Monday Madness: The What Ifs of Life.....

 1. My uncle once...Gave me a ride on his big old Harley.  He rode down to see me in the South.

 2. Never in my life have I...had to the chance to go bungie jumping.

3. When I was five years old, my parents were re-united.  But mother should have kept me away and stayed away herself.  The biggest mistake she ever made was not staying in Ohio with her parents.

 4. High school was...Good in some ways and Terrible in others.  You haven't lived until someone mistakes your last name for a Spanish one, especially in California.   I felt like having my Grandmother send a family tree to the asshats in the administration.

 5. I will never forget to...feed my dog.  He is so precious at the moment.

 6. Once I met 7... criteria for Pneumonia and the clinic just ignored it until I got to see a really good doctor. He gave me some medicines and sent me home with instructions to go straight to bed!

7. There’s this boy I know...Knew... is that watch word.  I don't know any boys anymore.  I met a real gentleman of a boy at a neighborhood party, and we ended up getting married!

8. Once, at a bar, I... Well, I don't really frequent bars, not even oyster bars, so... Let's do a club that has live music?  Anyway, the smoke was so thick but the music so good.  A Jazz Bar downtown.  It's gone now but we went there nearly every month, had a bite to eat and a beer and then went in to watch the show.  It was very cool.

9. By noon, I’m ...ready to start the day.

10. Last night I ...tried to answer these but I was as brain dead now as I am at the moment.  So Duh!

1. Something someone told you about yourself that you never forgot  I forgot this Question!  Now I'm thrashing around trying to think of something that I NEVER forgot?  This is not going to HAPPEN, Folks!

 
2. What are your 3 top pet peeves  You really don't want to know.  Well, having determined that you REALLY DO NOT WANT TO KNOW, I will now tell you.  But I'll tell you 5. 

ONE is Smelly people, 

TWO is Smelly Dogs, 

THREE is Smelly water from a pipe- very peevy- FOUR is Smelly Mud, and 

FIVE is Smelly orange goo that some how got stuck to my shoe, hair, elbow of my coat... 

Wait, you only wanted THREE.  Well, please feel free to pick our own favorites then.

3. List five places you want to visit  I want to visit Oregon, Cannon Beach, and Washington State, Mt. Olympic National Park, and Vancouver Island.

4. Share something you struggle with Worry for the future, but I'm not alone in this.

5. Post words of wisdom that speak to you. "Though you, My Lady Queen, are fair 'tis True, Snow White is now far fairer than you."  Translated to modern vernacular this would read,  "Give it over, you old witch. Your day has come and gone."

6. Something you always think “what if....?” about.  What if I'd gone back to school instead of just giving up after the twins were born. 

7. Five blessings in your life. My Family, Friends from all over the world, Dogs, packaged yeast, so I didn't have to gather it overnight like my grandmas did back in the day, and Love from the Universe!

8. Something that you miss.  I miss my girls. 

9. Post about your zodiac sign and whether or not it fits you. I was born in the cusp between two signs, and both of them fit me quite well. Sagittarius and Capricorn.  Being born in the Cusp means that you can pretty much do any darn thing you like that day and the Universe has you covered.  Yes?

10. Think of a word. Search for it on Google images.  Write something inspired by the 11th image. OMG!  Ok, here goes nothing...You've not used the NEW Google image search have you?  It's a MAJOR PITA.  Ok then... Waldo OK.. I've tried three OTHER Words with no success so never mind... Besides I have nothing at all to say about Waldo because he was my fourth word choice anyway, so this puts my words outside the realm of decent Psychological Profiling. 

11. Write about an area of your life that you’d like to improve.  I would like to improve my health.  This is something with which I've been struggling for about 15 years.  It's two steps forward, one back, and sometimes it is two steps forward and THREE steps back.  At this point I'm going to throw in the towel and just eat ice cream Every. Single. Day! 

12. What made you laugh out loud today.  Today, as I recall, I didn't laugh at all. It wasn't a giggle day either... I might have giggled at a Saturday9 pal's answer to something.  Can't recall.  I will consult my diary.....Yes, I do believe I did LOL at a few things from the Niners.

 13. What are your goals for the next 30 days.  I plan to get up, stand up, eat breakfast, clean up one or two little messes, and eat some Soy Ice Cream. 

14. Your highs and lows for the month.  Let's see, I get high about every other day, and then I stay in bed the other days so that's about as high as I go and as low.  It's not possible to lie down on the floor anymore.

15. Favorite movies that you never get tired of watching. "Cold Comfort Farm", "Milagro Beanfield War", "Princess Bride", "Enchanted April", "Emma", "Pride and Prejudice", "Sense and Sensibility" and "Addams Family Values". All the Christmas Movies, with a new favorite in the one, "The Christmas Chronicles", with Goldie Hawn and Kurt  somebody or other.  Russell... heehee

16. Books you have read more than once.  All the Joseph Conrad books, and let's see.. all the Holy Bibles that came out in the 20th century, all the Tony Hillerman Books, Will and Arial Durant's History of Western Civilization.  I've reread most of the Ami Tans, and the Maive Binchy's, and Jane Smiley- god she is a good writer- And a lot more.  I tend to read a lot and never stop for anything because it would be abuse to me to not be able to read books.

17. Something about which you feel strongly. I feel very strongly that we are in great danger at this point. I'm praying for the Military, just about the only thing I trust to do the right thing anymore. No not the militarized police, but the Marines!

18. Five things that make you really happy. Not in any particular order... One is Gardens in bloom and thriving. Two would be the natural world like the parks and seacoasts. Three is seeing little kids having a good time playing. Four is smiling at my hubby, Five is being with my children and sharing a meal.

19. What are you excited about?  That we live in the Best of All possible worlds!  It's a joke.. comes from Candide 

20. Three celebrity crushes Mon Dieu!  I just discovered they are all dead! Oh, the Irony!

 Saturday 9: Do You Want to Dance? (1972)

This week, we're inspired by The Divine Miss M's plea for a definitive answer. Here are nine random "yes or no" questions. Naturally you're welcome to elaborate, but if you want to zip through with a Y or an N, that's fine, too.
 
1) Do you check your cellphone first thing in the morning? No, because it's in another room.
 
2) Are there dirty dishes in your sink right now? No.  They get washed once a day, every evening, and right now it's 2:45 am. 

3) Have you laughed yet today? Not yet, but it will happen when I read my cell phone messages.

4) Have you written a check in the last week?  No, but THAT never stopped me from spending money before.

 
 

5) If you met someone who shared all your strengths and weaknesses, would you like him/her?  I'm not sure.  It depends on whether or not we shared the same sort of ironic/Quirky humor. As in, if they thought that the Addam's Family was real... or not.

6) Is a bride ever too old to have a big wedding? Heck, I don't care about that.  I've been to weddings that were second ones, re-vowing, etc,  and the brides were all gorgeous. It's their day and more power to them. It was a treat.

7) Do you put potato chips in your sandwich to make it crunchy?  I've always wanted a peanut butter and potato chip sandwich, but no, not usually.  Also, I want to make a Fritos and mustard sandwich, after seeing the movie, "The Breakfast Club".   I'd just PILE them up on the middle!

8) Have you ever taken a nude photo of someone (not a baby)? Nope.. Something to add to the Bucket List, is it?  Oooo.  I need a new camera with a massive telephoto lens. Or, maybe a drone?  How exciting!

Monday Madness: The Nobody Loves You When You're Down & Out Questions:


1. When did you last feel down and out?  Really down and out?  Four years ago in June.

2. What do you do to feel sexy?  That would be... never...

 3. If you could be somewhere else, where would you be and why?  I'd be living in Santa Cruz, because that's where the whole of my being wants to be.

4. What have you always wanted to do?  I've always wanted to be a special ed teacher.

5.  What do you appreciate the most about your life at this time?   I can still walk and get around on my own, and I am still with the Love of my Life.

6. If you could be someone else, who would you be and why? I know this isn't what you want to hear, but I don't want to be anyone else and have never wanted to be anyone else.

7. Have you ever made a fool of yourself? If yes, spill.  Giving an Elegy.  It was at a notoriously noisy cemetery, and a jet came over.  I paused and looked up and made some inane but not profane statement, but it was likely NOT the thing to do. 

8. What have you always wanted to do but haven't?  I've always ALWAYS wanted to live and sail on a boat around the world.

 9. What do you think about the talk about traveling to Mars?  Not interested in it in the least.  Mars would take a year to get to, I believe.  What a waste.

10.  If you could bring back someone who has passed, who would it be? George Washington, because I would enjoy watching him snatch "someone" bald.  Care to guess who?

Blogger's fix for YouTube work around in HTML didn't work

I tried several weeks ago, as soon as the trouble arose in the system, to insert the code that would solve the problem with not being able to embed YouTubes.  Since  I'm a good HTML wrangler, I thought, "No problem, I'll just insert the code that was suggested.  Trouble is, it didn't fix anything. Bah! 

 I know there is an HTML fix offered by some coder on the web, but I tried it from the getgo and couldn't get it to work.  It has since disappeared. 

Also!!!  

Now that I have used Blogger's new interface for a couple of weeks there is apparently, no going back, since the switch that used to appear in the side bar in my editor is no longer there.

Gratitude

1. A person I’m glad to have in my life.

My husband.  I would find it difficult to not have him in my life.  

But this is also going out to my daughters, and I'm so glad to have them in my life.

2. Something I find comfort in.

My Quaker faith.  I find comfort in it's simplicity and it's purity of purpose and unfailing devotion to the ways of Christ and to duty to my fellow human beings.

3. My favorite part of the morning

Waking up and opening the window to listen to the birds singing in the cape honeysuckle bushes.

4. My favorite memory

When I fell in love with my tiny daughter Laura.  I wish I could have been a flawless mother, because they all deserved that.  

5. An accomplishment I’m proud of

Raising four absolutely Color Blind Daughters... 

6. An opportunity I’m grateful for

I'm grateful that I was born here, in the US,  and that I've lived most of my life (except two war years) in California.  I can't imagine living anywhere else,  and am grateful that I've never had to leave the west coast.

7. My favorite song (and why)

I love Hallelujah song by K.D. Lang.  But I'm not sure if it's my favorite.  I love so many songs by her.  I've put it up in the post below...

8. A future event I’m excited about.

Well, it goes without saying that I hope I can wake up and this nightmare will be gone.

9. My favorite area in my home.

I love the Great Room though it could use a good clearing out!  I need to sell off equipment and stuff and make that room back into it's former beautiful self. 

10. Something beautiful I saw today.

Sorry, I guess it could be that the sky is blue again.

11. My guilty pleasure.

I've developed the habit of staying in bed until noon and doing the crosswords and reading and drinking my tea while the birds sing outside for their breakfast to arrive.

Their joy in being alive and their kindness to everyone they meet.

That "someone" dear to me said that they were glad to have met me. Totally cool!💕

My mother's sunglasses and Gloves from when she settled in Hollywood.

I'm grateful that we can march and show our displeasure over events without some death squad showing up and arresting us.

By loving them and listening to them.  And sometimes a little party but that's pretty much over.  I want to be sure to have at least a few tea, cake, and knit parties when this is over!

Saturday 9: Frankie and Johnny (1966)

1) When this record was initially released in 1966, it never cracked the Top 20. Critics were harsh, saying that Elvis had not kept up the times. How about you? Do you consider yourself up-to-date on today's music?  I consider myself a musical Luddite.


2) The song is about a woman named Frankie and Johnny, the man who does her wrong. Who is the most recent person to do you wrong? (It doesn't have to be in romance; it could be the person who cut in front of you in line at the supermarket.  I was called an "*ucking Idiot" for gently saying that a certain item wasn't what the poster thought it to be.  

Scientifically, they were dead wrong, and after they told me off,  I told them that.  It wasn't a matter of opinion.  It just was fact over fiction.  I just didn't want anyone to buy a pig in a poke from someone and be expecting to have the real deal.  Sometimes I hate the internet.

3) Elvis sings that Johnny cheated with "a chick named Nellie Bly." The real Nellie was an estimable woman, a pioneering 19th century journalist. Can you think of another song that mentions a real person?  Not really, but I do know that Carly Simon wrote a song that was pointed toward someone -Warren Beatty I think- being so vain that she sung " I'll bet you think this song is about you, don't you?"

4) This song was recorded for a movie by the same name. Elvis played a riverboat gambler. When did you last play a game of chance?  It has to be years and years ago.  1988?  We were all camping at Hurrahs out in the desert and as I walked in to eat dinner I spotted a line of one armed bandits.  So on the way back out, I put a couple of quarters into the end machine.  Big spender, I know. lol

5) Actor Harry Morgan had a supporting role in the movie. He's remembered as Officer Gannon on Dragnet and Col. Potter on M*A*S*H. Gannon was a good cop but could be particular about his food and surroundings. As a career soldier, Potter didn't mind roughing it every now and again. Which character are you more like: fussy Gannon or outdoorsy Potter?  I'm more like Potter.  But now it's no more tent camping but having an off-roading Bounder has been really nice.  We took it all the way up Milpitas Wash the first year we got it. Beginners Luck!  We felt so proud! We were crazy back in the early 90's.  It was a GAS. The map showed a road, we went up it.  We were lucky to get through as the rains had washed out the darn thing. Our camping buddies were shocked to see us coming up from the south through the wash instead of off the highway!

6) Elvis' leading lady was Donna Douglas. She filmed her part during her summer hiatus from TV's The Beverly Hillbillies. Have you ever had a summer job? I had a child sitting job for a working mom and got to take care of a couple of really angelic little boys, a new born and his three year old brother.  Also I was a library aide, and worked another summer at a Dairy Queen.

7) Though not remembered as an actor, Elvis was a bona fide movie star. In 1966, he was listed (with Paul Newman, Sean Connery, John Wayne and Richard Burton) as one of the world's biggest box office draws. Who starred in the last movie you watched? "It was Sharknado3 Oh Hell No!" , and the stars were Ian Ziering  and Tara Reid.  There were two notable political has beens in it, Michael Bachmann and Ann Coulter, who played the role of the VP, Sonya Buck. It's a horrible movie but then all that series are!  Crazy fun.

8) In 1966, Lauren Bacall appeared on the cover of Time with the headline: "The Pleasures and Perils of Middle Age." She was 41 years old and starring in a hit Broadway play. In the article, she explained that in middle age, she had come to understand that "character and a sense of humor are the two things that will carry you through." Tell us about something you understand better or appreciate more today than you did when you were young.  Just about anything that old age doesn't offer, like Agility and stamina... But,  the trade off is wisdom and discretion. Really, not such a bad trade.

 Not yet, but thanks for reminding me what day it was on.  I thought it was today, Thursday, and went looking for it.  This Monday and next Monday are going to be challenging.  But I will try!

Russian Interference and a New Voting Commission

Dan Coats, a former white house appointee of trump, wrote an OP ED for the New York times about what he thinks is necessary to assure all American Voters that their votes will be counted.  I include the link.

 Christopher Wray, the Director of the FBI under trump,  has reported that the Russians have stepped up their attacks, through social media, on Joe Biden.

I won't plant anything until after the first rain.

The whole Earth is a Garden.

3. What's the first thing that comes to mind when you think about God?

"Forgive, Oh Lord, my little jokes on Thee, and I will forgive thy Great BIG one on me."

4. If we were chatting in person, how would I know if you were nervous.

I'd laugh or tell more jokes, I think. And, I'd probably eat more if there were any food around. 

5. Do you like the color yellow? Would I find any in your home or wardrobe?

Yellow is my favorite color 

6. Daffodils, tulips, roses, sunflowers, day lily, black-eyed Susan...which yellow bloom on this list is your favorite?

What happens if I love them all dearly?

7. Flip flops or bare feet? 

Bare feet.  I've always been a barefoot girl.

8. Fish out of water, big fish in a small pond, living in a fishbowl, packed in like sardines, this is a fine kettle of fish, plenty of fish in the sea, fish or cut bait...which fishy phrase most recently applies to some area of your life?

"Fish or cut bait."  I want to cut all social media loose, but can't seem to do it because people I love are all there, from friends, family and all the way  to reporters I trust to keep telling the truth. Istagram has been fundamental to staying in touch with the fires in California. 

9. Have you ever been fishing? Did you catch a fish? If so did you keep it or throw it back? If you haven't been fishing is that something you'd like to try?

I love to fish. It was something that, if I'd had the time to do more of, I would have.  Surf casting in Imperial Beach, a long and empty beach in the 60's, was a beautiful place to surf cast.

10. What's something you're always fishing for in your purse, wallet, desk, or kitchen junk drawer?

Junk Drawer, that would be a rubber band of twist tie for the trash bags.

11. Your favorite fish tale or movie?

I've never seen a more beautiful movie about the sea, than Whale Rider.  The trailer is below this post.  Because I can't put any video into a post anymore.  Thanks for nothing, Blogger.

12. Are you sunrise, daylight, twilight or night? Explain why you chose your answer.

I Love them all because I get to be alive during them all.  Since I can't even imagine what this question means but I'll tell you all why I like them all.  

I like sunrises and Twilight the best for the colors of them, and Daylight is great for getting things done between naps.  

Night is good for stargazing and looking for constellations.  

13. What's the oldest piece of clothing you own and still wear?

I still have an army fatigue jacket from the 60's.  That is, if some errant teen didn't steal it from me one year when my back was turned.  

14. What's been the best and worst part of your summer so far?

It's hard to think of what was even good about this summer. ZERO!  

The Worst part is this record breaking wild fire season under a quarantine from Covid19.  

15. Are you a Jimmy Buffet fan? If so, what's your favorite JB tune

I like Jimmy Buffet so much!  Ok, Fanmania over.....  I like "Come Monday" for the lovely music and the mix of voices in the whole thing, and the Hawaiian vibe.  His more popular songs are "Margaritaville", and "Son of a Sailor".

A lot of stuff.  Everything I need is on it.

No one Except a doctor calls me, so that's who it would be.  The rest of us text.

 
3) The video was filmed at Stabler Arena in Bethlehem, PA. It seats 6,200. As the nation reopens from Covid19, would you feel comfortable sitting knee-to-knee with a stranger in an arena like this?

Not a day time one.  But I couldn't get enough of the old Addison one.  What was that called? 

 5) Whitney had a sweet tooth, and her favorite breakfast cereal was Fruity Pebbles. Do you often eat cereal for lunch or dinner?
No.  I don't feel it's very appealing.  Not much about food is appealing but I still love pastas and rice dishes. Actually we don't even have any breakfast cereal in the house anymore.

6) At Whitney's wedding to Bobby Brown, her bridesmaids all wore lavender dresses and the groomsmen had custom made alligator shoes. Have you ever "stood up" for a friend or relative? If so, do you remember what you wore?
My sister, and I wore a navy blue "Church-going" dress.  She got married in Balboa Park.

7) In 1987, the year this song was popular, Cher won the Oscar for Moonstruck. Her most famous line was, "Snap out of it!" When you think of Cher, do you first think of her movies, her TV show, or her music?
I have always liked Cher, her music and all her movies.  I'm sure I haven't seen all of them but only most.  I never even knew she had a TV show or I probably would have watched it.  Lol

8) Michael Douglas won the Oscar that year for Wall Street. His most famous line was, "Greed is good." His character goes on to say that, "Greed in all its forms -- greed for life, for money, for love, for knowledge -- has marked the upward surge of all mankind." Do you agree?
Obviously not.  I think that this sort of greed has been the downfall of Modern Civilization. I don't think Knowledge belongs in that collection of Greeds, either.  Any, more than anything else, the thirst for Knowledge is even a Noble Art.

9) Random question: When you woke up this morning, were you ready to get out of bed? Or do you wish you could have snoozed for a bit longer?
Since I don't sleep more than a few hours at a time, I usually get out of bed and then settle in with my book and less and less, to social media.  In days gone past, I couldn't wait to see what had hit Twitter.  Now, not so much.

Thursday Thirteen: Old Saws: Sayings from the days on the Farm.

 You can find this Meme HERE, as well as Linkie that lets you read other participant's offerings.

 NOTE: to the other respondents to Thursday 13.  I tried to leave a comment on three others’  feeds and failed numerous times.  Then I tried to leave a comment on the Meme home.  No luck for me there, either.  I love the meme but if I can’t figure this out, I won’t feel comfortable doing it. Sorry.  I’ll probably always read it.  Wishing you happiness in everything.

Today’s 13..  

I. "In for a penny, in for a pound" When I was small, I could never figure this one out, and this is because, well, I'm not British. 😄

II. "He who laughs last, laughs best."  This has been a very worthy saying for many issues in my life.

III. "That which does not kill you, only serves to make you stronger." Amen, Amen...

IV. "Least said, soonest mended."  I still have the image of my grandma, hand sewing, when I hear this.

V. Grandpa: "If I had a penny for every time I heard that, I'd be a rich man."  He wasn't rich but he was kind and very honest.

VI.  "Waste not, Want not"  And, boy, let me tell you, in the War Years, no one wasted ANYTHING.   

They, meaning my Grandpa, Grandma and Aunts, had all been through the Great Depression, and it left an indelible mark on the people who had been.  

My grandpa was a heavy equipment operator and mechanic.  So he and grandma and their four daughters traveled with the work.  They lived out of a car.  My youngest Aunt was a babe in arms and the other girls were various ages but all small.  My grandmother's hand crank Singer sewing machine came along, and she made clothes for her girls,  and she did trades for this skill by making, mending or altering clothes for others, too.  The girls had the duty of turning the crank while she sewed.

I once had a photo of them all by that old car, but a lot of my old photos from that time disappeared when they were "borrowed" by siblings.  This explains why the next old saw is:

VII.  "Forgive and Forget"  I remember someone being told that, and their retort was, "Ya?  Try it sometime". 😝

VIII.  "A watched pot never boils."  Go do something else or you'll drive yourself, and me, nuts. 

VIV. Mother's Old Saw.... It's really not for pruning but she sometimes used it for that.  

                                      It is an old saw, yes?


X.  "Needs Must".  Which is really another old saw, init? 😉

XI. "Let a smile be your umbrella".  When we were a little sad, my aunts and grandparents would say this... I was only five and I thought, Gee, a frown was more like it. ☂️  Upside down umbrellas were smiles.

XII. "Don't count your chickens until they are hatched."  So apropos for this modern age.

XIII. "Least said, soonest mended."

My sister in law.  She's the sweetest person.  She also cares a lot about other people and always has.  She's very joyful, too.

The only one I can think of is Liz Taylor.  A least a half dozen people in my life have done so.  It's weird.

I didn't wake up dead?

I'd bank roll my kids who are all suffering in this pandemic.
 
6. My last night out in detail....
I think it was Christmas at our Niece's house.  It was fun.  Since then it's been nothing but Corvid19 and re-runs on Netflix.
 
7. Something that makes me sad when I think about it....
I'll give you three guesses.  Come on, this is interactive after all.  I don't want to share anymore sadness that I will with the other questions.
 
8. Something I’m currently worrying about...
Trump, and his odious crew, stealing another election.

The consequences, the people in earshot, the ???  Well, I will tell you that I daydream in the middle of reading books... connecting invisible dots.
 
10. A drunken story...
When my daughter died, I finally had to have some relief  from living "Life at the Moment".  So, I drank a half a bottle of Gin (in the form of Gin and Tonics, which was a lot of them) and with which we had a popcorn dinner.  

My younger daughter called, and I told her.  She said, "Mom, you don't even drink!"  I said yes, but if I didn't drink this time I would run screaming into the night with a butcher knife - or some such nonsense.  Anyway, we talked for a long, long time.

 
1. Something I regret...
I regret not going back to finish my degree after the twins were in school. I really badly regret this.

Empty rice bowl from lunch, a mug of tea, a box of tissues, the keyboard, and the printer.
 
13. Something I’ve lied about...
I will sometimes fib about not being mad.  It's because I am still struggling with anger inside that desperately WANTS OUT IN THE FORM OF SERIOUS BODILY INJURY.

15. My longest relationship...Outside of my family?  Ok, that would be the one that I have with my friend Meffie.  We go WAY WAY back to when I was 16 and she was 15, in High School. She was an exchange student at my high school. She's grown into an amazing woman who speaks a bunch of languages and translates books into and out of all of them.

1) We're celebrating the last holiday of summer by going country. Who is your favorite country music artist?  Hank Williams, always  Video  is ..... Down below this post.... 

2) Gretchen Wilson sings that on Tuesdays, she gets up before dawn. This morning, did you awaken on your own, or did you need an alarm clock?  I usually awaken around 4 am, unless I've been awake all night.

3) She tells us that she doesn't waste her time on manicures or spay tans. How about you? MOI?  Have you recently spent any money at the salon?   BUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA  

4) She sings that she's the first to clock in at work. Have you ever worked a job that required you to punch a time clock?  Yes, as a telephone operator I had to punch a time clock.

5) Gretchen Wilson says she is a big fan of McDonald's and tries to eat there once a day when she's on tour. In terms of sales, America's 3 most popular fast-food lunch destinations are McDonald's, Starbucks and Subway. If you could choose a gift card to one of those three, which would you select?  Starbucks please.  

6) Gretchen has endorsed Redneck Riviera Whiskey. What's your favorite adult beverage?  I don't have it much but I like a small glass of Moscato, and sometimes, Marsala.


Since this Monday is Labor Day, the holiday established to celebrate the American worker … 

7) Approx. 10% of Americans are self employed. Have you ever been your own boss?
Yes, I did custom sewing and alterations for a time, and then sold my crafts at shows around the county.

8) According to Monster.com, 50% of workers have left a job to get away from a boss. Are you one of the 50%? Only once... I had a boss in a Super yarn store who liked to torture her workers, psychologically, and was good at it.  She was a really, deeply disturbed, mean person whom no one liked.  I ended up quitting my job.

9) Farmers feel the impact of extreme weather events. Have you ever had a job that required you to be outdoors most of the time? Yes, but since it was a sort of perennial summer job, in California, it wasn't a problem.  The bad weather of winter never factored into it.

Thursday 13: The mostly begone flowers of my life... A Bittersweet Journey.

 I was spinning through the photos one day last month, and decided that there weren't enough flowers in the blogasphere, so here are a few from my life.  I hope you like this little "Rose Parade".  

I've finally found two paths to getting photos, the originals and the doctored ones made into Headers for this blog.  I'm soooo happy.  I thought the New Blogger had blown away the connection to google photos, but happily, it still exists.

1. Trescony Gardens Gladiolus Bloom stalk.  It is the palest of pink that fades to white.

 

2. Common Dandelions from somewhere .. It has it's own day on the calendar, does the Dandelion.

3. This is the back yard Cape Honeysuckle That I used a little program on to make it look like a painting.  I don't think the program even exists anymore.  More's the pity, as it was an excellent one.

4.Dalia blossoms from the Santa Cruz farmer's market one year.  As you can see, I made a header out of this.

5. My once plentiful bearded iris are no more.  The Tortoises ate them all up.  I'd never get another tortoise.  They are so destructive in a garden and they can climb a two foot wall of bricks.  Rock walls?  No problem at all.

6.  A favorite and nostalgic flowering plant.  It came from a cutting of my mother's plant.

7.This Orchid is a beauty.  It lived for quite awhile but Orchids are tough if you don't have a special room for them. 

8.This rose is very old, planted in the late 70's, It is still going strong.  It's called Sunflare,  and I love it.

9. A Gorgeous little bi-color Carnation from a farmer's market bouquet.  Hubby used to bring me flowers every week from the farmer's market.  I miss them but these are trying times.  Must not be crabby.

 

10.Another Dahlia, I think, from a farmer's market bouquet.  But, they could actually be Mums.  The pink flower just below it in the shadows is a Gazania, and it was named after the 15th-century Greek-Italian scholar Theodorus of Gaza. 

 

11. My sweet and tiny pink Day lilies of bygone times.  I wasn't able to go into the garden for over a year, and the tortoises knocked down the chicken wire ring that I put up around my little plants and ate them all up.

12.  Another beautiful Bouquet, one of the ones sent to my daughter in Santa Cruz. 

13. Last but not least, The Scarlet Pimpernel that grows in spring and flowers in time to help the itty bitty Sooty Foot butterflies make it another year.  They use this and the Oxolis flowers to sustain themselves.  At one and a quarter inch wingspan, aren't much bigger than a housefly.  They are Jet black! They are unbelievably tiny.
