Update on the hurt Pelican

We were told that it was rehabbed to the permanent flock at Seaworld. It lost the wing, which isn't surprising. The permanent flock is very safe from troubles. Pelicans that hang around bays usually look to humans for hand outs and free meals anyway, and many a fisherman at the pier has lost a nice fish off the line to these birds.  Posted by Picasa

Wild Honeysuckle Berries

The new camera really makes an otherworldly picture if you press the right buttons. I'm not sure I like it. Anyway, the little chipmunk came and ate these berries as I watched out the back window. We'd never seen anything else eat them, so I'm glad that it had them to itself. The squirrels probably got most of the acorns. Incidently, I miss my calming knitting. The postcards are labor intensive, like quilts. I'm not sure I'll make many more quilts when it comes right down to it. Maybe ones with hearts on them. I love those. Yes. Hearts... I'll do that, and the baby quilt for my grand Niece.  Posted by Picasa

Unpolished pieces

These are just the way they come out of the ocean. You can't collect in Big Sur anymore on the beaches. You have to dive for jade now, but it's worth it. When these are hand polished they are going to be fitted into a small Zen garden. I'll make a little wooden rake for the sand base. Is that fun or what? ;o)  Posted by Picasa

Jade and basket

  Posted by Picasa

Can you find the Big Sur Jade?

It is gloriously surrounded by the new yarns and a new market basket from Santa Cruz farmer's market. If you go to this area at all, be sure to stop in and look for the basket seller there. The baskets are "free trade" and made by women in Ghana. Incidently, I thought the jade would make a fabulous yarn color for a spinner someday. *Hint Hint*

DD1 and DD2 kidnapped me one morning and we all lit out for their favorite LYS. Using their "gift certificate", I came away with a goodly amount of Kid Mohair, for lacey shawls, a bit o the grey for a smoke ring scarf. It will go with some gray mohair/wool blend from the stash. DD2 found me a great book which I will piccify when DH brings it in from the Bounder. And I got the last length of Addi's for Gretchen, the yarn for which is now wound into pull skeins.

We had a great time and they called it a kidnapping because we also went off to a fabulous Pottery store, where they got a new front porch bamboo setee for their cats-and yes, the cats agree that is is indeed, theirs- and some pots for the one millionth container plant in their garden. When you rent, portable gardens seem very much "IN". We also visited two fabric stores where DD1 found two grand indi patterns, and then they took me home so I could collapse in a ball on the big, round bamboo chair.   Posted by Picasa

More Eye Candy!

Leaving you with more beauty to contemplate

Farmer's Market Dalhia. I will be back soon with a surprise my DDs took me on to a LYS!  Posted by Picasa

Jade Festival to aid a school in Big Sur.

Tomorrow I will tell you about this amazing little jade festival where, if you have the money, you can take home Huge pieces of beautiful polished California Jade. It is different than most other jades as it's patterned. I'll show you some small pieces that I managed to get a good price on for two small zen gardens.  Posted by Picasa

Knee Highs of Flea Market yarns.

She is very proud of these because she made up her own pattern.  Posted by Picasa

Another Lace Sock

I think these are all Nancy Bush's long green book but don't quote me please?  Posted by Picasa

And another Sock Maniac is out of the closet

DD's Nancy Bush socks. I'm just going to show your all her most recent four pair one after the other, since she's been knitting and I *cough* have been playing my Ukelele. *Hangs Head* I found that it stayed tuned for a year and I forgave it.  Posted by Picasa

More Bunnies

DD is so in love with these bunnies that she is soon going to have whole baskets of them. I think these are the parent bunnies.  Posted by Picasa

Branching system of the Sycamore

This tree is one of the most beautiful subjects for sketchers and painters because of it's lovely ways. This was right outside the Bounder dinette window at King City on the morning we left for home. It looks like it was made for a Chinese Ink Drawing.  Posted by Picasa

May you walk with Beauty all around you

This is my wish for all who read here. I find beauty nearly everywhere I look now. These Hollyhocks (gee I hope that's right) were growing up and over the side walk by a telephone pole gyewire. Got seeds!  Posted by Picasa

We went to Italy or did we?

This was so much like a Hillside in an Italian Painting from the 15th century but it's just a hill in Malibu, behind an Italianate Albertson shopping center, on the way to Central Coast. They did sell Italian breads and wines in the Albertsons. Hee hee. I'd better get some knitting in here darn soon!  Posted by Picasa

And away we gooooo

I didn't knit a stitch on my projects when we went to visit our daughters but I did appreciate my DD4's knitting. These little bunnies went to the farmer's market when DD3, who is DD4's twin. Both little bunnies said that they had a very good time  Posted by Picasa

Five Weird Things About Me

My friend, Rissa, has challenged me to put up Five Weird things about me. Be sure to read her blog, too.

This task was a little hard for me to do because most of my quirks are normal in California. Having said that, I have dug very deeply to ferret out five things.

1. I love wild hair colors. When I'm totally gray I hope to be brave enough to use them, and not just on Halloween.

2. There is only one thing I am superstitious about and that is that I must, absolutely without fail, shampoo my hair twice when I wash it. The reason is this. When I was a newlywed, I read in a National Geographic, or some darn place, that a group of Greek fishermen's wives superstitiously shampooed their hair twice, whenever they washed it, because if they failed to do this their husbands would die.

3. I believe that plants talk; not just trees talk but all plants have a language. Of course it goes without saying that I also believe animals talk, too. The weird part is that sometimes I can hear them.

4. I cry when anything I don't want to die, does, even little butterflies. I just can't help it, out come the tears. Being a knitter, tiny moths which might be harmful to my stash are never cried over. I just kill them as fast as I can get my hands on them. They don't get the "kleenex escort" out to the great outdoors to a new life and freedom. For this reason, I know I've got a killer's instinct. I also think I've been killing innocent ones who have nothing to do with wool, since reading a forum on moths in the KR. (See Button for link and then search "moths". You will see that I've been killing the innocent flour moths around here.)

5.I have a phobia about people peeking in the Bounder windows at night. I scotch tape the blind down to the door. This annoys my DH's no end, as he has to take the dog out for all midnight peedles, and the blind is in the way. I am not this way at home. Well, I'm not too much like that. I don't really care if the neighbors in back can see in. This phobia has arisen because when I was five years old we lived in a divided house. It was right after WWII and we shared our house and a single bathroom with another family. One day, when I was taking a bath, I saw some shadows. It was the neighbor boy and a couple of friends. He started laughing and telling me everything I was doing in the tub. He'd been at it for months. My Dad threatened him with his life, and his family shortly moved out. We took back the house.

Gee, I'm thinking of who to tag. I was away for almost a month so I'm sure the "Weird MEME" has passed into every blog in the KR. Anyone else wants to go for it, please do so, and I hope to read all about it on your blog.

Just remember, weird is not crazy. The President isn't weird. He is crazy. That's what makes him so dangerous to all living things. He thinks he's normal and blessed, but we are wise to him now.

EEEEEEvil!

You Are 16% Evil

You are good. So good, that you make evil people squirm.
Just remember, you may need to turn to the dark side to get what you want!

Gee I wonder if this will work. If not I will have to seek revenge and with a very long thin blade! Buhahahahahahahaha!

I'm sorry but they just didn't ask the right questions. I'm no Angel!

I messed up my theme.

And I can’t get the old one back.  Hope this is readable.  Still working on it.  Tried something from the P.C.and that was a  MISTAKE,
