While looking for a video of something sweet for animal rescue, I came a cross a few of bear attacks.  so I wondered if the people who perpetuate this slaughter were ever sickened by doing it.  Why don't they go after a grizzly bear's cubs for their fur?  That would be much more sporting, doncha think? Mama Grizzly is more than a match for men with hooked sticks.

Five things I have a passion for:
Gee, only five?  Lessee, four DD's and Mr. Z. Done!  But, Number Six is Dogs!  I want six passions darn it! Mother Earth!  Death to all cancer cells in the world!  That's maybe Eight so far.. 1) This song is from Jesus Christ, Superstar. Though now a beloved classic, the play was controversial when it first premiered. Can you think of something else that originally made people uncomfortable, but went on to be accepted?
Lots and lots of things, though, to be honest, "Jesus Christ Superstar" still makes some people uncomfortable.  Not myself but some others whom I know.  I see it as a great tribute to His life.

2) Jesus Christ, Superstar was originally developed as a "concept album," a collection of songs written to sequentially tell the story of The Crucifixion and Resurrection. Do you remember the first album you bought? Did you download it, listen to it on a CD player, your cassette deck, or record player?  
Yes, and it was a vinyl LP, something classical guitar, and played on my mother's HiFi.  This was before stereo tracts were figured out.

3) When the album's songs were performed live in concert at the Pennsylvania Civic Arena, producers decided to stage it as a play and the rest, as they say, is history. Tell us about a really good idea you've had recently.  
I decided to join a group that does world wide meditation, Synchronously.

4) Jesus Christ, Superstar is a truly international phenomenon. During a revival tour that began in 2011, it's been a hit with audiences in the United States, Canada, Britain, Ireland, Brazil, Hungary, India, New Zealand, Italy, France, Mexico, Chile, Bulgaria, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Iceland, Russia, Poland, Czech Republic, Greece, Australia, The Philippines, South Africa, Panama, Colombia, Croatia, Bolivia, The Netherlands and Portugal. Besides the United States, which of those countries have you visited? 
Mexico.  Olé!  In my next life I want to be an Anthropologist that gets grants to go dig in all the other places, those lucky ducks....

5) Peeps are big sellers every Easter. Would you rather have yellow chicks or pink bunnies?
Neither, unless we get to have the bunnies have sword fights in the microwave -then I choose bunnies.  Otherwise I want a big Chocolate Egg from See's Candy.  Now your talkin...

6) Jelly beans are also popular this time of year. One theory says they were introduced in Boston during the 19th century. What else comes to mind when you think of Boston?
Well, lessee..... There is the annual Marathon,  the Boston Tea Party, Boston Baked Beans, and wow, I didn't know they also were on the map for the intro to jelly beans.  I wonder if they also inspired jelly bellies as they surely inspired another candy called Boston Baked Beans.

7) We've been talking a lot about sweets this morning. The only holiday that generates more candy sales is Halloween. When do you eat more candy: Easter or Halloween?
I'm not much of a candy eater unless it's Christmas time.  Then I can't get enough of it, or rather, I can get too much.  Pacing helps but doesn't always succeed in saving me from myself.

8) Easter lilies will adorn many churches this Sunday. What's your favorite flower? 
I like the wild ones best and then the cultivated ones.  I love and appreciate all flowers, even the stinky ones.   Nature is amazing...

9) Easter is considered the season of rebirth. What makes you feel refreshed or rejuvenated?
A nice long soak in a bubbling Jacuzzi.  I can't wait!  My Doctor practically forbade me to go into that tub without grab bars, which are now on order.

Friday5 redacted

1. Typical Saturday when I was a child.
When I woke up I fed my brother and sister and me, washed dishes fed all the pets and  poultry, cleaned house for my mother who was too sick to do it, then when there was time, We played in the woods or we rode our bikes to someplace.

2. Typical teens?  I helped mother clean house if my brother and I didn't go off to work on a job with our father.  At night I read, played with my little sister, did the dishes, and then my brother and I hung around outside on the swings and smoked purloined ciggies from our mother's pack and joked.  Sometimes we snuck beers out there too.  This started when I was about 13.

3. Typical Saturday now?  DH and I do a little laundry, do a little work on the computer, plan new things for the garden, or go to shelter island once in awhile for fish and chips, come home and watch Netflix. 

4. When did you last spend Saturday at the park.  Last week.

5. Do you prefer to get holidays on Friday, Monday, Or any other day in the middle of the week?
Not at all.  I have no preference at all regarding holidays.  I'll leave that to businesses that run every other human activity under the sun. Let them eat wieners on any odd Wednesday in February,  celebrating  George Washington's Birthday.  Does anyone under 30 even know what day he was born on?

It's been a better day than most.  There was good news from up North, encouraging and so, so sweet! God Bless my Gritty DDs and DD's doctors and her partner!

When sorting and tossing, I found this amazing hank of rough spun rug yarn in a tangle.  After teasing and flipping it around for awhile, a single knotted place appeared.  So, having run out of time to deal with it, I hung it on the same nail as the unpainted birdhouse gourd from our niece, who is also artsy/crafty.  And there it was, Accidental Art!

Life has striven to shred my family's happiness forever.  Those of you who have been through this know first hand how it leaves you trying to find something to get through a day, and hour. a minute with, and this is what I'm cobbling together.  Also weeding the hectare, helps.  We've bought three new buddleia.  All five torts are all out now what with Easter Coming in a week.

This delicious little hat caught my eye when I was looking for a reprint for the GarnStudio sweater pattern that's below here.  HERE is the hat pattern, a little tricky but cute slouch hat with knitted dominoes ( diamonds- sort of) I snagged some of the purple/aqua blend for it,  If the first one goes well, I'll make a pink and purple blend of Drops Delight into another one..

I've reprinted the pattern for the Manly- Beastly Fisherman's knit -, my name for it because I was way over my head on this one and was having a beastly time of it, I have the front and back above the sleeve insets to do, and both sleeves, and the ribbing for the neck.  And "YAY" it was still on their webpage.  I had butchered the first one and needed a whole new print out to (probably) mess up again.  Anywho..here 'tis....

I feel very blessed to be able to do hand knitting.  It keeps my mind focused.  Well, that and watching some amazing people clear a big Highway in British Columbia during ugly winter weather.  Season three better hurry up!!

So, it's knitting, some reading, and some watching Jamie Davis and his Heavy Wreckers Drivers pull flipped and dented big rigs off the Coquihalla, AKA, "The Highway Through Hell" that has so far kept me outta the bars.
I've also rung up a lot of hours of reading and a few climbing through clutter to get it out the door.  This time I'm winning the battle because I really want it gone.  I will never do some of this stuff again.  I'm done, how about the rest of you crafters?  I'm throwing in the towel  on ceramics,

When was the last time you got a nose bleed?  Over 65 years years ago.  It's not my malady apparently.

Do you keep magazines by your toilet? Oh no, yuck.  I can't bring myself to even keep them in a bathroom.  I think it's totally nuts thinking, but that's me. TP is the only paper I can stand to have in there.

If you were a waiter/waitress, would you make good tips?  The only food service jobs I've had were in the school cafeteria, and at a hamburger joint- to earn my guitar money.  I think about 10 regulars would give me tips - so not bad for fast foodies!

Have you ever stolen a road sign or traffic barrier? No, and the reason is that San Diego has a place where you can get salvaged signs all the way from stop signs to regular street signs.  With heavy demand I bet they make extras because it's so lucrative.  I understand why people love them so much.  I'd love to have some but got too lazy to go down for a look.

What are the best kind of Girl Scout cookies? Sorry,  I'm naming three: Samoas. Tagalogs, and Thin Mints.  

When was the last time you purchased alcohol?  I don't do the shopping, so maybe 25 years ago?


Do you find it attractive when a guy actually shows his feelings?  Oh ya.  I love emotive guys from big old teddy bear types to long tall cowboys.  It just shows that they are human.

Are you a fussy eater? Geez, now I am.

How are you sitting? Pretty?  Both feet on the ground?  On a cloud?  I'm sitting in a chair typing this thing out.  Then I'm going to sew a collar on a sweater, having found out how to, and trying to get to sleep after that.

Do you like pretzels? I love them truly, madly, deeply, passionately.

Do you wait until you’ve completely finished a certain makeup product before you buy a new one? 
 I never did wear anything but mascara and eyeliner and lipstick and it's been years since I've used any of that so I call that a marketing fail.  Besides, it enhances my 1800's school marm look.

Did you wake up before 8:00 a.m. this morning? Yes, I always wait to get out of bed though.  A person should at my age.  You need to know if your legs still work.

Have you ever told anyone you were okay when you really weren’t?  Lots of times.  It's the only way to live a life of obscurity with no fussing.

Do you have reason to cry right now?  Crap yes. But you've all heard enought about THAT!

How many sodas a week do you have?  I haven't had a soda for a decade.  I do drink NAB from time to time.  And some sparkling wine at new year's.

Do you shop at Victoria’s Secret?  My sister does.  I can't be bothered.  I'm primarily interested in gardening and building things as sports.

Are you into sports?  Used to be.  I have the funniest cartoon from probably a 1970's Atlantic Monthly.  A Jeeves type (practically black tie) is looking at his plump and tall wife, who is all tricked out in headband, t-shirt, shorts and running shoes.  He says to her, "Dear, I do believe that you are turning into a Jock."

Can you easily touch your toes? I can put both my hands flat on the floor in front of my feet.

What did the last shoes you wore look like? Aquamarine Crocks, which I'm presently living in.

What do you currently hear? The hard drive fan on the cpu.

Have you ever done yoga? I've done Yoga over half my life and still do it a bit from time to time.

1) Crazy Sam's mother is terrified of alligators. Just looking at a photo of one of those scaly reptiles gives her the creeps. Is there a member of the animal kingdom that scares you?  Lions sometimes do, and I don't care that much for leopard sharks.

2) Gators are carnivores, but they aren't picky. If meat isn't handy, they'll munch on fruit. Are you particular about your diet? For example, do you try to eat gluten free, low sodium, etc.?
I eat whatever doesn't make me sick.

3) In Spain, this song was a hit under the title, "Hasta Luego, Cocodrilo." Say something else in Spanish.  Por Que?  La lengua es Iglesia.  Estamos en los Estados Unitos,verdad?*

4) When this week's artist, Bill Haley, was a little boy, he made a guitar out of cardboard and pretended to play that until his parents got him a real one. Tell us about something you wanted so badly when you were a kid.  OMG, I wanted a pony, and then I wanted a horse. 

5) Early in his career, Bill did whatever it took to get the gig. When singing cowboys were popular, the Michigan native pretended to be a cowpoke and renamed himself, "Silver Yodeling Bill." Have you ever fudged on your resume or fibbed in an interview?  No, besides in my jobs, in the sorts of things I applied for, you were better off telling the truth.  Fudge something like that  and you were toast.

6) When his career was going well, Bill was generous and loved to give extravagant parties at his home, which he called Melody Manor. Do you enjoy playing the host? I used to.

7) Bill was blind in one eye, the result of a botched operation when he was a child. Since the blind eye wandered and didn't focus, he always wore a curl over the opposite eye, hoping to draw everyone's attention to the other side of his face. What is there about your appearance that leaves you self conscious?  I'm old and have no self consciousness left about my face or features.  Or the rest of me either.

8) On the other hand, what is it about your appearance that pleases you, and that you would never change?  My bipedal, upright gate, the opposable thumbs and other digits, hand and feet and  four limbs, bi-symmetry, three D vision.                         

9) In 1956, when this song was a hit, Elvis Presley exploded onto the music scene and displaced Bill as rock's top artist. The press and public assumed Bill was jealous of Elvis, but in reality he liked Elvis a great deal. Are you jealous by nature? No. if I'm jealous at all it's by nurture.  
I'm jealous of a woman who has a closet full of neatly arranged Crocs of every EVERY color they were made in.
Bill Haley was a much better all round musician than Presley.  I'm glad to know they were friendly.

2. What’s the big news in your neck of the woods?  I've actually been knitting, and I've finished a sweater.

3. What’s has everyone else raising an eyebrow, but is only getting a shrug of the shoulders out of you? That a bunch of irate people tried to take over Public lands, having been funded, fueled and armed by the right wing of the Corporatocracy.  Meh...

4. What are you keeping an eye on?  I am not keeping an eye on anything in this world anymore save for the beauty of it, which will break your heart with its ability to lift you over into a transcendent reality.  "I am Peace, I am Calm, I am Patience".

5. What’s something you’ve done an about-face on recently? That I know anything at all about Life on Earth.

Nice but naughty?

This book is a knitter's little necessity.  Alas, it informed me that grafting off only works on one and one ribbing.  So, it will have to be a regular cast off and stitching together on the neck edge, which I'm afraid will drive Elle crazy when she tries to wear it.  But, we'll see.

The rest of the sweater can be sewn up decently which is a BOON! And, it's part of what I've done...

Pink Stardust this AM

A newer book which, in my distracted state I actually thought I owned, is coming from the Amazonian Jungle (jk) and will be here on Friday.  I'll see what they have to say about grafting 2X2 ribs.  I'm sorry that it's taken so long, sweet girl.

I believe the whole thing has been knit, in toto, at least 1.5 times, since I frogged the sleeves TWICE!  I will be happy to send it off very SOON with love knit into every, single stitch.

Is your phone right next to you, or at least close by? 
No, it sleeps on its charger at night.  I wish I could stick my plug in a socket and sleep.  Maybe someday that will be what humans do, you never know.  We'll have tails again.  How fun is that?

What windows or tabs are open on your computer right now? 
Only this one is open.  

Is your phone a touch screen? 
Yes, and I like that you can train it.  I wonder if you can train it to scream and then say, " If you touch me there again I will call the cops!"  

Who is the last person to call you? 
My sister who promptly told me we could now start texting.  

What was the last movie you watched? 
"A Room With a View", in fact I watched it two days in a row because a sneaky little one hour nap caught me unawares the first time I tried to watch it.  

What are you doing tomorrow? 
Sewing the rest of the sweater together and locating the various parts of the sweater stretcher

Are you in a good mood? 
No.  I'm not looking forward to trying to find all the sweater stretcher.  It's a chore and a half finding things that have been moved out of the place they "lived in" for a quarter of a century to somewhere only God knows about.  

Do you think exes can remain friends? 
That depends on the individuals involved.

Are you starting to realize anything? 
Yes.  Some very big "anythings"  actually,  1.The iPad makes a very bad substitute for a full on laptop, and 2. It's raining outside!  After ZERO rain in February we are getting a little bit of  rain.  3. I'm going to be sad for a long time.  That's monumental.  

Do you follow rules or break them? 
Usually, in this long life, I keep it to myself but if I think a rule (society more) is stupid, I quietly ignore it.
Are you currently looking forward to anything? 
Well, yes but you didn't say what form that "looking forward to" was occurring, but I'd say I'm looking forward with an element of dread.

Could you go a day without eating? 
Two years ago I did.  It was five days actually, but I was on an antibiotic drip.

How many bracelets do you have on your wrists right now?  
None.  I used to love them but now they drive me batty.  

Do you scream stuff out the car window? 
No but I do scream with the car windows up and the radio blaring.

Do you have reason to smile right now? 
We sent flowers yesterday and the recipient texted back with a little ascii smile.  That makes me smile.

What do you do when you need to relax?

Breakfast!  Yay!  But really, I'm listening to the blessing of rain in a desert.

I am facing it, running around it with a butcher knife and looking for soft spots.

Well enough, and had a nice dream, too.  I dreamt that we lived in a Rockhound colony, and people would just give you big yard rocks that you admired.  I woke up just as I was carrying away a huge piece of peacock stone that a neighbor had just given to me.  The neighbor was a rockhound we once knew.

No, but if I were younger I'd do house trading.

What was the first thing you ate today? 
I haven't eaten today, yet.

Do you have anything more important you should be doing right now? 
No, I'm turning into a big layabout.  But later on I will figure out why the sleeves don't fit on a sweater. Grrrr

I eat it all the time and like it.

What was the last type of meat you ate? 
Some chicken sausage from a farm that raises only humanely raised meat.  I have to eat it or I wouldn't.

What color is your toothpaste? 
I have two - one is green and the other is a grey gel.

Have you taken any medication today? Do you sell medicine at a garage sale? 
 Yes

Have you ever inhaled helium? 
Yes, and as fun as it is, you have to remember you can pass out if you do that too long.  I didn't, and then a scoldy schoolmarm came by and called me stupid for doing such a thing around impressionable children.  I almost got out me six shooter and nailed her,but then remembered that I  wasn't a real sheriff.  This really happened I kid you not.

Have you set an alarm today? 
There's one every day.

Do you keep up-to-date with current news and events?  
Only if it rises up and snatches me bald, do I follow news.

Have you asked someone for advice today? 
Only the invisible man.

What color is your shampoo? 
I'm a no poo kinda gal, and my conditioner is pale green.  Am I selling you this at the garage sale?  No.
Have you watched more than an hour of TV today? 
No, i'm a hidebound TV hater.

Ever wake up early on Saturdays to go Garage Sale shopping?
Not any more.  I HAVE garage sales now.

This book is a must read for all.  Not only will it shatter how a member of the general public sees him or herself as a "human being", but also what they think they should be asking doctors about when they are faced with "gut" issues.

A disturbance in a person's microbiota can hide for months and even years as it slowly wrecks that internal system of  it's cooperating bacteria and creates disease in the pancreas, liver or colon.

It is suspected, in the sequence of prescriptions of antibiotics for children's earaches or other ills,  of setting up conditions that lead directly to autism.  This is brilliant science written in such a way that a person not schooled in that discipline can read and understand.

If you have children or love them, please consider educating yourself so you know what to watch for.
Be informed.  Antibiotics are life savers, but every thing that's put down a human being has its consequences.  We need to be aware of those consequences.

Friday 5 for March 4: Therapy

Hello, and welcome to this week’s Friday 5!  Please copy these questions to your webspace.  Answer the questions there; then leave a comment below so we’ll all know where to check out your responses.  Please don’t forget to link us from your website!

1. How is a therapeutic shower or bath different from a utilitarian shower or bath?  It's not.  They are all therapy.  It's those little negative ions that fill up the room... y'know?  They really help you out.  With the water shortages though I recommend long baths with lots of splashing of the water in the air.  

2. What are your therapy foods?  Do you have different kinds of therapy foods for different kinds of emotional situations?   2A.  My favorites are things I cannot eat or drink anymore.  I'm forced to go it, "cold Turkey".  Come to think of it, that turkey sounds good. 
2B. No, there are no good substitutes for ice cream, or really good french bread, a nice, big, Cadillac Margarita or Gin and tonic.  Bah, Humbug!

3. What physical activities are especially therapeutic?  Going outside and screaming but I had to give that up because, well, *nods left and right*....the neighbors... 911.. etc... Right now I'm into bargaining constantly with superior beings.  They probably wish I'd stuck to screaming outside.  At least the men in the white coats would have shot me full of something already, and put me in a padded cell.... Y'know?

4. When seeking the company of others for therapy, is it better to talk about the issue that’s causing you stress, or to talk about anything else?  Yes, and no.  I can't talk about it very long.  I'm grateful for my 911 first responders - the ones who talked me out of my tree, so to speak, and dearly love them- but after awhile I just go inside my head and try to knit through it. Trust me, it doesn't work.  The problem with that is that the darn free pattern seems sucky, and I keep making stupid mistakes.  This Stardust cardi I'm knitting makes me feel like I'm in that Greek Tragedy about Ulysses.  Only, I'm in the part of his wife, and every night I un-knit- rather than un-weave- everything I did during the day.  I'd call it a nightmare but now I know what a nightmare really is.

5. Sometimes therapy is about maintenance, not crisis.  What regular activities do you pursue for therapeutic maintenance?  I don't maintain.  I trudge and slog like the rest of the world.  This brings to mind, "Breakfast of Champions", the Movie.  I love Kilgore Trout.   ( Yes, I linked the Wiki- you see how low I've sunk?) ;p  Anyway, I love that he says "thank you" to God for giving him a Life not worth living AND the absolutely indomitable will to live it!  

Oh yes, I knit, I read the pattern, I frog.  For me, it is the only true path to insanity.  Insanity which is very under rated in a world that  already has three feet stuck in the mire of Oblivion.  Too strongly worded?
