1. What has been your favorite part of the year so far.  This is my second least favorite year, as an adult,  so that's a hard question.   I guess it was Winter, when my daughter and her beau came to visit in February, before everything went pear-shaped and disgusting.  I love seeing the kids. 

2. Have you started Christmas shopping?  No.  I don't give much thought to Christmas anymore.  I doubt whether my family will get together this year at all.  No shared dinners and no shared celebrations.  I'm good with it, if it keeps people safe.

3. Do you like your handwriting? Surprisingly I still have nice hand writing, as it was still taught in school when I was a child, it gets instilled deeply in people of my age.  I got a compliment on my hand writing from a nurse this past year.  So, I guess it's still legible.  I do still enjoy using an ink pen now and again for various writings.  

4. Song you could hear over and over and over again.  I used to have so many songs that I would hear over and over in my head.  I am a singer, you see, and from a very young age.  I sang every day until making a promise not to sing until a certain thing happened.  Well,  for forty years that certain thing didn't happen.  

Iran-Contra totally trashed my little personal inward obsession, and  there is no song left in me.  I take promises seriously.  My singing voice is now completely unreliable, as voices tend to go over the years. 

5. A favorite quote.  "The first hundred years are the hardest"  My friend and neighbor used to say this all the time to explain why things were a never ending string of woes and epic fails. lol  We'd laugh a lot about it.  He's gone now, about ten years or even more, but I can still hear him saying that.

6. Last dream you remember  Can't think of a single dream.  Dreamer's Block?  It was probably a nightmare.  I have to read more Amish fiction!

7. Most expensive object you want to buy right now.  I'd really like to get an Insta-Pot.  But I'd also really like my own little car. 

8. Describe your eldest family member.  He's funny, and likes to laugh.  He tends to be, sadly, extremely bigoted.  I think it's a product of his upbringing that he's not been able to cast off.  The years have not been kind to him physically. But he's still very lovable, over all.  He has a smile that lights up a room.

9. What has your weather been like?  The weather has been hot, dry and extremely dangerous.  We need the early winter rains to start.  The gentle ones.

10. Do you enjoy your job?  I loved my work.  Teacher's Assistant and then Yarn shop clerk,  my favorite jobs. Then I had a little business of doing alterations and seamstress work, after that I started a formal business (chartered?) and sold my crafts at shows.  It was all fun. 

11. What is your favorite everyday item?  I think that honor goes to a Smartypants TV, as well as the fact that we have cable.

12. Are you currently obsessed with any TV show?  Most of what I watch, even in Reruns, comes from KPBS, our local public broadcasting station.  So, "Mystery", and "Masterpiece Theater".  Well, I wish there were a lot more of "Call the Midwife", so there's that obsession.  That and "Father Brown".

13. Book you’d like to read before the year ends. I'm currently reading four books that I will finish in the next month.  I read part of them each day.

  Rage ,   Greed and Glory on Wall Street,    Superpower Showdown,   and    Wrong Enemy .  

To save my sanity, I'm hoping to read a bit of fluff after these but fluff is hard to find,  for me anyway.   Maybe I'll read a Christmas Amish thinga.  Those are so sweet...

 14. Describe Kindness.  I Ching says, "If Kindness is recognized as your virtue, you have fulfilled your purpose entirely."  I think that means that Kindness, fellow feeling and gentleness, is the Highest of all Virtues.  I would describe Kindness as the Highest Virtue.

15. Describe your favorite candy in great detail.  My favorite candy is chocolate covered cherries,  and my mother loved them, too. They are made this way: 

You start with a jar of stem-on maraschino cherries.  Take them out of their syrup and reserve it for other purposes, and let the cherries dry off over night.  The next day make a recipe of vanilla fondant, when it's cool thoroughly, wrap each cherry in a ball of it.  Then dip each one in melted, tempered chocolate and set them to dry on a foil lined tray.  Try not to eat them all within the hour. 

PS:  Don't believe everything you read about these cherries.  I cannot understand the things people will put up on the Web.  Good God in the Morning!

1) Loretta Lynn wrote this song to help her cope with the sudden death of her friend, Patsy Cline. When they first met, Patsy was already a star and she helped Loretta become established. Did you more recently advise or receive advice?  I both gave and received advice.  It's what happens in the best of times and more frequently in troubled times.  We are in trouble.

2) She sings that Patsy's is the face she sees when she turns out the light. Do you remember who or what you were thinking about when you fell asleep last night?  I was practicing my "think about nothing".. which is a mantra I learned from a Rockhound friend a long, long time ago.

3) Loretta maintains her TN ranch is haunted. She says "the moaning woman" is a harmless apparition, dressed in white. Do you believe in ghosts?  I never used to when I was a kid but once, decades ago, I saw the ghost of a former home owner, several times, in our new house.  After seeing her move things in that house, I believed.  My husband saw the things move, and we didn't have any teenagers in the house, either. Ha!

4) Loretta Lynn's ranch is now open to the public. In addition to horseback riding, fishing and camping, Loretta's ranch features shops that sell locally-sourced jams, jellies and sauces, as well as Loretta Lynn CDs and "Coal Miner's Daughter" glassware and t-shirts. Have you ever brought home an edible souvenir? Or do you prefer to remember your trips with something more lasting, like a coffee mug or t-shirt?  Heck, I'd probably buy all of it. But, on second thought, I'd buy the Coffee mugs, T-shirts and the darn jam, and the CD.. Maybe the glassware.. *thinks about it*...Yes all...  I am after all, the great grand daughter of an Welsh/American Coal miner who settled in "them thar hills". 

5) According to Reader's Digest, The Exorcist is the scariest movie of all time. Have you seen it, and if so, did it scare you?  I've seen it, and didn't think it was scary.  Now, "Pitch Black", that is a very scary movie!!!  😨

6) Which do you find spookier: haunted houses or cemeteries?  Cemeteries, that is IF they are haunted. 

7) What's the most recent Halloween costume you wore?  I wear a witch hat to hand out candy but not a full on costume?  It would be this one. 

8) When you were a kid, did you trade your Halloween candy with siblings or friends?  Not that I remember doing.  We pretty much just went through it and mother then put it away so we wouldn't eat ourselves sick. I think she also had her eye on a few things, too.  lol
 
9) Random question: You meet your very friendly new neighbor. She invites you over for a "get acquainted" cup of coffee tomorrow afternoon and you accept. Then you learn that she was once on trial for an axe murder ... but acquitted. Would you still go over to her house?  Sure, I'd just take my six gun and have my Bowie Knife strapped to my thigh.  I'd bring the attack poodle but he's so old now that he has a hard time finding it around his own house, let alone hers.

This week's Sunday Stealing

1. What is your favorite spooky song  That would be, Thriller, with Michael Jackson.

2. What do you want etched on your tombstone? I won't have one.

3. Who is your favorite horror movie villain  I like the Witch in "Into the Woods" she is really EVILLLL!

4. Have you ever seen a ghost?  There was a ghost in the last house we owned.  She was the owner of the house and had died there.  She came here with me because I knew who she was and I didn't want her to be lonely.  One day, after about two years, she went away.  I know she was real because when my friend from the new neighborhood told me about her, I immediately recognized her. She moved books around and the cat was scared of her.  I think of her more as an Angel than anything else.  She was really gentle.

5. Do you prefer gore, thrillers or supernatural movies?  I don't like any of them really, but thrillers come close. 

6. What is your favorite scary book? I'm not really into scary books.  Non Fiction is scary enough for me.

7. Have you ever had a tarot card reading?  I read them myself  Was it accurate? Oh ya.  Very much so.

8. Are you superstitious? Nope

9. Have you ever used a voodoo doll? Lol, no.. that, to me is just plain silly.

10. Have you ever participated in a seance? No

11. Have you ever heard voices when no one was around except you? No

12. What is your favorite Halloween candy? I like the little Almond Joys and the Butterfingers.

13. What was your most memorable Halloween costume?  I went to a party as a Commander in the US Navy.  It was so much fun. Especially when I let down my long hair from under a gray wig and took of my mustache.  

14. Do you like going through haunted houses (not real ones)?  Aside from my own two, I just never had any interest in them.

15. If someone dared you to spend the night in a haunted house (a real one) would you do it?  Sure.

1. What kinds of things do you like to write?
I like to write songs, poems and short stories.  

2. What is your favorite genre of movie
Comedy and Romantic Comedy

3. Your favorite song?
It has to be Hallelujah by K.D. Lang

4. During what situation do your eyes shine the brightest?
When I see someone I love or even just like a lot.

5. Summer or Winter?
I love the Wet, which is essentially Winter. We plant flower seeds in it and it lasts all the way through to the Dry.  Australian weather terms that fit California to a T

6. What do you do when you are angry?
I clam up.

7, Sleep with lights on or off ?
Off.  When you live in the city, you appreciate as much darkness as you ever get.

8. Are you ok with eating alone in a restaurant?
I am not going to do that.  I'd rather eat at home if I'm alone.  That way I can be with the dog and we can snuggle up and watch Agatha Christie CDs while I knit.

9. Texting or calling?
I prefer texting.  Though I could call the kids, all of them don't have unlimited minutes as do I.  So, I spare them that.

10. What’s your favorite thing about yourself?
My sense of the Ironic in Life is probably the thing that keeps me alive.

11. How do you act when you’re scared?
Well, pretty much like everyone else does.  I freak!

12. When you look at the sky do you first look at the moon, or the stars?
In this city, if the Moon is up, you can't see any stars.  What you can see are the other planets, usually Mars and Venus, or Saturn.

13. Do you approach strangers when you are lost?
Darn right.  My view is that we are all brothers and sisters.  I'd help anyone and that's the way I think of life as a whole.  We are here to help each other.  If you can't be kind or helpful, then you should rethink your life.

14. Tea or Coffee?
Make mine Tea, please.

15. With sugar? Milk? Lemon? Anything else?
Tea: usually plain but sometimes with sweetener, and sometimes, cream
never milk.  I can drink, and I like, DeCaf coffee with cream and sweetener, but no milk please! 

AND no lemon in my teas unless it's iced tea.

1) This song was inspired by a young Ellie Goulding's fear of the dark. What scared you when you were a kid?    My paternal unit.  His temper was explosive and he was a brutal guy. 
 
2) She thinks back to the room where her brother and sister slept and she felt safe. Did you share a room when you were growing up?  Yes.  All four of us were in one room. 

3) Ellie Goulding grew up in public housing and worked her way through the University of Kent in Canterbury. Back in those days, her favorite job was theater usher because it offered her the perk of seeing plays for free. What's the most recent "freebie" you scored? (This includes a buy one/get one deal, extra points on your credit card, etc.)  Nothing free, but I have been buying ebooks on the cheap through BookBub.  And, we bought a TOL a new washer when the old one died last month. The new one has a tiny dent, so a local store offered it to us at extra ordinary price. 
 
4) Even though today she is an international music star, Ellie still lives modestly. She describes herself as "still in university mode," and limits herself to $10/day for lunch. Where do you economize?  Books.  And we just don't buy anything we don't really need.  I mean besides the books I buy. I almost fell for some more sock yarn, too, but my shameful Stash of sock yarn stopped me.  It's still in my basket though.  Shhhh!  😇

5) Ellie has proclaimed herself "a cat lady" and often posts pictures of her cats to her Instagram account. What's the most recent photo you took?  I took a picture of me gleefully celebrating getting the House back.  Taking pictures of myself is now completely pointless.  Scary even. 

6) Ellie appeared on Sesame Street. She, Elmo and Abby thanked clouds for raindrops, lakes, and the water we drink. Would you be thankful for a little rain this weekend?  I'd like to hear that song.  And.....Yes!  Bring the Rain!  California needs it. 

 7) In 2011, the year "Lights" was a hit, Prince William married Kate Middleton. Ellie not only attended the wedding, she sang Elton John's "Your Song" for the couple's first dance. Tell us a song that reminds you of a romance in your life.  I've been trying to use an insertion code for the last half hour (at least) that's worked perfectly for WEEKS before now.  So, the Video will tag along in a the post below.  It's not perfection but at least a blogger can try. And I'm sorry you can't see it from this link... JUST CLICK ON "OLDER POSTS" and it pops up...

8) Also in 2011, AT&T abandoned their attempt to buy T-Mobile. Which company is your cell phone carrier? Are you happy with them?  Yes.

 9) Random question: What recent experience made you feel old?  Trying to use Blogger to do anything anymore.  I'll either switch platforms or quit blogging.  They have really buggered up their product.  I have no IDEA what could be wrong with using embedding code in the options when it was perfectly alright two days ago.

I SO wanted to join the Woman's March but I'm not well enough yet to have done....Some lingering and hard hanging on little devils that refuse to be kicked to the curb towards the trash cans, the sorry little blistards.

But I'm going to try to get up the gumption to do the two weekend meme's which I sorely miss when I can't do them. 

For the good of my heart, I bought a couple of new albums by Luke Brindley, and if you want to hear some of his work you need to go to a place called Bandcamp.  There are  a couple of free songs and  there's all sorts of music.  Also there's a shed load of newer artists and players.

You can follow Luke on Instagram. The album version of this song is rich and full, as it was done in a studio.  This is in a bar I think.  Not sure!

   

 The weather's really been good at the beach.. It's good to watch the Hang Ten crowd, and I'll be happy to get down there.  Wolfie's too sick and old to go anywhere but the very best Beach weather is in the Fall and winter anyway.   The birding is the best then, too.

2) Ashley McBryde sings that she's not Cinderella, a reference to the fairy-tale heroine warned to return from the ball before midnight. When did you recently stay up until the wee small hours of the morning? Last night.

3) Ashley had been working hard as a singer/songwriter for eleven years before she was discovered and proclaimed one of County's best new artists. What was your life like 11 years ago?  I was recovering from knee replacement.  I was so glad to be rid of "Old and Busted", that the time just flew.

4) Ashley is from Mammoth Springs, AR. One of the most popular stops on Main Street -- for locals and tourists alike -- is Spring Dipper Ice Cream. More than 20 flavors are made right there on the premises, from Jamoca Almond Fudge to French Vanilla. When confronted with such a wide selection, do you tend to order your familiar favorite or try something new? Since Jamoca Almond Fudge is my goto, all time favorite, that's the one.

5) In 2007, she moved to Nashville to pursue a music career. Have you ever relocated for a job?
As a family, yes.  I wish we hadn't.  But it taught me some lessons I might not have learned.  However, as regards true happiness, it was a loss.  But for life lessons, who knows?  No one ever knows what would have happened if they'd done "ABC" instead of "XYZ".  They were lessons I'd rather not have learned.  People generally make the most of what falls across their paths.  They want to be happy so make the most of some of the crummiest situations.

6) Whenever Ashley hears a Carpenters song, she thinks of her mother, who loved Karen Carpenter's voice. Tell us a song that reminds you a loved one.  "Wind Beneath my Wings" 

 

 

 7) In 2019, the year this song was recorded, Notre Dame Cathedral was damaged in a fire. Have you ever visited Paris? Never had the pleasure.

8) Also in 2019, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex (aka Harry and Meghan) had a baby boy. Is anyone in your life expecting a baby? No.

9) Random question: Do you always want to hear the truth about yourself?  I don't mind the truth, it's the only way to change for the better.  The problem is that people give their opinions with the weight of truth, so the receiver always has to filter out opinion or bias.  I would listen to my hubby, my mother, or the Dalai Lama, but not many others.

1. If You Could Use A Time Machine To Go Back In Time To Fix One Thing Or Go To The Future To See What It Is Like Which Would You Do?   

To be honest, I wouldn't do either.  The time line is what it is.  You go back and change one thing, there are unforeseen consequences.  

If you go forward, you cannot forget what you saw and would do everything you could to prevent something happening that could start a very bad snowball effect.  

Happily, we are not Gods and can't do these things, as of now.

2. If All Of A Sudden There Was A Depression Or There Were No Stores To Buy Food, Clothing, Etc. How Would You Manage?

I'd be helping by teaching others to sew, cook or grow a garden or whatever other skill they wanted help with or lacked.  And I'd sew for everyone I could.  

Also we'd start growing a fast track garden. Then we'd likely set up a seed savers bank. 

Trading for things is already happening in this economy.  Actually it's one of the things that farmer's markets do, is trade in kind here and there.  We'd also go completely vegan.

3. Are You Concerned With What Other People Think About You?
No, because I decided a long time ago to live as authentic a life as possible.  And I keep it as simple as possible in this world. 

 I try to be truthful, loving, open and honest. Beyond that, if people don't like me, I'm OK with it.   Besides, a person can't be liked by everyone else.  It's just a simple truth that one has to accept.

 4. How Do You Handle People You Don’t Like?
When I can't handle someone's mindset or lifestyle?  

In that case,  I just don't have enough in common with them, so I see as little of them as possible.  There are just so many people that I CAN'T see much of, whom I like, that it hurts.  

It's a "no brainer" to distance from those with whom one has little in common.   Happily, not a lot shocks me anymore; I'm not a staid old lady. 

5. What Do You Think Of Garden Gnomes?
I like the little devils.  I've made a lot of Kitschy little ceramic things, and Gnomes are one of them. Plus they sell well. I can't wait to find an outlet for ceramics.  They've all dried up!

6. You’ve Been Given An Elephant. You Can’t Give It Away Or Sell It. What Would You Do With The Elephant?   

Ok, is it a baby?  Anyway, this is dead Easy.  I'd give it to the Wild Animal Park.  They would love to have it. Then I'd go visit it as often as possible.  

I might claim Naming rights but probably not. I'd love to have an Elephant to give.

7. How Would You Design A Spice Rack For The Blind?
All in a row spice racks and new labels that have braille on them.  Why would they need a spice rack?  They could line them up on the counter top. HERE is something I did find that is interesting...  

8. How Lucky Are You And Why?
Not very.  And it is probably that I was "Born under a bad star".

9. What’s your biggest kitchen fail?
My kitchen just sits there..  OIC.  It would be when my 5 year old brother and 8 year old self started to bake a scratch cake for Mother's birthday while she was at work, and we just went nuts putting all of Mother's various spices in to it. 

It was Dreadful!

10. What’s the most embarrassing thing that happened to you in school?
I started at a new school in the second grade, and was thoroughly beaten up while standing in line.  I hadn't said a word to anyone but suddenly a bunch of little kids piled into me.  

This all turned out to be too much for my mother and she moved me right back to my old school.  

 11. If you could kill off any character from a current television show, who would it be?
Sorry, I don't have a clue about current TV.

12 . If you could make a rule for a day and everyone had to follow it, what would it be?
Do something kind for everyone you meet that day. And, no, you can't just stay in your house, buried in the bed covers.  Get out there and do things!

 13. Would you rather be a hobbit or an elf for 24 hours?
No contest.  A Hobbit.  They know how to live life and enjoy sharing food.  

14. What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?
I drove through a fire in my truck one year, in the South bay.

15. Would your rather shoot spaghetti out of your fingers or sneeze meatballs? 

I'd rather shoot spaghetti.  because it would be clean enough to eat.  This is because sneezing meatballs makes them inedible.  And besides, you could feed the world with spaghetti.  Every one eats it in one form or another.  What a great talent!

What's Love Got to Do with It is also the title of Tina Turner's film biography, which tells of Tina's escape from her abusive, controlling husband, Ike. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

1) The video was shot around New York City in spring. Kids are seen jumping rope. Were you good at jump rope? Has it ever been part of your workout routine as an adult?  As a kid, I was really good at skipping rope, and it was the most darn fun.  That was a long, long time ago.  It's all I can do, anymore, to just step over a rope laying in my path.

2) In real life, Tina Turner played basketball for her school. Were you good at team sports? I was in GAA the whole time in high school, and competed in Archery, Basketball, Softball, and Volleyball meets, and earned my basketball referee's certification.  But in college I was a swimmer and competed in tennis tourneys, two non-team sports.

3) In the video, Tina Turner wears a little black dress topped with a denim jacket. That jacket is a fashion staple 36 years later. Do you own a denim jacket?  I have two of them, and one is a Levi's jacket. I've been thinking of driving the Jeep over it a thousand times to soften it up. 

3) This song was first offered to Cliff Richard, a major pop star in England who never enjoyed gained superstar status in the US. Perhaps, if he had recorded "What's Love Got to Do with It?," he would have been better known on this side of the ocean. Tell us about a time when you said "no" when "yes" might have been the better answer.  No. ;o)  And that's because I'm tired .. and here's a little treat from Kristen.  A Haiku about that condition.

That about sums up senior adulthood.

 

4) Tina's first marriage, to Ike Turner, was a painful one. Her second marriage, to German music executive Erwin Bach has been far more supportive. This has been a blessing, since Tina has had serious health problems in recent years. Do you have any medical/dental appointments scheduled?  Not anymore.  Had a scad of them the last two months.

5) Tina met Erwin at Heathrow Airport in 1986. He was there to help her prepare for her London performances. They immediately liked one another, but didn't become romantically involved until months later and were surprised to find themselves falling in love. Have you ever had a romantic relationship that crept on you?  Nope. Someone, another nerd, really liked me in High School, but I had my eye on a completely oblivious and Tall basketball player. 

6) The Rolling Stones' Keith Richards referred to Tina as his "favorite aunt." Is there anyone who isn't a relative of yours by blood but you refer to as aunt, uncle, brother, sister, etc.? My mother's life long friend, "Aunt" Jeanne. And, my friend, D.  She and I call each other, "SisFace".  Our Hubbies call us, "Women Hit with the Same Brick"

  7) Former President George W. Bush is also a big Tina Turner fan, and has praised her for having "the most famous legs in show business." What do you believe is your best physical feature?
Not that they are particularly great, but it's probably my eyes.

8) At home, Tina often doesn't always play music or TV because she appreciates quiet as much as music. What about you? Do you enjoy quiet?  I've learned to appreciate the quiet.

9) Random question: On a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being "very lazy" and 10 being "very productive," what number are you?  Since I take it that this could also include pursuits other than "physically" active, I'd say I'm a 9.  Slow but still pretty active.  I basically never stop thinking and writing about most "BIG" questions. 

But, it's the arguments I have with myself that are the most time consuming.
