. I still have it, though it is so agéd now as to be turning to dust.
Mother had an eye for beauty and the heart of an artist, but like most people impacted by the trail of Greed that Europe was enduring and which eventually became WWII, she didn't get a chance to express it. She did however, take a pen she used for school penmanship and refashion it into a pen for pen and ink. I used it for Pen and Ink and, with a wider nib, for very delicate Scraffito on porcelain beads. I found the pen in her things after she died in 1984.
Wolfie Report: He is recovering, and his belly has stopped being swollen up. Who would think a dog could expand that much? I guess he will continue to recover and to be fine again until a weekend when his vet isn't available.
I'm sort of joking but it does raise a little PANIC in my brain when that thought runs through it! The scary part of all of this is that we finally found the lost thermometer, but it was broken in two, and under the bed where Wolfie dives for safety in times of "fight or flight". We thought he'd maybe gotten a hold of it, and bitten it in two, but we did not know. Actually, the thing showed no evidence that he'd even messed with it, and all the mercury was still inside it.
Then we thought, or at least I did, "does he have the dread Torsion?" since I'm typically calm outside while inside am lurching madly toward thinking of every horror and disaster, one after the other and in technicolor, that has befallen man or beast in the whole of history. That is truth and not hyperbole.
Anyway, he is getting much better now that what ever it was seems to be going away. This whole strange, periodic illness of his is akin to the canker sore that drives a person mad with pain for 10 days and then goes back underground until next time.

73. What are you doing today? Cleaning out a corner to bring in a trunk I bought in Santa Cruz, and taking care of a sick little dog. We hope he gets better soon because he's in pain. Right now he's sleeping right beside me on the bed. I'm using the netbook.

83. Last time you were sick? Just remember you asked for this litany, lol. Starting sometime in late March I had pancreatitis, brought on by a medicine that was KNOWN to cause it. I diagnosed myself! After doctors discovered that the problem had caused the gall bladder to nearly explode, it had to go. Then after having surgery for that, a prescription was re-issued for a BP medicine that I was allergic to. Since being gagga because of surgery and the meds they give you, I forgot that part and dutifully took it for two and a half months before I finally called the doctor to ask him why I had seven or eight of the allergy symptoms. I've been recovering ever since. At my daughter's graduation I cold hardly walk! There Pina, the cat's out of the bag so to speak. The moral is to keep good records of your own so your hubby can go to battle for you.

85. Do you wish you could move? Do I EVER wish I could move. I want to go to Central Coast! I love the people up there and the whole atmosphere.

Migratory Birds may just get a break, and saving water around the house for use on plants.
With such a dry year, or actually a series of drought years, migratory birds are having a bad time on the Pacific Flyway. But with a deal brought about by Nature Conservancy, with a lot of help from Audubon and other partners, and of course the farmers, disaster for the birds may be averted.

Farmers have also been partnering to try to save habitat for the quickly declining Tri Colored Blackbird, a sub species of Red Winged Blackbird. The Tricolored is crashing, with numbers down 40% since 2011.
This is very exciting because all of a sudden there is some hope in the mix of other news. I think this will work if everything goes according to plan. Of course, as long as the drought is running, the field flooding may have to continue. There are an unbelievable number of farm fields laying fallow along the Central Coast.
When we drove up there last month we did see huge new acreages of wine grapes but there are problems ahead for those as well. Please read about water problems ahead for the vineyards HERE
Nearly all the lands the vines now occupy were formerly ranch lands. The ranch lands formed good forage for small animals on which Redtailed Hawks, Merlins and other raptors, coyotes and the occasional Bobcat made livings. Mice, cottontail Rabbits, etc, sharpened their skills of survival while dodging death from the air or from the land. But that's a different story. Despite the fact that these vineyards are another form of desert for all species of wildlife, winged or quadrupedal, there has been very little amelioration made for the habitats destroyed, and this is so even with all the additional stresses and problems made worse by drought.
THIS LINK goes to the United States Drought Monitor site for a good look at what's happening and why it is so VERY important to save bath, shower and dish washing water for watering plantings. HERE is a list called Wise Water Use PDF, and save gray water. You can water your potted plants with it. I have a lot of pots and that is how I'm doing it.

Right now I'm listening to a Mocking Bird who sings almost all night long in the Honey Suckle. He signs "Mary, Mary,Mary" along with so many amazing little vocalizations. It's wonderful to have him there. Because when he is singing, I know that everything is alright back there.

I had some unexpected and sort of bad news, not life threatening nor illegal but bad none the less. It freaked me out, scared me, I became scared for my child, who is, after all a full grown woman, and can take good care of herself.
Then I remembered that these things I was imagining where just that, They were just thoughts. So, I prayed that she wouldn't be hurt in anyway. She would have a good result in a friendship and one in which she trusted someone, for whom she has labored for several years to be right with her, and treat her fairly. I realized that these things being just thoughts, did not mean they were truths, and didn't mean that they had do be necessarily bad. We all learn from everything that happens to us. We can grow from them and learn to handle life with more commitment to detail, and how to be wiser. There are takers and their are givers. Takers are ruthlessly selfish, but they can not hurt you in the long run, but they do teach you many things. This is where release comes in. You release those feelings back into the Universe, where they can be recycled, but you can take the lesson that has been given and keep it in your heart forever.

Thankful Thursday, The generosity of the Web
I'm so nervous today, this is Tuesday and yes, I'm loading up the posts to be ready to publish. I think it's time for chocolate and tea, and a wander through our tiny Eden: the birds love the weedy garden. Behind the yellow iris is that little tramp-like but lovely weed, Scarlet Pimpernel. Zoom in!
This is what I'm thankful for today, too. The Amazing, Colossal INTERNET!
Noodles, The pseudonym of Arnold Winkelried, which is in itself is a pseudonym, has a fascinating page up.
I have used the diacritical marks part of it for years and never even LOOKED at the HOME page tab there until two days ago. So, I'm putting the link up HERE as an apology and some praise for what is evidently a larger group who answers random and odd questions for people who want to know.
Warning! There may be big bad F words there. Sort of like the !F*ck you Monsanto!" bumpersticker I saw Sunday on a big four wheel drive truck at Pt. Loma Seafoods. Actually, it sort of made my day. A real human's protest - in your face, Monsanto! But, I digress....
I am thankful for Noodles and his group, which I hope still answers puzzling questions, in the hopes that you may have a few you would also liked answered.

I didn't go to the Straight Dope message board, but have a little take of my own on that question. Frights are usually things that almost make a person lose their mind. So, why would said persons bother to dye their hair anymore, or Rinse it, or even tint it actually? I know it would be the last thing on my mind, to dye, tint or rinse my hair a different color in times of dire stress.
Well, that's what I am thankful for. The little (or big) things people do for others, on the web, to cheer us all up.
Finding Noodles' Home page has cheered me up!
The Mourning Dove is back on it's nest. I guess the two fledglings took off for the grass fields or the lake, and mother thought it was time to try again. Mourning Doves are on a mission. I guess it's a good thing. 20+ Million of them are taken by human hunters every year, so I guess it's good that some one else helps them out by providing place for them to nest.

Tuesday Tails, various, and a new book. TM Grant's Book about times of the Crusades

I am finally finishing Good Omens, and want to recommend it again for the humor and brilliant writing. It is a fast moving, exciting tale of a devil and an angel who have both been sent to supervise the end of the Earth and find themselves with more in common than they first realized.
I just hope this new book doesn't turn out to be as bloody as another one, Killing Floor, which I had asked for but then, after seeing it, decided not to read. I think I've had my fill of hyper-violence, and since Blood Red Horse is a children's book, I'm hoping that it will be a better read for me during my recuperation from drug resistant bacteria and killer Pharmaceuticals.
Today is ceramics and my heart just isn't in it anymore. Don't want to do it. Need to draw!

Lord no. Life was terrible for the first nineteen years so the kids in my family are neurotic, not spoiled. The so called "Everyone in the Third World Would Gladly Change Places with Any American" School of thought is something dreamed up by people who never had a problem like a Criminal Psycho for a parent. Greek Tragedy comes close but it doesn't involve children, just mostly adults who are acting like animals. I except Socrates and Plato from these musings, but Aristotle I probably would have smacked myself.

Yes, most of my notes to myself are in code, code I can't read the next morning. It would have been fun to write code for some underground theater group that staged Popup Productions and needed a coordinator to send out encrypted messages via that late night network of old, but cell phones and flash mobbing sort of took away the need.

Well, I wish it was Beethoven but it's not. I know of only one other person but she is the daughter of a friend of a friend who lives halfway across the country.

Not that I recall. Oh wait, one day I was standing near a bench some distance from the outdoor theater in Balboa Park, and David Ogden Stiers, who was playing a part in the latest production, walked across the front of the theater. I saw him, did a tiny double take, and then sort of curtsied. He kindly bowed back. I like to say we parted friends. Lovely memory.
58. Do you want to be famous one day?
No. But, having said that, I would like to be a good enough writer that my blog is entertaining and not so banal.

I got over those a while back. Life is just too fracking short.

2) He was notorious for leaving his famous first wife for his very famous second wife. Can you name either of the women involved in this Hollywood scandal? Debbie Reynolds and Elizabeth Taylor. Such a jerk.
3) His oldest daughter, Carrie Fisher, is best known as Princess Leia from Star Wars. Are you a sci-fi fan?
I like Sci-fi but I love Carrie Fisher! She played in The Burbs, too.
4) Since Sam's father is particular about his footwear and likes "a good pair of Cole Haan loafers," her Father's Day present to him is a DSW gift card. If we were to give you a gift card to any store or restaurant, which would you choose?
Lowes. hehe That would be like a gift for myself too though. Hmmm?

Darn, I can't remember...
6) Sam's father is a voracious reader. So much so that the local librarian knows him on sight and by name. How often do you visit your neighborhood library?
I never got in, DH picks up all the books in the family because he seems to like to do that. When the kids were little we practically lived in the library in the summertime.
7) "A good used car is a better investment than a new car." That's what Sam's dad tells her when she's in the market for wheels. Share some other words of financial wisdom with us.

8) Every car her father has ever owned had a pro-union bumper sticker. Do you have any bumper stickers on your vehicle?

Five Minute Friday, friday5, and all points between....
OK, well, I got the message God. Read Labels EXTREMELY carefully. I'll have more to say about this later. And, both of these meme's are very fun, and if you want to play along, just look for their buttons in the side bar.
Five Minute Friday for today is the word Messenger.
Here goes:
We all serve as messengers for others. Sometimes the things we communicate are dire, like," I have this gun pointed at you for a reason, and I am going to kill you if you don't do what I say." Hopefully we never have to face that message from another human being more than once in a lifetime, or never. Then there are the messengers from the Animal Kingdom, Like "You, stupid human, are between me and my baby, and I'm going to teach you a lesson before I eat out your liver."
Then there are little messages from God that we deliver ourselves. They come in the form of relating a dream, the Aboriginals of Australia call these Dreamtime messages, and people who ignore them do so at their peril. American natives - the REAL ones- also have this tradition, as do people who are truly seers among the rest of the population. I am one of the people who believes in dreams as messages, but who the messenger is is always a question. Is it my little amigdula which is always sending panic messages to the rest of my body? Or is it a wonderful, special guardian, who wants me to watch out for something. These are questions that will always exists for messengers who come in dreams. The messengers who come in the daylight, with maybe a smile and a nice comment about your 25 year old red coat, are surely people who are in it for the Joy. I like messengers who do these things. We are really all messengers for others so we should be careful about what messages we are sending. Fight or flight? Calm in the face of a storm? Kindness that is just a random thing that some folks have a gift for? But, my time is up!

1. Roughly how many plastic shopping bags do you think are in your house right now, and which store is represented most by them?
There's about 20 in the bag holder, mostly from Michael's and JoAnn's. I've almost completely stopped shopping in retail stores so that little stash is not going to grow.
2. Roughly how many gift cards do you possess, and about how much are they worth in sum?
Gee, this is a shopping survey, isn't it? I have None but do buy them here and again for my sister and daughters occasionally.
3. What’s an aisle at your favorite grocery store or drugstore that you pretty much never walk down?
I only go into a small pharmacy. Since I don't have to shop for anything anymore, unless it's a thrift store, there is NO aisle I won't go down in a thrift store.
4. When you shop for groceries, are you most likely to grab a shopping cart or a shopping basket? How often do you grab neither?
In the less than 10 times I've had to go into a grocery store in the last few years, I only need a little basket. I did push a shopping cart around for my sister when I took her grocery shopping every Friday for a couple of years.
5. What was the last thing you purchased just in case?
Just in case I needed yet another cholesterol buster, I recently purchased a big box of a substance that I will not name here. Yes, we now get to the Header sentence in this post.
The Importance of Reading Labels Before Opening Large Boxes of Pharmaceuticals.
I went to the pharmacy to pick up a new medicine to try, one which my ever helpful doctor prescribed for me. WE got it home and not knowing that there was Aspartame in it, I opened it up, read the little packet, one of about fifty in the box, and saw the warning on the tiny packet. Why I did NOT see it on the BIG ECONOMY sized box, I'll never know. Anyway, don't ever hire me as a detective. It might get you killed.

A different sort of Thankful Thursday: Like Thanksgiving Thursday? Be Warned: This Video is not for the squeamish
Well, this whole thing already posted to Google 1 so I may as well put it up here, too. I have no idea why, either. Google1 is Nuts! Talk about Beauty and the Beast all in one day!
Sorry, I am not kidding about this being awful to watch. This comes with my highest TOXICITY warning for Blech, OMG! and some other stronger words of disbelief. But, I can't just sit by, silently, while this goes on for ONE MORE DAY!
I'm angry with the meat industry for their cruelty. I am Thankful that there are people willing to risk limbs, or even their lives to expose the sort of cruelty that is, unfortunately, too common in the Big Meat Industry. This post is also for all the tiny rooster chicks who died, in their millions, suffocated in black plastic bags for the Egg Industry.
I've put up what is a terrible video but we deserve, as a people, to know what corporations are doing behind our backs, this while they woo our grocery dollars with Norman Rockwell like scenes. We can support these actions, if we feel it's appropriate, but if we don't we should be able to say so. I've said so.
I've made it a bit easier to tell Butterball what you think about the atrocious things they are doing. There is a petition you can sign HERE to tell them you want them to change their business "habits". Also, I'm sure they are not the only ones who do this.
That link above goes to the campaign mounted by an organization called Change.Org, and they want your name and address. This will put off many people, and frankly I don't know why they want more than an email address, but it might be to protect themselves from some sort of media attack.
Maybe I said this before, but infamous Tyson (The Meat Racket) and others wanted to try to kill a bill before Congress that makes it possible for us to know the "Country of Source" of our meats. This action arose shortly after Smithfield sold off it's entire hog raising business to a Chinese conglomerate (New York Times Article HERE). They, meaning the inbred industry, now do not want us to know where the meat that is in our children's lunches, and that we put on the table, originates. Why could that be?
We have the power to make them change, using our Dollars. Let's do it for the sake of our Children and our Children's children, as well as for the reduction of the massive cruelty in our meat loving food chain.

Tuesday Tails, De Duvs and their nesting, and Wolfie takes a trip.
The doves have raised one clutch of eggs, and I've seen babies on the ground and some fully fledged young birds flying with their parents. THIS page has some excellent information on mourning doves from egg to fledgling.
There are so many doves here, cooing and chasing each other around that I'm hard pressed to know what I'm looking at at times. I do know that the female is very small for a female mourning dove, and that she has been nesting in our yard for a few years. Her mates have probably not remained constant, but she is unmistakable.
The parents are already fending off intruding males and defending their oasis of good things against a torrent of other doves wanting rights to it. I'm sure they will raise at least one more clutch this year. After they lost the very first nest in late wet season to egg thieves, they settled in somewhere nearby and raised two babies who hung around on the ground for awhile, and then learned all the local seed stations, of which there are two that I know of. I don't feed birds but try to have enough wild forage to help them out.
We have more than one place for creatures to get water, and here is one I like a lot...

I had a great time visiting with my kitty sisters, and helping mom to read her book, and taking walks with Pappa. One thing I did learn is that rabbits are not for biting, and they are pretty much useless when it comes to everything else. They only lick themselves and other rabbits unless they trust you, and they don't usually trust you. I can't say I blame them, the call of the wild is in my genes at random times, and I've been known to take off after a bicyclist or two from time to time. Rabbits are no match for a bicycle, thus the caution in getting introduced to Bcakes and his buds. I mean, I just didn't know which end to sniff!
All in all, I guess that Rabbits are more interesting than the big dumb lumps they call Tortoises. Those never run, they just, hiss, and then tuck up and hide. They look just like rocks but smell lots more interesting.
Here I am helping Mom read her book. Mom's a good reader, and she gives me belly rubs during our reading together times.
One thing I did regret was that there just wasn't enough time to go to the beach so I could eat bite the sand and lick it. I love the surf so much you would think I was a surfer's dog. Well, I'm an ex-surfer's dog. That must count. Hang Ten Dudes!
Speaking of the Alpha Male, since we got home, I've been teaching him new tricks. The one he likes best is that when he wants me to come out from under the bed where I'm napping, he goes outside and rings the doorbell. He knows that I'm not going to ignore that, and is endlessly FULL of himself when I come roaring out and barking my head off. I'm going to have to start making him chase me around the house to put in eye drops. That's the next thing I am going to teach him - the joy of the chase! It usually ends up with me hiding under the bed. Hmmm. That door bell thing could mess up my plans. Ah well, Happy Car Rides Everyone! Wolfie, over and out!

Let's talk Booze, Birthdays, and Horse Racing
First, there is the Booze in Question:
Smellyann, this is near to the Cherry Liqueur that I make but I don't put brandy in it. It's time to make it because cherries come to market in June! My recipe is Vodka, lovely sweet cherries and sugar. Mix the right amounts in a big jar, like a thoroughly cleaned glass one that had Mayo or pickles in it. You get these jars from Smart and Final or Costco maybe- if they aren't all now plastic. After the jar has everything in it, screw the lid on TIGHT! It now goes into a dark cupboard to steep like for ever. Actually it's only about a month or so.
Then it gets strained into a couple of wine bottles that have been carefully washed and carefully (hot oven) dried, cork it up and you have yourself a couple bottles of very tasty Cherry Liqueur. There are approximately 10,000 sites that tell you how to do this, with nearly as many different ingredients. My recipe came from a friend, and I'm too lazy to go try to find it. Many of my recipes went AWOL after the kitchen got remodeled.
Today is Elle's Birthday!
And now for something completely different: Horse racing. I was happy to see that none of the horses or the jockeys were hurt. I was not happy about the opportunistic rules that allow a horse to run which has not been risked in the other so called races of the Triple Crown. Triple Crown my arse.

Today, I watched something called, "Tiger Eyes". It was a chick flick tearjerker but I couldn't get past the desecration of Ancient Indiancave dwellings and artifacts or the Spanish speaking Native Americans to call it Watch-worthy. Just call me "old fashioned".
8. Who were you with?
Wolfie and Mr. Z.
9. Last thing you ate?
Apricot, some cheddar, some corn chips and a couple of Lacey's. Yum!
10. The last thing you drank?Water. I'm so boring
11. When was the last time you had your heart broken?
The last time? When Jazzie died.

My neighbor came over with a little House Finch her cat had caught. I sent her home with it after it died, right then, in my hands.

23. If you could have one thing right now what would it be? A great big house that I like in Santa Cruz. I'm not inclined to wish for the dead to be back. It might be very rude to do that.

Mr. Z. He can also make me madder than most anyone alive, but it hardly ever happens.

Reading a book on a new toy that found it's way into my hands!

Costco, or not to Costco.
I just found this article from the New York Times about how Costco operates.
Fantastic, except maybe if they buy articles made with slave labor. Somehow, I think they probably don't but I've not investigated that yet.

This is an (approximately) hour you won't forget. "How Would the Earth Would Be Without a Moon" I'd say that older kids could see this, ones who understand time lines, but not the little ones. They might worry. Heck, you might, too, if you are into Karma. I am both a grown up and a Karma believer, and so it scares the living Bejeebers out of ME!

Saturday 9: Walk This Way

1) This song is about a young man who takes advantage of his "big chance at a high school dance." Share a memory from your high school years.
I literally did not go to a single high school dance. I was a total nerd. I'd like to say right from the getgo that I loved Aerosmith's music. I'm so glad they got together!
2) Lead singer Steven Tyler is the son of a working mother (mom Susan was a secretary). Did your mother work outside the home?
My mother worked all the time on her little farm. That's how she fed her family. I never really appreciated just how hard my mother worked for us. She was a dynamo!
3) Onstage, Tyler takes colorful scarves from around his neck and drapes them over the microphone. Do you accessorize your outfits with scarves and belts? Or do you prefer to keep things simple?
I love the look of scarves, but they have to be light weight and non-scratchy. I used to wear belts, especially with my jeans, but now, there is NO way I going to wear a belt. It feels oppressive.
4) Tyler confessed to having a massive crush on Jennifer Lopez, his fellow judge on American Idol. Do you think a coworker has ever had a crush on you?
No, but I had Lots of Puppy Love and GooGoo eyes for some of my male TAs and Profs. Isn't this a cute little Angel of a Dog??? I want one!
5) Aerosmith lead guitarist Joe Perry says seeing The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964 inspired him to go into music. How did you end up in your chosen profession?
I really don't have a profession. I used to have a business selling at craft shows and similar venues but that doesn't qualify. A Professional Wannabe?
6) Perry's hobby, breeding horses, is very lucrative. What are your hobbies?
Well, I wish I could have afforded Perry's Hobby! I have Hobby Envy now. See what you did? Anyway, mine are limited to reading, gardening, and knitting. I do a little sewing now and again. Also, I'm loving to spend time growing things from seeds and sprouts, and maybe making cherry cordial. Sadly, I can not drink it anymore, but was it ever good while it lasted!
7) Aerosmith performed before their biggest-ever TV audience when they played the Super Bowl halftime show in 2001. Are you a football fan? If so, do you prefer college football or the NFL? What teams do you root for?
I used to love the 9'ers, and the Chargers, and the Bruins, but I'm so out of that now.
8) Now that we're into summer, the days are longer. When is the last time you watched the sun set?
Just a few days ago.....
9) What time did you go to sleep last night?
Almost 1 am. I was reading a novelette about Appalachian Folk. Lordy, how I love ebooks now that I've come into the possession of a tablet droid. Is that right? An off brand? hehe
