Friday seems like a good day for summing up the week, so I'll start with knitting.

And now for what all the knitters are waiting for, The KnittingNEWS: I've had to wait a little to add more than four rows to the sleeve, but finally, yesterday, got the sleeve onto a 16" circular hat needle. It's a bit harder on my hands but as the stitch count goes up in ensuing increases, it will get easier. Or not....
After seeing this at onelaststitch.com I've decided not to be a sissy about it.

Back to the Aran... though I fully intend to make one like this one day,
I'm only up to the first three cable crosses, using a larger than needed cable needle for the twelve stitch cross over, and a smaller one for the normal sixes- not because it's the right thing to do, but because I can't find the smaller ones. I'll just wing it until I can get some more. I'd show you "progress, but three rows on a sleeve that already looks like a tiny standing rib roast gone putrid, is not at all exciting. It does look a little cuter because now it has a fringe.
As anyone with Fibromylgia knows, you can fool yourself part of the time, but not all the time so eventually you find all your "stuff". This happy event will, hopefully, happen before you've had to buy yet another whatchacallit. But, after all, isn't that what 50% off coupons are for?
I've also cast on the Diamond Hat this afternoon, after a major search for the one multicolor yarn I wanted to start it with. I've been moving the yarns around so much that the old bean can't keep up! But I've set that project aside until the sleeve pattern is embedded into my brain. It seems like the right thing to do.
So, I totally do NOT have too much yarn!
And my Dears, Go ahead, eat those cookies. I'm not keeping count.

I can't stand it. In China, these dogs, but cats also, are stolen or snatched off the streets for this abomination, driven sometimes hundreds of miles in these crates. And this is the way most of them are treated before they are hung or bludgeoned to death. I want it to stop!!!!! And, we can stop it, if we all show our outrage at this horrible inhumane event that takes place every year in China.

Tuesday Tails: First, a video of a saved street dog. They save him and he fully recovers and plays.
This is where a lot of the Real Human Beings are, in animal welfare, rescuing and caring, 7/24. We really can change things if enough of us "just do something".
Wolfie report: Wolfie met a little pooffy, ten year old female Shizu on the trail the other day, She was adorable, and she was the aggressor. Wolfie may be becoming a true gentleman. Anyway it was a shock to me, and to him. She was adorable and maybe it's "gone to her head" Just kidding. I have a feeling they are both "only dogs"
We went Geocaching yesterday, on a long gravel strewn trail which was a tad less than 3 tenths of a mile - Mr.Z thinks less- but my body tells me that all my step counting is right. Next time I'm "booting up", taking a walking stick, and going bushwacking with my pedometer on and a pack on my back.
But this tiny, pretty shaped stone showed up along the way. So, the day became a day of heart's ease.

The knitting:
Those new progress bars that I found are a great little bit of code. I'm so happy with them. If "repeats" are created in their own Gadgets/widgets and customized they work great. It's very easy to follow the directions at Lena's Frugal and Thankful's blog. They will require some tweaking as the percentage goes up. And......The bars don't seem to like anything less than 15 displayed but if you count the yarn and pattern search as 5% and the casting on as 10, you're there! ;-)
I've done this before, with different bars, so no sweat, there. It was foolish to blow away the widget for the Ravelry bars, but that's life. Anyway, this is all easy stuff. I only know enough Basic to get into trouble but this worked out well. Fear not, you too can make them. Wine afterwards though, to celebrate, eh?
Now to get some photo worthy progress made on the sleeve. So far, I've done nothing but try to get stitch markers at the beginning of all of the seven patterns in the sequence. Oh, one increase is now in. I cannot WAIT to get this thing on a circular needle. So far I've knit to the end of the ribbing and two rows of garter, and it looks like a little green standing rib roast. Windows ten blew away most of my pictures.
So, here's a hat I would like to make which is the one shown way back when. In fact I'm going to make two.
No one wanted the machine knitting yarn so I'll experiment with it in making a few things. Experimenting and using the neurons is good for a person. I've found that a person can make some pretty amazing things with this thin yarn.
The Tort Report: I'm about ready to give them all away. For the half day that the last of my pink day lilies, the tiny ones, were not protected by a wire cage, the little herd ate them clear to the ground.

Like petite, grazing cattle, they trim the under-story of the two roses, and eat everything, including cactus paddles, thorns and all from any cacti that cross their paths. But, will they eat Lamb's Quarter or any other weed except mallow? No, they will not!

But a tortoise will eat a bromeliad right down to the base if they aren't stopped. Maybe I could be wicked and let them eat tomato plants. We have some, and the cage that protected the day lilies, now protects the tortoises from the deadly effects of a tomato plant's genes.
To help with the mood of the last two days, we watched, "The Shipping News"... again. We're such Hell raisers in this house.

Someone finally forced friday5 down again. I have my thoughts about who has done it, and why, but it's gone for now. Such a nice place. It was a weekly meme for 10 years.

Anyway, the Ravelry bars were way too hard for me to wrangle though again, so I just said. Blegh! and went looking for some older ones that I once had. Those I couldn't find, and looked into the one at Frugal and Thankful, instead. This is much easier, and with some tweaking (you always have to change colors, widths,etc) a person can make things work for themselves. But, with these it was very easy. They work with one of the sidebar gadgets from blogspot. Lovely. I'm pretty sure you can re-tweak the code to cover several knitting projects, also. I'll try it and will let you know.

knitting report. With help from Karen, (Thank you!) I've now knit two rows of the pattern on the sleeve. It looks like a funny little hat at the moment but when it's about four inches or so longer, whenever that is, I'll show it off. Until then, read this if you can. I'm still struggling and yes, I do intend to burn after reading.
The Buddlieas are all blooming and the one we thought was blue last year is now pink. A well, it must be the gypsum or maybe the Epsom salt. It's such a hassle to figure these things out. But, I did want a pink, anyway, So Yay! I'll try to get pics of the blooms. It's not possible to transfer pictures to the computer any longer. So, No new pics, sorry. I'm depressed.

African violet report: This violet is next. There are at least three plants in there. Fingers are crossed that the techniques I learned for long necked recovery of African violets takes really well. I'm jazzed!

They are from India and I guess their manufacturers think American beds are a LOT bigger than the measurements the off-shore buyers give them. Why is this? Does anybody know the answer to this? 2. What’s the most you’ve spent on something you use as protection for something expensive? Are we talking about getting a house fumigated? Well, that was $1500. Happily we found a company that used non toxic stuff, well, not to the termites but a mouse could probably eat it and think it had only a little too much tobacco from that last butt it nibbled. What does your nicest coat look like? I guess it's a knockoff of a London Fog that I always think will fit me again. I'm getting rid of it tomorrow! What was the most recent cheese-covered (or chocolate-covered, if you prefer) dish you enjoyed? This is California, so it would be Nachos. Oh yum, chocolate covered.. there is a dish that has a chocolate covering? What’s something for which you often forget (or choose not) to replace the cover? My sewing machine. I want it where I can see it, and run up a seam if I feel like it. This happens less and less as I get older. What were safety pins invented for anyway. A while ago, with super slow progress on the only open project I have going, I yanked the Ravelry bar off the side bar, just 86'd it.
Then, I decided to put it back in. Well, apparently the Head code was gone as well as the Java script in the widget. And, since Blogger's changed everything yet again(!) The head code probably doesn't even get recognized let alone executed. Java scripts are soooo banned!

I'm just going to forget the whole thing. It's not the time in my life when I can be bothered with trifles.
So, suffice it to say that I'm knitting a sleeve and will update it periodically. I've not seen a lot of patterns but this puppy takes the cake for being practically unreadable. Unless you are an expert knitter, I'd stay away from this. It has 6 different sizes jammed into the the thing, including two for women and at least 4 for men, and the resulting chaos in the pattern lines is "out of this world" crazy but do you.want too try it?

I used to draw a lot more, and yes, I have drawn things for others. I've written things, too, poems and prose. Do you tend to hide your emotions from certain people? How do you hide them? I hide my emotions from nearly everyone. How? Like a Ninja. Do your friends know how to make you smile in tough times? My very best friend is Mr.Z. And yes, he can make me smile in tough times. I would have been an artist, once I got over the mad, mad, love affair with Geology, so I'm pretty good at drawing most anything. By coloring, do you mean like adult coloring books? I love what people do in them, absolutely gorgeous stuff! I also love DD Laura's drawings, and DD Bee's! My Bro is a talented artist, too. He does mechanical drafting, or used to. Excellent draftsman. Do you prefer meat or seafood? Actually, I prefer to eat Vegan foods, though I do eat a little meat as well as Albacore, Salmon and Cod. I no longer eat shellfish. Have you ever read the Bill of Rights / Declaration of Independence? Several times. Then I compared it to Jefferson's other personal papers, and said to myself, WTF?? Would you rather become a police officer or a firefighter? I'd rather be a Fireman! They are my heroes!

Do you choose footwear for comfort or fashion? Comfort, and barefoot is, to me, still one of the most comfortable ways to walk around. 2) This is by far the biggest hit of Nancy Sinatra's career, which includes 6 top ten hits. Can you name another? To be perfectly honest, I never really liked her voice. So, sorry to say I can't name any others. Boots was hard to miss though, as it was EVERYwhere. 3) Nancy recorded it on Reprise Records, which was founded by her father, Frank. Did your parents give you a leg up in your chosen career? We lived on two and half acres of river bottom land, flood plain if you will, and we learned by throwing rocks. Later, we threw balls at school. How did you learn to drive? I learned to drive on the San Gabriel River bottom. There were all sorts of roads, sandy dirt, in the river because there wasn't much water most of the time. I learned to handle a truck on those roads. How did you learn to swim? I learned to swim, on top of the water, in a pool in the desert. I just took off across it one night and swam across the surface. Up to that time I swam underwater and just came up for air once in awhile. Not real swimming, that. What is the most recent thing you learned how to do from an online tutorial? How to give a warm oil lymphatic leg massage. How did you learn most of your social etiquette? From my mother and maternal grandfather, who taught his four daughter's the finer points of English manners from his own upbringing as a son of wealthy Canadians. Grandfather had beautiful English manners, and so did my mother. My grandfather had the most gorgeous handwriting as well. I have some letters of his that he wrote to my mother. I just watched "Requiem for the American Dream". That's the documentary in which he takes linguistics, so perfect for a professor emeritus of Linguistics from MIT to employ, and uses it against the "Mad Men" of Wall Street and Capitol Hill.
It's a perfect dissection of the arsenal of "Corporatese", and going back as far as Adam Smith to do it.

Monsters in the Closet Meme
1. Do you usually sleep with your closet door open or closed?
Usually it's closed all the time unless we are using it for some reason. And the monsters like it dark.
2. Do you take the shampoos and conditioner bottles from hotels?
Only because they will have to be thrown out after I use part of them. I always take little bars of soap i use too. It makes sense to me. Towels or other re-usable things, no deal. They stay put..
3. Have you ever ‘done it’ in a hotel room?
Boy are you nosy or what?
4. Where is your next vacation?
Whenever we decide to trade houses and get on the road.
5. Have you ever stolen a street sign before?
Tempting, but no. We used to be able to buy just about any street sign we wanted in a salvage store in San Diego. Sadly it closed in 2009.
6. Who do you think reads these?
A lot of nice, interesting but shy people who are bored with novel reading and especially after so many "disasters" have been published.
7. Do you have a calendar in your room?
Yes, which reminds me, April's over, right? Better flip this thing.

It was a dark and stormy night, the monster is rattling the closet door, and I am typing this out? I should be charging up the Taser or pulling the M16 out from under the bed. Just a sec..... Only a delusion... I am in bed answering these nutty questions, where else would a grannie with a Taser be? She'd be in bed defending her right to a good night's sleep.
9. What’s your plan for the day?
Making plans for the next day is a bad idea since Biblical times. I just don't do it.

Yes, three, all novels.A House For Happy Mothers,The Big Fear and All the Lasting Things.
11. Do you ever count your steps when you walk?
No, but I do leave a bread crumb trail if I'm in an unfamiliar place with a dubious looking hang-about eyeing me. I kid you not. And also, because of that Count on Sesame Street, I count everything else in my boring life. I want it to stop! Fourteen pair of underpants, ten pair of socks, seven long sleeved shirts; will it never end?

I have peed in the woods, in the desert, and, No, Mother. not under the bleachers.
13. Do you ever dance even if there’s no music playing?
Of Course, and just because others can't hear it, that doesn't mean there is no music.

Good lord, yes. Guys in India wear pink, and they are fine with it. Sikh Turbans are sometimes pink. American males are silly. Too British. No fun.

No, I don't have the time or interest in watching cartoons. Full length movies that are animated, yes. I think of them as an art form.

20. What do you dip Chicken Nuggets in?
I don't eat them unless they are home made and I like to dip them in yogurt sauce. Fast food bought, they once made my sick for 13 years. No more!

Chinese oodon noodles
22. What movies could you watch over and over and still love?
I love some movies but watch them over and over? None.
23. Last person you hugged/kissed?
Mr.Z He's fixing my computer problems, bringing me into the modern age.
24. Were you ever a boy/girl scout?
Yes all the way to Senior Scout from Brownie. I Love scouting. They taught me that there was a whole normal world out there beyond my family life. They also taught me how to camp out. I still remember my troop very fondly.
25. Would you ever strip or pose nude in a magazine?
Those are size one double points and what a pain to knit a worsted weight yarn on ones let me tell you. I have to knit two more inches and then put on about 30 more increases and will finally get away from the double points and onto a circular 4. I cannot wait!
I will update the progress every Saturday afternoon, because this is a love sweater, I obviously need the motivation to finish it before it should get too late or something, God help us, I could go gaga or something, too. One never knows. I think it's been about five years and counting?

What do you recall about lunchtime in the school cafeteria? I worked in the cafeteria in grammar school. Free Lunches. 2) His father and uncle were members of the band Inner Circle. Their song, "Bad Boys" was the theme to the reality show Cops. What reality show have you seen recently? The last one was probably something about tiny houses, which are my favorite sort of house.
3) In this song, Mr. Lewis sings that his mama taught him how to put on pajamas. What did you wear to bed last night? A nightgown. 4) He claims he can't ever lie to his mama because she'll hear it in his voice. Are you a convincing liar? I will only lie to save a life, so I hope so! Oddly, I'm one of those people that learned to tell the truth because my mother wouldn't ever lie. Just tell the truth, and if it gets you into trouble, at least the Great Spirit didn't hear you talking with a forked tongue. My Dad was a brass plated, forked tongue reptilian. I apologize to the reptiles. 5) LunchMoney sings that his mama made him chicken soup when he was sick. Do you eat soup all year around, only during winter months, or just when you're battling a cold? When I was a child it was Campbell's all year. Now it's just in the winter, homemade and organic, and when a cold is trying to make life difficult. 6) The lyrics tell us that when her son was hungry, Mama reliably whipped something up. What's the last food you prepared? I don't cook anything anymore. 7) He also sings that his mama always made sure he had a few dollars in his pocket. Let's talk about you and money. Did you more recently lend or borrow it? No. Gave is the word, and gladly. 8) Mother's Day is for grandmothers, too. Sam grew up calling her grandmother "Grandgran." Did you have a nickname for your grandmother? I called both my grandmother's "Grandma". 9) To celebrate Mother's Day, Sam is giving away her own mother's favorite candy: Hershey Bars. Would you prefer milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or milk chocolate with almonds?

1. How skilled are you with a chef's knife? Very. I cooked a lot of different ethnic foods to help my mom, and also for my own family of six. Chinese knives and French chef knives have been in my hands for a long time.

4. How skilled are you with a corkscrew? I can get a bottle of wine open.
5. How skilled are you with a needle and thread? I've done a lot of sewing and other forms of needle work. I've done custom sewing, hand quilting, crewel work, hand embroidery, and most other handiwork. I'm pretty good at it. I'm also tired of it. Too hard on the hands. I'd rather knit, or use machines now.

I thought I'd put a plug in for getting Wolverines protected. I'd like to bounce the The US Fish and Game into the wall a few dozen times, those rascals! I don't even care if people don't like Wolverines because these feisty little creatures have as much right to be here as say, Elk, and they should be respected.

His tail looks a lot like my hair right now. It looks as if I combed it with an egg beater. I have gray hair that can't make up it's mind if it's curly or not. It used to be thick and curly unless it was very long.

This older title was gleaned from the city library, and though we've already seen the movie the book is still very much worth reading. I hope you will give it a try. It keeps me from thinking too hard about things, and also reminds me just how far we've come as a nation, and, indeed, how far we still have to do. And then came the movie:

IF they are sexual, no, I'm the stupidest, some might say most innocent, person on the planet where that is concerned. That's most of what double entendre and innuendo is about, yes? J) Have you ever been offered drugs but declined? No. Drugs where about two or three years behind my generation, so we grew up in a sort of bubble. The kids from East L.A. knew about them, and probably sold them and used them but not the rest of us. Actually, I tend to blame jazz musicians for drugs, and there weren't any jazz bands in our schools or neighborhoods at the time. K) Have you ever met someone who has completely altered your way of thinking? One boy in a political science class at college. I will never forget the moment when the light of insurrection went off in my head. It was a completely peaceful take over of my consciousness. L) Have you ever been offered drugs and accepted? I do this every day. But not on my blog. heehee Q) Do you usually initiate hugs? Yes, but this was not always the way it was. I was shy and didn't like to be touched. Oddly, I am good at rolling cigarettes because I used to make them for my grandpa. This was in the 40's when packs of cigarettes were mostly from France and VERY expensive. T) What are you looking forward to? Waking up tomorrow with my side kicks and living another day. Today we moved the scanner to a place I can more easily use it, away from my gimpy arm, and tomorrow, THE WORLD!!! Incidentally, I am secretly still a tomboy. I'd like to be able to ride a motor cycle with my gang but I'm a bit past it.

There are so many obstacles, mostly mental, that keep a person from forgiving themselves or others, and this is the crux of goodness, so thus, this is a judgement for a superior being.
