Faith.....

Faith is quiet.
Doubt is loud.

Faith is supple.
Doubt is stern.

Faith is calm.
Doubt is angry.

Faith faults self.
Doubt faults other.

You must have faith to understand this.

Everyone says they have faith, but few do.

Skillful discipleship means distinguishing the faithful from the fearful.

August Happiness Challenge Post: Norwegian Fiord

This was originally shared on Google+ by Ash LEE.

I wanted to see Norway, and actually live there.  Next time!  hehehe

The beauty of Norway is stunning.  It makes me happy that Norway exists, and isn't part of the Third Reich, or Russia.  Also, it's makes me happy that it's so close to Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Europe; that makes it even more perfect.

The only thing I don't like about it, we need not discuss.  I know you are curious but let's just say it concerns a certain illogical and intractable attitude toward large mammals.

Make this BIG!

Tuesday Tails, i.e. the Wolfie Report and the Tort Report; plus tiny August Happiness Challenge, Big Questions about Existence, and the knitting report.

Wolfie Report:  The dear little fellow, is getting older.   His muzzle is nearly all gray, a silvery gray, I tell myself, but still gray.  I don't want to part with this little dog.  He is a joy of existence to us.   He whines now to be petted:  "Hey, look at me.  Don't forget to give me scritches and belly rubs, please!"  I'm so glad he's gotten comfortable enough to whine and beg for attention.  He so deserves to be cuddled.

I would put up more fun pictures of Camouflaged pets but I'm updating all my photos to another server, so the computer has fits when I try to find and plug in any photos.

Tort Report:  With temperatures over 90, we had to bring in the baby tortoises to cool off.   Even though they are cold blooded, they can't have their temperatures go over a certain level before dying, so we brought them in.

I put them into a small gray basket, which Dusty immediately tried to climb out of, high sides and all.  He never made it but torts never quit, either.  He stood on his big sib's back for the rest of the afternoon, trying to get a grip on the edge of that little basket.  No luck so when his body temp went down to make it even slower going, he tucked up in the opposite corner and went to sleep.

After the outside temperature dropped to a safe degree, Mr. Z put them both back into their crow and skunk proof enclosure.  The next day, when Mr. Z went out to get them before the mercury hit 90, Dusty was tucked up in a corner and was nice and cool to the touch, so, Mr. Z reasoned that, since all Dusty did was try to escape, he could stay in the little hole of his, and Milagro would come in by herself.   Today is the first day it was safe to leave them both outside in several days.

About August Happiness:  I struggled with happiness today, mostly because I'm feeling pretty useless.  When a person who is used to doing a lot of things and really getting things done hits that intractable wall, it's as if their whole persona shatters.  I'm trying to get my arm well, and it's not working as well as planned.  BUT... last night I came up with a new strategy, and if that works, I think it will heal.

So, I began to question why I'm even still alive, because I really can't help anyone at all.  Hands and healthy arms are the main tools of a crafter.   It took me awhile to ascertain that these decisions where just not mine to make, not rationally.  So, I decided to find some happiness to share.

Knitting Report: Yesterday,  I picked up the pink Cardi that I'm knitting and just held it for ten minutes, trying to get back the feel of it, in my hands and mind.   I rolled it over in my hands and smoothed it back out, getting the fronts properly oriented to the back.

Today I meant to cast on the sleeves but, since I also had a library book to finish before it sailed right out of my reach, the cast-on didn't happen.  Jane Smiley, and it's an ebook.  I can hardly wait for the sequel to be issued.  This one, I'm pre-purchasing.  I can't wait for months to get a copy from the library, hardback or ebook, as these books get a line "a mile long out the door".

Tonight, I know once again, that happiness is a do it yourself project, and I'll be working on the cardi tomorrow, God Willing, and will cast on the sleeves.  I also am thankful that this Stardust Cardi has short sleeves!

Thankful Thursday: August Happiness Challenge.

I love dogs and cats, and birds, too, but I'm allergic to them.

Pina sent me some very cute pictures of dogs and cats.  Here are three, with a link back to the page that they came from

.  I hope they make you happy too!  Thank you, Rho, and Pina!  Thank you!

Sunday Stealing makes me happy: Inventing a new country Yay!

This is MY country, Land of the Bees, and other pollinators...

Crazy Random 20 Meme

Welcome back to Sunday Stealing which originated on WTIT: The Blog authored by Bud Weiser. Here we will steal all types of memes from every corner of the blogosphere. Our promise to you is that we will work hard to find the most interesting and intelligent memes. You may have heard the expression, “honor amongst thieves”. In that age-old tradition, we try to credit the blog that we stole it from. We also provide a link to the victim's meme in our "Previous Victims" widget. (It's our way of saying "Thanks!") Sometimes we edit the original meme, to make it more relevant to our global players, to challenge our players, to select the best questions, or simply to make it less repetitive from this new meme or recently asked questions from a previously featured meme.
Cheers to all of us thieves!!!

Crazy Random Twenty Meme

Stolen from: My Random Randomness

1. Have you ever demolished a wall or building?
Walls, and I've helped demolish a large private residence in Pasadena for building salvage.  It was a shame to have to do that.  But it was the fifties and everything was changing really fast.  The new owner wanted to build an apartment house on the property.

2. If you and a friend both wanted the same thing would you let the friend get it first?
Actually, even if it was one of a kind I could live without it better than I could live without a friend..

3. Have you ever argued over who should pay for something?
I can't remember ever having to argue over something like that.  Insurance usually paid for most things in my life.

4. Do you have any family heirlooms?
I have my mother's glass butterfly necklace, and the family pictures. Also, my grandmother's eye glasses, and a cigar cutter from my grandpa.

5. Are you related or distantly related to anyone famous?
Babyface Nelson?  nah... that's not me, honest.

6. What's your favorite ocean?
I'm partial to the one I grew up wishing to live near to, the Pacific Ocean.  I love that thing.

7. Do you correct peoples mistakes?
No, I think it's impolite to correct people's mistakes.. ROTFLMAO!

8. Have you ever helped out an injured animal?
I help injured lady bugs for heaven's sake; I have absolutely NO fear of the consequences of interfering in Fate.

9. Do you throw bread for the ducks?
One of the greatest joys in life is feeding things, and yes, ducks, too.  But please don't give them white bread, ok?
10. Do you think babies are little bundles of joy or smelly noisy things?
They are smelly, noisy and messy little bundles of joy.

11. Do you give money to buskers?
Ya,  what of it?  hehe  One must encourage the musicians of the world.  To do less seems sort of cruel and unhelpful.

12. Do you ever forward or reply to chain mails?
I'm not as brave as the guy who did that to some needy ex royal in Nigeria, so no, I do not.  But, I must say, it was lots of fun to read about that guy's experiences.

13. Do you often have a tune in your head you can't name?
If there's any tune in my head I can name it.  I can name tunes in your head, too.  What bothers me is the voices... and the buzzing sounds... gah!

14. Has anyone ever approached you thinking you were someone else?
Yes, I'm supposed to look exactly like someone named Gail, or was it Lynn?  I can't remember.

15. Have you ever starred in an amateur or professional video?
No, I'm not that photogenic,or talented.

16. Have you ever been in a position of authority?
Once, when my kids were under the age of 11.  After that, my powers vanished.

17. If you were ruler of your own country what would you call it?
I'd call it Eden, or maybe Utopia, after two of  the first and best places ever made by superior beings, or conceived of by the human mind.  There would only be organic gardens, and the balance of nature would be respected.

Instead of free guns and bullets, everyone would have free solar powered digital cameras, the best that could be constructed.  There would be no firearms, all guns would be banned (as would knives with blades longer than 1.32 inches). The length needed to taste test apples or maybe celery, for picking.

Contraband - such as the banned items mentioned above- would not be allowed, ever, and the citizens responsible for bringing them into Eden/Utopia would be banned, sent away, and their cameras confiscated at the border.

People could grow healthful herbs of ANY kind without fear of being fined, incarcerated, deported, and/or their digital cameras confiscated.

Eden would have flowers and vegetables growing everywhere there was not a building (and of such there would be few- only the necessary lodgings and meeting halls). Children would be home schooled with lots of music and art on the curricula.  Montessori schools would be free!

Citizens would all be vegans, by Royal Decree. If you don't like it, you always have the choice of leaving.  Eden/Utopians would not want to hold you against your will.  If you leave voluntarily you get to keep the camera.

Soy Ice Cream would be free, day or night, and the Royal family would grow any food needed, so that the rest of the population could craft and make art or go about with cameras, capturing the beauty of the land and the wildlife.

18. And what title would you give yourself?
Wakawee Meda, which in Shoshoni means "Mothering Prophetess"  Hey!  I like it!  No judging! heehee

19. If you invented a monster what would you call it?
It would be small, like a toy poodle size, but it would look like a cross between a Tribble, and a mini goat, with little golden horns and hooves.  I would call it a Ziltermitzen for it's call which would sound a little like a toad and a nightjar.

20. And what features would it have?
Pink eyes, light tan nose, pink pointed tongue, and a quizzical expression which suggests that the Ziltermitzen listens carefully to every word of any human, in order to be of service.

August Happiness Challenge, Saturday.

These little fellows make me very happy.

This collage was created by a contributer to Wiki that is called, Alvesgaspar.  He contributes an amazing amount of gorgeous photography to Wikipedia.  If you visit that link, you can click on links that go to other albums this amazing man has shared.  I promise you  that you'll get the same happy feeling that I did this day.

About the Sylphids:  These little insects are entirely harmless, they do not sting or bite,  but they are also dying in record numbers just as are the honey bees and all other pollinators.    I decided to talk a little about them because seeing one on the Buddleias today made me almost insanely happy.

Have a happy Sunday......♥!

Thankful Thursday: an August Happiness Challenge, post 6

My family makes me very happy!

I'm thankful that some very precious souls came to Middle Earth to be my daughters, and my DH.  I certainly don't feel like I deserved the honor of it, though I am very happy to have been part of their lives.

Tuesday Tails, Jazzie: August Happiness Challenge #4,

Remembering Jazzie, who loved to go for trips and rides, just like Wolfie does.

I can look at him now in pictures and videos without getting big tears in my eyes.  I now feel just a lot of gratefulness that I was there, at the right time and the right place, to save him from a breeder.  He was too sweet and too ill to be a breeder's dog.

Like our two dogs before him, he was a second hand dog, and who, like they also did, he carved out a special place in our hearts.

Have you ever read the book, A Dog's Purpose?  Jazzie was one of the many dogs who rescued me.

Thinking of him makes me very happy.

August Happiness Challenge: post 1.

The Gal Herself suggested this August Happiness Project last year.

and I quote:

"Each day in August you are to post about something that makes *you* happy. Pretty simple. And, it doesn't even have to be every day if you don't want it to be. It's a great way to remind ourselves that there are positive things going on in our lives, our communities, and the world."

I have the feeling that I blew it but I'll try anyway..

Challenge: Day 1:

It's called The Blue Butterfly Village project and it was started by the Volunteers of America.

It's been something I've planned to blog about, and this is the perfect day to introduce you to The Blue Butterfly Village in Los Angeles.  It is for women veterans of the armed services, and provides many services, including housing and a complete array of other services to help them get back on their feet and re-oriented if they have any sort of problems dealing with life.

That's my Happiness for today, the first day of August!

And here's a photo of a lovely visitor to the garden yesterday.  This is the first time I've seen this species in my garden.

It's called a Neon Skimmer- look HERE to compare - it was a very bright little guy.
It was so close to the sliding door I had to take this through two layers of tinted glass.
Have a Happy August!

a Mother Jones article about Old Cell phones....26th day of the Happiness Challenge, Tuesday Tails

Firstly, here is the Mother Jones Article that should be of concern to those of us who find themselves in the Monoculture Wheat Fields from Hell (aka The New Earth Created by the Infamous One Percent):

This is part of a Mother Jones article about the non extension of the DMCA rulings.  Part of the reason is that carriers (not the big metal ones the DOD churns out but the other more "airy" types) can spend literal Fortunes on this  issue, and we can fight back with, maybe, bake sales, and tiny rallies.  In other words, we can do diddly squat.   And we thought AGRA business was the biggest bad boy in the Lobby at the Congressional Building.  Well, "Duh" upon us...

Here's the part: "In March, a coalition that includes the Electronic Frontier Foundation, Reddit, and the popular website BoingBoing petitioned Congress to permanently exempt cellphones from the DMCA. Legistators from both sides of the aisle have introduced bills and the White House supports the idea. Yet so far none of the legislation has made it out of committee—thanks, no doubt, to the clout of the wireless industry, whose annual revenues of $196 billion dwarf those of agribusiness and auto manufacturing. In 2012, the CTIA, a trade association that lobbies for the major carriers, spent more than $12 million pressing Congress on various issues, while individual carriers and phone manufacturers unleashed well over $30 million. (Backers are most optimistic about a new bill from California Rep. Zoe Lofgren that would address the ban as part of a more significant DMCA fix.)
Wiens of iFixit says industry could take other steps, like putting repair manuals online, to keep phones out of landfill. But lifting the ban is "low-hanging fruit," he adds—especially for pols who wants to please their constituents. "It's amazing how popular these unlocks are.""

... So, what will now become of them. our cast off phones.  Can we do a lot of squawking?  Come on all you little parrots!  We can do this thing!

Yes, I know.  It IS "Mother Jones", and they are sort of Leftist but who in the heck isn't Leftist visa vie the right wing nut jobs running the "Big Business Fake Foundation Parade" these days.

Day 26 of August Happiness Challenge.

Over the past three months, I have been getting some of these.
They are comfy and lovely.  Though other colors tempt me, this is enough.  Well, maybe some blue.

Now for Tuesday Tails:  I saw a bird on the Mendocino County Audubon web page that I couldn't ID.   So, out came the books and in the NGS Birds of North America out popped the Varied Thrush.  It's a male.  GO SEE?  It is the bird in the bottom left corner.  And to whomever took the picture of the Allen's Hummingbird on the tree bit, I congratulate you!  I've got a resident Allen's that I can't get more than a few pictures of a YEAR!

Today, there was a Wilson's Warbler (tiny bird twice the size of the Hummingbird) in the Cape Honeysuckle, and that  sassy little warrior Allen, was dancing all around it trying to flush it out of getting  dinner and force the Wilson's into an aerial dogfight.    Even the Giant Green June Beetles, one of which DH caught inside a rose eating pollen in the picture below, even this hapless and bumbling creature has felt the wrath of the Allen's male.

God Himself knows that the honeysuckle was MADE for hummingbirds, as they, and they alone have a bill and tongue built for sipping the nectar.  That is HIS bush made for only the Hummingbirds!  None but the Orioles  are given a pass.  When they arrive, dread Allen hides out in the Lemon tree or goes to the back wall to wait until they leave.  Orioles thrashing around in the big bush are something to avoid.  It's a little like sailboats dueling with aircraft carriers.

Knitting,  The knitting is all on long needles now; we got them today.  Tomorrow, and every day until they are done, I want to do a few rows until the two fronts are done.  On long needles I can knit them with out getting befuddled and with them ending up  two different sizes.  As knitters know, if this happens then it's very bad for your reputation, or someone wearing it, unless it's designed that way.  This one is not.

It rained this morning.  And it REAAALLY rained in the Mountains- three hours of steady rain.  We are glad of it, but hope that it keeps up through September so the Indian Lands get the water they need.  It was so wonderful to wake up to the smell of rain.

It's time for me to hit the hay.  It's been hot and muggy, and that wears a person down.  I think that is why the pace of life in hot places is a much more sensible one, more human scale.  It's good to relax and take it easy in the heat.  Now you all be sure to do the same!  Sweet Dreams!

August Happiness Challenge- Day 22 Tort report, knitting angst. that sort of thing

August has just roared by hasn't it?  I'm still spinning around at how fast the whole WEEKS are speeding by!

It's been a challenge to be find singular bits of happiness in this month but one thing that has truly made me happy is that it's been cooler, here, than last year.    We've been blessed with nights that cooled down below 65°F at times.

The sky last night was beautiful as clouds from the Northwest , off the ocean, floated across the sky in small puffs as the sun was going down.  Every edge of these small clouds was transformed to a deep lilac as the last rays of sun sunk below the curve of the earth.   The air was balmy from the high of the day, and the whole effect was one of relief and peace.

Today, I got rid of major stuff in the messy end of the great room.  I hope to get a lot done this year but I won't say anything about it until it's been accomplished!  I'm trying not to give away things that I will need later and regret parting with.  Two desks that went, I really could have used better than the massive table that is still there.  Oh well, this is a dirty job but someone has to do it!

Tort Report:  Milagro is back in from the too cool nights.  DH found her sunning herself in the early morning sun.

Knitting Report:  I had to take the first rows back off the needles where the ties are joined to the fronts.  Had to is because I had a back to a front in one tie/front section.  After I did that it occurred to me that the ties didn't matter since they were, after all, in the right position.  Who on earth was going to look that closely?  Maybe a Knitting Nazi, but I just don't know any of those.

UPDated to include Doobie Brothers Video.... Music Monday, Harvard report on women's heart health, 19th Day of the August Happiness Challenge.

The Video got stripped out for some reason.   YouTube is acting like a pig lately....

First: I started to wonder why I was still having so much discomfort from an angina like pain, and irregular heart beat, even though I do not have blocked or clogged arteries.   This is what I found.  It's long but worth the read.

Since women die everyday EVEN when they have passed the normal stress tests and other diagnostic tests for heart dieease, there had to be something else going on.  This site may have breakthrough medical evidence of something serious and very under studied.

Harvard University, New View of heart disease in women.

Second: I can't leave you without a little something in the August Happiness Challenge so I picked this picture:

Thank God for all the wonderful Animals!
Isn't he beautiful?  This was a picture on a bookmark from the World Wildlife Fund.  It makes me happy every time I see it.

That's my 19th Day August Happiness Challenge entry!

Keep on knittin' Mama, knittin' your cares away!  Happy Crafting!

And, as promised, from those Great Doobie Brothers, with, "Long Train Running"

Enjoy!  Turn it up!

Five Minute Friday Small, August Happiness Challenge-the Daylilies reappear, Wolfie, Update on the Jam

In Order:
Link back to Origin

Five Minute Friday.  This can be brutal:

Since I'm a topic writer this is very hard.  I've heard of writing this way but it seemed fruitless.  Stream of conciousness is not something I'll willingly do!  I'm thinking of finding new authors to read, or new books from authors like Annie Proulse or Jane Smiley that I already like, but there are all of Noam Chomsky's books to read because I think of him as one of the truly remarkable minds of the last one hundred years.
Sometimes it seems pointless at my age to be spending time reading but the thing is there is a connection between all of life, some of it more sentient than others, but still the less sentient need their space so It's a good thing to remember to put pressure on the ruiners of the earth to recall that each and every one of them, they themselves(!), depends on fresh water to live and some acreage that grows food; you know arrible land that growers can't use anything but fresh water for irrigation.

Water, land every one depends on it for their food and drink , there is no equivocation on that.  Every single one of us.  Now I am thinking, is this going to be able to be cleaned up, this writning or do we just present it as is?  Being new to it I have no idea whatso ever but that's is all the time I have except to say that love is the most important thing in solving all the problems we have. I love you, the end.

Now, I'll tell you where I got this:

The Lieber's Family Blog

And, If you want to participate, here is the place for the rules, and that  cute little Icon for your blog posts.

Now,  My August Happiness Challenge for day 16

These came up!  I haven't seen them for several years because the tortoises just ate them back to the ground every year!  Once the crab grass covered them up to the point that the tortoises were afraid to walk out there, up came my dwarf Day Lilies.  So, I am very happy to see them today...

The grass mat is VERY thick, so the torts will not venture onto it.
Wolfie was staring at me the other day, begging to come flying over the arm of the chair and into my lap.  He was so cute that I got out the camera and took this rather unfortunate snap.  The pink reflection on the door frame is from a red afghan atop the loveseat that can't be seen.
I called him, and he came jumping across the arm of DH's Chair and onto my lap.
The jam from the experiment with Cactus Apples actually jelled enough to be nice for a topping for ice cream, and I have the snap to prove it. lol
This stuff is totally yummy!
I wish you all a wonderful weekend, with as many good things to do and to eat that can be put into it.  Happy Knitting!

Day 10 August Challenge, Saturday Komeekz, and goodbye to an old friend ( my Fujika 35mm)

Today, there is this AMAZING THING!   Since the Priest didn't appear in any of the dozens of photos taken of the scene, it makes it truly inexplicable.

Aside:  Oh, and the new Fall Interweave Knits came.  Hurrah!  There's a story about our Clara in it!  Yay!

Speaking of Photos:

Saturday Komeekz..  One to go with my goodbye to the Fujika.  We had it thoroughly conditioned a few years ago, because I thought I'd use it again, but times have changed.

Film is scarce and expensive.  If you want to do your own developing, fine, you can get all the special effects; but really, I think that era's over for most of us.  Onward to an era of photo shopping out stray hairs, red eyes and gray teeth...

Today I am resting, and knitting.

Friday, Thank you God, Accidental Art at the Beach, and Day Nine of the Happiness Challenge

Accidental Art:
Seaweed, looking like a beaded necklace.  Carlsbad Beach

Now, The Ninth Day of the August Happiness challenge....
Here's the knitting hamster.....

And my Ninth day little Happiness....the California Ground Squirrel.

This little fellow is of a species considered to be a pest.
But they are not pests to me; I love seeing them play and sun themselves.  I hope that they aren't to be poisoned.

I remember posting a picture of a baby CG Squirrel, eating apple peelings on our paver one year, as well as the even smaller baby  squirrel that got into the house!  We had to build a racing wall to the back slider to get him to leave peacefully.   So Sweet!

I'm really glad that it's Friday, as this has been a big week for  having my feet swell up.  With CFS and Fibro (if you have either you know what it does) getting my feet up is the best thing!  My spoon jar is E. M. T.!

I'm looking forward to sitting around the rest of the weekend and working in spaits (yes, that is the Scottish spelling of it) of five or ten minutes of intense activity followed by good old fashioned, hippie-style "chilling out", with my knitting.  We are getting rid of one big thing this weekend and intend to follow it with more next week.  Some things must go out of our lives.  We don't have time for them anymore, and frankly, I'm looking forward to using the space for something else.   I want to make curtains and draperies for our home.

Today, at fitness, the hands behaved perfectly.  I'm very pleased at the mods that my trainer made for me.  This is my last session with a trainer, so I'll miss him but he's trained me very well.  I feel very strong and a lot more fit than when I first started.   I'm blessed to have had such a good trainer and what is that saying, "When the student is ready, the Master appears."  Well, that is what happened.

Yesterday we went to visit my sister.  She is doing as well as can be expected, and keeping busy with her crafts.  She is just an amazing Crafter.  We both love to have gardens, grow plants from seed or cutting, and make things with out hands.  So we can share these loves with each other.  I'm so blessed to have a sister I am close to and share hobbies with.

The day before that, Wednesday, we went to see DH's mom, and have lunch with her, and then we reminisced about the old days.   She and DH went for a walk around the block.   When we got home, my ankles were swollen, so I put the darn things up!   I think I've lost height, and I look like a fire plug.

We watched a documentary called, "I AM", and it was amazing.  You can watch it on line, but not at that site.  Anyway, it really Cheered me up!  I hope you can see it and feel the same.  When Quantum Physics gets on the same Band Width as the Vedas and Rumi, well, it doesn't get any better than that!
I'm hoping to catch up on all your blogs this weekend, in between spaits of work, and knitting.

Have a great weekend!  Love to you all, and all who sail with you!

PS to k, I want to read "Moby Dick" again.  I think it's time to do it before the feeling wears off. teehee

Tuesday Tails, a stolen meme, Day Six of the August Happiness Challenge, and a Skywatcher Post

Stolen meme:

From the blog, Sweet Memes

Since I'm a pushover for hearts anywhere I find them.... this sponge against the bisque-baked deer, for instance...

the predisposition to choose hearts likely explains my result,  or maybe not.  The world "Quixotic" seems to fit my world view.    I've tried to link the eyeball, below, to the site but couldn't figure out how to do it.  *sighs*  The link back is in those big BLUE words.

"You are an idealist and a romantic. You don't care much about how the world currently is... you think about how it should be.
You have a vision for yourself, your friends, and possibly even the planet. This goes so far beyond a fairytale ending.

You see the world in its ideal state. You know it isn't there yet ... or even close. But it could be!
You have high expectations for everyone and everything. You don't know why people aren't as committed to betterment as you are.

The world sees you as sweet but possibly naive. They may find you simple, but you don't understand why they complicate things.   People are surprised by how consistent and optimistic you are about getting the world and life you want. You refuse to give up hope."

Actually, I am a LOT happier since I've given up trying to initiate change in a world which I now see as something run by puppeteers who love power and money more than their first born children.

So, let's just have some animal pictures to cheer us all up, and count for:

Day Five SIX of the Challenge!
(Heck, I can't count. and obviously can't read a calendar!)
This is Jay holding an sweet little 8 week old pit puppy who was out for a walk with his family.  Jay usually doesn't smile when a camera is pointed her way, but she forgot that her sister is a camera nut, and very sneaky!   She loves animals and would love to have a dog.

Churchy saw his newest babies for the first time the other day, and here he is snuggling up with Milagro, the biggest of the two new babies.  By "New" I mean those born this century. hehe  It makes me happy that we have them but glad there will not be any more!

Churchy sniffed the babies but didn't bob his head at them or try to bite them.
Mother Poko Ono treated them like they were strangers, which is the Tortoise way of insuring that the kids stay well away from Mom.

Saturday was a sale day at the library, and DH scored two wonderful books, one about animals.

It's always a treasure to find a Farley Mowat book, and I look forward to reading it soon.  Right now I'm reading the second one, Animals in Translation by Temple Grandin.  Wolfie very graciously offered his backside as a prop.  I love the way Temple Grandin writes.  I'm still waiting for the other book I'm supposed to be reading to arrive!

Finally,  Skywatcher,  taken at Dusk,  a week or so ago:

We've been having the most unusual weather - it's perfect weather anywhere in the world, but unusual for August in Cali.
Hope your days are going well.  Remember, when your thinking is way out of control, that "It's only a thought" , and, usually it is.    You deserve to be in control of your thoughts.  You deserve this respite!

Day Four of the August Happiness Challenge, Sunday Stealing, Sunday Matinee, two movies, and Sky Watcher post

August Happiness Challenge:

I was very happy to be able to water my shade patio, myself, and to scrub out the kitchen sinks.  I've also taken up the knitting again, knitting yesterday and plan to carry on today at my earliest convenience!  I'm going to work on the pink Stardust sweater for Elle, and try to relearn the patterns for the Manly Beastly Aran.     Thank you, Angel Fran, for looking down on us all, and for all the help while you were here.

My hands are doing pretty darn good since I gave up the heavy lifting.   My trainer said, "You know what this means don't you?  It means that the 'Honey Do List' must now expand", and we both laughed.  To be honest, DH is a wonderful Haus frau but he will NOT clean bathrooms, the fridge, or the stove top.

 Sunday Matinee:
Here are two spy thrillers that will keep you on the edge of your last nerve.   Sweet Jesus, they are disturbing.  Personally, I think it's probably worth coming back to save dogs and cats and wildlife, but can humans really be saved from themselves?    Maybe some of us need a new planet?  The Gardeners and lovers of Nature get to keep this one though!

Interested?  Netflix:

The Numbers Station   This one was very interesting to me because of the fact that spies have used numbers they just read off of the of SW bands for decades.  As a kid, I used to hear these numbers
(which were read by woman readers) late at night.  This is because I've owned a shortwave receiver  forever.  There has always been a SW radio in my life because the whole thing fascinates me.

Anyway, back to the movie:   The problem is that some of the holes in the plot are big enough to drive an M1 Abrams battle tank through.  If you like violence, lots (and I mean LOTS!) of suspense, and if you also like to laugh at "holes in believability or reason" type plot developments, watch this one.

Page Eight
All I can say about "Page Eight" is that Bill Nighy is so very wickedly good as a senior analyst for MI-5 that you hope he doesn't really have a real life counterpart.  This hero is someone whom too many people severely underestimate, to their peril.

It's still fun to think about spy stuff as Spooks exist to this day.  Even if you are enthralled by Vampires, these might be violent and scary enough for you.  After all, Spy stuff (and what they get up to with black ops money and even, dare I say it, Homeland Security Bucks) when in a movie plot, is infinitesimally more like the reality we now find ourselves in.   I say, go get your clearance and join in the fun!

Sky Watcher:

We get clouds every day, and I am loving it.  This is lovely and amazing weather.
Sunday Stealing:

Massive Alphabet Meme, part two

The Letter N
Do you have a nickname?   No, I don't have a nickname anymore.  I was called Lennie in school but that was ages ago.

What is your favorite number?  37 is my favorite number

Do you prefer night or day?   Day.  I see better in daylight, but the new night goggles are pretty spiffy.

The Letter O
What is your one wish?  That selfishness would disappear forever from the human race.  I really mean Forever and completely.

Are you an only child?  No, I have a sister and a brother, living, and a brother who died when he was five.

Do you wish this year was over?   No, I live in the moment and they go fast enough as it is.   zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzip!  There goes another one!

The Letter P
What is one fear that you are most paranoid about?   I fear losing human rights and political freedom.  Nothing much is happening now that eases this fear, either.

What personality trait would you look for in someone you wanted to date?    Compassion is the one.   I think compassionate people are the best humans.

The Letter Q
Are you quick to judge people?   No.  If the situation calls for judging people as to whether they are going to stick a shiv in my side while walking by me, yes.

The Letter R
Do you think you are always right?  I know that I'm not always right.

Do you watch reality T.V.?   In a way I do.  I watch Netflix.

What is a good reason to cry?   Cruelty and violence toward any other earthling is a good reason.  Look, I know that I'm very predictable about all this stuff, but I just couldn't live with myself if things like that above had no affect on me.  I don't want to be another cyborg.

The Letter S
Do you prefer sun or rain?   Because I live in a desert where we get an abundance of sun, I prefer rain.

Do you like snow?   I adore snow.  See above.  Snow is good for my part of the country, especially in the mountains.

What is your favorite season?   The Wet.  I love that season.

The Letter T
What time is it?   Too late to be doing this and making much sense of it.

What time did you wake up?   I woke up at 6:15 this morning.

When was the last time you slept in a tent?   1991 or 2 in the desert in Quartszite.

The Letter U
Are you wearing underwear?  Are you checking?  You are always asking this.  Are you channeling my mother?

Do you open your eyes when under water?   Yes, even salt water.  How else can you see where you are going?

The Letter V
What is the worst veggie?   Black eyed peas.  I know, it's never going to change, either.

Where do you want to go on vacation?   I'd really like to go all the way up to Vancouver Canada, through Oregon and Washington.

What was your last family vacation together?   A few years ago we went to Pinnacles for a week so that we could do a little hiking.  But three years ago there was the Mt. Whitney trip; I missed out on that but most of the family went.

The Letter W
What is your worst habit?   Having to force myself to get out the door.
Where do you live?   SoCal

The Letter X
Have you ever had an X-ray?   At my age, I've had too many of those.

Have you ever seen the X-Games?   I don't know what those are.

Do you own or have you ever played a xylophone?   I've played a few of them.  They are nice.

The Letter Y
Do you like the color yellow?   I love Yellow and really wish I could wear it.

What year were you born in?   A war year.  And there has hardly been a single year since where our country has been at peace.

What do you yearn for most?   Answer is still the same.  I'd like to live somewhere that my kids wanted to come back to.

The Letter Z
What is your Zodiac Sign?  I'm three hours out of one sign and into another.  I read two.
Do you believe in the Zodiac?  Not really.

What is your favorite zoo animal?  Lemurs.

"Is that really our Vet?  He's awfully furry!"

I messed up my theme.

And I can’t get the old one back.  Hope this is readable.  Still working on it.  Tried something from the P.C.and that was a  MISTAKE,
