1. What kind of job did your mom have when you were growing up? 
My mother kept a small farm, as I've said a million times before, and she also worked at a clothing store for the discounts and the money.

2. Have you ever known anyone that’s been on tv, including you? 
No, it just wasn't possible even though we had relatives and friends who were near the "scene" so to speak.  They knew a few.

3. What was the most interesting animal you have seen in the wild? 
I've seen a Sora! Have a Look?.   Fern T and I waded in and waited to see this very elusive little bird.  It's something that I'll never forget as long as I shall live.  

4. What holiday do you enjoy the most? 
Though I don't believe it's the actual birth of Christ, I still love Christmas and putting up the tiny Créche.  I truly love Christmas for the Spirit of Love that permeates it.

5. What was the first video game you ever played? 
PacMan, on our Commodore 64.  Lovely little game.  I sometimes miss it.

6. What is the one thing you own, that if it got lost, you would be bummed? 
My Glasses.  I can't see well enough to do fine work without them. 

7. Do you have a favorite breakfast item? 

Did you know there was an International Bacon Day!

Bacon!  Though it's now forbidden food at my age.  In truth, I could eat a whole slab of it, fried, if it wouldn't make me sick.  A friend in a club we were in would make these lovely broiled hor d'oeuvres out of water chestnuts, brown sugar and bacon that were gone so fast at the Christmas parties it was hard to get more than one.  

8. What do you find yourself buying all the time? 
Books and e books, and shoes.  

9. When was the last time you got a real letter in the mail? 
Do you mean a letter that wasn't printed on a computer?  From my friend in Turkey.  Her hands and mine are not up to penmanship on such a large scale anymore so, now, we email each other.   

10. Do you have a most prized piece of jewelry? 
My mother's little glass butterfly necklace.  You would think that having made jewelry since my teens to give away or sell, I would have something amazing but I don't.  My most prized other things are a couple of little rings found in rubble on streets.  They are worth nothing, really, but they hold a certain enchantment for me.

11. Do you own any board games? 
Let's see.....There's Scrabble, Monopoly and Chess, and some Chinese Checkers.  

12. What chore seems the most daunting right now? 
Cleaning the tile floors.  I have to get them done.

13. Were you born in the state you live in? 
I'm a war baby, so no.  My parents, who were Californians, came back out to California almost immediately when my dad came home.   I was two.  It was a case of "California Here I come, Right back where I started from!" in their case.  Ohio winters were not my parents' cups of tea.

14. Have you ever lived in a house that has been broken into? 
Not while we lived in them, no.  The house we moved out of once was broken down and stripped down to the bare studs after we moved out, but then, it was in a river valley and full of nice knotty pine.  I can't blame the folks who did it. lol

15. What is your favorite cheese?
Brie... Yummm!

16. Who do you know that watches the most sports? 
Probably my Nephew in Law or the Brother in Laws.  They have us all watching the football games, and actually liking it, at Thanksgiving.  DH and I used to be big fans of the local teams back in the day.  I still like to watch Basketball and Soccer.  They are the only two games that move fast enough for me.  Hockey's fast, but just too bloody.  lol

1) This song was chosen because yesterday was Black Friday, the traditional day of sales. Have you begun your Christmas shopping? 

Traditionally, I avoid Black Friday.  So, no.  We don't really buy too much at Christmas, mostly because of having such a widely scattered family.

2) Are there any Thanksgiving leftovers in your refrigerator right now?  

Candied Yams.  Yummmm!

3) AAA says Thanksgiving is a big travel weekend. Did you venture far from home for your holiday dinner?  

Nah.  We went to DH's Sister's house which is a hop, skip and a jump away.

4) Keith Richards likes France but, alas, the French authorities haven't always been fond of him and his criminal record. Have you ever been to France?  

No, and if I had it would have been very hard to convince me to come back!  France is a lovely place to live and a great jumping off place for the rest of Europe, which, unfortunately, was not lost on the Art grabbing Nazis.

5) Mick Jagger jokes that, to be polite to fellow hotel guests, he always finishes trashing his room by 10:00 PM. What kind of hotel/motel guest are you? Are you rockstar rambunctious, or are you quiet? Are you neat? Have you stolen any towels, bathrobes, etc.?  

No.  We are quiet and respectful of property that is re-usable.  We do take the little toiletries items, though, since I know they are tossed.  Jagger came up in the crossword today.  Is he on the move? That is a very funny quote, by the way. Lol  I wonder if he was joking?

6) Mick Jagger got his financial savvy as a student at the London School of Economics. Are you good with money? 

My financial Savvy comes from a very frugal childhood.  I'm pretty good with money but pennies don't scream loudly as they try to leave my hand.  DH is very frugal, too, more so than am I.

We have had some little tussles about this but nothing serious.  We both knew you couldn't have it if you spent it but we did spend on important stuff like health, art stuff, music lessons, dance lessons, and a few vacations.

7) In the early 1990s, a then little-known actress named Angelina Jolie appeared in a Rolling Stones video ("Anybody Seen My Baby?"). Name an Angelina Jolie movie.

I don't know the names of any.  And, to my knowledge, I've never watched one.  I guess she was the model for Lara in the  Tomb Raiders game?  She's a gorgeous gal, inside and out.  I hope she hasn't changed.  
8) In the early 1960s, the Stones nearly avoided tragedy when their tour bus skidded off a bridge. Tell us about a near miss you're thankful for. 

One thing I'll even talk about is something terrible that happened to a relative, but she beat the odds and lived.  I'm very thankful that she came out the end of a long tunnel and still lights the world up with her love and her smile.  She had a melanoma the diameter of a mango on her leg.

9) In 1966, when this week's song was popular, CBS telecast How the Grinch Stole Christmas for the first time. What's your favorite Dr. Seuss story?

I think the Grinch is my favorite, too.  I especially love that movie with Jim Carey!

Give: Give means a lot of things.  Give me a break!  It also means, "I quit!" as in,  "I Give".

I Give....

I will quit trying to make any sense of the violence against Black Americans that constitutes Law in America both in the past and at the moment.

There are police officers in my family; I also, know Peace Officers as friends.  I'll be very frank. What some others of them are doing endangers the lives of every other police officer in ALL of the forces around the country.

I read a book - actually read isn't the word because it was mostly a book of  photographs - while away visiting the kids.  In it was an essay about the life of African American males, discussing, in part, their life expectancy  and why it is so short.  From the moment of birth, fewer of them survive; as the children get older, it starts to be mostly because of violence.  I'm not talking about the violence associated with criminal activity but also because their families are among the poorest in the nation, and the whole pushing down of African Americans from birth to death.  I'm through trying to understand.  I think I know the causes.  It just isn't pretty.  I quit.  I want God to look down, have pity, and straighten this all out.  I want it Now.

That's all I have to say, other than I am so very sad about this.  I'm worried.  I'm angry, and I'm sad.  If you find this hard to read, I'm sorry.  I'm just tired of trying to figure out why we, as a people, have institutionalized this mess and think we should be blaming the victims.

Friday trying to catch up..Accidental Art, about 25 in the series; Wolfie Report; Knitting report, and Shrooms!

It was wonderful to visit with the DDs for the second time in a year.  That part is always the best part of going north.  But I get very behind in the blogging!

Knitting report:

Yes, that's my knitting buddy on the right, curled up and sleeping.

I've finished the Noro Sweater, and Gee tried it on.  I brought it home again to block it on the sweater blocker as the final step.  Wish me luck on this as it's a cardi!   I've only seen pullovers on this blocker.  The sweater is very beautiful, on, though we need to find a suitable pair of buttons for it.  Maybe I'll make some by drilling some shells or hardwood.  Also, I might decide to block the sweater out on the pads but "Oh, Doctor", what a job that would be.

Wolfie report:
Wolfie had a grand old time digging holes and trying to eat whatever he smelled through the sand before Mr. Z. pulled his head back up out of that hole!  Wolfie is completely undeterred by the sand in his eyes or on his tongue - he is so thoroughly engrossed in his "sport".  He has just finished digging three little holes and being jerked up from them.  You can see the trail of "industry" along his right side.  Mr. Z., ever diligent, usually keeps him running along the beach until Wolfie comes to a dead stop and starts to dig.  The battle then ensures!

Major Excitement was caused by these Mushrooms, popping up right behind our spot at New Brighton.  Jimmie IDd them, using her dad's smart aleck phone, and declared them inedible for the most part although they did have psychedelic properties, at least in the Eastern States varieties.  We did not collect them, only took photos, but it was all very exciting!  One of them was huge, I mean it was 8 inches across, probably the Mamma, but someone had tried to pick it and broke it before we got to make snaps.  What were they thinking?

DH said, "Did you get down on your belly to take that?"
Yes, almost!

It was great!

And the final pictures are....

part of my obsessive interest in taking photos of cracked cement and what it collects from seeds that sprout to tiny pebbles.  This, to my eye, is one of the happiest forms of Accidental Art.

What Day is this?

We spent about three weeks at New Brighton Beach and other parts of Santa Cruz.  This photo is of

Very restful time except of one misadventure.  Kanga spat up her Water pump.

I'm not going to make it to Sunday Stealing as there is a big ToDo going this weekend. But I hope you enjoy the rabbit kittens, which I like as much as feline kittens for cuteness. We used to raise Holland Lops for show at 4H while I was homeschooling. There is NOTHING cuter than a rabbit kitten.

In my mind's eye I can still see the tiny, mighty BunBun - all of five weeks old and weighing in at five ounces - "measuring" the cardboard "fence" of her enclosure, and then leaping about ten times her body length to almost clear the darn thing.  We taped on additional cardboard.

I don't think the kits above are Hollands but are babies probably from a similar breed.  Those little kits seem to be too dark in the eye for New Zealands, Below, which are the World's favorite eating rabbit.

When I was young, on mother's farm, we used to eat rabbit, chicken and the occasional bit of ground beef.  I can't imagine eating any rabbits NOW!  Oh that is disgusting!

But, then again, I can hear my grandmother's voice telling my four year old self that we had just eaten venison last Sunday, and "I'd like it just fine on my plate, and didn't I enjoy last week's roast?

Anyway, as we watched safely from the kitchen window - far above the action - Grandfather and the other hunters hoisted up a huge Elk,  and "Processed it".  Unfortunately, Mother had not long before that read Bambi to me.   I was four years old and thought they were hurting the animal because I didn't realize it was actually already dead.  After Grandmother's and my discussion, which I think was the first time I'd ever thought about where my food actually came from, I was pretty solemn.  I knew about milk and eggs, but yummy roasts?  And chicken?

Next time Grandpa went hunting, he brought back some big rabbits, most of which went into a stew.  Grandmother was careful to remove MOST of the buckshot, but hapless me, I got a piece with hair and a little ball of lead shot.  I can still remember the feeling of the fur in my mouth, and remember Grandpa reaching across the table to help me get it out of my mouth.  He didn't want his little Brown Eyed Susan eating that ball of lead!

It's amazing what a person remembers the most about things when they themselves are small.  That little ball of shot took some hair with it into the meat.  I couldn't eat it after that!

1) Tell us about a bad dream you've had.

Many years ago, I dreamt that DH and I were in a land that was on fire in many places, and you couldn't move around very well because it was also very muddy and dark except for the fire light. There were a lot of people in the dream, not really refugees and not unfriendly. We were all sort of in the same situation and trying to solve it and save other people and animals. The sky was a burning red color and the closer that we got to the houses on the edge of a cliff the worse everything got. We all did work together which was the ONLY truly good thing about the dream.

2) Sam is not crazy about spiders. What frightens you, or gives you "the creeps?"

Well, it's not spiders because I like them.  Sorry Sam!  I do understand.  

I am allergic to their little fangs though.  hmmm... I think that people creep me out, but not all of them, just the ones who enjoy hurting others, human or other earthlings.  That's creepy to me.

3) This week's featured artist, Alice Cooper, has always liked to dress up. Performing as Alice, he wears garish eye makeup. In his first group, he and his bandmates dressed as the Beatles. Will you be wearing a costume this weekend?

No, but I was going to dress up DH as a biker.  He can't be here so it "ain't going to happen". 

4) Alice says his makeup was inspired by Bette Davis in his favorite horror movie, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? This Halloween weekend, will you seek out horror movies and scary TV shows, or will you avoid them?

We are probably will watch "Adam's Family Values".  I love that crazy Raul Julia.  Sad that he's now gone.  Funny Guy!  I loved him in "Moon Over Parador".

5) Born Vincent Furnier, Alice used to tell reporters that he and his band got the name Alice Cooper from a Oujia board. Have you ever tried a Oujia board?
Yes, I once had a cute and crazy neighbor who was game for anything, (she is still one of my BFF people).  We would use the board to "divine" different things.  It was loads of fun but don't go taking it seriously.  hehe

6) Alice and his band (also called Alice Cooper) were discovered by music manager Shep Gordon while playing in Venice, California. Have you ever visited Venice, California or Venice, Italy?

Venice, California used to be one of my MAJOR hangouts since I was a student nearby,  and my Roomie at Uni was from there.  I've always wanted to see Venice Italy but it just isn't going to happen.  lol

7) In 1970s England, a morality campaigner named Mary Whitehouse persuaded the BBC to ban Alice Cooper. The ensuing publicity resulted in such a bump in record sales that Alice sent Ms. Whitehouse flowers. Do you believe in censorship? Or should adults be able to choose to see/hear whatever they wish?

Key word is adult.  I do NOT believe in censorship because if you start naming things that adult persons may not see if they want to, that's a slippery slope down which many a nation has slipped-   Nazy Germany comes to mind.  I believe that the major market takes care of things that are just too, too much.  I think it's a good thing to remember the bumper sticker that said, "Everyone is Someone Else's Weirdo".

8) Today Alice has a popular syndicated radio show, Nights with Alice Cooper. Listeners all over the United States, Germany, Denmark, New Zealand, and the UK hear him introduced as, "a man for whom even Dr. Phil has no cure." Do you watch Dr. Phil?

I tried to watch him during the time I tried to watch Oprah, both of whom I liked a lot.  Oprah and Dr. Phil are fun and instructive to watch. Alas, I just couldn't stand the commercials; they just drove me crazy.  

9) Did you get many trick or treaters this year? What candy did you give them?
We never get many now- the neighbors and I were just talking about this yesterday.  Our candy this year was Organic Pops with some Hershey's Kisses for a side.
