Saturday 9: Baby's in Black (1964)

  1) Black is this week's signature color because Friday was "Black Friday," the day when retailers cut their prices and consumers flock to the stores. Did you score any "Black Friday" bargains?  
No.  We happily don't need anything.

2) Feasting and football are also popular Thanksgiving weekend pastimes. Do your Thursday-Sunday plans include pigging out or watching a game?
We had Thanksgiving dinner at a family member's house, and some of us, I among them, watched part of one game.  Then we ate a normal dinner.  I loved talking to my nieces and their friends, and other family members.  The festivities have ended. So it's "Onward to Christmas"!  
 
3) At Thanksgiving dinners, Crazy Sam's homemade gravy is always a hit. (Probably because she's so generous with the cognac, which gives the gravy a nutty taste.) What was particularly delicious at your Thanksgiving table?
The cranberry sauce, the stuffing and the Pie!
 
4) Among the biggest the Black Friday advertisers are Target, Kohl's, Macy's and Best Buy. If you could have a $100 gift card to any one of those stores, which would you choose?
Target, hands down.  They have more of what I'd want.
 
5) This week's song, "Baby's in Black," is about a girl who wears black because she's in mourning. Do you find that the color you're wearing reflects your mood?
No.  I look best in Black.
 
6) The woman who inspired this song, Astrid Kirchherr, has been friends with Paul McCartney since he and his bandmates (John Lennon, George Harrison, Stu Sutcliffe and Pete Best) met her in Hamburg back in 1960. Tell us what you believe are the components of a strong, lasting friendship.
Gentle rather than rigid (Holier than Thou?) Honesty, Humility without subservience, a sense of ironic humor, and being able to express genuine affection for animals and people.  I generally get along best with people who have these qualities and have made good friends with those who have them.  Flamboyance is ok, too.  I mean not if they strip in public or anything, but a little bit of it. heehee
 
7) In the early days of the Beatles, Paul McCartney and John Lennon began writing a play but abandoned it. Do you have a novel, painting, play, song or poem that you're going to finish "someday?"
I have written song lyrics and poetry, and have many, many finished paintings in my head. Yes, it can be done.  I enjoy composing impromptu lyrics and music. None of it will ever see the light of day.  My daughter's horrible disease, and demise, just took my small connection to my Muses away.  The kids will find them - my many, little whispers from the Muses....
 
8) When he was 16, George Harrison dreamed of moving to Canada, Australia or Malta. In just a few years, he would visit all those places with Beatles and eventually decided there was no place like home and stayed in England (though he did also maintain a home in Hawaii). Have you ever thought about moving to another country? If so, where?
When I was young- a teen- I wanted to live in the South of France.  After I was married, my hubby and I wanted to buy a sailboat and sail to the Islands in the Pacific.  These were strong desires but things arise over which we have no control.  What is that saying, the one about Life being what happens while we are busy making plans?  That bloody, damn Vietnam war just gutted our generation.  I know a lot of people who had this happen to them.  And for what.  War, What the Hell is it good for?  Absolutely Nothing, Say it again!


 
9)  Random question: Finish this sentence -- If you want me to give you "yes" for an answer, the best time to approach me is Never.  (I just don't like the sound of this; it sounds a little sneaky or something... lol)  I really hope someone else has a better answer.

1. You can breathe underwater or be able to fly. Which one would you choose and why?
I would chose to breathe underwater,  mostly because it would be great to see that is undiscovered, and it would be so nice to escape the noisy and polluted air.  Also, though it would be fabulous to fly, everyone and their DOG has a drone, so that drones fill the lower air spaces.  Not only that, there are always the odd bat-blind huckleberry ass-hat here and there who would shoot you down, and say that they mistook you for a crane. 
 
2. What's your go to order at a café?
Usually I get a salad... so I'd probably get a vegetarian Cob Salad, now that every last head of Romaine has been recalled from the latest outbreak of e-coli.
 
3. Where do you feel the safest?
At home, snuggled up in the Lazy Boy, with the doggie snoozing in Mr.Z's lap and as we watch a comedy, or at least the less Gory stuff on Prime or Netflix.
 
4. What is the one book or book series you could reread without getting bored for the rest of time?

Vicram Seth's Novel,  A Suitable Boy.  I love that book! 
 
5. You will receive ten million dollars, but you need to spend one million dollars in 24 hours to receive the other nine million tax free (and you can’t tell anyone what you’re doing). What do you spend it on?
Twenty Four Hours, that's just a little tough...  
I'd buy a house in Santa Cruz.  I know just the one. Then *poof*, I'd pay off the mortgage the next day.  That twenty four hours better start only when the first Million, in cash, is in my bank.  Otherwise, things could get a little hairy.
 
6. What was your favorite vacation to date?
The one when we took all the girls on a camping trip up the coast to Big Sur, stopping along the way at different places.  We were gone three weeks. 
 
7. Is there any scent that reminds you of a specific memory? What is the scent and what does it remind you of?
The perfume called, "Topaz".  It reminds me of my mother.  This is because she wore that most of her life.  She was an Avon Lady for many years.  But that was always her favorite perfume.  She really loved her job.
 
8. What is your favourite TV series? Do you have just one or more?
Sorry.. But I guess it is going to be the last one we all watched, as a family, M.A.S.H.  After that, we gave up on Network TV.  "Mystery", on PBS, which we'd watched along with it, became our favorite one.
 
9. They say that in life you need to try everything. Are there things you will never try?
I will never walk on the edge of a sea cliff or any other cliff.  I've lived by Black's Beach too long.  I will never walk Angels' Landing; I will never go sky diving.
 
10. If I ask you to close your eyes and remember a picture of you, what do you see ?
I see myself holding my two little toddlers when they were one and two years old.  We are sitting on the floor of our house in the 60's, and I think we'd been reading a book together.
 
11. What was your childhood bedroom like?
Crowded.  All four of us slept in the same tiny room.  The best part about it was that it had a large window on the wall that faced the river valley, so I could see the tall, tall, Eucalyptus trees that grew the banks and the starry sky that was revealed along the course of the river.
 
12. Are you a GoodWill, or any second hand store customer?
I love Thrift stores.  Good Will is my favorite, and there are other ones for the smaller charities that I support, like St. Vincent De Paul's, and Children's Hospital Auxiliary.
 
13. How do you feel about the death penalty?
Far, FAR, too many innocent people have been put to death.  We should have no death penalty for that reason alone.  It should be life in prison, so that there is a chance to SAVE them.  I fully support the Innocence Project.
 
14.  If you could live in any fictional world, where would it be?
I'd be a Hobbit.  So, it would be anywhere they are.  Their persons and little fictional lives are the BEST!

15. Do you believe in ghosts/spirits & have you had any experiences with them?
Yes, and Yes...  It has kept me believing in Christ's teachings and in the teaching of Buddha, for that matter.  Something Christ says can really only be read properly by knowing the basis of his words.  And yes, I'll argue with you, so Bring it! lol

 No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)

1) This lyrics use weather as metaphor for romance. Here at Saturday 9, we're more literal. How do the skies look where you are this morning?
This is being filled in on Friday afternoon.  Another RAIN Storm is, maybe, blowing in off the Pacific, and I couldn't be more pleased.
 
2) According to Merriam-Webster, "enough is enough" is what you say when you want something to stop because you "can no longer accept or deal with it." When did you recently say -- out loud or to yourself -- "enough is enough."
Political Sh.. stuff.  As one of my friends said of Nixon and Watergate: "I can't wait for the body count to go higher. "
 
3) Grammy winner Luther Vandross began his career as a background singer and performed on "No More Tears." Tell us about one of your early jobs.
When I was 11, I marked layouts, worked building walls, and later on when we got more experience we nailed off roofs, shingled then or laid in tar paper for rock roofs,  did clean up of job sites as well as putting in the stranding for drywall (to insure that it was set high enough to allow for flooring to go in later).  After that I worked on job sites with my brother and dad and built whole houses in the desert for people we knew.  I never had an after school job other than baby sitting for neighbors.
 
4) Both Donna Summer and Barbra Streisand made slight changes to their first names. Summer was christened "LaDonna," while Streisand's parents spelled her name the more conventional "Barbara." When she was in high school, meme mistress Samantha Winters went from "Sammy" to "Sam." Did you ever make a similar change to your first name?
I was sometimes called Lenny in High School. 

5) Hair was higher maintenance in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Streisand and Summer are both sporting styles that would require chemical treatment, like a perm or relaxer. Today's looks are less rigidly styled and tend to be smoother or slightly messy. How often do you change your look?
I habitually grow my hair out long and then chop it all off into a short Bob when I get tired of it.
 
6) In 1979, it seems every kid was asking Santa for Star Wars toys. Some things don't change, since the Star Wars franchise remains popular with children and toymakers after more than 40 years. What book or toy did you love as a child that remains popular today?
My brother got all the neat toys.  He got a dump truck and a fire engine, and we had a lot of dirt to build cities in so we both played with his toys.  I got a typewriter one year.  I was in HEAVEN!
 
7) Thinking of things that endure ... In 1979, the #1 show in the ratings was 60 Minutes. It's still on, every Sunday night, and in the summer of 2019 it came in at #4 in the Nielsen ratings. What's the most recent show you watched? Was it news, sports or entertainment?
Entertainment.  I do NOT watch the forking news.  And Sports?  Nah.  Mr. Z is not any sort of sport nut or I reckon I'd be knitting to baseball or some such.  Basketball and Soccer, both of which are fast paced, and something I like to watch, I cannot knit to...
 

There are now online groups who de-tangle yarns for people.  

That yarn above is so gorgeous!  Now I want some of it.  
8) In 1979, the price for a dozen eggs averaged 85¢. Today, it's about twice that. Are you more likely to use eggs to prepare a main course (like an omelette or Eggs Benedict) or as part of a recipe (anything from a cake to a meatloaf)?
We've had Omelettes for dinner.  I like that a lot but it doesn't happen often enough.  
 
9) Random question: You’re alone in your car, driving through your neighborhood on a bright, sunny day. You get a flat tire. You have a spare and a jack in your trunk. Would you fix it yourself or call for help?
Through my neighborhood?  I can change it myself -  if I had to, but I'd likely walk home and call Triple A.  After all, it's a lot safer to have someone with a fully charged Impact Wrench come out and change it.  That's what road service is for. Whee! 
That close to home I'd just call Mr. Z who would then, undoubtedly, remind me to CALL TRIPLE A!

Thursday Thirteen: What if...

1. What if you could silence another human with a look, the way that Darth Vader can?  Would you do it?  Out of spite, anger or just for fun?

2. What if the world were really just a flat disc?  Would you sail to the edge to see what you could see?

3. What if you could eat trees?  The wooden parts I mean.   What sauce would you serve with it?

4. What if a human infant could walk and then run almost from the moment it was born.

5. How radical would it be if No building could ever be taller than two stories because of some newly arisen law of Physics that made it impossible?

6. What if a Politician could never EVER tell a lie?  What would be the consequences if they couldn't?  

7. What if humans had been genetically engineered to be eaten by aliens?

8. What if our sun gave off purple light?

9. What if dreams were the true reality, and life was a dream-state?

10. What if  Dogs could talk and even were especially good at Lying?

11. What if  all water were pink, and not blue.  Would we still like it?

12. What if  Humans had longer tails?  (We actually to have a little curled up tail at the base of our spine.)  Would we like our  tails, and lavish special attention upon them, like bows and furbelows.

13. What if gravity stopped working at the same time every day.  Would it be like a balloon going up in to the upper atmosphere, but then everything would come crashing down again when it started again?  Would it be OK is it was only for a second or two so nothing got too far up?

Now for the Questions!

1) What is your favorite TV show (currently)?
Mmmmm this is a tough one.  I don't watch TV at all.  I just watch Netflix which is sort of TV.

2) Would you like to be a child again?
No, and I never want to be a child EVER again.  I hope that that I get OUT OF THIS PLACE!
 
3) Has anyone ever told you that school times were the best period of his/her life? Would you say that to someone? Why?
I would say that I had good times at school for the most part, and it was because of the teachers that took an interest in me.  I will always be indebted to my teachers who were not  prejudiced, and who nurtured my sore little soul. The reason?  I made it to adulthood because of them.  I would want to be a teacher who had those qualities.  I never did get to be a teacher, which was my goal after my two oldest girls were in 1st and 2nd grade.
 
4) How's the weather?
It's sunny and warmish.  Around 70 degrees. 
 
5) Do you like camping?
Camping is my favorite thing to do.  I could easily be a Gypsy.
 
6) Do you believe in paranormal phenomena?
Yes.
 
7) If you would create a holiday, what would it be called and how would we celebrate it? When would this holiday be?

It would be Holy Hopjes Day..  It would be in Summer.  On the first Saturday of Summer, actually.  Our family actually celebrated this holiday for several years and ate Hopjes every Saturday as a sort of Church Sacrament.  Some of my friends may remember it. 

8) What word(s) do you dislike? Can you tell why? The way that "favorite" is spelled in England.  The "why" of this is that I find it confusing.

9) What color do you dislike? What do you associate with it?
There's no color I dislike.  
 
10) Do you believe in otherworldly creatures, eg. ghosts, etc?
Ha!  I think we are the Ghosts.  That's why the other creatures in the other dimensions ignore us.
 
11) Pick two of your favourite fictional characters. Where are they from (what movie, book, etc?) and why are they your favourite?
I love Amarante and Captain Barbosa.   They are both from movies, and I like them because they both are catalyst characters.  When they show up you know things are afoot!!
 
12) If you could change anything or add anything to your body would you? (this can be interpreted however, but, think, would you like to have fins or extra hands?)
I would like to be able to breathe underwater.
 
13) What are some family traditions you have/had growing up? Do you still continue them, if yes, why, if no, why not?
The Why? To honor my Mother, who always did her best to make the holidays good for her kids.  

Mother made a version of See's Candy fudge, the recipe for which came to her from someone mother worked with in the late 40's.  Also, she made chocolate covered Easter Eggs which my Grandmother made for Mother when she was a child.  I was tasked with grating the coconut meat for these treats.  I made this fudge until things changed in the amounts of the recipe.  
I have the recipe for the eggs, and recently found a product that will work for the coconut.   There aren't any other traditions that I can remember.
 
14) What do you think of tattoos? Do you have any?
I think they are ok.  I don't have any but always wanted a small one on my ankle.

15)  What is the most disgusting habit some people have?
Gee, IDK.. picking their noses?
 
16)  If you could bring back one TV show that was cancelled, which would it be?
I just haven't a clue here.  Sorry..
 
17) What was the most unsettling film you have ever seen?
"Schindler's List"  I've seen a lot of Documentaries that are horrid, too.

18) What book has impacted you the most?
I would say the Bible but it's not the most impact for me.  The one that had the most impact was, The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich

19) You're on Death Row and get one final meal: What is that meal and why do you choose it?
This is just too much.  I most certainly wouldn't eat.  
I just learned of yet another Black man, who was executed in a Southern State, and one which DNA evidence would have exonerated.  He was killed anyway, after 19 years on death row.  Yes, I take these things to heart.  It's the way I am.  I have NO illusions that the Nazi mindset has died away....
 
20) What is the first profession you remember wanting to become as a child?
I do remember wanting to be an architect, and thought I was probably going to be one.  I designed buildings when I was about 10 years old.  After that there came a crazy admixture of stuff.

We're spotlighting this legendary concert because  Bev from Sunday Stealing loves Judy Garland. This week's Saturday 9 is a "thank you," one meme-mistress to another, in gratitude for Bev's willingness to pick up Bud's meme and keep it going.


Song #1: "When You're Smiling." What made you smile this week?   
Mostly it was my little gang of Monster killers in our on line game.

Song #2: "Almost Like Being in Love." We've all had many crushes, but love is rare. How many times have you fallen in love?
T'was Once Upon a Time.. T'was in Days of Yore... (the 1960's) We danced and talked the whole evening.  Then a Troll knocked on the host's door and broke the spell.  But, the Princess was able to escape the Troll not more than two months later, and she and her Knight in Shining Armor lived happily ever after.  The End.  I'm sure the Fairy Godmother was well pleased. 
 
Song #3: "This Can't Be Love." This Rodgers and Hart song was introduced in the play, The Boys from Syracuse. Syracuse is the county seat of Onondaga County, NY. What county do you hail from?
Well, Los Angeles if you don't count in the nasty Nazi named Hitler who called my paternal unit far, far away, never to be seen again... I wish!  😒  Mother's parents asked her to come home to have the bebé at their house.  Not liking her father's snobby sisters all that much, Mother complied.  We all came back to California two years later, when a German bomb blew Psycho dad's unit up and he came home for re-hab. 
 
Song #4: "Do It Again." What's something you'd do again, if only you had the time or money? (A book you'd like to reread, a recipe or pattern you'd like to make again, a vacation destination you'd like to revisit, etc.)
I would like to go back to Colorado.  Take a raft trip down the rapids of the Arkansas River.  I'd also like to sew up clothes for me, and especially some marvelous Moroccan style caftans like I made for my sister and myself back in the day. 

Song #5: "You Go to My Head." Judy forgets the lyrics, but gamely keeps going. Tell us about a recent moment when you chose to keep going, no matter what.
When I was waiting for the emergency doctors to re-set my shoulder.  I told myself I'd been through LOTS worse than this in life and could just keep putting one foot in front of the other and walk right on out of this thing.
 
Song #6: "Alone Together." Is anyone there with you as you answer these questions, or are you alone?
My hubby and our little sidekick Wolfie, just back from the late night walkies.

Song #7: "Who Cares?" This song was written by brothers George and Ira Gershwin. They had a lesser known brother, stockbroker Arthur. Are you more creative and artistic, like George and Ira? Or more analytical and methodical, like Arthur?
I'm a methodical, analytical Artist.  I could have been a draftsman like my brother but wanted to take a four year degree in field Geology to work in the field.  This was back in the 60's when a Bachelor's Degree actually meant something.
 
Song #8: "Puttin' on the Ritz." Judy sings that The Ritz is the place in New York "where fashion sits." If we wanted to see everyone "all gussied up" in your town, where would we go?
Every once in awhile, I think about going to an Opera.  We do have a fine Opera season in San Diego, or at least we did have.  Who knows what's been going on lately. lol
 
Song #9: "How Long Has This Been Going On?" Judy sings about discovering how glorious romance can be. Have you made any new discoveries lately? It doesn't have to be as groundbreaking as Judy's. A new podcast or a faster route to work counts, too.
I have been reading a lot of EYE opening Shlock about the under the radar stuff that has gotten us where we are today as a country.  Not Nice!  Both sides of the Aisle are complicit.
 
If you're wondering why there are no Garland hits here ... these are her first numbers in the order that she performed them. She saved her better-known songs for the end of concert. Who am I to second guess Judy?

Some Great News for Joshua Tree, and 12 OTHER rather random thoughts

Thursday Thirteen

1. After the trashing and destruction of Joshua Tree National Monument within the last two years, there is good news, at last, for Joshua Tree, as another big threat was Quashed!

Read about it HERE   I'm so thrilled that I wish I was able to dance in the kitchen.  (it is verboten...) 

2. I am healing up fairly well but have no stamina.  It's time to put on the gym shoes.

3. The left-over Halloween candy has almost all been eaten.

4. The big ferns are both officially dead.  I wasn't able to go out and tend to them.  I will miss their beauty.

5. Tomorrow I go to check in with PT.  My arm is about as useful as it was before the accident, so it's back to square one without the benefit of a corrective surgery.  This goes into the "Oh Well" Basket.
And now for something completely different:



6. It's still too hot in California.

7. I wish I had a swimming pool, but I might join the Y.

8. I've been reading a tremendous book, by Bill Lascher about Mel Jacoby. It's called, Eve of a Hundred Midnights.

9.  We have two field mice in our garden, they live under the water butt.  They are mother and child.  They are so tiny and sweet.  They dash out for seeds and are not afraid of even the doves.  It does my heart good to see them as the last mouse I saw was a  tiny, sick little starveling who wobbled out of the grass to me into my hand for some food.  I set him back down and turned around to fetch more food and a Scrub Jay who had been watching swooped in and proceeded to grab him and pummel him to death on a rock.  Grrrrr!

10. Wolfie still enjoys slow walks but he sleeps almost all the time otherwise.  We reckon that he's a grand old man at 87, give or take a year.  We've had him 11 years and the pound vets guessed his age was 5. I can't imagine life without him but of course I must.  He's been a wonderful little friend.

11.  I'm back to sewing together the clothes I ripped open for the operation recovery time.  They did come in handy after I broke my shoulder and elbow and dislocated the shoulder.  Fun. 

12.  I have discovered Kirkland Protein Bars, at Costco!  Smashingly good!  It's been hard to limit myself to only one a day!

13.  We have a brand new baby tortoise.  His name is Houdini because he managed to escape a box the he should never have been able to get out of.  Here he is:  He's tiny! And he bites. lol  Sooo scary!

1. All things pumpkin are everywhere. What is your one very favorite pumpkin flavored food or drink?  Do you wish it was available all year or do you only want it in the Fall?
I love pumpkin pie, and can make it any time I want it.

2. What product would you seriously stockpile if you found out they weren't going to sell it anymore?  Ben and Jerry's ice cream

3. What is the most interesting thing you have seen online this week?
A tiny poodle wanting to be picked up and tossed up into the air just like a toddler was being tossed up just before the little dog came over and begged to be  tossed.  SO ADORABLE!
 
4. Is it better to be a "big fish in a small pond" or a "small fish in a big pond"?
Gee, a very tough question.  A small fish in a big pond with no other bigger fish in it would be fine.  Big fish  tend to eat the little ones. 
 
5. Do you play chess?  Are you good at it?
I'm rotten at chess.  However, in the spirit of all that is Fun.....There's a chess set in a game I play, and I randomly play both sets at the bank in the game.  I'm sure the other person playing the game wins EVERY time.  I'm a lousy chess player. Some day I'm just going to set it all up for an unbreakable checkmate and see what happens. lol  
And, if you are that person, Yes, I know that's CHEATING 🤣
 
6. Tell us something random about your week.
Let's see that would be last week.   Thinking.... we went to the office supply and I bought some new erasers for doing crosswords.  They are stick erasers that go into a case and can be clicked down as you wear them out.  They are actually for draftsman but very handy for me as I erase a lot. lol
 
7. What is your favorite Frank Sinatra song?


8. Has your state approved the sale of medical marijuana?  In a nutshell, what are your thoughts on the subject?

I think it has.  And, it's about time to do it!  Stupid Law!  I don't smoke marijuana and don't care if anyone else does, either.  (That's a rather LARGE NUT SHELL!)
 
9. Einstein’s Theory of Happiness is: “A calm and modest life brings more happiness than the pursuit of success combined with constant restlessness.”   Was Einstein right?
He actually said this?  Why didn't he stay with his first wife and child then?  He put them through hell.  He's not my favorite person to take advice from. 
 
10. Do you enjoy fresh peaches?  What is your favorite way to use them in a recipe?
 I love peaches but good ones are hard to find if you can't get them from a farmer's market.  I grew up eating peaches straight from mother's three trees, so yes, I love peaches.   I love peach pie, and peach preserves. We had a beautiful Babcock peach tree in our garden, here, until leaf curl took it out.

1) With whom did you most recently have a "heart-to-heart" talk?  My hubby.  We do that a lot lately.  For on thing, we have a very agéd Pup. 

2) When this song was on the charts, audiences were tuning in to a TV show called Hart to Hart. Are you familiar with it?

3) In the music video, Kenny Loggins plays an illustrator. It’s said that the hardest thing to draw is a straight line, because all the joints in your hand have to work together in sync. Can you draw a straight line, without the aid of a ruler or a straight edge?  
Once upon a time, "yes" but now.  I just tried four times...
Afraid I'm out of practice.  I can't even walk a straight line now either. *wink*
 
4) This video also prominently features teddy bears. A 2018 article in the NY Post estimates that 4 in 10 adults has a plush toy of his/her own. Are you one of the 40%?   
I have a teddy bear collection, and one pig.  The  little twins thought it was a teddy bear.  They were little.  😊😊

5) Kenny Loggins performed in a tribute to Aretha Franklin at Carnegie Hall. Do you have a favorite Aretha Franklin song?  
I like all her gospel songs and "Bridge over Troubled Waters" is my current favorite. 


 
6) Kenny cowrote this song with Michael McDonald of the Doobie Brothers. You can also hear Michael on the background vocals. Do you have a favorite Doobie Brothers song?  The Doobie's are my favorite group.  My favorite song is almost a theme song for my life.


 
7) The third cowriter is David Foster. 1982 was a big year for Foster, since Chicago had a big hit with another of his compositions, “Hard to Say I’m Sorry.” Do you have a favorite Chicago song?  This one:


8) In 1982, when this song was popular, Tylenol capsules laced with cyanide killed 7 people in Chicago. In response, tamper-proof packaging was introduced. What’s the last thing you opened that required you break a seal? 
It was a bottle of vitamins.  
 
9) Random question – You’re having a party. Which guest annoys you most: the one who arrives 20 minutes early, or the one who shows up 20 minutes late?  
I'm sure I wouldn't notice the late comer.  But the early bird, I would put to work! lol  No reason to be annoyed.  Just hand them a job!

Saturday 9: The Addams family...

1) One of TV's spookiest families was inspired by a series of New Yorker cartoons. What's the last magazine you flipped through? A Sunset Magazine at the Clinic. I may subscribe again.

2) The Addams' butler, Lurch, was originally conceived as a mute. But then actor Ted Cassidy ad libbed the line, "You rang?" and Lurch had a voice, and a catchphrase. Can you think of another catchphrase connected to a TV character?  Sorry, no.  When I read other blogs I'll likely remember but not right off the top of my head.  I haven't watched network TV for Decades.

3) Now here's the most important question of the week: Do you prefer The Addams Family or The Munsters?  Sorry again.  I've never watched the Munsters, and the only way I know the Addams' Family is through the movies which we have seen numerous times.  So, I'd have to say, "The Addam's Family".

4) What's the scariest movie you've ever seen?  That would be "Pitch Black".  And we are watching it again tonight.  It's horrendously scary!



5) Thursday was Halloween. What goodies did you give the trick or treaters?
We got one of those big bags of tiny candy bars at Costco.  We started out with two apiece, quickly going up to three, and when the big kids (I swear they were BIG ones.. and So Jolly!) came around late, well, I wanted to give them handfuls but stuck to three.  I love to see the big kids trick or treating but you could tell these guys and gals (twenty somethings) were doing this on a lark.. Best costumes of course.  Lots of fun.

6) Are you attending/have you attended any Halloween parties this year?
No, we are pretty well past that.. lol

7) Did you carve a jack o'lantern this year?
No, I just set out my sort of neat stick ones that are lighted, and left it at that.  Next year I will put the little carved ones in the windows again.  That will be to celebrate nearly 60 years of being The Candy Wrangler.  

8) Do you eat candy corn all year around ... only at Halloween ... or never?
I don't eat it anymore at all.  But back in the day, I did buy extra to have to decorate cookies at various time.  

9) In 1964, when The Addams Family premiered, one of the most popular store-bought Halloween costumes was Bambi. It came with a plastic mask held on by a thin elastic band. Tell us about a memorable Halloween costume from your childhood.
My mother made me a witch's costume that I wore for several years.  I loved that hat, and even have an adult's version but quit wearing it because it scared the really little kids.  I might get a pair of those jiggly antenna - those are pretty cute.
